Folding shovel? So there's some truth to the 'murdering prostitutes' joke on Top Gear.

ok, we've all done that in our time.... but when you have to stop for a tacho break in the middle of nowhere, or an overnight on an industrial estate etc.... burying a poo is quite useful...

Know what you mean it winds me up seeing your tools and parts being ruined by moisture. Garages should be water tight.

novadave24
17-12-14, 11:06 PM
So the other day they came out to fix the problem said they done something to the roof ok so I wipe all the wet bits in the garage dry .
last night it rained so went to the garage today and still the same but even more I ant even going to pay for the garage now I going to look for one for rent or some were so I can store my car so pissed.

And tonight the sky box keeps going off

Can't you get someone out Dave to give you a second opinion, if you get them to put it in writing of maybe the faults they find then send that to the council with your disapproval and see what they say... Probably pisssing in the wind though I suppose.

novadave24
17-12-14, 11:53 PM
Could do but it just takes the piss that it take about 5 months for them to come out I am just thinking might just use it as a garage for car parts to store because I am going to get cars that fail mots or engines that are no good and strip them and sell them in parts but I really want my golf in a well dryed stored place .

Get loads of expanding foam in the roof Dave, that should fill the gaps in, or are you liable if you mess around with it?

novadave24

I have already put expanding foam in all the cracks and gaps but still getting water drip from the place it come from and well I might give some people a call and see what they say.

Council are useless here too with the lockups. I have 2 one is perfect never any water in it etc the other one the hinge in the door is goosed so if I open it fully it's an absolute mare to close it again and it's damp. Not the best when they're £12 a week each. I'm currently waiting for another one to pop up.

novadave24
18-12-14, 12:32 AM
That's what I am after a nice size lock up that is bone dry and safe were I can put my golf and tools.

Andy
23-12-14, 08:55 PM
I was able to go by following the traffic out the junction the wrong way up the empty slip road being directed before the closure of the road.
As i got out onto the a64 the road was standstill where it happened from scarboro and from malton (opp direction)
Some fukkin guttersnake pulled out from behind the line of traffic in an attempt to go round the standstill on the wrong side of the road into the path of me and what was behind me.
I was upset by what id just seen and when i saw this clownshoe i saw red mist.I thought il just hit you then as he wasnt moving.
He pulled in and started waving his arms all over shouting when i stopped he wound the window down so i pulled alongside and tokd him exactly what i thought of him and his manoeveure.
He was one comment away fron getting pulled out his car trust me.

unfortunately there are some people that are so self centred that they should not be allowed behind the wheel of anything, they think their car is some sort of cocoon made from kryptonite, they seem to suffer from selective tunnel vision, and simply don't register a motorbike as needing space.

there is a junction not far from my work. it is a stop, not a give way, and it is onto a road that takes very little traffic, but the visibility is almost nil because of an old cottage right on the corner & you have to stop to look. we use the road the junction goes onto to get to & from the yard quite often & the number of times we have to do emergency stops cos some ar$e thinks 'its ok, surely nobody will be coming, i'll just pull out' the other day my nephew had to emergency stop a 230hp tractor with a 20t excavator on the back... he had the car driver by the neck whilst explaining road traffic law to him.

mowgli
24-12-14, 08:31 AM
finding out why i couldn't get my concrete on monday in newark...........

the concrete company has instigated a training course for drivers to 'help them improve'

so instead of driving round, delivering concrete, they were put in a minibus, taken the 40 odd miles to leicester, where they had to ride bikes round the city centre for 3.5hrs to help them be aware of vulnerable road users!!!!!!! the driver i had on tuesday was still livid, he had pointed out to the training people that as a wagon driver, he spent all of his sodding working life looking out for other road users, and being located in a rural area, was fully aware of cyclists, horses & dog walkers...

seriously, how do imbeciles like this training manager actually get such high paying jobs???? the world would be safer if they made cyclists ride in a lorry cab to see what the driver has to put up with.

Andy
24-12-14, 09:47 AM
Everybody is as bad as each other on the road.
motorcyclists can be cunnts car drivers too.
pushbikers also.
the problem lies not within the mode of transport but the person operating it.If people were a bit more considerate and gave things a bit more thought unnecessary accidents would not happen.
Like people who overtake me and two behind me at 90 easily on a dark bend. Why do they need to risk their own lives and more importantly lives of others to get to work?
I only lose quarter of an hr pay.i dont even get a rollocking.

my wpyot is:

driving to leicester (usually enough on it's own) to 'mark out' an industrial excavation job, because according to the 3 blokes we had sent to the site claimed it was impossible to sort out.

i got there & said to the client, 'just what is it that we need to be doing?' he then proceeded to spend less than 30 seconds describing the job exactly, whilst walking round it pointing at things.....he then said 'i've already shown your staff twice'....

and if that wasn't enough, i then had to sit thru a 45 minute induction followed by an exam, then had to spend another 30 mins having a 'toolbox' talk about apparent site issues that were actually nothing to do with our part of the project.

so all in all it took me from 7.15 till 11.00 to spend 30 seconds going over what the numpties already knew, but none of them appeared capable of simply getting on with it.

they basically made 5500 decent ones. the rest of the good ones were called sapphires.

anything called xr...... were not that good.
xr2 was good.
2i was a poor mans turbo as was a 3i
4x4 2.9 especially with a tt conversion was serious business

sorry, but the comment was about sierras....

xr4i was a tail happy thing with a thirsty ship anchor of an engine...

xr4x4 wasn't so tail happy, but still had the shocking engine.....

as for xr2.. ok, they were good.. the mk1 was hampered by having a Xflow lump.... the mk2 had the cvh, which was better but still in crappy carb form wasn't great.... now a mk2 xr2i would have been better...

i will never ever in my life ever ever (and did i mention ever?) like a mk3 escort of any description..... shyte engine & box.... poor chassis, and i ended up in hospital for a week, couldn't see straight for a month, couldn't walk for 2 because of a sodding mk3 1.6ghia the mrs owned that folded round me at surprisingly low speed in an accident.. oh & i still struggle to put names to faces 20 years afterwards......and my left leg still lets me know when the weather is about to change cos of the ironwork in it.......

mr southie...... i think i might agree with you...

i know i upset people wuth my views about certain engines, but anything gm made with a turbo that runs on petrol does appear to have a lot of problems compared to other makes.... including ford.....

ps. the cossie sierra engine was unique.. they all claimed it was based on the ford pinto lump, but it was actually based on the dimensions of one.. it was way stronger. this is where gm went wrong, they got the idea that a std n/a block would cope with turbo boost... it needs a lot of cash to do it properly.

sounds spot on to me.
ive had a mk1 fiesta with a kent/crossflow engine in, and it was guttless compared to most other manufacturer equivalents.
ive also owned a mk4 escort, which underneath, is practically the same as a mk3, and out of about 15 cars, its the worst handling car ive owned.
the cvh went from poo carb, to much better in MPI form like you say. i loved how that mpi engine sounded, but it blew up on me, despite driving it gently 90% of the time.
had a capri aswell, which the rear diff exploded, and seized/locked up on me, which was the end of that car.

all bar a mk5 fiesta, which was relatively reliable, with a decent zetec-se engine in, ive not had alot of fun or luck from fords myself.

Two things today

1) Seeing for the second time in last 5 days a Passat going along with 3 people in the front and 5 in the back, not only are they getting away with it, they clearly have no reguard for their children or anyone else's safety for that matter

2) My biggest gripe for the day, actually year, Ill sound like a pointless moaning c*nt here but hey, i Walk my son to Nursery and back everyday with his little sister, not because its easier, not even to save money but because i want him to be healthy and active and not become shaufered about everywhere and lazy, half way through our Journey we see one of the mothers put her lad in the car and drive there

its a 2 minute walk but the lazy bit*h cant be arsed to spend 10 minutes of her life walking him there and back and instead just chucks him in the car, hell for how quick he got out today (late again after stuck at the crossroads in traffic) id bet he wasnt even belted in, its -2 and he gets out eating a chocolate bar and in a t shirt dragging his bag along, have people no respect for their kids these days?

I understand and agree with the fact I shouldn't have been slagging my managers off drunk or sober but tbf they slag each other off which annoys me (I did tell the owner this and he is going to email them about it) and even though they don't really like each other if someone f*cks up one runs to the other and tells them, its like WTF the youngest is 25/26 I'm 28 and the brewery manager is 31 I think, it's like being back at school!

As for the pub manager I didn't consider him a matey mate but I have been to his and had a few pints with him before in the pub after work so I don't understand why he is being a dick, this could have all been avoided if someone pulled me up and had a quiet word.

a few weeks back, i went to get some stuff from wickes on the way back from a job, to fix something at the office... i had my grey L200 & an 18' long flat trailer, so i had to park down where the wagons go with deliveries....

so, i start slowly reversing out, and i mean 1/2mph slow, with my hazards & sidelights on. as i start to back into the car parky bit, so i can turn round, some coffin dodger hurtles backwards out of a spacehopper bay in his 51 reg golf & smacks my trailer on the side, in line with the wheels.... i stopped, he pulled forwards & climbed out with a look of disgust on his face, and then his missus does to.. so i opened my side window, and backed up to where he was stood... i pointed out that he would have done no damage to my trailer when he ran into it, so i was not going to give him any details, as it was 100% his fault for not looking, and i left...

so to recap, a man hit my trailer on private land because he didn't look.

today, a letter arrived from the police. they apparently plan to prosecute us for about 5 traffic offences, as our large white van with the (previous name before we went Limited) company logo had been involved in an accident with this blokes car.

1. we don't own a large white van..
2. we have 2 medium sized white transits with the old name on them
3. no mention was made of a trailer
4. my L200 still has the old logo on, but they apparently decided to look on the interweb to get some details & went to the police with them.
5. FFS it was a 6" crack in the paint on his bumper.

anyway, my brother told the cops to go away........

Tough one, this. I have a lady friend with a son who has become a daughter several years ago... and eh/she's into females as well. Does that classify her as a lesbian? God knows. All I know she (the mother) is struggling to accept her son's new found life as a young lady. Not only that, the girl has moved to Thailand because she was getting an awful lot of stick over here. Apparently that sort of thing is widely accepted in Thailand.

As for going for a beer with your mate, yes it's the best thing I can think of. Just be there to listen. Don't try to be a counsellor yourself, just be yourself and listen.

1st of all Stuarty is bang on, for a kid to be honest with you like that shows good parenting

Few years ago when a warehouse supervisor we had a nice girl start, when doing the induction walkaround and asking if she knew anyone working here she said i probably knew her mum, "its Leanne in the offices upstairs" i stupidly replied "but shes a lesbian ......" what a dick i felt for the rest of the 10 minutes

turns out, her mum and dad had been together for 10 years, married for 7 and then when the daughter was 6 the mother decided she was a lesbian and she couldnt carry on the "show" anymore and that shed been seeing another woman for 6 months  i felt so sorry for the dad without even meeting him but most of all for Tess, my comment hurt / offended but im sure we can all imagine just how hurtfull some intentional comments wouldve been at high school, i know for some men the whole 'mrs getting off with another woman' is a fantasy and theyd love it to happen, for me it isnt and i honestly think id have a fooking break down, how you deal with it with kids in the situation is beyond me

i do ebay, have 80+ items listed a month on there selling mostly car parts, a good 80% has always been via postage however on doors and bonnets etc i insist on collection due to damage, ive now had no less than 5 enquiries about front end panelwork set im selling off a car despite saying in the add collection only they all ask how much posted , the chance of a Bonnet,Bumper, 2 wings and 2 headlights getting there without damage is slim to none with business couriers, a private courier quote i had done was £90 for a 180 mile one way trip i thought this good but nope "thats a rip off"

why is everyone so damn lazy these days? get in the car you clearly have and come collect the damn panels, i wouldnt mind but when one said despite my protests due to past damage, he'd " send Tnt collect them mate, just put some wrap around them mate" i replied, "sure, ill do that, just make sure when doing the paypal payment you click pay as gift" to which i got the unfathomably stupid reply "why would i do that? you could con me or if theyre wrecked im stuck with them, im reporting you to ebay" yes, but you said theyre not going to get damaged....

Strange this, lots of people currently looking to move for what ever reason.

I'm caught between 2 currently, have a lot of respect for one of my customers and don't really want to leave him in the **** with some fairly big projects coming up in London, however, I've lost a fair amount of cash through lack of Overtime over the past year, part of which makes me get to the stage I'm at now, looking around to see what is out there.

If your customers appreciate what you do, but know the company is poo, they will get over it and still accept you when your paths cross again. I had similar with my last job in that I went out of my way to make the best of a bad situation for my customers but they knew the shortcomings of the company, I'm still friends with the guys in the various places so all good.

I'm looking for a new job, while I'm paid well, I'm bored silly and only being used at about 10% of my capacity. This does my head in and I also feel its a massive waste for the employer. I've mentioned it many times and nothing happens... pesky large companies.

Sounds like we're in the same place then Stuart.

I have had a few discussions with the said customer to which he has sort of approached me, however its all dependant on him getting funding depends on my next move. I'd be happy with getting out of the office, which is where most of the issues are with directors all getting too hot under the collar, taking it out on others.
about a year ago I was running at 110%, over worked but happy with the pay, now I'm scratching around for work plus they have no long term plan for me so I think my minds made up, its just finding the right job to go to after spending 16 years here!

2. A transit with ongoing poor running issues, and the lads have checked everything, so I finally got chance to look, and within a second, I found one of the intercooler pipes hadnt been put back on and tightened up, after we did a repair 3 months ago.
3. One of our tractor drivers used copper grease to stop damp getting into a beacon plug. Now, as copper is a great electrical conductor, you'd think that people might think that it was blindingly obvious that the fuses will keep blowing until the grease is totally removed....

God I love days in the workshop.

the problem is that we have got lots of staff & lots of vehicles and we could probably manage to keep a decent mechanic in work for 3 days a week, easily..... but i'm doing 60 odd hours a week already, and simply can't manage to repair everything... we did hire one last year, but he was truly the largest bullsh!tter on the planet.. his idea of fixing a machine was to clean it & put it back in the store.. he couldn't even bleed thru a perkins diesel engine, which i learnt when i was 8

Secirity protocol or somthing automated, because I had suspicious payments or some crap really not happy

Andy

I cant understand why they do that.if your account is live and uses a bank account whats the issue?
The more money their users make the more they make.
iv once been paid for 32 items in one day when i had over 40items from a car i broke listed.Never had any bother.
Iirc the only time they twist is when you reach your limit of deposits which is about 10grand,or at least it used to be.

you'd think... its a non std bore pipe, and apparently (according to the manager himself) its a new computer system causing it, so when i pointed out that they no doubt managed to send out the correct size length of pipe before the new computer, and the same part no was used, so maybe, just maybe if they put the idiot who picked the item wrong twice on the phone to me, then i'd give him a few choice words of encouragement........

People may think PNG is strictly moderated.... Try one of the Abarth 500 forums, oh my word, what a bunch of spineless goons.
i saw/heard a car with a fairly quiet exhaust (standard is quite loud) and asked what it may be. This led to the suggestion I should get a Prius if I wanted quiet, to which I said I'm mad not speshul. Someone else wanted speshul explaining so I did by saying I can't write the ride word I wanted due to the efficient moderation. I came back a few hours later and voila, all posts after the Prius one are gone with no mod message lol

So, i know you are dying to know about my fuel pipe......

a 3rd jiffy bag arrived this morning.

i opened it, and found a 200mm long piece of pipe..... but 1.5mm too big on the diameter!!!!!!

so i rang the manager at the parts place. i then explained, in very small words, how to make sure they actually get the right sodding pipe sent.

he apologised and grovelled and said he'd refund me, and i said ' i couldn't care less about the refund, i just want the right pipe at the right diameter and the right length, and i want it in the post so i can mend the machine, i ask nothing more'

so on monday, i'll update

i'll bet that the boss man will be sh!tting himself at about 10am, when my postie arrives....i plan to actually ring him to thank him when it does arrive..

what galls me the most is that i actually spent about 8 years in the parts business, and i never, ever had something like this happen. i once got offered a job based purely on the fact that i turned up at a supplier warehouse 2 days in a row to collect stuff & had to correct them both days, i used to take delivery of 1000 line stock orders & be able to sort it in a couple of hours, i used to send parts info to a major tractor manufacturer's parts tech dept on new production models that would be launched 2 months before the parts book was published. i also was sent on training days and would end up telling them things... and supplying what the customer wants 1st time is all i expect....

something like this is driving me absolutely sodding loopy.

I guess its the realisation that the few Internet forums I call 'home' are the pinnacles of free speech, messing about and most importantly not taking themselves too seriously. As I venture out to other sites for other Marques, I find that as they have appeared 'recently' (as in after the invention of forums etc) they try far too hard and have zero soul or fun about them.

yes that's seemingly hypocritical or blinkered to come from me, but its the honest feeling I get from these other places.

Dropping off some parts to be electroplated and asking for zinc gold passivate. Told it would take 2 weeks but after 3 weeks of not hearing anything I called them to see what is happening. They say they cannot get the paint off one item so they cannot electroplate it but everything else was done. Went to pic them up this morning and find they have zinc plated them but looks nothing like the yellow passivate I asked for. His reply was, 'oh, we dont do that finish anymore, I should have mentioned that when you dropped them off'. Yeah you should have, now I need to get them done elsewhere. Just wasted 3 weeks of my time and money. Also they hadn't even touched the painted plate and they managed to lose another part. Bloody joke!

our firm has a gritting contract, so i get up at effing early o'clock , and set off up the m1 to the frozen wastes of sheffield.. thru the 22 odd miles of narrow lane 50 limit cos apparently someone is storing cones there, its ok, they are behind large concrete barriers.... i do the gritting, and head south... now, this return journey takes 90 mins, including a stop off near nottingham to do a small car park... but it took 2 hrs... why??, i hear you all yell... because some tit broke down almost within sight of the end of the 22 miles of narrow lane...and even though it was downhill, and they were right next to one of those gaps in the barrier for lorries to get in & out, so they could have safely waited for rescue... NO, they stopped dead in lane1... thanks for that, you ungrateful get.....

today.

I was born within 2 miles of the site of the battle of bosworth, where Richard III died. for the last 20 odd years, i've been regularly doing building work at the battle centre. its a nice place, miles of woodland walks, a decent cafe, and if you want, a museum. they are planning a long funeral procession as part of the reburial of Richard III. they are holding a memorial service at the centre in a couple of weeks, and are selling 2000 tickets on a 1st come 1st serve basis... sales are either on-line, in person, or over the phone, according to the press release... my eldest daughter was off from college today, so she offered to go & queue. so at 8.30am she got there. 5th in the line, feeling pretty confident.... then 10am came, when the sales started.. and this is the WPYOT

the ar$ehole IT people at Leicestershire county council arranged the sales thus: all sales are to be processed on-line. a woman was on the ticket desk, with a pc, and was to process orders using the same setup as internet buyers... oh, and another woman was sat next to the phone, with a pc, and was expected to also go on-line to process the orders.... so 1st people got their tickets & the website crashed properly. it sporadically worked thru the day, and at 3:30 my daughter left without tickets, and was told to keep an eye on the interweb to see if the site comes back to life.....

can the techy people on here explain to me in simple terms just how useless these IT people are......... 2000 tickets FFS, its hardly london 2012, or a one dire-erection tour, they couldn't even put a couple of hundred by for face to face sales....
