Looks like this will be another minter! Looking awsome so far Nick!
Hi all, Time for a little update then! After a few more test cards Ive finally settled on a grey Im happy with for the trims and bumpers etc. That sorted I thought Id try it out on a few small bits and pieces. Im going to keep these kind of pieces stored until all the cars painted up and then will just swap them over so everything looks fresh etc. In the long run Im sure painting them all now will save me a fair bit of time in the future etc. anyhow here's what Ive been up to below.
Handles and lock surrounds prepared....

I also came by an excellent gte/gsi servo from Rich (Novasport) with apparantly only 12k use! After a few hours scrubbing during my dinner breaks I had it looking something like this.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip054.jpg
Almost ready for paint once its had some final prep etc.
Ive also been waiting for my dent guy to have the time to pay me a visit also. This saturday he turned up at around 9.45am and didnt get away until after 5pm!! The result is absolutely stunning though! One perfectly straight nova. He slowly went round the car lifting all imperfections on the bodywork including levelling up one or two old repairs that werent quite perfect,The main panel was the roof that took almost 3 hours! As there was three identical dents down both sides of the roof. Ive had him doing my cars for years now and he never fails to impress. Having all imperfections lifted means no use of filler at all which obviously will save me hours of work when it comes to painting the shell. Some pics below........

What exactly is it he's using, magnet type tool??
Looks spot on though mate, not much call for spray job if you ask me.

Ive also been looking at wheel choices as I think allesios as great as they are may just look a little too new for the age/shape of the mk1 nova. Just my opinion anyhow! As some will have seen I was on the lookout for some compomotive mo flat spoke wheels. Simply because they are uber rare and look great. However after a few weeks of no joy I was getting rather impatient! And after seeing the following for sale I bought them.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip064.jpg
A good condition set of cesaro's. Nothing groundbreaking I know but painted up in grey is my intention and I think they'll look well. Nice and simple etc.
But then to my horror a few days later what should pop up for sale?.... Some bloody mo's in 15 and 16". Typical None whatsoever available then two sets and a size choice at the same time! Anyhow after some fund fettling I went on a trip to oldham to meet Rick Draper for these below.
One set of 16" flat spoke mo wheels with excellent toyo rubber.........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip066.jpg?t=1254337204
As Rick has'nt long since had them powdercoated there in tip top condition just a little dusty. Once Ive got a little free time Im going to get the tyres off them and get them prepared for painting. The same grey Ive recently settled on for the other parts will be used followed by a satin finish lacqeur should see the looking cracking. Plus as an added bonus the comps have plenty of room behind them for big brakes so no spacers should be needed to clear the Reyland front brakes. Thats it for now guys as nova funds are empty for a little while now! Be back with more updates soon.
Nick.

What you can see in the pics scott is the glue gun method. This works by a small plastic clip being glued to the panel over the bent area. Then a slidehammer type tool that clips to the above being used to pull the panel surface outwards removing the dent. Its an excellent method which works well in areas the guys cant get into like box sections or areas behind impact bars etc. He used this method on my roof to save stripping out the headlining. ;)
Dan/Keith/Benn...... cheers guys!
Nick.
Wow top stuff Nick! Wheels will suit well i reckon. What's the actual colour you've decided on for the lower half/wheels?
scott.parker
30-09-09, 08:23 PM
Ah i see! the only way i have seen it done is before prep/paint with similar method but they weld a small rivet type thing to the panels etc.
Wow top stuff Nick! Wheels will suit well i reckon. What's the actual colour you've decided on for the lower half/wheels?
Cheers John! Its finished up as a custom mix, I found a colour near as damn it to the vauxhall blue/grey colour then tinted it slightly to finish it.
Scott, Yeh its almost the same method as the repair method "Pin Pulling" Only the dent chaps similar method doesnt mark the paintwork at all.
Nick.
Nick, nice choice of rims!, did you consider some astra champion wheels at all?
Will look perfect on those wheels
Southie

This is going to look great Nick. The wheels will definately suit being grey giving the yellow even more lift. That colour match looks brilliant, I wouldn't mind knowing which colour you've used as I'm wanting to do my door bottoms.
Top work as always Nick. :)
Looks awesome, love the colour :) And mostly towards scott, the paint job as it is is fapping awesome, but I can see why nick would want to respray it as his paintwork is on another level compared to most, it would probably actually improve it where most would fail to do as good a job as is currently on there at the moment!

One thing that i did always fancy doing to it if i ever got round to taking it apart again was removing the fuel filler cap/hole and moving it into the door shut, have seen 1 or 2 of these done and they look great, giving the side a nice clean look, and most of all none of them water runs coming out of it when you wash it
Nick, nice choice of rims!, did you consider some astra champion wheels at all?
Hey Dan, Im afraid I knew before I even purchased the car what rims I wanted on it! It was just a matter of getting them and now I have with the mo flat spokes etc. I think they suit the mk1 very well imo.
Skoob.... Thanks fella.
NBC.... cheers! You have pm by the way ;)
MK999..... Thanks for the compliment! Although the paintwork on the sr isnt bad I wouldnt say it was the best in places either! I dont think I'll be happy until its had a repaint. Now the cars all levelled up It will look proper with a good paintjob on it that has an even finish all the way round if you understand what Im saying etc.
Matt... Cheers mate, get yourself over soon!
Shaun.... To be honest I did actually think of that myself, I really like Karl rowntrees done in the same way. Im just thinking would the finished look be worth all the effort? As to do it properly does involve a fair amount of work. Plus then Id be going away from the standardish look Id like to keep really. It certainly is something to think about though!

My opinion is, don't bother, unless your going full on show car like the last one theres no point in moving it mate, keep it simple.
Scott

No problem lol Just the way it is :) Yeah I get what you're saying, I'm a bit of a lush paintwork lover myself, only difference is I can't spray it for love nor money :(
Drove past a new porsche the other day, and the paintwork on that was actually sublime, you could see perfect reflections in the metallic where that was so flat, and then the lacquer on top was totally spot on as well, was like a sort of double mirror effect with the glittery effect of the metallic underneath, stunning! I dunno what they're like normally but I was impressed as it's most likely factory paint too!

Roof gutter trims not a problem fella... I have some brand new ones in the loft! ;)
Nick.
Hi all, Little update then. First off after work one night last week I stopped a little to get my servo finished. As some bits under the bonnet are powdercoated black I opted to paint it black and finished it with a satin finish lacqeur for a standard look etc........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip071.jpg?t=1254674566
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip072.jpg?t=1254674598
I also had a pm recently from Edd Rodgers on here who offered me a full set of original gm vinyl in the blue grey colour I wanted. He had them supplied by Duick on here but decided against using them. They arrived in yesterdays post, Big Thanks to Edd for these!............
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip073.jpg?t=1254674775
Also as Id changed my mind on the grey I will be using numerous bits Ive done recently had to be prepared and painted again! Below in a slightly different grey than the last time!......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip077.jpg?t=1254674845
And lastly for todays update... I decided after last years fiasco with the red one (some may remember the unfortunate non fitting scenario of a set of allesios after many hours work!) I thought it best to trial fit these Comp's before painting them up. To check mainly they clear the Reylands on the front and all the coilovers etc. The good news is they seem to do just that! Plenty of clearance on the brakes and suspension all round which is good. The only one thing I can say against them is on the front they seem to have a little excess space between the hub and the centre of wheel (1.5mm at a maximum). I havent driven it as yet to see if It makes a difference but I think a set of thin spigott rings may be needed? Ive never run a set of comps before so Im unsure if they have a slightly looser fit than other wheels? I know my allesios on the previous car were quite a firm fit in comparison. Any advice help here would be good! Anyhow here's some pics of one side fitted.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip088.jpg?t=1254675596
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip089.jpg?t=1254675646
Plenty of clearance here (approx 15mm between caliper and wheel spoke!) with no spacers needed.....
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip090.jpg?t=1254675705
And here on the front.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip083.jpg?t=1254675792
And on the rears........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip087.jpg?t=1254675894
I actually dont mind the look of them in black but I think they will be more subtle in grey to be honest. One last cheeky shot below!........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip081.jpg?t=1254676011
Lastly for today I enquired about the gutter strips at my local vaux dealer, They came up trumps with a new set in blue grey colour! Bonus........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip080-1.jpg?t=1254676080
Now all the vinyls,Trims, mouldings and wheels I wanted are sourced Im only left chasing a grill. Im only being fussy really as one clip has broken from mine But for what it'll cost to get one I may as well. To be quite honest I cant believe all the parts I was after have all come together so quickly as I thought some might be a real nightmare to find. Only thing is its left me a little bit low on funds! So with christmas fast approaching I cant see me spending anymore on it until the new year now. I am however uber happy with what Ive achieved/sourced in a very small period of time! :)

Good old Edd. He's not my best buddy for nuffin.
Cant believe you managed to get it all genuine nick !
Will look awesome when its all together
What colour is that on the grey door handles etc and can i have your dent mans number ?
I usually always end up with comps, and i think they have been a bit looser than most but ive never had any issues with them.
Looks spot on mate, and may i say im jealous, not everyone manages to get all genuine bits. :thumb:

Glad to hear that on the comps fella!, Ive since ordered some 1mm spigott rings just for piece of mind, I'll test drive it with and without to check for any difference. :)
Keith, cheers fella!
Ben, All in good time mate!
Craig, I heard you pointed Edd in my direction so thanks for that!
W88rdy, The grey is a custom mix based on a U pol plastic bumper colour that Ive lacqeured over for a good long term finish. You have pm also.
Nick.
I really need a drivers roof gutter trim for mine but been told by my dealer they are NLS on several occasions now.

Passenger fits on the opposite side if you rotate it 180 degrees, i.e they're symmetrical about the middle :)

Really nice work m8. Just read this whole thread and I gotta say I'm in awe. Can't believe you sold that red 1 though it was stunning. Hopefully mine will look half as good as that. Looking sorry for itself at the moment completely stripped an no front end lol
Keep it up. Gonna keep an eye on this :d

Cheers shrtwrec and hutchy!
Update time then guys....... Ive been a little busy lately with work and other things but I have managed to sort a few things I wanted to do. First off being the wheels as I had agreed a deal with Joe Richardson for my allesios so I had to crack on with the mo's, Decide what colour they were definately going then get them stripped and rubbed ready for paint. I did a fair amount of research colour wise as you can see from the cards below! My choice in the end was to forget metallics and go solid colour. Due to the age of the car I thought this would be more fitting with its era etc.
Lots of choice.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip103.jpg?t=1256490999
Followed again by a few more test cards to know exactly what I was going to finish up with!.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip102.jpg?t=1256491067
With the colour sorted I dropped the wheels with my local tyre place to have them stripped ready for paint. As Rick had recently had them powdercoated they were in very good condition which made life very easy for me! The insides were rubbed down and painted.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip093.jpg?t=1256491341
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip094.jpg?t=1256491375
A few days after the outsides were rubbed down and prepared for paint.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip098.jpg?t=1256491461
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip104.jpg?t=1256491506
Outsides finished.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip099.jpg?t=1256491590
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip092.jpg?t=1256491633
Please ignore the colour you see here as it looks nothing like the above at all! My poor quality camera/skills! A few days after paint they were dropped back off at the tyre shop to have tyres refitted/balanced etc. Then I got them onto the car so Joe could take away the allesios. No full side shots as yet but heres a taster shot showing the colour I picked matches the original bumper colour rather well, You wouldnt believe thats the same colour as shown in the above pics!...........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip136.jpg?t=1256492192
With the wheels all finished my attentions turned to another task I wanted to sort being the cage and its colour. Ive never been a big fan of the red it currently is so I thought as the tax is about to run out anyhow this is as good a time as any to set about the task of removing it! The doors bars, upper fronts and front hoop were pretty simple to remove. I knew the rear half however would need the seats out. So I thought Id chance just removing the seats from the sidemounts to keep things simple hoping the rear half would clear them. Heres the Front half of cage removed and Seats out..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip119.jpg?t=1256492836
I then had the back wheels off and unbolted all the rear half. The missus then gave me a hand to carefully remove the rear half from the car. It was quite easy going to be honest! And cleared with the front seatframes in with no problems. Ive heard some say it is a pig of a job but I do have to get it back in without scratching it yet!
One cageless/seatless nova........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip126.jpg?t=1256493249
Unfortunatly for the missus the seats/harnesses have now found a new place to live. Our office/spare room!...........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip125.jpg?t=1256493401
And bits of cage are all over the garage!..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip128.jpg?t=1256493455
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip129.jpg?t=1256493484
Hopefully I'll have the time within the coming weeks to get it painted (It will be in the same colour as the wheels) Followed by getting it back into the car trying not to scratch anything!
Lastly for this eves was one item I didnt even know the car had! As it was mounted on the cage behind the B pillar hidden by the drivers seat! As soon as I saw it I started thinking!
Take one fire extinguisher.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip107.jpg?t=1256494518
Rub it down........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip108.jpg?t=1256494544
Masked and hung in the booth ready......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip109.jpg?t=1256494586
And the finished article..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip111.jpg?t=1256494628
One fire extinguisher in Vaux Mustard yellow! I think it will look great once the cage is grey! Thats all for this eves chaps hope you've enjoyed the read! :)

Benn....... we dont have any stands specifically just for wheels like the specialists use hence the two hits. The insides do get a little overspray when the outsides are painted but Ive never really worried about it as long as they look tidy and are the correct colour etc. The colour Ive chosen looks very different in the flesh both camera shots dont show the true colour tbh. Once the lower half of the car and both bumpers are painted in it there will be nothing else to compare it to on the car and Im sure it will look very fitting.
Nick.
Old 5L paint cans are almost the same size as the center of the wheel, what i always use..
Ah so its most the flash makes it looks odd, sure it will look awesome.

Sorry mate! I always try to thank everyone good or bad comments!
Cheers to Southie also! ;)
Love the wheels Nick, they really suit. Fire extinguisher looks sweet too!
Quality work there Nick, the colour coded wheels are looking top notch.
Did I read that you're planning to completely re-spray the car? Will look belting come the shows next year!
Look forward to the next update anyway :thumb:

Hey Nick, So that's a OMP cage then, as it's the same as mine from your pics.
Like the idea of painting it same as the wheels as I'm also not a fan of the red, it's just a clashing color with the yellow.
The wheels look spot on as well, good match to the bumpers etc, once it's all done it will look cracking mate, like the fire extinguisher job too, though i myself would of tried to keep the sticker with the info on.
Scott
Cheers Martin, Im sure yours is still looking well despite what you say!
Gunny, cheers pal!
Scott, Thanks I hope it will indeed look really well, I had no choice with the fire extinguisher as the details were printed on! I did think about getting a mate to copy and reproduce it in a sticky label but I just didnt get round to it tbh.
scott.parker
26-10-09, 05:36 PM
No worries mate, im sure you could alway look on the Internet to see if you can buy info thats correct for the extinguisher (thats if you really wanted too) Just something i would do if i was going to as much effort/detail as you do. :thumb:
"IF" you would, and i could get the car upto you, i would love you to re-spray the mk1 Jamaica, but there is no way i could afford what you would want to do it..
Scott
Don't need too much info off of it surely? long as you can remember what type it is and the discharge time, only time it would be an issue was if you tracked it and one of the marshalls went to grab it, which is unlikely on 2 counts, firstly it's unlikely to be on track and 2nd the marshalls tend to carry their own, much beefier extinguishers lol
Wow, envious of this build already Nick, wheels look fantastic!

28-10-09, 08:22 PM
oh good progress big farmer boy, loving the wheels
Cheers Matt! ;)
A little update again then guys, After removing the cage I set about rubbing it down to remove any flaws and getting it cleaned up ready for paint. I did have a few people telling me to go yellow! But I actually thought that would stand out more than the red! And being honest Id like it more subtle if anything so I opted for the same grey basecoat that I used on the wheels with the same satin/matt finish lacqeur too. I must say I thought preparing a cage would be pretty easy but I found it pretty painstaking tbh! And painting it was even worse.... trying to make sure you catch all sides/areas of circular bars isnt easy! Thursday after work I borrowed my missus's dads van filled it with cage and dropped them at work. The intention being to paint them after work the following day. Friday I finished the prep during my dinner hour and lined them up in the booth for paint after work. Here's some pics........
Cage/bars all prepared and hung up in the booth........

After a few hours work on saturday I brought it all home with the intention of re-fitting on the sunday but unfortunatly the weather was awful so I didnt bother. Hopefully I'll get it back in next weekend if I find the time. One last thing that Ive been considering is my options for the shell.... My initial intentions were to keep the standard sr look however Ive since been thinking twice about it! So I commisioned Mr Southie to do a photoshop using Karl Rowntree's car as it has the same wheels/trim mine has etc I thought this would give me a good idea of how it would look If the body was painted just one colour losing the grey bottom half etc. Here's how it looked for those who havent seen it already.........
http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p379/SOUTHIE01/shoppery/NICKJpsredtoyellow.jpg
Hope you dont mind Karl!! I do like how it looks Im just in two minds at the moment! The thing that I always loved about the sr was the simple look of a standard mustard yellow sr with a let as it really works. I think it adds to the simplicity/rareity keeping it in standard form. But I do however like the above as they always look cleaner/smoother painted all one colour. So please add your opinions they are always welcome no matter your view!
Thanks for reading.
Nick. :)
Cage looks well mate. Personally, i'd rather have an SR looking as standard trim as possible, i think its what makes the car, the above does look nice but if it was me, which its not lol, I'd go for the standard SR look.
And you've put all that effort in to get the right colour... lol
Im with Gunny, standard sr look ftw Nick.
Photoshop pic looks too bare.
I think the standard look with the let is what makes the car stand out.
Edd
If you wanted to do something a bit different, have you considered using a slightly different colour for the 'vinyl' bottom half (which I assume you would paint with your skills with a gun? :))
Much the same kind of dilemma with mine atm, as I'm not sure about the two toned sides, but at the same time it is what makes an SR an SR and there's a reason we all like them so much!

Cage looks spot on mate, wished I'd done mine before fitting.
I am also going to say keep it 1.3 SR as it is, as that is a big appeal to me, more then loosing the cars identity, if you do then it may as well have been just a 1.0 trip like mine was.

I do actually prefer the original look with all the decals and rub strips on but you could try without once it's had a fresh lick of paint, if you don't like then at least you can put the extras back on.

Cage looks great, 100 times better imho.
Thanks for comments guys and to Southie for photoshop! I wont be rushing the colour decision by any means... It'll be next year until anything happens with the shell anyhow. I am swayed to the standard look as said I think it makes the car and I have 99% brand new gm parts to achieve it but I must explore all avenues first etc. Thanks again for comments hopefully a little more of an update soon.

but id definatly keep the standar sr look imo nick. as its a standard sr would be a shame to change the originalty of it.

Standard for me too.
I think that if you done it as in the photoshop, which does look great btw, in time you'll want to fit skirts then before you know it you're building a mk1 version of your old car.
Make it mint like you've planned. Add your finishing touching and she's perfect mate.

me two im affraid you cant beat the look off a standard sr!! especially not in mustard yellow this is one off my fav cars couldent be made beter imo well unless fitted with a 1.3 lump lol but then thats my opinion!!
I would paint it like the photoshop, if you decide against it can fit the vinyls, would need painting anyway wouldnt it?
IMO will look better with the vinyl and bumpstrips, as long as it is actually vinyl. Painted on looks odd

Cheers for comments guys! It seems the photoshop is now catching up!! Indeed it would look as you've said above Adam. To be honest at this moment in time I think Standard look is where its at for me. Its what made me like the car to begin with. Plus I dont want to go down the same road/same ideas that I used on the last car really. I want to try be a little different If I can. :)
Nick.
^^ I totally agree Nick, I love the SR retro feel, if you go smoothing her off etc you may as well have just kept the red one.
Great work as ever.

A small update then guys to show you were I am currently at. After painting the cage I got a little side tracked due to work being busy mainly and other things going on that just left me no time to crack on with the car. But over the course of the past few wkends Ive slowly/carefully got the cage and seats bolted back into the car........
Rear half back in with bolts loosely in holes.....
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip165.jpg?t=1259872815
Then in went the front half and the door bars temporarily until seats went back in etc........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip163.jpg?t=1259872994
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip161.jpg?t=1259873044
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip166.jpg?t=1259873094
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip170.jpg?t=1259873131
I also came across a few bolt holes under the seats which looked like they were from previous buckets etc. So I got hold of some tiny neat rubber bungs to fill these up.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip171.jpg?t=1259873176
With the majority of the cage back in I then removed the door bars to get the seats/harnesses back in.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip173.jpg?t=1259873381
And here's how it looks from the rear.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip176.jpg?t=1259873483
Im currently having some transparent decals made up which will cover both door bars to avoid these getting scratched in the future. Similar idea to how quite a few motor manufacturers place around sill/wheelarch areas to prevent chipping etc. I thought these would look a lot simpler than large amounts of cage padding. Once theyve been made up I can stick them in position and get the door bars back in. But the cage is now 95% finished and Im really pleased with how it looks. Much more subtle than the red Im sure you'll agree. :) On another note I recently purchased myself another daily runner from James *(Count vaux) This was mainly due to the missus needing her car more on a daily basis and the fact I could get bugger all in it when I needed to!! (Streetka) I thought it would come in handy for collecting/ferrying nova parts etc if nothing else. Check out the Cav/calibra turbo rims lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/07-12-0886.jpg
I thought Id treat it to an uber slam and bought some 60/70mm springs from Adam but Id didnt have chance to fit them before Id had an offer I couldnt refuse...............
Following on from the previous page.....Basically one of my missus family members was after a bigger/cheaper car and quite fancied the astra. With a little bit of cash from myself plus the astra this is the new daily runner........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/DSC00259.jpg?t=1259874456
Some may have seen it at billing this year? It belonged to my missus younger brother who's slowly subtley added bits over the past few years he's owned it. I painted all the genuine gsi kit for it and colour coded the mouldings. It also has my old allesios and eagle f1's too which compliments the -60mm lowered suspension. Its only a 1.2 16v but who knows when the nova is finished it may see an xe which would finish it perfectly! It currently has a bit of a mis fire but I cant see it being much (with any luck!) Once thats sorted It'll be a nice daily for me. Ive already bought it some genuine morettes lol
Thats it for now guys but hopefully more soon when time allows. Thanks for reading.

Dont be gay, if it's track orientated it has to have them..
I have the OMP cage and the door bars piss the missis off she catches her tights on the cable tied padding lol
but i find the essayist way to get in the car is to reach in and hold the front cross bar, then lower your self in with your left leg first then just tuck your right in after.

Defiantly mate, i love the SR look IMO it's got more character and looks too it then a GTE dose, and i know what i will do to the 1.2L if/when the missis is board of it and moves on, as im sure by that time my track car will be long gone.

Unsure fella as I may be on my hols then. All depends on the missus and her chartered accountancy exam dates and If I have the car finished in time! Hopefully things will work out ok! Im sure I'll catch up with you at some point either way though. :)
Nick.
Update time then chaps! My first priority had to be corsa just before christmas due to its mot being due in early January. As said I bought it with a missfire so that needed sorting as apparantly It could cause the car to fail the emmissions test. I had one of our service tech guys plug it into his computer to see what it showed up etc. The offending problem was found to be the coilpack. That evening I sourced a new genuine coilpack from ebay and later got it on the car. And viola! No more missfire! Upon going for its mot it picked up a couple of minors but did indeed pass so Job was a good one! With that out of the way I thought Id treat it. A small scuff on the bottom of the passenger door and wheel arch spat was painted followed by a 3 stage full machine polish/detail finishing with paintwork sealant and a good wax! It took a fair few hours to do but the results are shown below........

Ive always liked the morrette headlights on corsa b's so as they were priced well I thought Id have them! One had a small piece broken were it mounts next to the grill so we had to fix that via some strong plastic glue but apart from that thay are in good order. Plastic welding would have been ideal but the morrettes are made from abs plastic which shrinks and makes a mess under heat so it wasnt really an option. Below shows repaired area glued....
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip189.jpg?t=1263049687

And finally painted and back together.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip219.jpg?t=1263050990
Im just waiting for a friend of mine (Autosparky) to drop by a wire them up. I do have the morrette indicators to but Ive heard the corsa boys have been wiring front indictors into there fogs housings for a cleaner look so I think that will be looked at before any attempt on cutting up the bumper.
Nick.
Nova wise Ive been on with buying some new parts and improving others. A new front grille and rear spoiler have been painted are are sat in the loft along with a set of mint interior cards and another full set of brand new body mouldings too. One thing I kept thinking about was that the interior/exterior had a yellow/grey theme but under the bonnet most parts were black so It tended to spoil the theme. So I set about changing this. I seem to have lost some pics recently  But here's some of what Ive been up to.......

Have to say your paintwork looks amazing again, and I just can't figure out why, don't see any special prep or fancy kind of paints or anything, just a clean room and I can only assume the amazing shine must be skill with a gun, but then most painters will pretty much say any monkey can use a gun it's all in the prep lol

My bailey header as well as the other servo from a few pages back have now gone grey too. The thermostat housing as well as a new heatshield will go grey too soon. I am considering painting the hard boost pipes too?? Unsure about this though.... There will still be black hoses, oil cap and bits and bats in black so that will break up the grey/yellow so hopefully it wont look overdone etc. As always let me know what you think! Hope you like.

Mk999... If I showed the hours I put into prep we'd be here all day! You get out what you put in really. Good prep gives good results although a clean spraybooth always helps! :)
Joe.... Even with all this snow the corsa ploughs on..... The chaps from work have been having a nightmare with their bmw's in all this snow we've had! lol

And thats exactly how I want it to look! Understated and Oem but with a twist, cleaner and done a little better if you understand where Im coming from. I keep thinking thats another part done etc. However then I think of something else to do! lol
Cheers James,Graeme,scott...... much appreciated.
Loved this car when it was at Billing last year, and you have made it better somehow!! Can't wait to see it this year!
Stunning stuff as always Nick, your eye for detail never fails!

Nice work dude, like all the painted bits. Pipes could look quite cool in grey, you'd need to do the water one too tho.

Aha, so it's the prep that gives results in this case too, just isn't something that shows up in pics I guess, certainly does in the results though! :d
Its all ways the prep that mean you get the best paint work and finish.
Cheers Adam,Benn,Nuds,John and amg ! :)
Paul, Yeah I quite fancy some chris astley black or maybe grey if they do them hose kit etc. We'll see what funds allow a little later in the year.
Simon, I think my minds made up fella tbh.... If I did that it would look like Karls and as much as I love the look of his I dont want to look identical to it if you understand what Im saying.

As much as I'd love you to keep the vinyls off and sell them to me I think it would spoil the car, a big part of it's appeal (for me anyway) is that it looks so much like a standard SR........

I know exactly what your saying fella..... I just felt it would be a good idea to explore all options before painting the car which is what the photoshop was all about. The almost standard sr look on the exterior is what appealed to me hence why I bought it. Upon seeing the car in total vauxhall last month I know Ive made the right decision as I thought it looked great. Apart from the compomotives being the obvious change it will remain in its standard guise ( whilst I own in anyhow!) :)
Nick.
Good to hear that you have finally decided to keep it standard looking on the exterior.

Great car Nick, as I've said many times before. I read the feature in the mag and thought the car looked great. I've allways prefered mk2, but got to say that this car is making me think of doing my own project as a mk1 now!! Really like your thread Nick allways makes for a good read. Will definatly make the effort this year to come to billing as I've never been before and would be great to have a good look around it.

love the nova nick, keep up the good work
Little update then guys.... I dropped by to see my autosparky recently to have the morrettes wired up for the corsa. All went well apart from we found both bulbs were blown on the inner lamps :( I should have checked before hand but they arent needed really as all your main beam/side lights and dip are all on the outers. I could source some new bulbs but I quite fancy removing the inner lamps and using some black mesh on the hole etc? I also keep thinking it could do with some -80mm springs on the rear and gm mudflaps all round to perfect it from a looks point of view but Im undecided as yet. But being honest Id rather spend the money on the nova! Anyhow here's how its looking now, hope you like...........

Hi all, Update time! Ive been very busy over the last month or so with numerous bits and pieces. So I thought it was about time I updated this thread. First up was bumper removal as I wanted to smooth ( remove textured plastic finish) and paint them in the same colour and same finish type as cage/wheels etc. I hate removing panels etc as you never know what you may find etc! But Im pleased to say I found no issuses and here's how the behind bumper areas looked after a degreasing session...........
Front....
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip273.jpg?t=1266261106
And rear panel...............
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip327.jpg?t=1266261297
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip328.jpg?t=1266261333
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip329.jpg?t=1266261357
Once I got the bumpers to work the pinstripes were removed and I got them ready for primer. I opted to use a dark grey primer with glossing agent. So If and when the paint chips the topcoat off it would be very difficult to notice chips at all due to primer colour. The glossing agent helps shows up anything and everything imperfection wise. Here's a shot of the bumpers primed........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip246.jpg?t=1266261713
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip295.jpg?t=1266262080
Unfortunatly the rear bumper reacted like hell! I can only put it down to possibly the use of bumper gel or similar over the years. I did degrease it well but it didnt stop what caused a good 4 hour setback! By the next day it was looking like this with all primer removed!.................
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip259.jpg?t=1266262339
The front bumper was however ok so I got that rubbed down and all stopper'd up........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip256.jpg?t=1266262843
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip257.jpg?t=1266262863
The rear bumper was then baked at high temp to allow it to sweat and remove any release agent or contamination. Once it was thoroughly degreased again I used a 2k plastic primer and guide coat......

15-02-10, 07:48 PM
sweet, will you paint my car lol
Good work Nick, that primer is shinier than my car! lol
After the rear bumper was then rubbed down it was re-primed with the grey primer gear as per the front.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip255.jpg?t=1266263311
Due to the bumpers being quite heavily textured especially the rear it takes a fair amount of primer to achieve a smooth finish etc. But I was determined to get them perfect! The grill was also rubbed down and imperfections filled. Then drop glass seperators, rear no plate light and one or to other parts were prepared ready for paint..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip302.jpg?t=1266263660
Id like to thank Matt for repairing this for me as Ive wanted one for a while and the only one I could find was quite substantially cracked across two of the bolt holes from overtightening. But after he had welded up and dressed it you could hardly tell apart from a few grind marks etc........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip288.jpg?t=1266263764
I prepared it for primer and used an acid etch followed by a high temp primer......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip293.jpg?t=1266264025
Once all primed parts were rubbed down I had a spraybooth full of parts ready to go and here's how they finished up all silky smooth with no texture remaining with a semi matt finish...........

Your a Tart Nick!
Stunning as always Nick, well done....
Awesome work, good details. Glad you paint the metal bit of the window runner. So many people for get them and thy can look poo. I've never seen any one else having painted them bar me.
Next up was some trim and vinyl removal which I knew would be a pain but Id rather spend the hours at home doing it than at work to be honest. Its taken a hell of a lot of time to carefully remove it without chipping or scratching the paintwork but it will save me time in the long run. So.......
Rear spoiler off and glue removed..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip282.jpg?t=1266265964
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip281.jpg?t=1266265998
Then mouldings were carefully heated up and removed........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip242.jpg?t=1266266046
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip243.jpg?t=1266266089
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip241.jpg?t=1266266118
With original vinyls exposed I then carefully removed all the glue to leave it like this.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip283-1.jpg?t=1266266182
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip276-1.jpg?t=1266266256
Since then the beady eye'd amongst you will have seen Ive also removed the quarter/sill vinyls along with the higher tailgate one and the main section of the pillar vinyl. However I cant seem to find pics of that at the moment! With the rear bumper home I slotted it back onto the car to see how it looked being the same colour/finish as the wheels etc.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip330.jpg?t=1266267247
A little pressy from the mrs gave me some more inspiration ..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip333.jpg?t=1266267331
So I went back into the garage and removed the front wings to find the inner wings/splashguards and headlight panels all in mint condition.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip340.jpg?t=1266267412
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip339.jpg?t=1266267523
Although I knew it was a good shell to begin with the more I remove the happier I am with it as I havent had a nasty surprises touch wood! The front wings are now at work ready for the lips rolling over. With the allesios having needed 4mm spacers to clear the reyland 4 pots they did occasionally rub on the front wing lip and chipped a little of the paint off the inside of the wing. Today I just sanded back these areas to make sure there was no rust and etch primed and painted the small area on the inside of both wings so when the lips are rolled over the two surfaces that meet are both painted before being sealed together etc........

At this moment in time.... 100% yes as I want to keep the standardish look plus Ive got all brand new genuine vinyls/mouldings too. Would be a shame to not use them. However the car does look good in the back end shot with no vinyl??? lol
Cheers all for comments! Im glad you like what Im doing with it.

Amazing as always Nick! Truely a joy to view, even from behind a computer screen!
I love the way you went all out to come up with the correct bumper plastic collour and have apllied it to the wheels etc too.
This is going to be stunning - I'll stick my neck out and say better looking and more original than your previous mk2. I doubt the standard of work can improve though! :)

Looking really sweet mate, and im glad your going vinyl and bump strips, as i think it would ruin the standard look the car had from the out side, if you take them away it may as well just have been another 995cc look'a'like SR.
Keep the good work coming mate, cant wait to see it at billing, will you be with us this year, or JOV again??

great work as per usual nick
ive got a little question for you, just wondering what radiator you are using in your car so that you can run intercooler pipes either side of the radiator ?
or is it a standard nova gsi rad moved over so that the intercooler pipes can be run either side of the radiator ?
if it is the case that has been moved over do you know what water pipe it is that has been used from the stat housing to the radiator
im just wanting to know as im looking at options of what intercooler and radiator to run on the car im building so i can run early small bumper and not have to cut front panel
any help you give would be great cheers alan

Cheers Alan....... Im pretty sure it is a gsi radiator that has been moved forward slightly like in the majority of c20let conversions etc. As you can see the front panel has been trimmed at either end as well as being cut boxed and recessed for the intercooler which is a pace item. Unsure on the top rad hose though...... Id say to pm shaun larnder or simps on here as Im sure they will be able to clue you in more than I can tbh. Hope this helps.
Scott..... cheers, If all is well and the cars finished then I am down to go with jov to billing. I would however like to show with png also this year at some stage too. :)
Paul....... cheers pal!
More updates to follow tommorow!
Nick.
Looking good so far Nick, im glad you said youre going to refit vinyl otherwise i would have to come round and slap you silly lol
Seriously though, the original look makes the car and i for one would be disheartened if you left it without!
Cheers Spud!
small update this eves then guys. With a little help from one of our panel guys the front arch lips were carefully rolled over yesterday after work. Just like the last set we did for the red one I didnt want any filler in them. A good few coats of high build primer and a block level and I know they will be perfect and retain the panel strength etc. The lips are completely flushed across the majority of the arch tapering off at either side for a standard look.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip345.jpg?t=1266430196
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip346.jpg?t=1266430234
With both wing lips rolled I then dressed both inside and outside of the areas where the lips had been rolled and spent a while sanding the outers so any imperfections were removed before they are primed........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip350.jpg?t=1266430635
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip351.jpg?t=1266430664
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip352.jpg?t=1266430683
You can see the taper at either end pretty well from this angle.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip349.jpg?t=1266430748
Lastly the insides were re etch primed and neatly sealed up and left to dry..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip354.jpg?t=1266430861
The part at either end of the taper has been filled full of sealer so theres no way for moisture to get in.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip356.jpg?t=1266430912
Once the sealer is dry they will be primed and the insides will have a coat of overpaintable stonegaurd on them. I also found the previous shots that I had mislaid of part vinyl removal. Main pillar vinyl off and cleaned up on both sides. Can you see the colour difference of the post to the quarter? The post will be original so I will be using this to colour match from for the best possible match........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip364.jpg?t=1266431308
Sills and lower quarters also show excellent condition behind the vinyl.................

Nicely coming together Nick, I do enjoy your updates they're inspiring but also very annoying as I know I don't have the patience and storage to accomplish such greatness :)

Cheers fella...... Im a little limited myself space wise Hence why sometimes parts end up in our spare room/office or loft! Much to the missus amusement lol
Cheers Keith! Im unsure on the plug cover at the mo but I have the other with polished lettering too so I can swap if needs be.
Nick.
Plug cover with polished letters would look nicer IMO
Always thought flat/plain plug covers looked a tad boring in the bay.

Thats the thing though Ad........ Boring does equal subtlety most of the time which is how I want this to be. No bling this time round!
Sr Jack........ cheers!
Nick.
Ok mate, fair do's.
Just think that it will make the bay look a bit more interesting without the plain plug cover.
Only my opinion though obviously :)
Weren't you toying with doing the boost pipe Nick? Imo would look a lot better in the new blue/grey, just checked back with the feature and I'm impressed with the work you've done in such a short time

Cheers Graeme, If Id have sat on it I wouldnt have it done for this year hence why I started almost straightaway. I am considering doing the hard boost pipework and the thermostat housing too in the same grey. Then once the servo and bailey tank which Ive done grey too are fitted everything will come together nice and subtle think. Or Im hoping anyway!! lol

Yeah, i couldnt believe how clean it was when i went to pick it up, the lad that i got it off was a valeter, and polised it every weekend, even in some place (around door handles) he had polished down to the primmer.

Thanks to Matt and Joe too.... Update on route this eves! :)

Hi guys, A little update then........ Ive been busy all week with the wings. Once the sealer was dry I got the wings into high build primer and guide coated them. These were then left for a couple of days to allow for any movement in the primer etc. I then blocked them down to get them uber level.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip367.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip365.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip371.jpg
Once I was happy they were completely level I then used a overpaintable stoneguard on the insides of both wings........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip375.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip374.jpg
The good thing about the gear I applied above is that its removable via solvet degreaser so once applied if it get anywhere you dont want you can simply wipe it off even when dry. Obviously once painted over it gives an excellent rubbery protective layer should any paint be chipped etc hence why it was used on the wheel arch edges too........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip379.jpg
Then for uber amounts of mustard yellow base followed by a few coats of clear..........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip382.jpg
The insides got the same treatment...........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip386.jpg
I'll swap you for my pair lol Looks top notch :thumb:
Yeah baby!
Respray here we come!
Some will have seen my grill in the background? I chose to re-paint the grill due to a couple of unwanted imperfections. The no plate light also was a little bobbley still too due to it being so heavily textured so that was done again too..........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip377.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip376.jpg
That was it for friday night but I was in work this morning to finish the wings off by painting the lower halfs in grey. The same colour and finish (semi matt) that was used on wheels/cage/bumpers etc.
Rubbed down and masked up........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip387.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip388.jpg
I wanted to replicate the original vinyls so Ive taken the grey around the back edges of the wings slightly like so.......
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip389.jpg
The lower halfs were then painted and the fine line tape removed straightaway to ensure uber clean lines.........
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip389.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip392.jpg
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip393.jpg
I then demasked them completely as I didnt want the masking bag to make the yellow paintwork sweat as they were only painted the evening before. Here's the finished articles......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k27/nj_photo/novaturbowip394.jpg

Thats it for now hopefully next week will see them fitted etc. Thanks for reading.
Nick.
Posted a tad soon I guess lol The grey paint looks awesome, and possibly much easier/cheaper even than messing with vinyl! Especially if you're trying to match the original colour, I like the texture on it too, factory with a slight twist/shine :d
