Wow ! Nick you never dissapoint with your updates big or small and the attention to detail and level of finish is just awesome mate, the wheels are spot on perfect for the car and the plate is a really nice touch, I haven't seen sr interior that mint apart from in a Nova brochure lol

All I can say really is that this is going to be an epic nova when it's finished no matter what engine you decide to fit, keep up the fantastic work mate

Nick, why do you mount the licence plate onto the bumper? Over here we use licence plate surrounds so we can click the licence plates in, so the bolts don't show.

See below for an example:

This is unbelievably clean!

If your ever in the neighbourhood drop in and take a look for yourself fella you have my number etc.

She's a beauty Nick, I vote, leave the front engine in as standard............................then slap a LET over the rear but hide it, lol

Lol!

Cheers Iain, yeah edd has a habit of supplying me with quality parts for my projects!

The misses is fine with my hobby although I think this may be the last project as I intend on keeping it for a good while. I don't get the time like I used to and would rather put the funds to other means. As long as I have some form of cheap fast fun I will be happy!

Do you have any pics of them mounted to the same bumper as mine? It would be interesting to see how they look and fit. Cheers for the idea.

I'll send you a pic of the ones I have on my Skoda Superb tomorrow so you get an idea.
No idea whether UK spec licence plates would fit though but I think they've got the same dimensions compared to NL spec plates.

Thanks for the pics..... I think it may work on the rear but not at the front with the ribbed bumper etc. your gsi front bumper is a nice flat area where as mine is very different and I don't think even if it worked it would sit right. No point doing the rear without the front either really. Cheers anyway though!

If you want to avoid the screws just use double sided foam sticky pads, can get them most places that sell a plate in an appropriate 'level of stickyness'. I got some when I got some pressed metal plates from Dubmeister, and the only issue I had was on a textured bumper that wasn't really cleaned properly, where the plate bends around the front bumper (BMW E34) Other than that they're still stuck there and the front hasn't been a problem with the 2 remaining pads (should really get that fixed though)

Stunning, Nick! I am a big fan of mk1's with that skinny bumper and grille combo!
I definitley don't think we see it enough.

Your car looks great, and as usual, is so clean! You should definitley look for some centre caps for your Racelines though. A nice finishing touch.

The way you like to colour-code your plastics and wheels is like being inside my head - except I think you paint better! lol

I'll join in with the composite bonding love-in, too. I bonded a brass boss into the hull of my jetski, and that hasn't been ripped out at 60mph + GPS speeds. As said, it holds panels onto cars and wings onto planes!

Good luck with the rest of it, mate! :thumb:

I've used sticky pads many times before with no issues but the front plate is under a fair bit of tension were it curves in the middle and the area is ribbed not flat so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't work. But it's not something I'm fussed over as I am trying to be a bit more period with this project exterior wise and don't mind the screws etc.

Cheers fella, I'm very happy with how's it's coming along and have never owned a nova with this bumper setup so a first for me too. I was bidding on some caps for the wheels but they ended up going for daft money in the end. I'm sure you said in a previous post though you know we're to get them new? If so can you please drop me a pm as if their not daft prices I would get some. Cheers,

Nick.

Will dig out the contact info mate. I definitley bought them through Speedline though. They said they were now the official Raceline supplier.

An idea of how they look:

I tried multiple compomotive ones to no avail when I had the rl7's you now own until I found the correct raceline centres.

Cheers Liam but the majority of them look like the genuine raceline centres. They look very similar to comp items but are a lot shallower in their depth. Check Martin kelsons thread from when he had his wheels refurbished as it shows the genuine centres. I know this as they're my old wheel/centres setup.

whats a matter with bolts and caps to hold the plate on ? lol

Screws/caps ftw Edd!

Messy.

Nah not on this build lol!

Seconded, ive told a few peeps this before, certainly helps when selling cars :thumb:

It certainly does.... as soon as I buy a car genuine plates/tax disc holder and dealer stickers usually go on. Looks much cleaner/proper imo.

As said above they may but Ive tried and failed with comp centres before. But Im not actually that fussed truth be told! I'll paint the rear covers that stand out and that will do if I cant find some proper fitting centres.

No rear turrets here just the short bodied gaz coilover setup. As it stands theirs still a lot of adjustment available to go much lower but I wont go any further than another 10mm now as Ill be happy at that. :)

Nick, have you contacted Speedline wheels in Telford?
I used to work by them and its where my Chronos came from.
They were something to do with Raceline back I the day, dealer or manufacturer, can't remember.

Maybe worth a call or email.
If I still worked in Telford I would pop & see them for you but sadly I don't & there probably shut at weekends.

Hi guys,

Apologies Its been a while! However Ive just come back from holiday so thought It was about time I got an update in. Other things have taken priority for a bit namely house decoration (decorating sucks!) lol. But I had been saving my spare cash for sometime in order to purchase some more parts with a good engine being a priority. Id been looking around for a while but as always its a minefield with old engines as most have been abused and or poorly treated/maintained. Many are out of the car so you cant see or hear them run either which isnt ideal! Then I got some info that a well spec'd nova turbo was possibly being broken so thought Id go take a look. Myself and the missus spent the weekend up at Andy Bishops in order for me to drop by and have a chat with Mark Beeson regarding his decision to split his nova seen below................

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/image_zps189fea82.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/image_zps189fea82.jpg.html)

This was an ideal situation as the car was still complete I got to see/hear the engine run before it was removed and I also got to nosy round a few other parts that interested me too! History wise the engine came refreshed from Steve Milton in 2002 and as many know Steve knows his way round these engines. Its since been refreshed approx 2008 and only seen around 6k since according to Mark. The turbo had also been replaced with a hybrid unit from Turbo Techinics which was a bonus. For many years It only ran Genuine eds phase 2 so has never run huge amounts of boost either. A genuine eds 3.5 kit and Msd ignition replaced this a while back but again at least Its genuine and safe kit to run with the engine spec as it is. Still as always you take your chance with any motor and I know Mark likes to drive them hard but at least Its always been maintained and he certainly hasnt been shy spending on parts or custom work to achieve what he wanted with the car. Believe me their was a huge amounts of ££££ in receipts!!

So we discussed the above and what other parts Id like and came to a deal. A few weeks later once them parts had been removed myself and the mrs brother headed up to stoke in the in laws van with a pallet/ratchet straps to collect. A few parts were also left with Andy as Its only a small van. In the passing weeks I collected these along with some more parts Id since thought about and decided Id have also! In hindsight I think It would have been more beneficial to buy the car remove what I wanted and split the rest lol!

Engine home and filled with a few litres of tws I had sat around......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale133_zps3fa4142b.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale133_zps3fa4142b.jpg.html)

Genuine Eds phase 3.5 ecu with 3 bar map sensor/powerwheel and Msd ignition setup......

Engine spec....

- Re-built C20let by SBS.
- New bearings throughout
- Machined pistons
- Arp rod bolts
- Uprated Head gasket
- Bill Blydenstein Gas Flowed Coscast head
- Xe inlet cam with vernier pulleys.
- Hybrid turbo with cosworth -31 actuator
- Weber adjustable fuel reg
- Genuine Eds phase 3.5 ecu with 3 bar map sensor and powerwheel for adjustable boost
- Uprated high flow injectors
- Msd ingnition setup
- Bosch big power fuel pump with secondary swirl pump/pot also to prevent starvation under hard cornering/use etc.

Im sure it will be enough to keep me happy once installed as approx power is circa 300 according to Mark. Not that Im one to be bothered by figures but the above shot the car round the nurburgring in under 9 minutes so Im sure It will be fun!
Once home It was degreased/cleaned and filled with Tws motorsport (M3 oil) in an attempt to keep it healthy until the time Its ready to go into the nova. For anyone interested here's a video of the car using the engine at the nurburgring....

Big thanks to Ian,Rob,Rick,Andy & Emily and Mark for their help with the above.

More to follow..........

As i said at the time, bloody good buy.

Nick J
21-06-13, 08:46 PM
A good idea when running a big block motor in a nova is to have good brakes....... Mark had wilwood midilites with custom brackets and machined bells using 310mm rotors. He had them machined down so they would fit under speedline allesios which was his wheel of choice without using any spacers. I thought these would be a good buy so snapped them up as well as the fuel pump/swirl setup. Another concern I had when looking at pics of my car was I kept thinking it looks a little plain although It is the look I wanted I felt it needed some spicing up from an exterior point of view so another part that came from Mark was the bonnet with the rare courtenay carbon fibre vents........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale036_zpsa8da1f9b.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale036_zpsa8da1f9b.jpg.html)

The discs that came with the brake setup were almost new so I gave the edges and a small area round the centre a wirebrush off and got them primed/painted......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale008_zps12dc0c2d.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale008_zps12dc0c2d.jpg.html)
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale014_zps25cc8688.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale014_zps25cc8688.jpg.html)

The calipers and hoses were cleaned/degreased and they were then ready for fitting......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale111_zps1264d666.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale111_zps1264d666.jpg.html)

Lastly another set of parts Mark had which caught my eye were the hockley hub setup. The carriers were machined by Harry Hockley to suit bigger bearings and then use stock 16v drive flanges which make them a lot stronger and less likely to cause problems later. Apparantly Mark and Andy have had conversion flanges crack/snap/shear in the past under hard use which is why they opted for similar setups nowadays. Both cars have tried and tested these and even when being used hard they have lasted so I thought them a good buy. I then sold the conversion flanges I had which didnt far off pay for these which was handy.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale138_zpsdf8fb659.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale138_zpsdf8fb659.jpg.html)

On another note I had this extremely well made rose jointed/shortened linkage to suit the F28 made up. Cheers to Grant for this as its top quality.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale002_zps4c499d5a.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale002_zps4c499d5a.jpg.html)

I also needed a pot type flywheel to suit the F28 as Mark ran a flat type for the F20. I won this on ebay for £5! Later on I blasted it at work making sure the area for the clutch was well masked up. Came out very clean though.........

I would be glad to help as you have always helped me as and where's needed. I didn't actually realise you can run a flat fly with f28?? I have both so no biggy if flat fly is best.

Good to see you have updated this I have the exact brakes as you mate look awsome with disks painted might need to do this also really nice linkage can't wait to get mines :) will look really good when you have it out at billing just wish I could make it :( next year tho, but as usual amazing build bud

Yeah it's been a while coming but I wanted to wait until it was a worthy amount of updates etc. Brakes feel the best setup I have run on a nova to date so you'll be happy with them. Be careful with your wheel choice though as mark had bells and brackets machined to fit as they wouldn't go behind allesios without the work.

Great work Nick,

It is supurb to see some of the main parts of Marks Nova live on.

One of my all time favourites from back in the early 2000's!

Keep the updates flowing!

Cheers Kev! One of mine too tbh..... Glad I got in their before the word was out!

Nice bits there Nick

Your going to need some misalignment washers on the rose joints on that linkage tho, you won't be able to set it up properly without them I found

Get cracking on the rest of the updates as well

Cheers Edd, your pal made it up and has assured me it will be fine as he's made many that have no issues working. However if that is the case it's no problem misalignment washers don't cost much in fact sure I have some somewere will have to take a look!

So were was I?........

Since buying the above it left nova funds a little low so no new parts for a while now! I did think though that rather have all these parts sat around I could fit some so planned on making a start with the bonnet......

Upon getting the bonnet home I had a good look round it.... It was a genuine bonnet and wasnt bad apart from a few small dents and the vent installation had been done well but I knew I could make it better. I was considering removing them and briefly tried to but whatever they've used to glue them in with was absolutely solid! Thinking about it I knew their was a possibility of breaking the vents when trying to cheesewire them out or similar so opted to leave them in but make them a lot neater so Id be happy with it once finished.

A messy bead of sealer was around the edge of the vents which I didnt like so removed it. I later tried to remove the vents but as said earlier gave that upas a bad idea! The carbon on the underside was also extremely rough and had been painted over so needed rubbing smooth. All this had to be done by hand as I had no air tool small enough and I didnt want them damaging so fingerblast it was!........

Sealer removed and an attempt at vent removal....

All the underside was prepared first removing any suspected rust/faults I found along the way. I couldnt touch the outside as It needed to be left glossy for the paintless dent guy to work his magic on the small dents to prevent use of unecessary filler etc........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale040_zpsa7563d53.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale040_zpsa7563d53.jpg.html)

Then the whole of the underside was prepared....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale044_zps335693e9.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale044_zps335693e9.jpg.html)

Once my dent man turned up he lifted a few small dents and levelled a couple of rippled areas. Their was however a few shallowed areas he couldnt perfect due to their positions so I did my best to block level the full bonnet to remove these and then fill a few small areas before priming......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale048_zpsb310881c.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale048_zpsb310881c.jpg.html)

A small amount of sealer was needed round the outside of the vents as it has been done previously but they had missed a few areas.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale049_zpsfc4f2a25.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale049_zpsfc4f2a25.jpg.html)

Once that had cured It was ready for high build primer.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale050_zps75668811.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale050_zps75668811.jpg.html)

I only primed a limited area round the back so I could get good build on the rear of the vents to make them smooth. It wasnt necessary to use high build on the full rear of the bonnet as a sealer primer will be enough later on. Into primer we went.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale053_zps387973ba.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale053_zps387973ba.jpg.html)

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale082_zps15dfc7ac.jpg?t=1371896941

This was then left over the weekend to air dry. I didnt want to force dry (bake it) when I dont know what products have been used previously as they could possibly react with mine and it was a chance I didnt want to take as I was in no rush.

More to follow later...........

On the linkage side of things, just a heads up...

The nut underneath the RJ at the gearbox end of the linkage, i drilled though this (through the nut, RJ studding and out the other side of the nut) and fitted a spilt pin as the nut kept coming off. Not slating Grunts work at all. I am running an early Nova linkage with the smaller diameter bushes. Not sure of this makes a difference.

I'm not sure that nut under the RJ at the gearbox end is going to work with an f28 (assuming there is one as hard to tell on the picture). Mine was similar and I had to drill and tap the linkage to bolt it to instead as it is so close to the gearbox.

I would run the pot flywheel as then you can run a LET cover plate which is stronger than an XE one. XE flat fly and cover slipped like mad on mine with just phase 2 (so did a stock LET setup as well though tbh).

im sure with lots of boost, its better to have the slightly heavier pot type fly; keep momentum rather than gaining it a bit too quickly perhaps with the flat type.. if it is weaker?

Don't think I could ever be without one nowadays!

Wow, didn't see that updates coming..

Shame beasty broke it, but nice to know the engine is in good hands.

Yeah as said previously it was a shame but made life easier for me in a bulk buy of parts ready to go etc.

I'm not sure that nut under the RJ at the gearbox end is going to work with an f28 (assuming there is one as hard to tell on the picture). Mine was similar and I had to drill and tap the linkage to bolt it to instead as it is so close to the gearbox.

Cheers Lee, I think I will have to compare with the linkage Dan made for Andy and Keith for differences and if needs be copy it as they've had no troubles with theirs and the f28.

Cheers and yea, sure you use the F28 cover and the F20 plate, someone will know for sure. I just told them what i was running when i ordered it..lol

Yeah I've heard that.... From what I've been told pot is maybe best though.....

When i made them Lee i put a slight bend upwards so the nut cleared the box casing.

I will take note of this next time I'm at Andys etc cheers.

I would run the pot flywheel as then you can run a LET cover plate which is stronger than an XE one. XE flat fly and cover slipped like mad on mine with just phase 2 (so did a stock LET setup as well though tbh).

Thanks again Lee, I have since been told the same.

We'll see I guess..... As said above will have a compare and see what the differences are when I get chance.

Hey guys,

So once the primer was dry a good block down was in order. I managed to get it all completely level apart from one area seen below which I ended up blocking right through the primer back to filler in order to get it to a stage were I knew once reprimed and blocked it would be level. This was initially caused by a previous repair marks bodyshop had done and as my paintless dent guy couldnt get in to lift it so I skimmed it with filler as shown previously. However it turned out to more difficult than I thought to re repair!...........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale004_zpsfd7cda7b.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale004_zpsfd7cda7b.jpg.html)

Vents inside and out needed a good flat as carbon quality is never great especially this old type......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale003_zps74536c5e.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale003_zps74536c5e.jpg.html)
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale006_zps49561922.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale006_zps49561922.jpg.html)

Once I had it all rubbed down I could use a sealer to fill the gap on the inside between the vent and inside of the bonnet as It could'nt been done previously as the bare metal needed primer first....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale005_zpsd57519f2.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale005_zpsd57519f2.jpg.html)

After the sealer had cured it was time for a re prime.......

At this stage the vent areas were reprimed over the top of the sealer to give them a better build for me to re flat and make them even smoother.....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale010_zpsaa6953bb.jpg (http://s84.photobucket.com/user/nj_photo/media/partsforsale010_zpsaa6953bb.jpg.html)

Again once dry.... I used a dry guide coat powder as well as black aerosol already applied to allow me to see any flaws and block level it down to perfection...

I fitted it straight onto the old bolt/hinge marks however it did need a little adjusting to be a perfect fit. I managed to remove the old soft close sponges from near the hinges on the old bonnet without damaging them. These were re fitted to the new bonnet with a new bonnet catch clip and safety pin Keith sent me over. I was rather dubious about fitting a modified bonnet to a mk1 as generally the suit mk2's more imo. However I am very pleased with it so its here to stay! opinions welcome however as always.

With the bonnet finished I turned my attention to somewere else which I wanted to do ages ago but was too lazy to! The inner arches at the rear needed some tidy up work from coilover fitting. At the time they were fitted I was busy moving house so just sprayed them with plenty of waxoil to protect them until I got round to it. Really pleased with how Its coming on! I think freshly painted arches only show off a novas cleanliness even more and as Ive painted right round the back It will give them plenty of protection too. A good coat of wax followed by waxoil round the back lips of all four arches finished the job.

More updates to follow when I get the chance!

So things were going rather well however when I had the front wheel off sorting the arches I noticed a small amount of brake fluid inside the n/s/f wheel causing concern. Further inspection showed us the main seal of the caliper was leaking. Pretty miffed by this as they were sold to me on the understanding they had been rebuilt. However I had bought the new kit from Mark so they were on borrowed time anyhow this just sped things up. The dvla were also causing me grief taking their time processing a refund of tax as I had to tax the car to put the new plate onto it but later cashed it in as I wasnt ready for it to be road ready. They took that long I was actually ready to then tax the car in the meantime to be able to take it for the brakes sorting!

Anyhow I eventually got the tax issue sorted and the new front brake kit is now fitted......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/partsforsale116_zps008c8a6f.jpg

Whilst this was being sorted I also had the rear adjusted a further 5mm or so lower. The news tyres gave enough clearance to do so and Its still at a useable level anything more would be too or unuseable or for what I want the car for anyhow....

The brakes work very well with a great pedal feel so Im very pleased with them. Obviously they wont see pain for some time yet but sure they'll do the job well once the motors in.

I imagine its a similar bonder we use... Can be used for spoilers and windows. Sets like bloody concrete but I suppose it has to for safety reasons. Their can only be a small area for the glue to sit but even after cutting off the excess and having a blade round the inside edges their was still no movement whatsoever! Hence why I left them!

Hey guys,

So were are we up to.....

The car needed an mot before billing so whilst the wilwood setup was being fitted I had It checked over to make sure anything suspect could be sorted beforehand. It turned out all It needed was a bulb for the brake/sidelight so I sorted that and took it to work one saturday for the test. I was a bit worried as I was unsure if the lift would be low enough to get the car on and feared things being extremely awkward however It turned out I was worrying over nothing as It went on without a hitch... Bonus! It attracted a lot of attention as the guys at my new work in the service department have never seen the car before and all I heard was lovely comments which was great! It then sailed straight through the test.........

By the time I left work the weather had turned sour and the car got soaked on route home so an afternoon cleaning session was in order......

All arches cleaned and waxed up.....

The rears followed after........

Over the next few weeks I then concentrated on the engine bay getting right down into the lower corners too! Gearbox also came up well thanks to some fine wire wool.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/nj_photo002/partsforsale166_zps61678a53.jpg

Then I got busy with the poorboys glaze followed by the dodo juice orange crush wax. After a few hours graft It was looking well.....

Hey guys,

Thought I'd add a quick update..... Sadly billing has been and gone for another year but I hope you enjoyed what you saw! Myself and the missus had a great time and the car performed faultlessly all the way their and back which I was quite proud of given I've never probably done more than a 30 mile round trip since I've owned it! It was great to speak to some of you I already know and to also put a few new faces to usernames also! Trawling the forums recently I've found some rather nice pics that put my camera and skills to shame so thought I'd add them in here. Big thanks to those responsible for them!...

Very pleased with the above shots at they give the car a little more justice than my pics! Many did say to me that it was much better in the metal so I was happy at that. Also a couple I've just got from Mark of us on route home.....

Was good to see Matt and the old girl again as its been a while. However it just made my car look so bland! On another note however I did acquire my first ever parts from the auto jumble at billing! Some ever elusive mk1 parcel shelf supports that I was made aware if by a few other members have been acquired so cheers for the help their. Once I've tarted them up I will fit them so I can use the mint parcel shelf I have waiting as it was the only thing I didn't like about my car whilst it was on show. It will probably be a while until the next update now so cheers for billing comments and hope you enjoyed the brief read and pics.

So much detail and care has went into these cars and like I said before it's a credit to you and the people who helped along the way. I'm guessing your a body repair man/sprayer?

Any more plans for the 1.0? I'd say you have her locked away safe and sound over the winter?

The 1.0 has just been sorned so no more miles until next year now.... I've made a few small changes since billing and have a few more ideas in mind that I have been researching for. Once I have enough for a suitable update I will post them up.

I'm sure they've made a nice job of it for you. From what I can remember it looked a great shell so will no doubt make a cracking car. Hope to see it at a show or maybe you could join rich & co at billing? Theirs a guy on jov who brings his immaculate s2 every year and it's great to see it. lol as soon as Martin Weavers car came up for sale/breaking and then Nick said he was breaking the project my first thought and reply was, he was buying Martins car.

It was no great secret really.... I had a deal with Martin on parts I wanted for D20TBO however later we spoke and ended up doing a deal for the car complete.

I will update at some point with my reasons for this. In a way I was very disappointed to call time on my project but all things considered thought it best to do so. I did very well from the sale of the car and parts so was in a position to buy martins outright and have substantial change so not all bad. I'm extremely busy day and night currently but bear with me and I will tell all soon. Cheers,

Over the next few weeks I then concentrated on the engine bay getting right down into the lower corners too! Gearbox also came up well thanks to some fine wire wool.......

So I guess an update is a little overdue? Apologies for this I just dont seem to get the time I used to! Were to begin...... A little while ago I found building D20TBO was starting to get rather expensive and I knew their would still be a good few ££££ to spend. At the same time I was also really missing having a big block nova to hoon round in over the better weather months. I wouldnt want more than one project and only have garage space for one so owning another wasnt something I wanted so I started considering the possibility of selling it to buy something else that would be fun from the off like I have done In the past.....

However finding a nova turbo thats been built to a standard I would like wouldnt be easy. But I did have a plan in mind and got talking to keith during the weekend of Andy B's wedding about possibly buying his so he could fund his dream motor being a 911 GT3. But even then he wasnt sure he would part with It so I just carried on accumulating parts until........

Enter Martin Weaver with his nova turbo........ Ive known of the car for many years (Circa 1999 was the first time I saw it) And knew It was subject to an extremely high end build with cost being no issue. My initial plan If he broke it up was to cherry pick the quality parts needed for D20TBO but even then their was still parts and ££££ to spend in order to get it up to the standard I would have wanted. Which then got me thinking about buying the whole thing and selling my nova/parts to fund it. In short as many will have seen I put the car and many parts up for sale and was lucky enough to get a quick sale on not only the nova but some other expensive kit too which gave me more than enough funds to think about buying Martins car outright.

After negotiating with the buyer of D20TBO their was a few goodies I needed to fit which ended up being included in the sale. An opel grill badge and the stubby mirrors Id been working on over winter were added and heres how it sat awaiting collection.....

And then at a later date It was collected via a transport firm who I must say was exceptional in the care of loading the car....

So unfortunately we came to the end of my dealings with D20TBO however I know the new owner has some nice plans for It but I hear Its carcooned for a while until he gets chance. I will take this opportunity to thank him for a trouble free sale though and best of luck with It!

This then gave me the chance to go view the nova I wanted to look at. I was tempted to bail after again recieving top money for another nova and maybe look at a 911 myself but that would only be decided by what I saw when I next ventured up to stoke. Arrangements were made and we spent the weekend with Andy/Emily before going off to view the nova. In short I couldnt really fault it! Over the 15 years of owning and building It Martins approach to the project was exceptional. The work carried out on the shell at central blast cleaning alone cost him 3.5k and It didnt even come back with any paint on!!!! All parts used were top end and all work carried out has been to a great standard. How It drove really showed this and later when Andy drove the car he complimented on just how well and tight It felt to drive. As I was unsure of what I may find In stoke I hadnt insured the car so a stop at the nova Inn was required until insurance was sorted and I had chance to get back to collect It.

Tucked up with Andys turbo nova and his next project mini van at the back! .........

First up was an mot as their wasnt much left on the car as Martin had sorned over winter and only taxed it so I could test drive. I wouldnt usually buy a car with this little test left but after a good look round I didnt think it would need much. I then booked it in with work for a test.....

Bit of a pain to actually get it onto a ramp at the front with how low it is but I just jacked it under the tie bar bracket then slid the lift arm under with some custom padding to ensure It wouldnt mark the mint painted underside! Rear is a lot easier just going under the end of the beam either side. For anyone having similar issues the 3m fastcut mop head pads worked a treat on the lift arms as seen here below. Although Its a crap pic the JP exhaust system is a true work of art! ........

Thankfully No issues were found during the mot.... Steering rack inner tie rod ends have a little play but these were only advised and will be replaced shortly. Since then Ive enjoyed putting some miles on it but have also done a little more work too....

I was going to keep the manta 400 mirrors but vision is rather pants so Ive changed to the stock mirrors that came with the car. My paintless dent guy then turned up to have a quick run round the car. As Martin used the car throughout the summer for work it had picked up a couple of small parking dents and their was also some shallow areas in both doors. Although these were brand new they were similar to what I bought for A6VXL and werent perfect to begin with so I had him sort these also to improve upon how straight the car is. .......

Next up was a detailing session...... As I said previously Martin used the car to commute during the summer so as well as picking up the odd dent their was some fine scratches too. Although Ade's made a real nice job of the paint hes flatted it right back for a deep gloss look. Now this may look great but it leaves less material their to work with in the future when marks are found. A paint depth guage is no help as these give material figures to the metal and not individual coat thickness so I just had to work slowly and carefully to remove any marks I found. Using 2k wet & dry and trizact 3/6k to finish I managed to slowly flat the marks out....

Once all marks were removed sucessfully I gave the whole panels a clay and pass with the machine to remove any surface contamination on the paint. Another pass at a later date and a going over with the anti hologram pad/polish being finished with a good wax will see it complete and mint. Still looks well after the first pass though.....

I've looked thru all Martins photos from the build and studied the TV feature and ive not seen a single thing or part or bit on the car where ive thought it. Everything has been done so well and with such thought its fantastic. Huge credit to Martin and the perfect car for you.

I know you've already been enjoying, which im really glad about.

Looking great, the only thing I would try (and I'm not even sure if it would improve it or not!) is to put the blue stripe back onto the bumpers. But a very minor gripe on what is a stunning car, and one which is solely responsible for what I have now!

Cheers fella and in time I'm sure I'll do a few bits.... It doesn't matter to me were d20 went but It was a request of the new owner and for once this chap has a genuine reason why so I respected it that's all. Regarding mine though I am quite happy with it which makes a change! so no desperate changes are needed.
