Just pulled the box off and found this on my 106 gti, was convinced i had murdered the gearbox by the manner in which it let go and fact I couldn't get any gears with engine on or off but touch wood it seems to be ok, so happy days :)

The scoring on the pressure plate diaphragm springs from the realise bearing is crazy, only about quarter of a mm if that left on them and bearing is seized solid lol.

Lol i did consider that when i first saw the springs but its alot more mullered than it looks in the picture, where the spring goes in its bent from the impact of a 7.5k gear change and many many more before it lol. Plus the release bearing is siezed solid lol and with it been only 48 quid for a replacement seems daft to not change it all with the box off.

Bugger all works, had imsomina (sp?) For about 7-8 years, nothing works. Even tried valum, that helped for a week or so, then by body grew to fight it.
Only been maybe 2years ive slept better for. Can sleep from 11ish till 7/8. But i still wake up alot in that, but can get back to sleep quick.

Hope you get over it too.

glad to hear you managed to finally get some. :thumb:
most people under estimate how important sleep is. the body cant repair/recharge/digest/electrically communicate with itself, anywhere near as effective as usual.

ive tried all sorts of wacky, unorthadox stuff, to see any minute improvements. ive found some things, but not many.

diet control helps, but you have to be so strict with what you put into your mouth, that its hard to stick to.
stopping smoking helps, (better oxygen utilization is a big one), which i really need to do, but its got its hooks in me, and not so easy.
ive noticed differences in the positions you sleep too. like 2 hours flat on your back, is as good as 4 hours on your front. and legs need to be outstretched too, to take the strain off your lower half muscles.
various certain things like that.
im sure youve also tried a lot yourself during those 8 years.

last year the nhs tried me out on a batch of there heftiest knock-out pills, but still didnt work.
quite scary actually those pills, as they basically disabled my body. an hour after taking them, i went to get up out of a chair, to go take a piss, and i fell to the floor, as my legs didnt seem to work, very quickly after that i lost the use of the rest of my body, and was unable to move for about an hour. all i could do was stare at the ceiling, whilst being wide awake, untill i could get up again.
crazy pills !

luckily managed to hold my bladder, and didnt piss myself on the floor lol

Andy

What has caused this to happen?

jimbob-mcgrew
22-11-14, 07:46 AM
10 years ago, in another job, i was at work, and was asked to help out in the machine shop for a particular job that needed doing.
i was angle grinding steel plates, in a small semi-enclosed part of the shop, for about 3 hours, and wasnt wearing ear defenders, so got a double dose of hearing damage and cronic bi-lateral tinnitus.

the hearing damage came on pretty much instantly, which isnt a major issue, i can get by ok, just cant hear things well.
the tinnitus didnt make itself present untill about 4 years after that, but i knew it was linked to the incident as its the exact same ringing sound i had in my head for about a week after the grinding discomfort.

so after that 4 year gap, the tinnitus made itself known, and for 2 years it didnt bother me really. untill 4 years ago, it just randomly stepped up its game, which started effecting my sleep bit by bit gradually, more and more, as it seemed to get worse in stages, every 6 months, knocking off an hours sleep time each time it got worse.

my own fault for not wearing ear protection really, but at the same time, im a bit pissed off they didnt give me any, only safety glasses. if i was older and wiser at the time, i would have known better.

since the beggining of 2011, the lack of sleep has completely wrecked my quality of life, but im gonna beat it tho, whatever it takes. if i have to go and live in a cave on the edge of a forest, surviving only on rain water, and fasting for 30 days, ill do it lol

i take it you have removed energy drinks & caffeine from your intake.

we have a lad at work who some days is going round the place like a hummingbird... and he lives on about 6 of those 500ml cheapo (from one stop shops) energy drinks, and also likes lucozade orange in between.... people have accused him of being on something illegal.

never done too well with those weird energy drinks, they seem to do the opposite for me, and make me crash within half hour, instead of giving energy.

have you been to see an ENT specialist?
Id get that checked out to rule out an acoustic neuroma.
I drilled a hole at work in april and had a humming noise in my ear for months afterwards, after frightening myself to death on google I went to drs and got referred.Checked everything including mri brain scan and all ok,the noise eventually just went.
I wasn't having dramas like that though, thats not from grinding once,no chance,it would have to have been that loud it caused physical pain to result in the symptoms you describe.

I stopped drinking coke, only a pint maybe a day, didn't help at all. Drink it again now after 6/7 years and i'm fine with it.

I do find going to the gym late helps me alot. I go at 7pm some days, for 2 hours. Quick protein rich dinner, really hot shower then bed. The heat plus muscle pain/work out really helps me crash to sleep quicker.

If you go back afew years and look at my posts on Mig most are 11pm till 4am kinda time. When i simply couldn't sleep..

Said he'd post them. Then when not received said he'd chase it up. 5 weeks later get a call saying he'd been abroad after I text him saying PayPal were refunding me. Thats what I thought, I had to ask twice lol and when I added non standard wheels and suspension the price didn't alter either lol it was through rh insurance on a classic policy and in 29, they said on classic policy they don't take no claims into account and you don't build them, but this is a second car anyway.

That is correct Benn, I didn't slam the brakes intentionally. It's not like I wanted to have the bumper replaced, it was more a case of the bumper looks decidedly secondhand and I'll get round to it at some point. Well, that point has been reached a bit sooner than anticipated.

Yes it was a promo car for a company in Prague and and they had the Air Brush work done like Southie say's its the back of the gear box and prop shaft with the exhaust below it on the side's.Front wing is the suspension, bonnet is the suspension top mounts and a part of the boxer engine in see through form and on the back bumper is the back box and tail pipe, all done in a ghost style.

before you get even more moist about why the roads are amazing, the houses are smashing & the public transport runs on time, just remember why this is...........

during ww2, we blew the merry hell out of every single piece of infrastructure in northern europe..... but most of our old stuff survived the war.
then, whilst the yanks gave post war west germany heaps of money to build new everything to annoy stalin's eastern bloc, we brits were paying off our war debts to america (which finished about 8 years ago!!!!) and still have crap roads, crap towns, crap trains, crap everything else really......

some fool ringing up the office and saying 'can I speak to [person's name]? he's a groundworker with you, can you put me through to his extension?'

so, I decided to point out that his statement contradicted his question. he got upset with me, and wouldn't tell me what the call was about....I like baiting telesales people. a lot
