Fix my ****ing phone line then!

Finally got a BT engineer round today, while I was out, because it turns out Sky really had booked an appointment today, which they thought they hadn't. Turns out they never actually put a phone line in in the first place so he can't do anything lol

Do you use strava?

And if youve put weight on, id guess its muscle youve gained, my weight has stayed the same all summer even though ive been pushing myself harder and harder on the bike and ive hit the 1000 mile target i set myself at the beginning of summer last week!

Ive leaned off a little but my leg muscles are huge in comparison to what they used to be, my thigh muscles are becoming defined and my calf muscles are going that square bulked out shape they do too :d

But, ive also had a full month off the alcohol and ive actually dropped a stone!!

Few beers tonight as ive finished my month of abstinence, but i wont be hitting the beers as much as i used to:thumb:

Drop your calories by 500 and you notice a difference in weight fairly quickly, or even a fat burner added in like T5 or ephedrine.

Strava is an app to track your rides. It has the bonus of virtual racing too so on a hill or segment you can push harder knowing you can try and beat someone else.... Is silly but great motivation.

ephs and t5's are fukking crap
Trust me I have tried every fat burner out there, grenades, hydroxycut, animal cuts the lot and theyre sh1t,waste of money.Theres no easy fix, nothing is better than a good diet and high intensity excersize

bazzap8389
01-11-13, 08:19 PM
Personally never used t5 but I've used ephedrine ( the real stuff) went from 15% bodyfat to 11% in matter of weeks, that was along with good exercise though.

also I said he could add one in I didn't say to only rely on one.

www.Strava.com its a tracking app, very very useful as you can see your times improving and pace yourself against other riders aswell, i love it!

My weight has been the same for ages and ive cut pretty much everything out apart from beer (which ive just done for a month) and although i can see and feel my muscles building up, and my weight not changing (which says straight away that im burning fat and replacing it with muscle) because im not physically dropping in weight it is disheartening, but stick at it though mate, but tbf if youre enjoying your biking, and youre having fun, then thats all that really matters:thumb:

Andy
01-11-13, 08:40 PM
When you stop droping weight you need to up your game,ie drop some more calories or up the intensity.
You will build a little muscle, but not constantly.

Buy a nice bike then, ive got two, ones a 1998 kona with almost full xt and xtr, and ones a 1993 with lx and xt, both are properly fun to ride, the 1993 Lava Dome cost me about £90 off ebay and has about £50 thrown at it, and is just as fun offroad as the 1998 one, its not always down to what you ride, we did a 24 mile local ride at the weekend (which took in lots of the biggest climbs, which equated to over 2000 feet of climbing) and one lad rode a 1992 raleigh activator and was at the front of the pack all the way round, i kid you not!

Stuart

For normal riding, no you do not want a dh rig, and most likely you don't need a full bounce (plus with us larger gents they areally aren't capable of taking us either). A decent spec hard tail will more than see you right.
im in a middle of the range bike and it too, shed loads of time off my rides compared to the old heavy thing I had before.

In which case you want a modern hardtail, theyre all set up in the 'sit up and beg' position these days, go into your local shops and have a nosey, just avoid bikehut/halfords lol

I really wouldnt suggest a DH bike as there is only one thing you can do with it, go down hills, fine you might think, but what about going up the other side?

I rode Dalby forest a few years back with a mate on a DH rig, struggled to keep up with him on the downs, but i was stood about at the top of every climb whilst he walked up them, bored the crap out of me and ive never ridden with him again!

finding out my favourite all time pizza place, which was bought & went downhill faster than a speed skier, is back under old management!!! the people who used to own ponchinello's in Hinckley have bought it back & are now beginning to rebuild its reputation.... they have simply put the old menu back on, and are using decent ingredients, as opposed to the shyte the buyers substituted to try to screw more money out of us. I had one this evening & am quite happy. that is all

I mended my roof last Saturday... some of the ridges had blown off & about a dozen tiles had cracked..
I looked at the roof in general & decided the ladders method would possibly put me in A&E, so I went into the loft, pulled some tiles out, cut a few laths & made a suitable hole.. then I went up a stepladder & fixed the damage, screwed the laths back in & put the tiles back in their places..... I was actually boringly quite easy... and saved me several hundred quid

So today was remove the root from under the ridge tiles on the roof. With the aid of a safety harness and some 12mm polypropylene rope, which I tied off to a wood telegraph pole, I made the climb to the top. I must admit this would not have been possible without a harness. After lifting the ridge tile where the root was sticking out, I soon realised the roots went in both directions deep within the brickwork. Everything just wobbled out.

there was not sand/cement holding anything as the roots and weather have eaten everything. It turned into a much bigger job than I thought!!!!!

i still haven't got all the roots out, but sprayed everything with root killer and I'm gonna chop the rest out tomorrow. Then I can start putting the brickwork back together and sourcing some 100year old roll top tiles to replace the damaged ones.

I'm well chuffed with my performance. The cheapest quote I got without realising how bad it was going to be was £1300. It would defiantly of got more expensive due to the damage.

I was asked to provide goals, so I used gas pipe & re-bar. they assembled it all themselves & got some right funny looks & comments from the locals....

spent Mother's Day rebuilding the top of the damaged wall so I can start to repair the proxy leaking ridge tiles. It's obvious the bush growing in the roof has been there a long time, but its time to fix it proper.

Having spent two days swinging around on a rope throwing to balance bricks, buckets and ridge tiles, I've decided to get the whole front and side scaffolded to strip it down properly and rebuilding the edge ridge fully. I can also paint the front and side while it's up.

Any info on how much scaffold costs would be appreciated.

Not when you have fallen of it's defo cheaper to be alive FFS get it scaffolded and think how much you will save in repairs and painters etc for the bits you said you were gona do

I know the ladder was too steep, because i wanted the keep the recomended three step overlap it barely reached. I only had 1 step overlap spare. roof work on a ladder Is supposed to have a 3 foot overheight on the lowest level but my ladder just wasn't tall enough. I had a 2000kg rope and full torso harness, so most of my weigh was on the rig luckily!!

i'm looking into an access tower, the problem is the small pavement down the side and private road access and pissy residents.

Cheers for the advice though.

Fukk em,a contractor would do the same. Its the only way, aslong as you put cones out to barrier yourself off (falling gear etc) then youre working well within H&S regulations,i know this as iv done a very boring course on working at height and coning areas off etc.

No worries, only other alternative is a cat ladder, which hooks over your ridge, but for this you ideally want a much bigger ladder than youre using to scale the roof onto it.

I did look at buying one, but it seemed like a waste of money for one job. I have to put my current ladder in my loft as I don't have a garden. lol
