Went on a little road trip today.... To frigging Wales. More so we went here...

The total legend called Gareth owns and runs the place, went here cause of his good skills. Goods not the word, hes a fantatic exhaust builder.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8100.jpg

With the car in the air he removed the old down pipe (that i had to mod to fit, it wasnt pretty) and the rest of my old system.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8101.jpg

Gareth then started mocking up and cut up the 2and a half inch tubing to build the system with, cause of the size difference the end was flared out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8116.jpg

Then it was welded in, nice welding.

Me stuck on the ramp..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8149.jpg

After the drive home the down pipes got a bit of a blueing...

Sits a bit low (hence getting stuck on the ramp)

Its got a great sound when i put my foot down, but its nice and quiet when on the motorway. Cant thank Gareth more for his great workman ship on it and cant recommend him and them anymore. Get service, great build qualty and a life time warrenty.

Surely if he was happy to charge you the amount then he was OK with it.

Merely thinking of having a new downpipe made for mine (+ system possibly)

It got a really nice deep burble to it when i give it some stick, but its nice and quiet on the motorway when cruising.

Which is just what i wanted. :)

Hope Gareth dont mind me posting the price, sure he wont. It cost me £300

31-07-09, 09:38 PM

Does he send full systems out? Was thinking of getting an Ashley system for mine but if he does full systems for that cheap and they are good systems, I may be tempted to buy one, But I can't drive all that way for one lol.

See i've never liked powerflow, all their stuff i've seen before was sh*te. But thats cause its a francize (sp) so its down to the builder. Gareths great and very picky at his workman ship, so you get a high qualty built system.

what system would you recommend for my saloon benn ?

What engine? Same kinda thing really..

I allready had the down pipe, so it was fitted there then cut, with the system built from there back.
Still have loads more to do.

Wouldnt think so, as they are made to the car. Was just over 300miles for me to drive there and back, but well worth it.

This one thing i was worried about, when the old one was made it was really loud, i had to have the stero on loud to try and mask it or i'm get a head acke
So wanted this one to be quiet, Gareth said about it might be louder cause i've gone up in bore size, but its nice and quiet when crusing, but on boost its nice and deep.

Nope, means you cant have a huge center box, but you can get a good size one in there, the pipe work comes close but has about inch cleanance.

Small update.

Been sorting little bits out again, just yo get things more to my liking. When i fitted the ic pipes i had to use std stuff as a temp job, looked like this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff.jpg

This was 2" from the turbo that reduced down to 1.5 to a join, then along to a join with a 2" pipe joining that. It had to be very clamped down to seal.
So i've sorted it so its all 2" so there's no dodgy join, nice silicone too.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff3.jpg

Sits and run better now too.

I also spoted Rich was selling some ultrasonicley cleaned with all new seal, spray end cap injectors. Reading the print out that came with them..
Before,
1=85
2=86
3=12 :eek
4=86

After,
1=88
2=88
3=89
4=89

Number 3 wasnt happy at all, but its now got a 641.66% increase...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff4.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff5.jpg

Mmm new stuff.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff6.jpg

Now when i started the car it took a while to start, was never sure what this was. After i fitted the new injectors it seems to have sorted it. Started on the button now. :) Very happy.

Benn
01-09-09, 10:00 PM
Now a few people know i've been having probs sorting the wiper motor out, i looked in to using the corsa set up, but gave up a bit as the long mech needs making wider. But it seems the nicer motor/linkage to use so i jumped in and started cutting.. lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff9.jpg

I then tacked in a bit of metal to act as a joiner (abit very badly) take to do this a few times to get the width right

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff10.jpg

After about 4times it was correct, so i wrapped the bar with metal, welded it in fully. Then did the same with the other end.
So it now fitted in place..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image109-1.jpg

After powering it up we found it was fitting the scuttle, so i simple bent the main bit of the frame where the motor is bolted on down, now it clears and works.

Dan sorted the wiring and soilder up.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image110.jpg

Now it works on just being held up by the spindles, but i wanted to support the motor better, so i made this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff12.jpg

Welding much better with the bodyshops welder,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff14.jpg

My welder..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff16.jpg

Wanting to use the front most bolt hole on the linkage, i thought simply bolt down, so made up a captive nut on a plate..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff19.jpg

Then after cutting the leg to shape, i sat it on like so.. Tacking the corners on,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff20.jpg

Then welded it on fully,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff22.jpg

Finished kinda,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff23.jpg

Gave it a lick of paint.. And job jobbed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff24.jpg

Just need to drill two mounting holes in the base and fit tomoz.

Over the weekend i allso fitted my strut brace, to tighten the front up a lil more from Combe (wwoohhoo) and refitted my now move cut open track bumper.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/wiperstuff7.jpg

Bumpers now opened up behind the number plate, to get as much cold air in as poss.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image123.jpg

Benn
01-09-09, 10:00 PM
While i was working on the wiper linkage i snaped one of the bars, so Dan, Pete and myself headed to the scrappy so i could get another one.. While there we found a very clean no reason to be in the scrappy 1.2 k reg spin.
I got all the heater dials out for mine from it, as at the top i only have coloured ones i had painted a blur set in met black, but in doing this the holes that the direction light comes up for a bit knacked, so Dan got all the minty ones from the Spin for me..

Mine at the top..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image021.jpg

You can see the holes here better..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image097-1.jpg

And the fan speed one of course does the heated rear screen in a Nova, well the little sticker had come off, so that was swaped too.
Mine..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image106.jpg

New one.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image107.jpg

Fitted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image108-1.jpg

deffo lookslike its not getting any/enough gas.. turn it up n try a bead.. slow the wire speed down a tad to..

Benn
04-09-09, 08:59 PM
Gas is new and you can hear it comming out.
I've turned the speed up to get a better beading/weld. Turn it down and it just wants to splatter it. Think the welder might just be sh*te.

Can weld fine with anything else..

Update time.

Been driving and enjoying the Nova.. But as i'm off this week on holiday i wanted to get a jobs sorted.

Had this new steering wheel on since Billing, but couldn't find nice simple centre for it, for i've painted the centre it came with (even if i don't like it) and i also painted the bolts to. But wanna do them again in satin black.

Getting to the back ones was a little hard..

Its an spacers from an old cork gasket...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8380.jpg

Found a use for this old thing.. lmao

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8375.jpg

Got it all cleaned up and ready to refit. But my nicely polished sump had gone a bit misty..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8383.jpg

After a quick buff...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8384.jpg

Removed the vents bit of trim.. This needs to be painted.

Pulled the old covering off and got out my roll of headlining martial out...

Cut to size, lay over and make out vent hole..

Cut out vent hole..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8403.jpg

Lay martial on it, use spray glue thats says "use in ventilated area" so not in my front room no? Yes i feel a bit light headed..lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_8404.jpg

When the tops dry, i can flip it over and fold and glue the edges. Then refit the plastic vent bit.

Also order up a few silicone hoses from Chris Astley, the only ones i can really use...

Rad to stat hose, head to matrix and the front hot water out of the turbo to rad return.. They will be here in a few days So i can drain the system and refill it properly.

Spent the day getting the system off.. What a c**t. Cause of the size of the tubing i've had to jack the car up with the beam dropped down and undo the shocks to make cleanace.

Then i could drop the tank down.

Found of why it was leaking fuel...lol and why there was a smell of fuel in the car...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/day210.jpg

Found some of the fuel hose i got from work.. Funking stuffs a tiny bit to small. So am gonna have to buy some.. GGrrrr

This came to day, nice fast delivery. We sell Fuel parts stuff at work, the pump is £150ish pounds.. Got this off ebay for £49.99. On the site its a own brand pump, but is right for a 2lt Cav, Cally, Astra and a few Bwms too. So the prices wasn't bad for a own brand one, but a bargain for a fuel parts pump.

Finish off buffing the rear box up too.

The filler neck breather passes through a plastic gromet in the chassis leg visible through the arch. The main issue with that pipe is that it is moulded with a 90deg at the end where it comes off the tank. If you are just using plain replacement fuel hose, it will kink & not breathe. :thumb:

Yeah i know now, they did start off good tho, at Combe they where utter poo.
I did look in to 40s, but with 45s being £60 each where as 40s where all most 90 i just couldn't do it. I wanted them for clearance reasons but can't see 5mm with make that much probs.. Was also warned as they can make the ride even more hard..

In my experiance 195/40's can make all the difference when your running very low with 6.5J rims. They sorted my front wing clearance problems 100% on the red one but at the same time the ride wasnt the best. With your rims only being 6J I imagine the 195/45 will be fine. As the cars your daily user I imagine you'll want as much comfort as you can get! All in all a good choice fella you cant go far wrong with toyos. ;)

Actual tyre sizes vary across manufacturer anyway.

Those Yoko A539 in a 45 profile/16" are like rubber bands.

That is why i was gonna go for 40s, as i've pulled my front wings but wanna drop the car down a lil more and then they touch.. I don't mind it being hard that's never bother me, just adding to it in a way i cant adjust i thought i'd leave. Bit more pulling and they'll be fine...lol

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/IMG_8451.jpg

2weeks pass so i ring up and am told that Roose where having a few probs but they would be out asap. Week later i ring again and am told that cause of the probs roose will send them direct to me to save time.

Week passes and nothing. Now i knew they where comming by RR so knew there would be a delay. But then yay they turned up to day! But they came by Fed-x.. With the 29th on the bag and not from Roose..
Then i open the bag and find this... (Nova xe/let head to matrix and stat to rad and a the turbo inlet to rad)

Picked these up from Ebay, after Scott. I had blues ones fitted first but they where crap at lighting up the clocks (you couldn't read the trip/miles)
I re fitted normal bulbs, but they are sooooooooooo sh*te it was unreal. Gave a really dirty coloured light. So these new ones are ment to be ultra mega hid xenon white:rolleyes:

Nice stuff mate.

I always though about completely re-doing the clocks with some of those ultra bright LED's as im sure everyone will agree the original lights are dog do.

Nice one Benn, yeah it's hard to get a clear pic of them, it took me a while to get mine to show how they did in the pic i took, but as i know what the blues are like then i know them whites must be dam bright in real time etc, might get some for the mk1.

I'll try again with my proper camera, they give a nice clean white light which is what i want. The leds them selfs are super bright, its just the way they are placed which makes them a bit dimmer. But these white ones are much much better that the std bulbs.

Heres mine, like i said never had any trouble reading anything on there!

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt244/mighty_mechanic2009/DSC00090.jpg

Only trouble I even had with them is one of the bulbs were a bit dodgy and needed to be poked back in. Always able to read them ok and with the white on yours should be ok to read. Still personal preference I guess.

novaguy08
18-11-09, 07:09 PM
Well they did look darker compared to the original bulbs, but my eyes are dodgy ya see, they let too much light in so they would appear a bit brighter to me then they would to you.

Boring update.

Haven't got a lot done, been enjoying driving it and not having to do anything anless i've wanted too. But thought i'd do a few bits of retrimming while its cold..

A pillar trims, where painted in a satin black. Bored of that, so thought they'd look nice covered in the headliner martial..

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Retrimming4.jpg

Cut the shape..
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Retrimming7.jpg

Glueing it on.

All done.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Retrimming11.jpg

Was thinking i'd have to get my sun visors retrimmed by a trimmer cause they would have to be all made up and stitched, but then thought i'd have a go with the satin plastic and vinyl paint..

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Retrimming.jpg

Not to bad, painted the marital too as i wanted less colour, kinda like that you can just still see the blue..

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Retrimming10.jpg

Did the visor clips too and the plastic pins as well.

Found out that my rad was leaking and changing some of my hose's so thought i might as well go all and put something abit nicer in.. Picked this up from TX motorsport on Ebay. Have a few of his bits now.

Nice bit of welding too..

Should help with the heat too..

Next is to take the front end apart and fit eveything.. Will be replacing my turbo inlet while i'm there. The glued up one was really a temp bodge but seems to have lasted a while...

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Frontend2.jpg

Trail fitted the new thicker ally rad.. Fits good, need to trim off the old mounting lugs
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y232/bennh2/Updates%20Oct09%20on/Frontend4.jpg

Need to let the front end and floor dry off a bit then i can do some trimming from where i made room for the ic pipes so will be making that look better even tho its not seen.
So picked this up at Machine Marts vat off day today..

Do you know if they make the parts inhouse or are they just a distributor?

Benn

I think its done in house, as when i ordered the rad i asked about the fan push mounting things (got my twin fans from him) and he said then he boxes it up he'll put a packet of them in there for me. But that's only what i think..
