First, listen to this (not work safe!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-inNVxDhZo

Its how my day has been. Most of the day has been waisted, the rests been a utter c**t. Get up early to go see Keith to ask for a hand knocking the pins out of my doors to swap them over. When he turned up he hadn't bought a pin removal tool as he thought i had one.. So he goes back and get the one. Cant get the pins off for love nor money. He says come to the garage and we'll do it then. Get there a 1ish. Utter night mare.. At about 3ish they've got all four out. Found out when the doors where fitted years back, the pins that where put in where just ones in stock. That weren't right. So the pins where lightly tapped in so i could get home and swap them.

Get home, Dan's come to help. After a lot and i mean alot of funking about, we worked out the screw on end of the pin removal tool was a bit small, so it was pushing the pin out so was making it harder to remove... But this was after i had to do this.

To do this...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20Updates%20May%2010%20on/Doors47-1.jpg

Got the new doors on easy as, new Gm pin well greased up. Check strap in.

Move on to building the doors up.. Next prob. Found the back of the door handle is hitting the window runner.. GREAT!
Fixed that by temp removing the lower half.

(Remembering that when the doors where mocked up there was no glass, or runners)

Then i find, the window wont go down because of the way the pull works (to open the door) so had to remove part of it and use a old inner door pull, cut and bend it to sit in a different way.. What a c**t. Got one all dont and working now. so i can flat the off and polish it up in the morning. Gotta make another bar up in the morning which isn't fun.

So to finish. Dont ever put Audi door handles in to a Nova door, at the mo i wish i hadn't!

In the waiting time, i got my wipers off, sanded and painted in bumper grey.

Damn man, a upgarde you wish you never did?! Was never expecting you to say that about it, but then again it sounds like it was a right farse.

Note taken, no Audi handles on the Nova :)

You should've used an old bonnet stay to get the pins out.

Really interetsed in seeing the wipers on the car. Wiper arms look best in black and any attempt I've seen to have them in a different colour has failed.

Will be very interesting though. At least you got the doors on mate without damage, now that would've been a right funking pain.

Benn
09-06-10, 11:39 PM
Was a night mare Si. Leave the doors on till you really have too.

Tommy, cheers. Really hope its worth it.

Tek, at the mo, yes i really wish i hadn't. Believe me, a old bonnet stay wouldn't have got them out. Beating them with a hammer and punch didn't do alot.

The wipe arms where a met black before, but i like the matching ness with grey.

Universal pins FTL then.

I know what you mean about macthing, that's why I had to yry going black on the Snowplough, nothing on the car was grey.

I shall await the arms to be fitted and see what it's like. Don't see wiper arms painted often.

Benn
10-06-10, 08:12 AM
Tommy, i hope so, or will will be more new doors.

Tek, yeah, everything matching is best. I've been painting wiper arms for years..lol

In black though. When it's not black then it's a different story. Like those peole who paint their wiper arms white to match the car or go get alu wiper blads. always looks pants.

Not in my eyes,

only thing i could see that he could change is moving the lambda further down the system so you cant see it, other than that im stumped as to what else there is lol

I have thought of that, but the down pipe welded in to the system, which runs to the back box. So its not easy to get off, i'm tempted too do it tho, as i don't think i could hide it. Wasn't happy that the king lead was blue, so painted it. Not good as its broken down the rubber, so when i started it sat morning and it ran like crap and i touched the leads while the engine was running it gave me a shock.. Quite a big shock. So a start king lead will hide better, need to heat shrink or cover the loom that go's to the hall affect sensor, as its a bit untidy.

I wanna get the afm tucked right down under the slam panel if i can as it looks nicer, the air filter needs changing too. The water inlet to the turbo silicone pipe needs the metal fitting at the bottom bending in as it touches the rad if fitted the right way, hence why its at a funny angle, then it can be tucked under the slam nicely too..

I dunno. I caught a glimpse of about 5mm of unsightly injector loom lol

See because of all the messing with the doors i didn't go alot i normally do.
The engine loom is normally covered with some "cut off" of the black silicone tubing that's in the bay. So it almost looks like a water pipe comming thru the bulk head, just tidies it up well nicely.

Agreed Lee, Benn get a set they would finish your motor off to a T ;)

Lee can I have my job back  lol

Now you see why i'd like different rims.

Spent the weekend doing little bits.

New CTS fitted, new arm and freshly painted dizzy cap, but its still missing and bogging down when cold.

Fitted sound deadening to my doors, so they have a nice solid sound. Cover the insides in a rust proofing wax stuff too.

Cut my air filter down abit more, trimmed my bumper "mouth" a little more to give more IC clearance. Bumpers now been all sanded down so it can be painted before billing.

Stripped the wings off to give the car a good clean, as the paint under them hasn't really been touched since late last summer, so want to check everything and give it a good coat of wax.

Bit dirty.

Yes yes, wont ditch them tho, nice spec and hate bonnet stays, they look so messy. Plug i wanted to try out first, when i started it earlier it seemed better. But wanna start it early in the morning so its still proper cold to test it. If it fixes it then i'll look in to Ford Plugs. Now i wanted something simple, with a standard kinda feel, but made better, but i needed away for the sound to come thru from the speakers behind. Spent ages looking at other people doors cards and came to this design as it was simple and nice. I'm happy with them..

Put the pockets back on, with a lil trimming on the rear for speaker clearance.

That was a guess but it does look shorter too. Maybe the knob itself covers more shaft so makes it look shorter if not chopped.

I quite like the gear knobs out of the Cav SRi's and the like, leather knob with a nice insert in the middle. They'll also ft right on a standard Nova shaft.

new gate, nice.

I see some of the dubbers are getting rear screens with the heating elements deleted, to look cleaner. Is that an option? can you scrape off the elements & buff up the glass? It would look cool.

ECU covering is a good idea. One of the big-block conversion 'hates' for me.

Ive seen that too, seen the stunning red mk2 golf? He did it for the clean look and its the kinda thing i'd do tbh, but i like to use the car to much, so when it is cold its a must have really. I can get non tinted merit glass with no lines for about 40 quid, but the rest of the glass is tinted. So it would look odd. To have tinted it has the lines, i'd be worried about making the glass trying to get the lines off.. Am trying to get a bit that's like the front screen with the tiny lines you can hardly see...

ECU wise, me too, looks very unfinished and that will do. Never liked it just sitting there. Then Dan said when not wrap it as i was everything else.. So i did, just a nice finishing touch i think.

There's rust comming thru around the outer bolt holes where the grab is and might be some hidden on the inside. And it opened in the garage so has a small dent and big chips off it. lus this new one was a barging.

Cheers dude, i have seen a flocked one too.. Must be the same car...

Thank you very much, never thought of me or the car as an inspiration before so that's really nice too hear. Tbh i should be in the garage at the mo stripping the head down, but i cant be arsed. Alot of the time i get home from work and feel knackered, so i try to get everything done on the weekends, but then some evenings i just think " come on, get off your **** and go do.."

But i see things i don't like and wanna get it changed to be what in my eyes is better. Or if not better just different or nicer. Some times i can just be thinking about it and see the way i'd like it, then i just try and do it.
Car was at the bodyshop last night and to day as the tail gate needed tweaking and adjusting, as it had sat on one corner for a while in the box, Keith (old boss and owner of the bodyshop) asked me how the hell i drive it with it so old and hard and bumpy.. I said you get used to it and you have to suffer for the looks..lol But driving it home thru town was a good place to look at it in shop windows..

I did think about the Corsa servo when i re did the bay, was a lil worried about fitting and getting it all right and working and such so left it. I rather get the air filter and afm out of the bay..lol

Again thank you very much.

It shouldn't do, as it would only make it over fuel. But its just something i wanted to remove as a prob. Coil isn't grounded at all. But it never has been.. So i'll check it but it should be a prob. Have tried my two other coils, both the same. I've checked alot of the loom everything looks ok, cant see any parts where the outer covering is damaged. But i'll have a look again.

The engine runs ok with the afm unplugged so that shouldn't affect it.. But as above i'll pull iy out and check it all over just in case.
