It looks perfect.

But is it just me or the camera, because the bonnet looks a slightly different shade ?

Did you use the same paint ?

Just because the bonnet is up a wee bit the light makes it look different :)

All your seeing their Lewi is Face and side tone....... Basically the way the workshop (sodium) lighting is hitting the panels at different angles. I assure you all panels are bang on and all paint mixed was from the same tin applied exactly the same way. If there was a problem Id have sorted it by now!

Yeah i thought so.

Just i looked at all the photos and the bonnet does look a bit different in the pictures.

Ill take your word for it though lol

One of my favourite things about this car is the door cards, i like how theyre not aftermarket ones like carbon fibre ones on a car thats had so much work done, do you plan on keeping those or changing them for some other GM items ?

Anyway
Keep up the flawless work man.

Is the fr bumper a tight fit around the intercooler? It looks 'awkward' somehow.
I assume you have an SR badge f't grille?

Benn

Looks perfect dude, everything looks like it lines up 100& spot on.

Utter legend.

Nick J
07-04-10, 10:03 PM
Cheers Keith,Si,Benn and anyone else Ive missed!

Craig... You've puzzled me there! Bumper lines up and fits 100% ! Ive studied the pics and cant understand what your seeing? And yes I do have an sr grille badge for it that'll be added soon enough.

Lewi... The gm cards that are fitted will stay as I dont want to go on an aftermarket spree with this project. Just simple, subtle but effective in my eyes.

Very impressed Nick :thumb:

Your boss must worry about the hours you put into that car surely though? What do they think of it?

Think i would prefer to see the full interior back in now though, a car built to this standard looks a bit unfinished with no back seats and those modern cobra's imo.

A full interior with that sensible cage would look great

I think it'd be good with a burberry sport interior.

I think what he means about the bumper, is if you look at it it looks like its really tight and sort of stretched on because of the intercooler being infront of it, i cant work out why it looks like this either, it might just be the colour playing a trick.

vaughanmc

Sport interior is 'Daytona Check' the very 1st of the later Mk1 SR's had grey Burberry interior the same as a Mk2 Astra SRi etc

Thanks Joe, My boss is pretty cool with it to be honest.... I like to think of it as It works both ways etc as theres many a time I will stay after hours to finish an urgent job for him and not just myself etc. The lads from work just keep taking the mick really as they all drive posh bmw's. I see what your saying regarding the interior but Im happy with it and dont want to spend anymore cash at the moment so it'll stay as it is for now.

Spudly.... cheers and Your welcome to drop by anytime fella!

On to one of the last bodyshop updates really..... Over the last few days I cleaned and vac'd the inside of the car followed by polishing and sealing the paintwork in the back. The passenger seat and front half of cage then went in too........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip473.jpg?t=1270893625

Then I started on the glass inside and out as it was a mess.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip469.jpg?t=1270893724

With the glass and interior trim all cleaned and in place I gave the battery tray a clean/polish up and filled it with dinitrol.... Compliments to shaun for how neatly this pipework has been thoughtout and re routed.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip357-2.jpg?t=1270894183

Once the waxoil was dry the battery went back in and I left it to charge.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip470.jpg?t=1270894325

Last night I stayed back a few hours to polish and then apply a sealant to the fresh paintwork. Id like to clay bar it all then use a quality wax to leave it uber smooth but with the paintwork still breathing and a little soft Im going to leave it a month or so before I do that as the clay may mark it and I dont want to take that chance. Ive dropped off the original 9mm pinstripe with my vinyl guys to colour match and their going to cut me a roll so I can add it to the bumpers later. Plus they are making me up a small custom vinyl too... but more on that later! here's how it was looking last night after a good clean/polish and tyres dressed........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip476.jpg?t=1270894406

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip480.jpg?t=1270894794

Im still unsure what to do with the front calipers though???? Stay red to go with pinstripes/mouldings or go grey for subtlety? Opinions please..... Southie You may get a pm here!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip477.jpg?t=1270894920

This morning via trailor it made the return journey home. It has been the first time Ive seen the paintwork outside in the natural daylight. Generally when a job looks good in the workshop you know it will look good outside etc. And it didnt fail to either. Im over the moon with it........

Its now almost finished! Almost all my ideas I had before/after I bought it Ive put into practice. My autospark pal is due round later so I can speak to him regarding a new alarm/immob for it. But apart from routine maintenance/cleaning I just want to enjoy it after all the hours myself and others have put in. Id like to take this opportunity to thank the following too.....

My missus Jess, All the guys from work especially Huddo and my boss, Paul for paintless dent work, John scrafton for vinyl applications.... Edd rodgers,Mark Ridley,Keith Robinson and Sloth for supplying me with critical brand new original parts that have really made the finished article great and without them the car wouldnt be half as good in my opinion. Shaun Larnder for obvious reasons! Ian for use of his van for parts shipping. And lastly to all of you guys on png/jov for help and inspiration. It seems rather random my last project has just been featured in tv and the new one is almost finished and ready to go!!

As always Thanks for reading. :)

Looks amazing Nick. I'm sure its not finished in the grand scheme of things, they never are.

Are the bucket seats not the ones Shaun had in it? I prefer these. Regarding the calipers, switch to Black or SIlver/Grey IMO. Subtle.

Oh & park it on some grass & take some pics too! ;)

Not sure if they're the ones that Shaun had in it Craig, but they're definitely the same as the ones out of nicks old car, cobra imola 2's :) Fantastic seats, same as I've got :d Ever thought about repainting the backs of them in the colour scheme grey Nick?

The calipers look better as they are in red then match with the bump strips and dont look out of place, if they were grey I think the car would have too much grey IMO

cheers Craig.... The majority of how I want it to be is there just odds and ends as you say will continue to change Id imagine. These were the second set of buckets shaun put in... The first being the kevlar vbh seats but apparantly they didnt fit too well once the cage door bars went in so they were changed for the imola 2's. And yeah Im pretty much sure calipers will go grey as the new drums already have. Subtle is best imo as you say. Grass pics will be on route once the cars taxed which I will be doing soon!

Mk.... cheers! I did have that idea regarding the seats but opted not to do it as they are light metallic grey on the back and it goes with the light grey period trim etc.

Novakid93... cheers and you may have a point??? we'll see ;)

cheers! Its hard to answer that as I feel they are both very different cars...... Red one was a real eyeful and very enjoyable as a show piece however the yellow one is much more subtley styled but a hoot to drive... Who needs a stereo when you have sccr!

Cheers Si! My opinion is that allesios are too curvey in their design for the boxey/square lines of a mk1. The mk2 with its rounder/smoother bumpers and softer looking front end carry them off perfectly. No better wheel for a mk2 Id say. where as mo's are flat/sqaure lined and suit the mk1 much better. Just my opinion/ideas really. Works for me though! :)

Wudgey... As above!

C2 VXL.... cheers! I see your project coming along nicely now too. ;)

Cheers Shaun, Im pretty sure you'll love it when you see it in the flesh again It has been a lot of work in a short space of time but the graft has paid off. Ive more bits to do yet but the bulk of the work is out of the way now thankfully.

Jeff, cheers fella! I had a little fun with it last year but it wasnt long after I bought it the tax expired and then it came to bits! My new tax disc however should be on the matt upon getting home from work tommorow so watch this space! :)

Hey guys, A little update then....... I havent really done much with it lately as I just havent had the time due to work being so busy at the moment but I have added a few small touches. The old wheel bolts were all corroded and as they are exposed given the mo's design I knew a trip to parts at work was in order. The bmw wheel bolts are the same size and taper as the vaux ones but come anodised in matt black and as the wheels are grey they wont stand out as much as the silver ones either...........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip492.jpg?t=1272033327

How old bolts looked..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip493.jpg?t=1272033395

And new ones in place........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip499.jpg?t=1272033562

Much better Im sure you'll agree! My local vinyl place also rang to say my pinstripes were ready to collect so I dropped in to collect them.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip500.jpg?t=1272033595

And checked the colour to a strip of the original one before fitting.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip502.jpg?t=1272033722

Its a very close match and cut to the correct size being 9mm. Its the second batch Ive had to buy as the first set supplied by another company was a mile out colour wise which is why Ive had to wait until now. Later on I degreased the bumpers and cracked on with fitting.......

In position............

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip503.jpg?t=1272033889

And edges trimmed.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip504.jpg?t=1272033978

Front bumper finished.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip505.jpg?t=1272033999

And then on to the rear............

In position..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip506.jpg?t=1272034067

Then trimmed and finished..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip508.jpg?t=1272034122

I noticed the distributor was in need of cleaning up to so that was degreased and polished up...... still needs a little more but it will do for now. Due to my tax disc arriving I just want to be able drive it!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip507.jpg?t=1272034307

Ive also accumulated a few more parts being some mint headlights/indicators that only had 16k on them! they just need a clean up then I can get them on.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip496.jpg?t=1272034450

And lastly for today Ive bought some sill protectors as everyone drags there feet from time to time when climbing in and I didnt want the sills to get marked etc. The plan is to paint them grey with a matt finish so any scratches wont show etc........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip501.jpg?t=1272034612

Thats it for now more soon! :)

Some nice wee touches there mate - I think I'll get some bumper stripes made up the same as the early Mk1 Nova SR's for my T40 project :)

MK999
23-04-10, 04:50 PM
That looks quality, loving the wheel bolts, I did spot them a while back and wondered why there was something slightly corroded that had survived your touch lol Just go careful with those lockers, as I'm sure you know working for BMW they tend to enjoy stripping the splines on the locknut key if they're overtightened! Rugby tackle on the tyre fitter with the windy gun required lol

L14MNP
23-04-10, 04:58 PM
Very nice Nick. I'd lose the lock nuts personally. Not only do they spoil the look a bit, but it's not like you're going to be leaving the car in undersiable places is it lol!

Also not to sound harsh, but I doubt if any scum did take an interest to it then they would just be after your wheels! I'm sure you know what I mean mate.

AlexW
23-04-10, 05:11 PM
Bumper strips really finish it.

New bolts are good, expensive from BMW? Want some myself.

Have you ever thought about covers for the front CV nuts like corsas have?

hybridturbo
23-04-10, 05:52 PM
Great Nick i would also loose the lockers

Nick J
23-04-10, 06:50 PM
Vaughan...... cheers fella

Mk999....... Thanks and I have the code for said lock nut key if I should ever require another not that I will be overtightening however! ;)

L14mnp... To be honest I dont mind the lockers as their a damn sight better looking than vaux ones! Their heads are a fair bits smaller making it look a lot neater. I darent not use them now I have them! I think that would just be asking for trouble however I do know what your saying. :)

Aw06..... I Didnt think about corsa covers actually? I have the compomotive centres however they dont fit as these must have been rally issue wheels so they dont have the extra recess for the caps etc. I spoke to comp a while ago about it but the wheels would have to be machined and I havent long since painted them so It'll have to wait until next year! The standard bolts are approx £2.50 each and lockers come as a set at approx £40 I think to the public etc. Good job I get big discounts!

Hybridturbo.... As above........ I have them so I think It may be a bit daft not to use them really. Tempting fait and all that!

Nick mate this car is now looking amazing, wish i could of had you do my mk1 to be fair, as Ive been back and forth so many times now to the sprayers, and Ive got to get one of the rear quarters done again as it's picked up some grinding spray at some point when it's been down at his shop, and it only just came to my attention when i washed it last week ready for some re-mopping to be done, im quite gutted, well infarct pissed off..

Just been back through this whole thread and it makes me soooo hornay lol!!!
Your red nova has allways been high up in my top 10 novas!
Amazing car that was and i hope the owner is looking after it.

As for the mustard nova i love it!
But... i'm worried i won't like it as much as the red 1 because that was just sooo immense!

Keep up the good work fella!

EDIT - I love the black corsa i've been in it once or twice with pip and i wouldn't mind it myself if it had a bigger engine.
That's hard for me to say aswell because i hate corsas.!

if nick did start his own business he wouldnt make any money at all working on old nova's the amount of time nick has put into his yellow nova if you were a paying customer and had the same job done and paying p/h as most would it would be thousands!

small dents and repairs are where the money is, not repairing and restoring old novas he would need to make a living and how many people would pay a few k to have a nova painted........ not many

its easy to spend time on your own car more often than not you dont loose out as you work in works time or after work but if you were doing jobs to make a living you would need to charge and the costs involved as nick said he would be better off working on newer stuff!

How old bolts looked..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip493.jpg?t=1272033395

And new ones in place........

Great minds think alike:thumb:
Working for BMW has its perks, sometimes! We have a big Roses tin with hundreds of new bolts in it, dont know where they came from unless there are loads of new BM's driving round with bolts missing lol
Didnt bother with the lockers as I wont be leaving the car anywhere for them to get pinched plus I didnt want to pay for em lol
Even found the new valves in a draw full of crap at work

Close up of the wheels, really like them even though they are silver on a Sport. I think they go well. Fitted all new bolts we had kicking around at work, look better than the scruffy originals.

Hey guys,

As some of you know my tax disc arrived last week.... So whilst the weather was good saturday I thought I'd go out for a quick drive to check all was ok after having it in so many bits! It was great to drive it again however a few miles up the road I noticed the temp guage hadnt moved so I pulled over and saw the connector had come off the nipple from which it reads the temp. So a little bit of fiddliness saw that clipped back on and apart from that all was well so Im pleased at that. Whilst pulled over I got a few photos.......

Not sure if it's something you've thought about Nick but something that bugs me on the vinyl'd Novas is the fact that theres a body coloured line around there doors where you can see the door shuts, if/when I redo my TD (the vinyl is hiding rot it seems) I plan on painting the door shuts as well to hide this.

vaughanmc

I noticed that as well but it is a minor flaw on such a 'perfect' car

F*cking love it Nick! Stunning car fella

Nick J
26-04-10, 08:35 PM
The above is not strictly a flaw.... I followed the original vinyl along the sill but I did change it a little from when it starts to curve and go upwards as thats were it was wider slightly. I did that so it was all the same width as I thought it would be neater and It was how I wanted it. If you look at the poster from the tv feature (when it was original vinyl) you can see the yellow showing through on the sill there too. Its how they are but I guess it shows as its such a contrast to the grey where as others colours are not as bad etc.

Nick.

MK999
26-04-10, 08:38 PM
I was stating it as a possible option to improve, rather than a flaw, as Nick says it's how the original vinyl is :thumb:

No it's by no means a flaw Nick just something that all the sr's had, its slightly annoying but that's how they are standard so no need to paint the door shuts IMO. Car looks awesome on the road Nick. A car allways look's better when on the move, you'll have to get someone to drive it up the road so you can see it being driven.

I didn't mean a flaw in your work or anything mate as your work is mega as I've said before

Hi guys,

Apologies as its been a while! Unfortunatly work has been manic recently so I havent had a great deal of time for the nova but I have done a few bits so here we go......

The sill trims I bought previously I thought would be better grey to one go with the theme and also with being matt lacqeured they wont show the scratches as much etc. They were lined up and painted.........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip513.jpg?t=1275126050
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip512-1.jpg?t=1275126072

Then fitted........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip522.jpg?t=1275126132

I noticed the paint wasnt the best on the engine covers too so I sourced some more curtisy of phil lofthouse cheers! These were stripped and repainted body colour........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip520-1.jpg?t=1275126208

A couple more new additions were a new tax disc holder and new stainless washers/nuts for the strut tops......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip523.jpg?t=1275126400
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip527.jpg?t=1275126423

Then I went on a little grey painting mission..... Bonnet spring/cable clip were both treated as well as the extinguisher handle too.........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip524.jpg?t=1275126537
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip525.jpg?t=1275126561

Following on from the previous age.........I also painted the extinguisher cradle too. then carefully added some clear vinyl round the cage to prevent the tie wraps from marking the cage paint etc. .........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip530.jpg?t=1275126717

Then trial fitted the extinguisher..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip533.jpg?t=1275126850

Will foys silver nova I saw at billing last year had it mounted in this position which is where the idea came from. Looks cracking I think!

Still thinking about front caliper colour I asked the legendary Southie to do me a photoshop to save me hours of work........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip477GREYCALIPER-1.jpg?t=1275127054

After seeing this I think Im going to stay with the red but do the lettering grey etc. cheers to southie again! On another note those who remember one of the first things I did to this car was to paint the horn push....... It did look pretty bland but I had an idea which I have now put into practice. The guy who sorted my vinyl knocked me up some stickers in dark grey in the same style lettering as the original vauxhall turbo tophat cover and steering wheel centres on the cav/calibra turbos which is where my idea came from etc. The horn push was rubbed down and sticker applied........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip526.jpg?t=1275127403

Then I took it to work and cleared over the lot and later fitted it. The momo course lettering on the wheel has been touched in black as I felt it was too much with too many colours on the wheel. I am however pleased with the result........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip547.jpg?t=1275127509

Front and rear lights/indicators have also had a good machine up bringing them back to life.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip535.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip536.jpg?t=1275129235

Lastly I also had Southie attempt me another photoshop for one of my crazy ideas! As per the sr's two tone scheme I thought maybe I could do the rocker cover two tone? Unfortunatly it didnt look as good as we hoped. It just shows not all my ideas work but you've got to try! crazy rocker cover photoshop below!.........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip357ROCKERTOP-2.jpg?t=1275127867

Some more work may be done in the future regarding the above but for this year the freshly painted yellow covers will be used etc.

Thanks for reading, comments welcome as always!

Awesome build so far mate, and im sure it will only get better!

Not a problem bud, after seeing the vinyl you fitted to stop the tiewraps scuffing your cage then i thought id better suggest that as i cant see any in those pics and a nice curve of it across where the cable sits would prevent having to whip it off and repaint in a few months which you know you would have to do as a scuffed rocker cover just wouldnt do would it lol

Hey Guys,

A little update on what Ive been up to then as many were asking me yesterday at pvs! Its mainly just been finishing touches here and there were necessary. The majority of the work has been finished for some time however Im slowly putting all the loose ends together etc. Mark recently sorted me out with having some parts zinc plated some of which I used and some I thought were a little too much so didnt......

Wiper motor fittings on...........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip574.jpg?t=1276544059

Header and coil fixings.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip571.jpg?t=1276544269
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip569.jpg?t=1276544290

I also had headlight/grill and wing bolts plated but as said I thought they looked a bit too much so I made a trip to parts at work. Anodised black fixings have been used on the grill and headlights were necessary for a neater more oem look.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip568.jpg?t=1276544404
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip567.jpg?t=1276544429

The wing bolts have been neatly touched up instead of being replaced with zinc jobbies......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip566.jpg?t=1276544485

Nice neat yet subtle I feel. Another thing that I wasnt a fan of was the spare wheel well being an uber shiny mustard yellow underneath a grey bumper. If you look at the tv feature you'll see what I mean! The other weekend at work the car spent a few days on the lift at which time I cleaned and degreased the whole underside. brake/fuel lines were checked over/cleaned and the underside of the engine also got a wipe down were needed. I was surprised how exceptionally clean the car is under there with no issues what so ever! Anyhow I had a think regarding the wheel well and decided to dust a light coat of matt grey on it to tone things down etc. Heres how it looks now........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip565.jpg?t=1276544930

The whole of the underside was sprayed with clear waxoil including all cavitys inside the rear legs/behind sills etc. I chose clear as it shows the cleanliness of the underside and looks much neater than black shutz everywhere which in my opinion looks absolutely awful. When I have some free time next year I think the whole of the floorpan will end up matt grey too. The car now looks like this from the rear....... note uber clean exhaust too!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip555.jpg?t=1276545149

Once off the lift I got a couple of random but nice shots of the car......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip554.jpg?t=1276545276

Finally decided that the calipers are staying red too!

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip557.jpg?t=1276545353

My equal length driveshaft has arrived also. Looks very well made so big thanks to David dixon for that. I doubt it will be on before billing but its something that can be sorted once the car comes back off the road at the end of the year etc. ....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip564.jpg?t=1276545505

And lastly a few pics of our new daily! The missus streetka as much as she loved it has given us nothing but grief for a good few months now so the decision was made to move it on. Ideally I saw a bmw being a wise move as a replacement due to parts/servicing being cheap when it all comes at staff rate etc. The missus has always liked mini's however I would have liked something with a little bit of poke so we went to look at a few cooper S's and ended up with this one.......

A 2002 cooper s in indi blue pearl with contrasting white roof/mirrors. I traced its history from new using our system at work to see everything its had servicing and warranty wise across the years. The schnitzer wheels have been on from new however will be replaced shortly with standard cooper s wheels Ive just won off ebay yesterday eves. Its an uber straight original car but does have a few little marks here and there but Im sure over this winter with the nova being practically finished it will give me something to tinker with! Thats all for now. cheers for reading!

Looks very very mint Nick,

think I would like it even more if it had the original Rainbow SR interior in it, not really a big fan of stripped out/buckets theme. After making it look so original on the exterior, the interior kinda looks out of place IMO.

Did you ever consider a standard interior ?

I would never be able to finish a car to this standard so it's not a critisism btw.

Edd.

Hi Edd and thanks! An interior was something I was looking for after having the partially stripped interior with the red one however as this one already had the front buckets and partially stripped rear I just decided to go with it as I felt it quite suited it. In a way it adds to the cars sleeper ish look and will make people look twice at the car when they see its not just a top sr example by whats under the bonnet and inside the car etc. One thing I am sure of is the next nova I own with have a full interior as I want to stick to my guns next time round. On another note once finished Im sure your sport will be an exceptional example.

Cheers Craig! :)

Just on that subject, for me if I am going to spend any amount of time behind the wheel, I can't see the point in no stereo, heating, stripped out etc if it makes living with the car a chore.

I totally appreciate how the cage/buckets steers the theme of a car & how pansy a full interior will always look in comparison to harnesses & steel diagonals seen through polycarb sliders. :thumb:

Yeah the look is something Ive always been a fan of however I still like to have the majority of comforts. Id never go as far as plastic windows, no heating or stripping the car completely as for what I use it for there's no need. If it was a balls out track car then I could see a point etc. A stereo may make it back in though at some point.... If the gauges and surround didnt suit their position so well Id imagine I would have done that already!

Hey guys,

As said at the weekend we've been busy again with the nova... I dropped the car off saturday morning and a few hours later once it had cooled down the coolant was drained and stat housing, hard boost pipe and lower water bar were removed. Later on that afternoon they were prepared and painted using the same semi matt grey Ive used everywhere else on the car. Monday morning saw them dropped off to be refitted at which point my previously painted bailey header tank was also fitted along with fresh coolant added. More items I painted a while ago were the gsi/gte spec servo and mustard engine covers along with a new rocker gasket have also made their way on. No shiny pipework now leaving the bay looking more subtle.......

Painted pipework and water tank......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip584.jpg?t=1277842415

Freshly painted engine covers and stat housing with new button head stainless fittings.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip581.jpg?t=1277842818

And the bay overall........... You can just see the larger new servo looking much better for being grey.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip580.jpg?t=1277842678

The new drums I painted a while back have also been fitted along with new bearings and cylinders.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip587.jpg?t=1277842752
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip588.jpg?t=1277842775

Last time I had the car on the ramp doing the underside I noticed the exhaust rubbers were a bit perished which was possibly causing the exhaust to sit out of postion so I bought the flo flex poly kit. Now they are fitted the exhaust sits almost centrally perfect.............

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip586.jpg?t=1277842866

Lastly nova wise the sump has leaked since I bought the car. A call to autovaux and I bought the 8v baffle kit. That has since been fitted along with fresh oil/filter and the temp sender loom plug was replaced too due to a damaged retainer. Hopefully my garage floor will now see less oil! With a bit of luck I can be squeezed in for an mot saturday and then were all ready to head to the vboa bash. As long as It doesnt break anything else before hand I will see you all there :)

But before I go heres a little update on the recently acquired mini. as said previously I wasnt a fan of the schnitzer wheels so the hunt was on to find some genuine cooper s standard wheels. I sourced some locally for a bargain only downside being they were silver. But a refurb later and we now have these waiting to go on......

They should certainly look much better and suit it as they'll go with the roof/mirrors etc. :)

Thats it for now, thanks for reading and hope to speak to some of you soon!

BMW have their uses dont they ;). A 3 series even donates its fan belt to the Sport!
Have you got one of those BMW Pansan LED rechargeable torches yet? All the techs here have them so I bought one. Snap-on quality but half the price and they last forever on a charge!

To the Nova, looking good. I was worried all the grey would be too much but looking at it all complete now I like it, contrasts with the yellow very well.

Loving the bay however. I'd never have figured it was missing the extra touches & colour coding etc. Subtle is the way forward though. That matt grey looks as good as chrome if not more.

so one that previously been done and stored (like mine) are as rare as a clean fingered michael jackson glove....

The newly painted bits aren't stealing the attention from the engine cover now, very nice:thumb:

Thanks fella..... I wouldnt say it was perfect but it has a high standard throughout. Now its almost finished it will be well driven throughout the better months when and were possible. :)

Matt.... cheers Im very happy with how they look, I did realise Ive painted them the wrong colour though! They were meant to be a smilar complimenting colour however I must have done them the same as the wheels as they look identical! lol

Southie.... cheers

Jeff..... cheers also and hope to see you at billing for a chat.

Hey guys,

Small update then, Checking the novas docs the other day I noticed the mot was due on the 24th of this month. I thought it best to get it booked in early then If there was any problems (which I couldnt find any) but you know what some testers are like! I could get it sorted before then etc. Anyhow I was pleased to hear it did indeed pass with no issues. Tester did comment that one of the exhaust clamps could do with turning round slightly as it was very close going up onto the four poster but at least it went on unlike the red one that was a chore to get up there! So at least thats one thing I dont have to worry about until next year. On route home I dropped in to see a mate who's made me up some black vinyl protectors to suit my cage door bars. Once home I got the door bars back in and added the protectors to the door bars and used some small off cuts to add to the lower sections of the front half of the cage were your feet will sit. (You can just make these out on the pass side in the first shot) Hopefully this will keep the paintwork from being battered by feet etc......

They look really well I think plus you can hardly see they are their which is a bonus!

On the downside I have noticed a very slight coolant leak on the garage floor. Pretty sure Ive never noticed it before so must look into that before setting off on friday..... As many of the pipes were off last week hopefully it will just be something that needs nipping up/threadlocking etc. Lastly I retrieved my tent from the loft got it up and gave it a wipedown ready for billing. Here's to a top weekend! See you there :)

Hey guys,

Small update then....... After getting the car back recently from having the sump/rocker gasket done I was a little miffed to find a small patch of something on the garage floor. This turned out to be coolant which was leaking from the lower stat housing. A quick call to autovaux saw the gasket on the stat and lower stat housing were replaced on the thursday just in time for my proposed billing set off on the friday. I gave the car a final clean and put the scuttle cover which had recently been painted in the same matt grey as everything else back on the car for the first time to complete the look of the engine bay...............

I then loaded the car up and set off for billing on the friday morning around 9am. Unfortunatly approx 30 miles from home the car started smoking under boost. Due to the quaife box ratios when your at motorway speeds the engine/turbo are always on boost so as you can imagine there was a fair bit of smoke! So I made the decision to return home with the car and make the journey in another motor for the weekend. After speaking to a fair few of you many seem to be of the opinion that the turbo seals may have given up which is a bit annoying as Shaun only put the practically brand new aet hybrid unit on it a short time before I bought it so It cant have seen many miles at all. However the same did happen with Keiths last year so it does show that it is a possibly regardless of mileage. With a bit of luck it may just be a blocked breather but theres also the chance the rings may have failed too. A compression test will be carried out within the next few weeks to see what that shows and I guess I'll have to go from there. It may have to wait a while as I dont have huge funds available for it at the moment to be quite honest. Anyhow as gutted as I was as I really wanted the car to make the show It didnt stop me going. The missus needed the mini over the weekend but my dad didnt need his golf so he let me borrow that and I made the trip down to northampton for billing which even though I was bitterly dissapointed my car didnt make it Im glad I still went. Id like to say a big thanks to all members I chatted to from Jov,png, mig and especially Keith,Andy and both their missus Terri Ann and Emily who kept my spirits up by helping me have a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Any flash thoughts I had of breaking should the damage be terminal have dissapeared and as soon as I have the funds available I will be straight onto sorting out whatever issue the car has. cheers for reading and again thanks to those who who gave nothing but postive comments all weekend. :)

Gutted for you mate, I kept running between the arena and flying past the jov stand but didn't see it there. I assumed you missed the show, but Scott later told me you was around. Due to the kids and slightly unhappy wife didn't get the chance to wander over and look for you.

Mine did exactly the same thing last year on the way to PVS, for some unknown reason it dumped what seemed like all the oil out of the exhaust. Strangly it vanished 30 mins after it started and never did it again.

I got a secondhand hybrid for around £250 on mig, which is not bad if its that. I even brought the big camera

Was gonna say, when did you wide arch itlol

Thanks Andy I appreciate it!

Scott.... yeah I thought word would get round but it didnt so eveyone who came over was asking the same "where is the car" :(

Jeff... No worries fella there's always next year, I take it by wide arch you mean the yellow mk1 that was on the jov stand etc?

Benn.... cheers but seriously their was no one more gutted than myself. The only show I wanted the car to be spot on for was this one and it didnt happen. I saw Keith pull along side me on my way in and my heart sank..... His motor just looked stunning and he looked proud as punch as he drove in (which he should). At that moment I just wanted to turn round and go home. After all the hard work that was the proud feeling I wanted on my way in but it wasnt to be. :(

Shame hey nick!

Seems faulty blowers were on Joffs mind aswell:(

But, it can always be fixed, and the paint etc is alot more time consuming than a turbo swap!

Car looks fantastic!

Keep ya chin up fella:thumb:

Vaughan..... Thanks and good to see you also.

Matt.... cheers fella. Only thing is the mechanical will cost me substantially more if its something major. :(

Joe.... cheers pal Im keeping my fingers crossed!

A heartfelt post Nick. When you told me about it on Sat, I had to stop you from explaining your story, yet again! I totally understand how you feel. Mine just wouldnt make it to PV, 3 years on the trot like it was jinxed or something.

Glad you have your chin up.

Yeah nick, meant the other jov one.
Agree that ph2 is plenty enough for a nova, it'll be worth the wait to see it I'm sure. You've helped me enough, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.
