The problem with with modern cars is they have been overcomplicated with modern electrics and emissions systems. The weight of vehicles has increased due to the aforementioned electrics and emissions components plus tons of safety equipment. This, plus many other things like cars being designed by computers making them all look alike has made the modern mass produced car very boring.
Bikes don't really suffer this problem. The only emissions you have to worry about would be caused by last nights tea. I dont think an airbag and seatbelt would be a great deal of use on a bike. Modern materials being produced cheaper has made the modern bike better and lighter(Thinks back to the Raleigh Lizzard I owned which weighed the same as a Chieftan Tank!). Better brakes and gear systems make the hills more pleasant knowing the chain isn't going to sod off when you are giving it some on the way up the hill and you can stop on the way down. Mind you I suppose that takes away a little of the excitement lol

With bikes, modern day frame geometry makes hell of a difference, as does hydraulic disc brakes

I'm currently awaiting delivery of a new bike, Cannondale Trail SL 1, probably end up stripping my 1997 Cannondale down for bits, as Retro as it is you can't take away it rides like a sack of crap

This is true. Which is why ive just bought a Mk1 DMR Trailstar rather than the newest one lol
Oh and the noticable increase in the price of panels (including secondhand) over the past year has pissed me off. Why do people think a second hand pair of wings are worth £60+?! i bought my pair of new pattern ones and a sill for less than that.

Exactly, i like what i like, so thats what i ride, ive tried newer bikes and i dont get on with them, im going to get something 'newer' but not fully modern, i do want a decent full bouncer, something like a specialized FSR from early 2000's i think, dont get on with disc brakes at all, no matter how good they are, decent well setup v brakes are very good, and magura's are comparable to discs in stopping power, but are easier to modulate in my experience :p

today crap goings on ....

The neighbours

This is a ongoing problem, i have already had to have a quiet word with the chap about the womens treatment of their kids after another neighbour stopped me to raise his concerns, initially i thought its not of my business but it was boarder line abuse.

Today i get a continued knock at the door until i answer, as im laid up with kidney stones it took a while for me to answer, ' my lad has kicked his ball over the fence and i need it back now as im about to go out' im told,
explained that i aint too well and im not going crawling through the garden looking for a ball

This seemed to give the 'women neighbour' the right to launch into some tirade about her mega busy life, how hard it is and 'you dont understand' ffs. IF YOU FIND IT HARD DON'T HAVE 3 KIDS THEN !!!!!!!!!

If she was a bloke i would of just decked out on the front lawn lol i was fcuking fuming and i cant even have a drink as im on some medication

I really coming to end of my patience with these fools next door

BUT, the Mrs's sister came round shortly afterwards with her Boxxer dog who promptly found the ball in the garden and had shredded the ball to bits, ill chuck it back over the fence bit later lol

Personally my interest pretty much stops dead when anything knew what the millenium bug was when it was made :p

If someone was in a car with me and tried to help me steer, brake, apply the throttle and cut back on my emissions by stuffing one header down the inlet they'd get more than a fukking slap... don't see why anyone puts up with a car trying the same!

They're overweight, overcomplicated, overexpensive and mostly due to stupid laws to try and protect average joe when he decides full lock with foot flat on the brakes is an excellent evasive maneuver.

And if something exploding in your face is so safe, why aren't they fitted to race cars in place of proper structural integrity and capable restraints?

hell yes hs33's are for winners, i bought a rear one when i was 13 and it lasted me till i sold it on when i was 19. we used to put water in then instead of oil as it never went spongey and i had a grinded rim with clear pads not that the lasted long

Compromise is my guess.
Both in materials used for structure, and the type of restraints fitted to the majority of cars.

Can you really see run-of-the-mill family cars with carbon fibre monocoques, space frames and non-intertia reel seatbelts?

We need crumple zones, and as such, we need airbags. A fixed harness is impractical at the best of times. Not to mention also requiring an appropriate seat.

the uk is littered with downhill tracks that run an uplift service. and you'll find that most of us serious downhillers own a large van/pickup so when riding with a few mates everyone chucks in some fuel and takes it in turns to drive the uplift road! theres no greater buzz than downhill riding.

What he said^. Hot water to soften the hair, use cold water to rinse the blade ( hot water fcuks up the blade ) and go with the grain. Thats how i stopped getting the rash etc anyway. Although now i just do my whole face and head with bare clippers extended out, far less hassle.

Ringing 43 separate scrap yards, looking for a mk3/4 Escort, to no avail.
The last one I rang had an X reg mk3 in.

I drove down, which is about an 80 mile round trip, to find some two-bit, backwoods garage with about 4 cars around the back. The only Escort?
A ****ing '97 R reg mk6.

The senile old **** who I spoke to on the phone even went outside to check for me when I was on the phone. That's when he said it was 'an old X reg'.

I had a breaker bar in the boot, along with many other tools, and due to their ignorance and bare-faced lying, I could have quite easily windmilled the three of them this morning. lol

try waiting 15 years for her to get her head round losing weight.......

and then cos she's been off her feet, i've been having to run the house, and my kids have been allowed to get away with simply dumping stuff cos the mrs has always been running round after them tidying & cleaning for all these years whilst i've been at work.. and i won't accept behavior like it.

Get in there first, either report him for threatening behaviour / play the same game and make up stuff about him or play him at his own game, either go and smack the cack out of him, or threaten him back!

So we had bought a few tons of gravel, and it came today in big trucks, i showed them where to offload it and somehow they managed to get themselves stuck in some mud. They then proceeded to spin the wheels for a good 5 minutes before i managed to speak them into sense. They were polish and didnt speak a WORD of english, so working with them to get their trucks out was a bloody effort. It took us 2 and a half hours, alot of digging, towing, putting planks under the huge wheels, but eventually got them out. They were so pissed that they just emptied the gravel there and then and drove off. What a day...

i was on tippers for a couple of years, then on groundworks for about 10 years...

i've never been frightened of telling a driver or a customer if its not safe to tip..

but some idiot spinning their wheels on loose ground trying to get in to tip wants dragging out of the cab & showing how to do it...and i've done that too

its more of the fact I still live with my mum while im saving for my own place. I've already been broken in numerous times by cnuts after my bikes, I found out who 1 of them was and he had his face broken to pieces, then my mums car got keyed! I just don't want trouble being brought to my mums... its not fair on her!

That's fair enough. As I said, get CCTV, inform the police and move stuff into actual secure storage for a period of time or try (if you can afford it) to rent a lock up/garage to keep the bikes/car at etc. Hope you can sort it out though, doesn't sound a nice situation for anyone.

Jobsworth invigilators and ridiculous procedures, had my uni ID declined in an exam because it's out of date, I didn't realise because I never use it for anything except exams and it was fine last year (been out of date for 2)... still has a photo ID, name signature etc on it and I couldn't just show them a driving license etc after the exam because they only accept their own special cards.

Went to the exams office armed with a new card only to be told I can't sign any paperwork because it's not been collected yet, and they can't compare signatures side by side (as any bank etc would for security) it has to be on the same piece of paper, so I'd have to come back tomorrow! Which would be fine if the main campus wasn't towards the centre of oxford and surrounded by 3-4 schools, I have an exam 2-4 tomorrow so it means trudging through the schools/work traffic at about 4.30!

Then get home to find an email saying they've blocked access to my uni account so I can't even check what room I'm supposed to be in for tomorrows exam.

Ridiculously retarded red tape, reminds me of dealing with SLC, which are actually far worse than the DVLA.
