Evening all,

I thought Id give a quick update...... Following the recent birth of mine and Jess's first child ( Ethan ) I havent had a great deal of time for anything with four wheels! You guys that are already parents Im sure will agree free time is rather limited to say the least! However this was my main reason I sold D20TBO and bought Martins nova as It was built well and ready to enjoy with little time, money and effort needed. I dont really have the time at the moment to go through everything Ive done thoroughly however heres how it currently stands almost ready for one of the best shows of the year. At least four changes can be spotted ;) ..............

Looking excellent as usual. That Mark Beeson's old plate?

Wheel colour looks nice, has it got a slight bronze flip in the paint?

Cheers Rich, Yeah Its a custom matt bronze that took a few months to perfect. I was going to go for the matt grey I usually like to use but chose to do something different this time round. Its not Marks plate no however very similar if you look it up.... Found it on the dvla at a cracking price so thought why not!

cheers fella.... You'd have been better off going for B 16V TB as baz's 16v turbo etc as It's available. I would have ideally liked J16VTB but It wasn't available sadly.

Spent quite a bit of time of on it recently when and were I can and It's coming on rather well. Quite pleased tbh!

So following on from the other day then........... A little bit backwards but see If you can follow!

The only thing that wasnt in order when I bought the car was the fact it was still registered as a 1.4 and I have been stopped in the past so wanted the car to be all above board. Whilst the car was in at work for the mot my boss had a look round it and noted the engine number so he could write me a short letter to the dvla and I could have the tax class/engine number changed over. Whilst the necessarys were away I thought it was a good idea to get cracking with a few bits.....

Now I did intend on refurbing the RL7's on D20TBO in a matt bronze so had been slowly researching my options and shortlisted two colours and tinted until I was happy. Two sprayout cards were painted and matt cleared then I took them home to see what they looked like against the breeze blue solid colour......

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg9_zpsc342e1e6.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg9_zpsc342e1e6.jpg.html)
http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg8_zps454dac81.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg8_zps454dac81.jpg.html)

A lot of head scratching followed and I sent a few texts out to see what a few of you thought.... Opinions varied and in the end I left it down to Ethan with a little help from Jess who picked this one....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg11_zps2a4d8c85.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg11_zps2a4d8c85.jpg.html)

I was still rather sceptical however decided to go with it! Wheels/tyres off and prepared ready for paint...........

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/281_zps5548a1f5.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/281_zps5548a1f5.jpg.html)

Id also recieved a set of mirrors from Scott (cheers) and intended to chop them up but for now decided against It. The stock mirrors I got with the car had a few marks but I didnt want to paint these just in case the colour differed too much. So I thought paint the spare covers then at least If they were off colour I could still use the ones painted with the shell. These were primed then flatted ready for paint......

Ive also always liked the promotasport c20let heat shield and had Iain on here replicate one for me sometime ago. Thanks again for this! I decided against polishing It as I didnt want too much shiny shiny so got it prepared for paint also....

Then onto the clearcoat....... this particular clear actually goes on shiny like normal clear but a chemical reaction during the bake cycle later changes it to Matt. This actually makes life easier for application......

At this point Id re fitted the centres but thought the gloss black caps looked out of place on matt finish wheels so got them ready for paint....

I also had this turn up..... I actually painted/polished this exact cover about 4 years ago for a member on here who never used It. I asked to buy It back as the hours they take I just didnt have and I knew It'd give the engine bay the splash of colour it needed.......

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg6_zps8c60cb32.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg6_zps8c60cb32.jpg.html)

I added the above then got back on with the detailing session from the last update. After all the wet flatting/compounding used to remove the scratches you tend to be left with swirls no matter how hard you try. Even keeping a clean damp mop head on gentle speed I could see a few light swirls in bright sunlight and when using the daylight torch. So I went round the car again with a fine compound followed by an anti hologram finishing glaze & waffle head which worked well and left me with no swirly swirly... Happy days! The day after I finished the job with a coat of poorboys black hole and dodo wax to leave it looking spiffing!...

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg13_zpsdd6ed676.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg13_zpsdd6ed676.jpg.html)

By the time Id done all that the dvla had been kind enough to return my updated logbook and new tax disc. However Id since found the new reg so sent It straight back to them! Thats 3 times in a couple of months theyve had the logbook so bet Im popular at swansea lol. Anyhow Ive recently got It back all sorted so fitted new plates leaving It like this.....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg5_zps84e96d71.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg5_zps84e96d71.jpg.html)

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag32/jessbean86/imagejpg12_zps3a11efce.jpg (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/jessbean86/media/imagejpg12_zps3a11efce.jpg.html)

Ive since noticed I have a wheel thats losing a little air so looks like I'll have to take that to be sorted. I have been out and covered some miles hoping It would seal itself but no joy. So a clean up followed by some bead sealer should sort It hopefully. Other than that Im halfway through polishing the dizzy and head bracket which will conclude my jobs for this year. Hope youve enjoyed the read!

Yeah ive gel'd the bumpers up that's all though. As they were new they didn't really need much. I have proper plates for it so most of the year will probably run them. Plates above are just for shows if I can get away with it. I've worked on hundreds that do!

lol yeah nick, i see loads of illegal plates, iffy spaced to spell out named etc, black and silver, most of them don't care and have enough money i guess to keep paying the fines, its the people who don't realise if your displaying say and England flag instead of EU you still get done, stupid really, but like i say if it's on something like a nova you always get spotted, well mine did :)
Like you say though normal plate for on the road keeps them happy, better then £35 for each time they notice.

Nice work on cleaning the paint up dude, mines been a nightmare for it over the last few months.

It took a fair bit of effort but I'm happy with the results. Martin had only ever used 3m imperial hand glaze to clean it as it's non abrasive. I think he has worried about scratching the surface which shows easily on the solid colours. Although It was painted 8 years ago you'd think It was done recently! Looks very well.

Nice touches Nick. I too am looking for a plate. What did you use to search?

Can't find any I like lol

Cheers..... I use elite registrations and dvla. Dvla are generally the cheapest going though for exactly the same product. Try think outside the box to find something your after etc.

Yeah my thoughts exactly mk2's can get away with so much more without looking pants. As for rear wiper I wouldn't mind an early tailgate with holes welded up but that will be next year.

Quick evening post guys...... Ive recently been cleaning up within the engine bay. One or two items caught my eye as being a little grotty mainly the dizzy, head bracket and the unpainted section on the rocker cover. These have since been wet sanded smooth and treated with some metal polish which has cleaned them up no end.....

Although really with Its little extras such as the loom tuck, holes welded up and so on Its one of the neatest c20let engine bays Ive seen. Even the hole that should be their between the turret and chassis rail has been welded up for a smoother look.....

Next job is to degrease/clean some areas and polish the bay. N/S/F tyre is still losing air slightly so must sort that at the weekend. On the whole though pleased how its coming on.....

Lol. I wouldn't ever work on it in that case!

You should see the underneath. Not a rusty fitting in sight! Everything's über clean to go with the breeze blue painted underside. Looks fantastic!

Yes the bays pretty much identical to andy b's. All the looms hidden away, unused holes welded up and so on leaving it looking very minimal.

Only just read this - congrats on expanding the family mate. As said by Vlietje, you'll suffer from broken nights but it'll all be worth it. :)

Currently tucked away for the winter mate. I've been working on a few upgrades for next year but nothing groundbreaking. Wilwood brake kit, shorty mirrors and a Toovey belt insert/machined rocker cover will be about the only changes if I have time to get them sorted. Pics are on Facebook if you'd like to take a look. ;)

Cannot believe this is sold! One of the nicest breeze blues on the road. Was hoping to see more of this during the summer now that I'm building something similar.

Hey guys, I'm surprised to see this old thread bumped!! As said the nova has been sold on to Brian. We reached a deal about six months ago and he recently collected. My interest in having a project car has been getting smaller and smaller each year and the novas have hardly turned a wheel under my ownership. What with family life and the amount of biking I do nowadays just left no time for any other hobby. I never thought I'd be without a nova but slowly but surely I became more and more involved in mountain biking and would much rather spend my time out and money in that direction. When I was younger I always wanted to be able to put together a nova like those we saw in the magazines and once I'd learned my trade and came back to them I challenged myself to do so. On a project front I feel like I've achieved what I always wanted to so I'm happy to leave them behind me with good memories! Big thanks to all who have helped me along the way! All the best with your projects guys. I will enjoy a read now and again!

Hey guys, Still here with the occasional login! Big projects are not something I have time for currently but I still tinker with my daily’s and the occasional bike frame. Downtime is generally spent with my children or smashing downhill as fast as I can! Hope everyone is well. :)

All well round my end, currently moving heaps of Nova bits into storage because I've sold my house. Temporary moved in with a mate, looking for a new job and a new house, hoping to find a place where I can finally start working on my novas that have been sitting for the better part of 2 decades.
