I like it mate, I actually thought about colour coding brake lines the other day when I was under the Nova. I'm convinced :)
looking good ben :thumb:
real credit to you buddy
Cheers Pie, underside needs a good clean now, need to buy some spray spray wax...

Cheers, i did it when i redid the engine bay, as brake lines can get looked over, but i wanted to make them better/look better.

All nice and pretty clean Benjamin. Top work.
Do it Tek.
Cheers Si, not quite in your group but i try.
Drove the car today, back end feels alot better and now so light feeling... Tracking tomoz.
Right back to the update...
Ordered these from Vauxhall as mine were melted while being powder coated. 42p each and still stocked.

Fitted, greased, cables on and adjusted (thanks Dan) hand brake now locks up on to clicks. Getting a lovely bedding in sound from the new shoes,discs,pads..
Moved the car out side, started first time, sounds great, no tapping. being that it hasn't been started since early Jan. Very dusty tho..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0691.jpg
Then refitted the glove box back up from where we thought the alarm was going mental.. (it wasn't, was a dieing battery)
I fitted a new chromed door catch, after my old one was jamming, plus i had these chromed...

Catch fitted,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0696.jpg
Door all built up and working smoothly....
Dan helped me fix a small fuel leek from the pump to filter. The braided hose just wouldn't seal. So changed it to a rubber one as a temp job.
Took the car for a test drive, front tracking must be out.. Rear isn't right, but the lightness on the rear end is now totally gone. which makes me very happy.
Using some straight we worked out (very easily) that the rear drivers wheel is very out of line...
Next day, off to get the tracking done... big thanks to Jim, Liam, Euan at Protyre.
On the ramp, trying to get the gauges on.. As it's low they have to mess about setting them at a different angle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0369-1.jpg
Cheeky underside shot..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0370-1.jpg
Tracking/toe... Right out the other way front where it was.. Great! Euan, thinks it might have been old worn bushes, not un-even hubs..
Now it's got new bushes, the shims have pushed the toe out the other way... So strip the hubs off again, shims out, re test... Aaggghh.

may be a silly question but weres your rear towing eye benn??

08-04-12, 09:53 PM
That's weird, I thought the handbrake guides were white nylon,
How much was the chroming Benn as I have a bag full of bits to get done but am struggling to find anywhere
Nice ramps at the garage,
Look at the dust on the poor thing, lol

I thought there where white too, but still plastic, but i dont know,
These are the cross over part number as they are the same on Corsa B and C's...
Chrome, well i had a load done last summer, just didnt get it all fitted. But hes very good on price, cheapest ive found and the work is perfect.
looks good albeit a bit dusty
Oh yea its minging. :(
Have you had to space the front wheels out to stop them hitting
The f28 on full lock ?
Let me know how far you did if you did
lock stops i believe... as in hd jubilee clips on the rack
Have you had to space the front wheels out to stop them hitting

No, it touches. But the tyres touch the wings first, so i don't get full lock anyway..
lock stops i believe... as in hd jubilee clips on the rack
I did look at that, but wasn't fully sure if that would work..

Yeah, next time you have your front arms off for re-painting/buffing or whatever just weld on some lock stops.
Where too tho? Nothing gets that close does it? I tend to stop steering with i hear tyre on arch.. lol
/\ thats exactly what's do at the minute but it makes a horrible noise haha
Might look into lock stops but as you said Benn nothing gets close enough to stop the rack unless you fit the stop under the rubber boot
Yep, that's where i lost interest... lol

lol Cheers dude, need your input on that...
Tracking checked again, this time its much better and good enough not to worry about. Very happy with that, so took it for a small test drive over the back roads... Back end now feels tight and much better. So much better than it did before.
On to the turbo swap.

I'm also joking, I think!
Iirc from what James said, it will make and hold boost better...
So not having enough things to do at the mo, i thought why not start another?

Bored? I have thought you'd have got a spare bumper rather than using a pristine one!
The number plate lights already been removed so had to carry on... Plus it's only a bit of paint work.
Oh and i wasn't bored, far from it. Got so much to do it's unreal.

Had a big issue at 11:30pm.. When the car locked me out. Found the bars that link the handle to the latch had come off so had to rebuild both doors, while there i changed the window runner after a screwed up trimming it and had to "fix" it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0441.jpg
Tried to rebuild my pillar pod for my boost gauge, still dont like it. Still don't fit right.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Crap/pvsrednova-2.jpg
wooo looks strange seeing it in red lol
look better in blue :)
I never really liked Red Nova's. But at the time there was nothing else about. Like them now tho.. Just blue is way better.
Despite owning three red Novas it's never been my favourite colour but it's nice seeing any nova on the road these days lol
lol i've had two now. And very true, i followed a Sola down the motorway today, was so excited.
While working under the car over the winter, i noticed some small bubbles right on the edge of the arch... I wasn't happy.
So took the grinder too it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMAG0185.jpg
Happily it wasn't rust. Looks like moisture had got in and lifted the filler/primer. So it was all sanded back, the lip on the inside of the arch has been bare metalled, sealed and painted. So that should be all sorted..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Reararch9.jpg

I like how you're happy to grind back and repaint parts as you please to keep it looking tip-top. Paying for bodywork always sounds a bit daunting to me.

Definetly right choice in wheels Benn.
They look much better than your old whels mate.
Thank you very much, means alot coming from you.
So i have a small update i've been working on...
After surfing German Ebay i found a set of BBS CO, these are the older style of the new CH, which i love... So after a few emails and a lot of help from Jeffrey ( Vlietje ) on Png i ordered a set of brand new wheels...
As they wouldn't post them to the uk, a plan was set. The wheels would be sent to Jeffrey's work in Germany, he'd pick them up and then we're meet for me to collect.
Skip a few days, Jeffrey opening the wheels at home to check them..... Wrong bloody offset. They had two offsets listed, ET50 and ET38.. Here is where i cant thank Jeff enough. He sorted it all out almost (i sent a few emails)
So the wrong ones where collected, new ones safely in Jeff's hands. Thank funk!
I cant thank Jeffrey enough for all his help, with out his help i wouldn't of got them. He is very very trust worthy (over 400pounds worth of trust lol) He's the most helpful member ever!
We met up and i had a car full of shiney new rims.... YAY!
Now, the specs. 6.5J ET50 5x112 center bore 63mm. Ah i hear you read... Two probs there, but both easily sorted..
A quick search and i found a set of "wobbly" wheel bolts. After doing alot of re-search, i found some that have "wobbly" washers on them they give 2mm movement. Made in the uk buy a engineering please, stating that they are 100% safe, so i ordered a set. Next was a trip to the machine shop to open the center bore out to fit my Cav hubs. I measured the hubs at 65.75 so i had the wheels done to 66mm. Thinking the 0.25 of a mm wont give any probs..
Fast forward and i'm test fitting them. When Dan notices then hub movement plus the move ment the "wobbly" bolts give might mean the wheels might not sit 100% centerlised on the hub. Bugger! Hadn't thought of that before.. So i needed to get tyres on and get them tested... So here are some pics...
BNIB... Mmmmmm

Looking good benn,
For peace of mind, I've had wobbly bolts for about 20k miles and the odd high speed blast...

It's a pity the nova is too small for CH's!...
ps. catch you at billing hopefully!...
Wow, they look fantastic, suit the car perfectly!
this car is a real credit to you dude, looks fantastic in the flesh (and the sun ha ha), the attention to detail puts a lot of other supposedly well prepped show cars to shame!

Cheers dude, i've done 300miles just this weekend and seem fine... With a few high speed catches up..lol and yeah CHs would have been nice but they dont make them in under 18x8...

Thank you Al, and for the bits you've done fore me. I love the look of the car in the sun as the colours really pop (the mettlic and pearl in both) give it a real wet look. In my eyes its the small detaills make a build. They are things i've always looked for.. So i do them as much my self.
Lot's more to come too...

I didn't like the new wheels at first, but I now really like them, excellent choice
But that bonnet bra thing looks shocking, spoils the car imo, sorry :)
The bra is only on for the drive, not left on at shows.(bar combe cause i thought it was funny to be on track with it)

haha cars been a nightmare so no racer for me.. Fronts are 47et yeah, rears have no spacers so are still et50. Fronts rub on the arches even tho i've pulled them more... That's the main reason for not going bigger... Altho the wheels them selfs look smaller than 16", so looks wise 17" might have worked..lol
17" try on my previous Corsa :)

It's the room, you'd have to cut a hole thru the chassis and run a pipe thru it, then it's keeping it dry and clean, plus my oil cooler is right there too.. But it's something i'd really like to do. So both clean and clean and nice.
But i will be looking in to it when i swap turbos in the next few weeks..

Nothing is black tho! It's all metallic grey. As bumpers and trim are grey when they leave the factory. If anything, the boot grab would go blue to match the handles. As the handles are ment to blend in..
Hmmm, when did the astra mk2 mirrors go on? Not noticed that before :p

you need to gen me up then matey. The best wheels are all massive fitment like you said but problem is offset most of the time. I mean I could live with buying ET38 - ET40 rims and taking off a couple mm off the hub to get them closer to what I want but some of these wheels are 0 - 30 offset so will ruin everything.

Car looks fantastic mate! I wasn't 100% convinced on the wheels at first but looking at the recent pics I think what you have achieved is make a timeless car that would suit any age, whether that be to admire or drive. 16yr olds to 80yr olds would appreciate this car. This is a compliment by the way!
If im honest, i was set on the wheels, got them did a trial fit and loved it, then some time pasted and i then wasn't sure.. So thought PV could be the test. See what people think, see how i feel and that.
Glad to say i really like them, almost everyone thinks that look good too. So now i'm happy with them, really liked the pics a page back too. So i think i'm happy with them..lol

Door handles/bins. Flocked inside and out. As getting unmarked minty GSI ones is impossible.

Was good meeting up with you. Wheels looked ever better than I thought they would Ben. Great car!!! Shame I didn't get to see it better due to the sh*tty weather...
Deffo, have to again for more parts soon..lol Glad you liked the finish wheel job. Wouldn't of been sorted with out you. Hopping next time we meet it's in the warm sunny air.
Start of an update. Haven't used the car in a week. Pulled it out of the garage to find this much oil under the car...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown25.jpg
Now It's leaked since i built it annoyingly. Thought it was the sump. But now think it's the oil pump to block seal. Which only seems to be getting worse, as i'ev now needed to top the oil up. Something i've not had to do before.
Car out side...

Car back in garage and jacked up. IC and rad out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown3.jpg
Start stripping. Now while doing the pump gasket, i'm also changing the turbo. As i have a low mile rebuild hybrid unit ready to fit too.

Remember kids, set jubliee clips up so you can still undo them when under the car/every things in the car.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown8.jpg
Turbo off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown11.jpg
This is the breather that goes to the turbo inlet, which has water in it, is this normal from condensation?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown9.jpg
Which means i get a build up here in the re-circe(sp?)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown15.jpg
Surely not a good thing....?
Now the exhaust side looks ok... No oil or anything, Which i thought there would be as i get smoke on idle..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown13.jpg
Turbo outlet.. A bit oily but not to bad... For the amount of oil i get in the pipes...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown23.jpg
Hhhmm something been in there?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown17.jpg
But it drove fine, made boost fine...
Exhaust side, all clean, just whiteish soot.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/Turbostripdown21.jpg
Left it there, ready to strip the pump off....
Oh dear! Did you find the source of the oil lake finally?
Deffo think its the pump to block join. As it is very wet above the line of the sump.
who you having to re-con the turbo benn?
With Dan help to get the bottom pulley bolt off. Got all the belt cover off, belt off and then started stripping it down...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0639.jpg
Puddle of oil...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0640.jpg
Ah i see a leak..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0641.jpg
Looks like both are leaking quite bad..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0642.jpg
Wet above the pump... So cant be the pump leaking. From what i can see on the seal it looks dry.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0643.jpg
This seal is dry too... Which i have been wondering if it was leaking..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0644.jpg
So gonna get two gen cam seals and a new bottom pulley bolt on order tomoz. Built it back up after cleaning it. Then see if that fixes it.
who you having to re-con the turbo benn?
James (countvauxalot) was gonna do it. But the one i've bought have been re built and hybrided already.

I bet you get mighty peed off having to strip this down when it's looking soooo good, do you tend to buy genuine GM parts these days or not Benn?
I have to, to make it right. It's simply not good enough.
I hate the fact it's leaking. And i try to use GM parts or as close to them as poss.
Southie
02-08-12, 08:47 PM
I think I got brainwashed with my old engine, I'd never bought anything but GM. I know theres good reproductions and probably the same companies that even supplied GM but I got paranoid if I went elsewhere incase the parts were faulty.
Elring and Payne make most Gm seals. So i try and use them. But we stock FIA at work, so i use them too alot.
Southie
02-08-12, 08:55 PM
So why the feck is this in bits then if it's FIA gubbins lol
I jest btw, oh where's the next PS you needing doing anyway? ;)
I think the cam seals are Payne too..lol But both are leaking... Who knows really.. And erm... Dont remember...

I feel your pain on the oil leaks too dude :(
Double check the rocker gasket in the corners over the cams, I had similar build up of oil in the same place as you and I did the cam seals and bottom pulley seal twice before finding it was actually the rocker cover!
I'm in the process of doing the crank seal and end cap on the gearbox side to try and stop mine leaking, Also got a new seal for the oil cooler sandwich plate incase thats loosing some.
Keep up the good work :thumb:

I believe it was done at your place.. So what ever you would normally do...lol How would i tell of anything else?

Will do dude, but the rc cover looks dry. But i'm replacing it anyway... Just in case.
Cheers :)
New cam seals (One Payne, was ment to be two but only one came, but Dan had a spare Gm one) So rocker cover off.. Strut brace off first as it's in the way...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0655.jpg
Dan reminded me that the cam caps should have sealant under them as there is no gasket or anything on them... Something i didn't know last time i put it together.. So hopping that's another reason for the leak..
So this time i've smeared a film of RTV over each one before re fitting after the new cam seals where fitted..

New Payne Rocker cover gasket too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0656.jpg
Noticed this, cheap ones seem to be very hard. But a GM is soft as is this Payne one.. But maybe that makes a different.. As all cheap ones i've had have leaked..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0657.jpg
All fitted, but while i was there i need to remove the fuel rail and swap with a spare that has the fpr blank on it, so did that so i can fit this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0668.jpg
Thinking i can fit it where the hot start valve bolts to the top hat... So cut and redrilled the bracket..

Thank you Niek, all part of the fun i guess..lol turbos can be fun... Mostly when you fit boost!
Didn't get alot done to day.
Before i want the fpr hidden away a bit i've had to remake the bracket that mounts it.. So bit of CAD.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0672.jpg
Then some cutting and filing.. And a coat of gloss black..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates%20June%202011%20on/IMG_0673.jpg
Fuel line that is a **** to cut have been cut down to meet the fpr too. Is a nice tight fit on that and the bit i cut off fits from fuel line to fpr too..
And a fun lil update. I use a Corsa Key and barrel. Which means this..

I don't wanna be too OFF ;)
Glad to see your top work again, hopefully You will be beat the hose problem! It doesn't looks too insolvable but really annoying.
You will be able to replace that bulb with an led easily, you just need to know what lamp it is,
They make retrofit leds for everything these days, I'll see if I can find a link when I'm home on the pc
