Yeah the Forzas coupled with Corbeau Nova-tailored subframes were roughly 15kg on my bathroom scales.

Just sat and read through the hole thread and I'm really impressed what you've taken on and had a go at! Welding is very addictive when you first start out isn't it?! I've just had my new reactive welding helmet arrive and I'm itching to give it a go (although I shouldn't be with the ole carpal tunnel!) lol
Looking forward to more updates.
Thanks Simps, the whole thing has pretty much been a 'have a go at everything' and so far it's payed off. I agree, welding is great fun, wish I'd learned sooner!
Been treating some of the bay today, rust treating the surface rusted bit, when I came across this. Is there supposed to be a hole here?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/244.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/245.JPG
This one's definitely not supposed to be here, grr thought I'd found all the rot!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/246.JPG
Bit of rust killer to try and stop the surface bits:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/247.JPG
And a bit of filler here to make the rear seat bracket positions neat:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/248.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/249.JPG
Also cancelled my order with Magnum Motorsport for the seat mounts. Rang after 2 weeks of hearing nothing to be told he was still waiting on stock - thanks for letting me know  So I've ordered some OMP univeral mounts:

Looks like there is some superficial bits of rot there mate, as for the mounts, yeah that was nice of them eh!
did you notice Chris Astley does the same style ones you were after?
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/images/ASMSR.jpg
http://www.chrisastleymotorsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=314_315&products_id=37
Then again, see looking at them if i went to a place i use to work at i could get the alloy to make some for free!
Scott
No that fist hole shouldnt be there, its the pannel join.
Ah cool, thanks for that Scott, they look exactly the same as the Magnum ones. Will get some of those instead
So that hole shouldn't be there? I'll chop the firewall out so I can get to it to fix it then :)
Why havent you fitted the quarters yet?
I want to get the seat rails in first, cos when you have the quarter off you can see down the sill so I can prime and paint where I've welded. Also when you're grinding and sanding inside they fill up with crap so might as well get all that done first too.
Figured at least part of the firewall would have to go to patch the rust up properly, and seeing as I fancied chopping something up I just removed the whole firewall.
Drilled off the battery clamp bit, battery will be relocated now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/250.JPG
Ehhh manky under there, it's even rusted through so it'll need chopping out and replacing:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/251.JPG
Drilled off rest of firewall:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/252.JPG
Most of it gone:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/253.JPG
Bit behind turret was trickier but not impossible:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/254.JPG
Gone, more access to the rust hole now:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/255.JPG
Hmm remove this and run single wiper, or leave the std wiper motor?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/256.JPG
Need to work out how to remove this from the top. I think there's 4 spot welds visible from inside but can't see any from the top:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/257.JPG
850g weight saving, better than nothing I guess!

Lob it out and go ZX wiper set up..
Just dont touch a ax motor, utter sh*te! Nice work, lot of metal taken out..
And the rear part of the battrey holder, just grind it off smooth.
Nice work, this is going to be one sorted shell when its all done
Olly's single wiper setup looks okay in the videos. Looks a bit silly with that small piece left, so I could maybe make up a new bracket for the wiper motor?
scott.parker
20-06-09, 07:14 PM
It's a lot of ****ing about with the OEM motor, better of getting a ZX set up, i have the AX one on mine, it works well, but the ZX gets a larger sweep, so i am going to change to this.
Scott
I have the nova motor on the ax set up, and its funking sh*te.
What have you done to use to work well?

PM'd so not to spam the thread
PM me fitting info too I want to be sure it'll work well before I hack off the rest of the firewall! lol
Might as well post it here Scott, might help other people interested in doing the same :)

20-06-09, 07:52 PM
It's all in my WIP thread on page 22 and 23
BUT as said the ZX one works better then the AX.
Scott
awww well proud of ya
get the corsa wiper set up. plug a play then.

Nice work with the spot weld drilling but I would have got the grinder out and chopped it out personally lol
Just grind the other part of the battery flat like benn says. I tried drilling mineand its so piss thin you'll go through and end up having to weld holes up.
Ref wiper motor, run a ZX one. I made up a bracket for mine and it works fine...

It bolts into one of the holes for the old brake assembly. If you're still using the nova brake setup you could make it work with a longer bolt and a nut.
Hope this helps.

Thats swapping the motor over for the nova one btw.
scott.parker
21-06-09, 03:33 PM
Ah...So the ZX has a straight arm same as th AX, so in fact it's only the wiper arm thats going to increase the sweep of the blade!
Best look into a normal nova arm with long blade on then.
Scott

The arm is straight yeah. The arm I used was off a storm single wiper kit for a corsa.
scott.parker
21-06-09, 03:47 PM
I'm not sure what mines off, either an AX, or a rear wiper, not sure, but thinking about it you see you could get more sweep with a bent arm.
Scott
good work mate keep at it!
Thanks Simps and everybody for your help/comments.
Removed the rest of the firewall, wasn't too bad to remove:

Cut out hole by drivers turret:

And, err, another bosh:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/268.JPG
This is when I realised I might as well have just grinded the firewall as suggested above. lol I cut the remaining metal off as it offered no structural use at all and stitched it to the other layer:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/269.JPG
Since I'm going with a single wiper I removed the spare hole:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/270.JPG
Small plate so I can seal it from underneath:

Not a bad weight saving from today:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/274.JPG
I used the grinder to flat off that battery ridge, then decided to lever it off with a screwdriver, and had to weld the holes up anyway. But in my welding frenzy I filled in this hole which is used for the brake setup, doh lol So I'll drill it off and weld another one in from my spare Nova:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/275.JPG
Also attacked this area which was quite manky with rust killer:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/276.JPG

Good work Iain, it's nice to see your just attacking it with no concerns, right way to do it..

Good work once again!
Well chuffed with how my slam panel repairs have come out (see a few pages back where I cut out the rust from either end)

You've properly got the hang of this welding/body work.
When you coming weld my cage in? :p lol
well impressed iain. i surgest you take this week off and come and get more practice :p
Nice work dude. Looking welded.
Thanks chaps. Quite happy I've managed to get a bit done tonight ready for the weekend.
Cleaned out my spare shell to get this bracket off. Had to remove all my crap and the dashboard/pedals etc to get to it:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/279.JPG
Think I'll make a custom dash out of this, but more about that later:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/280.JPG
Neatly smash a screwdriver through the battery tray to remove the bracket:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/281.JPG
Out, ready to fit to the white one:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/282.JPG
Also got some strut top mounts (before anybody says it, yes I know everybody says they're useless, but I reckon they serve a purpose
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/283.JPG
And they'll add less then half a kg to the car:

I fitted the top plates too. Vaux fitted them for a reason and besides, they make the bay look more beefy & purposefull.
is that the only progress :p
That's amazing progress for a Friday night, stop moaning! lol

lol good work chap :)
Rubbish progress today due to weather and a headache. Fitted that new bracket:

iain is that blue shell scrap ?
It will be scrapped when I've finished with it. Probably get rid once the white one is finished.
Carpete looks ok in it tho... Give it to me.
i agree with the strut tops i bought a pair of them when i ordered my plating kit from chris ansley,
they must be there for a reason, and it makes your shell look like a gsi,Sri lol
Carpete looks ok in it tho... Give it to me.
It was cut in several places for lazy removal. Feel free to come and fish it out of my bin though lol:p

cut me out the blower motor hole :p
Found some unmolested seams so stitched them up:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/287.JPG
Cracked out the high build:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/288.JPG
And ran out half way through my bay, grr:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/289.JPG
Reading Lee's 2.0 conversion guide it says to bend the clutch opening towards the passenger side. Is this enough to clear the engine?
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/290.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/291.JPG
Bit more. I snaped 4 cables in a year cause mine wasn't bent enough.
Since when have you been putting an xe in? what have i missed? lol
peester
28-06-09, 10:11 PM
really?? XE?
that'll be mr adam then.. meh.
well done for learning as u go fella. not many people would try to do there welding. ill keep an eye on this
really?? XE?
that'll be mr adam then.. meh.
;) lol lol
Iain, try and bend the clutch cable plate down a bit more, as its a fooker to do when the engines fitted if you find out it isnt angled enough.
Ok will bend it a bit more, thanks.
Sorry Peester/John, I have betrayed you. Decided a little while ago to slap a 2.0 16v in there, figured all this shell prep deserved more than a 96bhp 1.6!
The Simps
28-06-09, 11:59 PM
you could also use a grinder and chop a bit off the clutch guide to change the angle rather than bending it and creasing the bulkhead.
Thats how mine is done /\
Looking spot on there mr limp keep the updates regular, its a good read and good to see youre cracking on with it all yourself:thumb:
Regards to the clutch routing, i was always led to beleive you should use a straight bar and keep bending it till the bar points exactly to the N/SF corner of the car/bottom of wing, if that is of any use to you?
some cracking work Iain, is it going to be ready for Billing then?! ;)
Yeah that helps Spudders, but how do you do the cutting technique? Just chop the end off at an angle?
Billing lol It'll be ages yet.

some very good work going into the nova whats the plans with the redtop then
Standard XE to start with, should be a nice upgrade from the 1.6.

01-07-09, 01:53 PM
What can I say, well done Iain, some cracking work going into this and your weldings looking s**t hot! better than my shoddy attempts!
Good on you mate, you'll be beating me the finish at this rate! lol
Keep at it and will have to catch up and have a nosey at it at some point:cool:
Thanks Ian, yeah the welding is improving all the time now.
Finally got a pair of side mounts. Ordered them from RACE @ Stoke On Trent - a similar design to the Magnum ones but with much more seat adjustment options.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/292.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/293.JPG
Also got some M10 threaded inserts, 25mm long and 20mm wide, perfect for welding in to my metal bar. This will let me mount the rails lower down (no need for nuts underneath) & I'm told is better in the event of an accident.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/294.JPG
Only problem is the grooves on the bottom of the side mounts are designed for M8 bolts, so I'll probably have to open the slot up a bit.
The Simps
03-07-09, 05:25 PM
How much were those mounts mate? Just what I need (eventually!)
£50 each. Only a couple of quid more than from Magnum but in stock, quick delivery and better designed for more adjustment.
Having a few issues fitting them at the moment though. Well, the mounts are fine, but for some reason the angle of the vertical pieces is different coming off the seat. Anybody got any advice?
Fitted like this:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/295.JPG
Flush at the back:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/296.JPG
And wonky at the front. Going to put too much stress on it just tightening this up isn't it!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/297.JPG
The Simps
03-07-09, 06:17 PM
Can you not fix it on the outside if you know what I mean?
Is that £50 each seat?!! fpmsl I'll make my own lol
It's still the wrong angle whether I fit it on the inside or the outside though?
Yeah £50 a set, the Magnum pair on the other page were £35+VAT per seat.
Bent the clutch opening a little more (now points towards front passenger corner of the car) and finished priming my engine bay.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/298.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/299.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/300.JPG
Got the bucket seat mounted on the frames by fitting the upright pieces to the rails and then to the seat. And voila, one seat ready to fit:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/301.JPG
Shedload of adjustment and a really low sitting seat, winner!
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/302.JPG
And loads of room here for harness and eyebolt:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/303.JPG
Room here to move it back on the rails as far as possible:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/304.JPG
Rails trimmed to size:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/305.JPG
And the new frames don't even use this bit I added on, doh lol
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/306.JPG
Frames where seat mounts to mark out holes:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/307.JPG
Now I need 20mm holes through the rails. First I tried the daddy of all drill bits:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/308.JPG
But that was too manly for my pillar drill so I went for a holesaw:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/309.JPG
Holey:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/310.JPG
Thread fits snug, ready to weld in to place:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/311.JPG
One seat done:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/312.JPG
Also holes in the side to puddle weld the threads in to place:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/313.JPG
In the process of filing out these slider holes in the seat rail to accept M10 bolts. They are designed for M8 bolts unfortunately.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/314.JPG
Was reading up on Corsa EPAS the other night and thought it sounded like a good idea, so picked this up from the scrapyard today.
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/315.JPG
Even if I decide not fit the lot, I'll at least use the double joint to straighten the steering column:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/316.JPG
good idea with mounting threaded bars into your seat rails :thumb:
might have to steal that idea
got your seat brackets sorted also :thumb:
Not my idea, was recommended this way of doing it by Tom Reid off here :thumb: It's safer as there's less stress on the bolt and the added bonus of being able to mount the rails lower down.
very true still think im going to have to try it :thumb:
Keep up the good work,
Also if you fit ePas dont you need the wiring and ecu Etc?
ecu/motor is all one on the corsa columns
arh so its just get a perm/ignition/earth feeds to it
I have two wiring looms coming off the column, there wasn't an ECU connected to it at the scrapyard. The motor has a thick red/black and there's a group of 5 or so coloured wires, probably for the ECU. I assume this is what the adjuster control boxes use which I'll probably end up getting, with an adjustment knob on the dash.
Adjuster knob as in adjust how stiff/light the steering is i assume? Think i may look into doing it just depends on how much hassle it is moving the fuesbox, are you going to be running part of a standard dash or completly custom?
The ecu is in the motor as one unit so there wont be anything else you need. Ive changed quite a few on corsas, common problem with them is the steering goes light one way/heavy the other
those seat rails are the bollocks iain
Oh, didn't know there was a common fault with them, hopefully this one works okay then lol
There's a group of wires coming off the column, I guess that's for speed sensor etc to feed the ECU?
TBH I haven't looked in to wiring it up, or even thought about fitting it behind a dashboard! I guess it'll get in the way of the fusebox though yeah.
those seat rails are the bollocks iain
Cheers Burgo, I'm well chuffed with them.
/\ knocking anymore up and selling? lol
Definitely not after what I've just discovered! Just done a trial fit of the rails on the seat mounts, the rear's spot on but somehow the front is about a cm off, so will have to make a new one
measure twice cut/drill once :thumb:
Thats what ive always been told
unlucky about them being wrong but more practice means you could make more lol
Good work Iain. Going be quite a motor when its all done!!!
As for the insert, how are you planning on welding that into the rail whilst keeping it flat so the mount isnt sitting on a bead of weld if you get me.....
Looking good boyfriend. Would love EPAS myself.
Get it finished!
Adam, I plan to weld it on the bottom (and leave it untouched probably), puddle weld it through the side, weld it on the top and grind it flat on top. Should be fine like that I think.

Decided I want to relocate the washer bottle, gave it a weigh almost full of water and it's probably worth the effort to move:

you can put the washer bottle where ever you want.
Good to see some updates matey :thumb:
the clutch cable will sit like that after its bent
Yeah I guess it can go anywhere, figured this would be the best place as it's low down and near where it needs to be - couldn't find anywhere else in the bay for it!

Were did you get the theaded inserts for the seat bars?
McGill motorsport, they've got a website and sell a lot of stuff on eBay.
What you mean the dash panel?

i presume he means the inner skin of the the dash - its not needed :)
Ah I did look at how that would be removed at the time actually, but figured it'd do some good as it kind of makes a box section across the car?

Ah I did look at how that would be removed at the time actually, but figured it'd do some good as it kind of makes a box section across the car?
I say keep it, as for the washer bottle, i think where you have it's fine mate, but you might want to look into a screw on lid or something, as any passenger might flip it open when getting in/out and you would be spilling it everywhere once your driving with it that low?
Scott
does your roll cage have a dash bar??
if yes then ditch it if no then keep it.
does look better with it removed tho
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/sclurgess/light%20blue/S7302328.jpg
No dash bar I'm afraid, will keep it.
Today's progress.
Mocked up drivers seat rails:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/338.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/339.JPG
Drilled out and inserts slotted in:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/340.JPG
Welded up, grinded flat, and tacked in to place
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/341.JPG
Something I learnt when doing the passenger side, it's best off welding the bar to the spreader plate underneath first as you can't get to it when it's welded in:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/342.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/343.JPG
And spreaders welded to the car:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/344.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/345.JPG
While admiring how well my cage fits the car, I thought I'd tag it to the A pillars. It's already tagged above the windscreen and above both doors in the same way:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/346.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/347.JPG
And since the dash strengthening isn't coming out, I made sure it wasn't going anywhere:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/348.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/349.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/350.JPG
Seats in:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/352.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/353.JPG
Turns out the driver's side has 2cm or so less space than the passengers side, so the seat only just fitted. Means they look wonky when you look at them straight on too (drivers is almost touching the window and the passengers is nowhere near lol) but oh well.
Seats look well in there :)
They take up the entire interior lol At least I got them in after the worry they wouldn't fit.

Certainly is! Definately got the hang of it now mate :thumb:
Seats look the tits. Is that a safety devices cage?
Your welding turns me on LOL
Not really but its damn good work dude:thumb:
any chance of some welding lessons please
It's the 3mm plate, really easy to get a good weld on! lol Much easier to weld the 3mm stuff with 0.8mm wire too - I struggled loads with it burning back and sticking to the tip when using 0.6mm wire. Today I swapped to 0.8mm welding wire and used anti-spatter 'Tip-dip' and had no problems at all so could get a nice run.
Yeah Safety Devices 6pt, welded in.
Carried on with the rear quarters today.
Trimmed the quarter panel back so if I make a right mess of it I can get a new quarter and start again lol
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/354.JPG
Pillars and sill trimmed to size:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/355.JPG
Rough fit to check panel gaps:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/356.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/357.JPG
One thing I've noticed is when I line the B and C pillar grooves up nicely there'll be a step on the C pillar, so I guess I'll have to overcome that with some bodyfiller. Otherwise it's a good fit :(
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/358.JPG
some really good progress man. good to see you getting stuck in and doing welding and bodywork yourself
Rubbish update but the weather hasn't been too kind.
Built the back end up to check nothing is going to be majorly out of place, all seems okay:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/359.JPG
Drilled 5mm holes around the edges of the panel to puddle weld it in to place similar to standard:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/360.JPG
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/361.JPG
Then the weather ruined my fun so I went in the garage and rebuilt my RJ gear linkage. Wanted to move the bottom RJ placement to avoid the problems of it loosening off I've had in the past, so painted it up nice etc while I was there:

Panel work looks good.
Thought I'd delock my doors "properly" with a metal plate, instead of the chemical metal I'd used before. So welded in two circles:

This bit lined up quite badly as pictured:

But cutting slots in it like this meant it could be bent in to shape:

Puddle welded to window and door shut:

Pillars completed:

The slam panel however you could remove.... ;) :p lol lol
Top work Iain, really is looking solid and spot on now.
lol at crossmember, But cut the centre post bit out and make the upper bit out of a straight L shape bit (IF you get me), could save another couple of grams lol
I have to agree im amazed at this thread too lol
Crossmember lol Edited so your posts make no sense now. It had been a long day of sanding filler so my brain was dead.
Yeah alloy crossmember could save weight, will have to do it!
Leave the slam alone, no need to remove it.
Fantastic work on ther welding and fitting the quarter. Really well done.
Id make it removeable, it makes things so much easier (engine work wise) with the slam panel out the way.

Too true.
Had a bit of a finishing off day today.
Seam sealered rear arch:

Rolled my rear arch with plenty of seam sealer to fill the gap, so checked for wheel clearance, just enough in places but I'm sure it's no tighter than before:

C pillar is taking shape, using a bit more filler than I wanted to but it's my first attempt:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/393.JPG
Wasn't happy that the arches were sitting there in primer (etch followed by Hammerite anti-rust primer) so gave them a slathering of Hammerite Smooth White. Hopefully a topcoat of stonechip will be enough to protect them:

On another note man ur car looks clean!
Leave the arches white dude they'll good better. Great work on this. Very impressed.
I have some white stonechip to go on - Hammerite won't stop stonechips by itself!? It's a slightly yellower shade of white though so it'll probs need more Hammerite over the top.
Looking well. Rear arch looks quite tight, should be ok though, is that how low you usually run it???

Hard one, Stonechip with dry and can chip off, Hammerright does dry but it a bit more harder but doesnt chip as bad.
This stonechip says it dries but stays flexible, so maybe a covering of that over the Hammerite will be fine, as if the stonechip chips off there'll be the 2 coats of Hammerite to protect it still. Can top up the stonechip in a year or two anyway!
Adam, TBH I can't remmeber how low I run it, the picture looks tighter than it actually is, it's only tight at the back but I can almost get my finger between the wheel and the arch.
Thanks skidz, it's getting there! Defo a much more solid shell than when I started it.
Should be sound then. Mine bottoms out that low so ive got to get it back up before Combe (change of springs)
I think I used to run mine a bit higher than that, but the rears would go fairly low.
Made a start on the new pedals, well, as much as you can without the actual brake setup.

I'd just lengthen what you have, if you can, if you can't, I have a few universal joints and Corsa columns.
^^ lol leave him alone ^^ lol,
No.
It is damned heavy compared to the standard column, I'll give you that. I'd quite like to lengthen the bottom joint part, but retain it's ability to collapse, but at the moment it's looking like a Nova column would be an easier option.
Leave my girly arms out of it Benn. lol

I thought you liked that? lol Is it the 'quick' corsa rack that people use, 2.7 turns lock to lock iirc? I'd happily use one of those, just unbolt the motor etc first lol

Thanks J4MES.
MK999, I was going for proper quickrack internals (2.5 lock to lock), so figured power steering would be worthwhile. Having second thoughts now cos it's not a straight fit, could maybe fit it later on if I find it's too heavy.

That is just why you need anti freeze!
Tappets wise, you want them to drain out, knock the moveable center out so you can get clean oil in there( take it apart then put in clean oil and push your finger in the hole, this pushes clean oil thru and makes sure theres no crap in there) Then you'll have nice quiet good tappets.

don't beat yourself up about it not lining up Iaan, at the end of the day, its a track orientated build, so all that matters, is that it gets abused around a circuit!
still amazed at your 'get up and go' :)
Can you not just grind that weld off and "adjust" it slightly?
Cheers Olly, I guess I should be more worried about the performance but still wouldn't mind it looking nice!. Meh, can't do anything about it now!
Adam nah, there's no adjustment when the C pillar and sill are welded in. Luckily the new panel is set back slightly and the groove slightly shallower so may be able 'reconstruct' it with 3 tonnes of filler. lol

Iain it's one of them thing, but least you wont do it again!
Don't fancy coming down to do the arch lips on my MK1? lol if not im going to give it a go!...
Little tip for next time, using self tappers screw the pannel on in a few places, this way it will stay lined up. Then you can tack it in place, then remove the screws and tack thru the screw hole.
Edited, seen the clamps.
Good work tho on the rest.
Scott do it yourself! I'll of had enough of fixing rust by the time this is on the road, can't wait to get it painted and built up ready for driving now!
Yeah Benn I had about 8 molegrips and clamps on it but I guess I didn't spot the difference until it was all one colour when I primered it.

Yeeea check this out now! Well done Iaiaiaiiiiin! lol
In all seriousness it looking great, don't worry about that quarter, my drivers side one was out of line just like that too, look on the plus side as least you don't need a new water pump for the engine, looks like brand new

I was only joking dude, will be doing it my self (even if i make mistakes) as i cant afford to pay some one to do it.
