He works there now? Wish I knew that!! lol

Well, turbo arrived back on friday, and i've got it re-fitted. I also refitted all the joins on my exhaust and have changed all the clips on the boost pipes to much stronger ones.

Did universal rebuild your turbo Keith or was it an exchange? The reason I ask is I have modified my inlet the same as yours and obviously I want to keep that and don't want a standard one if it is exchange

Would think the inlet wouldnt come in the deal on a exchange, as they'd just want the turbo.

Graeme

Cheers Benn thats what I was hoping if I sent mine to them without one they would return it how I sent it

I took off the inlet and exhaust side and just sent the turbo and manifold. They sent back the same turbo just all refurbed!

Today I got the intercooler, radiator, boost and water pipes fitted, filled with coolant, oil, primed the turbo and got it running today. Also built the grill/bumper/lights etc back in, so its finally fully back together! Good times!

krobinson
09-08-09, 07:36 PM
Just for about 1 mile, it's raining now and i've still got to clean the rest of it.

I'll take it really easy for a while to ensure this turbo lasts.

Benn
09-08-09, 07:42 PM

krobinson
15-08-09, 03:22 PM
Yeah Phase 2. Feels great to finally have full power. I had it running on a closed loop before with no overboost, holding about 11/12 psi. Now i've got overboost with it settleing around 15psi.

It's now properly rapid!

Had the Nova down with Steven last night for a quick power run, to check fueling etc.

I havent messed with the boost pressure since getting the turbo back, so it's set at the standard position.

We did one run, please ignore the "blip" at the start, Overboost kicked in really strong so he hesitated before planting it again lol.

BHP/Torque with Boost pressue in bar
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/scan0002.jpg

As you'll see, its running very very well, fueling is perfect, and it's made a superb figure for 0.8bar.

I'll be back early next year to play with the actuator.

No chance on phase 2 and a KKK turbo.

Good results though all the same Keith.

The KKK turbo is done by about 290-300hp....

Good results though Keith, cracking torque!!!

Cheers guys.

Its EDS phase 2
Regal tophat enlarged to 60mm
Hybrid KKK
Large intercooler
Silicone boost pipes

So fairly standard, i'm happy with the power at the mo, will play with the boost next year, see if I can get it to hold 1 bar.

Bet thats a nice feeling seeing that when you open the garage! So no more use till next year now?

MOT and Tax ran out, no point paying to Tax it over the winter as it will see very little use.

Would drive me crazy not being able to drive it..

LOL, it's not too bad, I've an SRI cavalier, 1.4 Nova (the GTE kitted one) and my girl's 1.3 CDTI corsa C to drive so I wont miss it much.

Keith not sure if its been said already, but cant storing it with the bonnet up twist the bonnet out of align? unless you are using gas struts?

I stored it last year with the bonnet up for 7-8 months and it was fine. It's stored like that because the connectors to the battery get knocked off when I lower the bonnet.

Cheers :)

The bonnet touches the battery terminals ?

The bonnet touches the battery terminals ?

think he means he is using a trickle charger for the battery to keep it charged

krobinson
11-10-09, 06:57 PM
Yip, carcoon has a trickle charger, which then runs the carcoon if there is an electric cut.

gunny
11-10-09, 07:06 PM
How much was the carcoon Kieth just out of interest?

If you dont mind me asking.

krobinson
11-10-09, 07:18 PM
www.carcoon.co.uk

It's a size 3 which is about £380 delivered.

There's a cheaper american brand on ebay which is about £280, but it doesnt have a trickle charger.

gunny
11-10-09, 07:46 PM
No too cheap then but well worth it, nice to see you're looking after it well, not that i expected any less lol

Ben
11-10-09, 08:15 PM
tbh in the grand scheme of the build cost its about the same as a set of tyres!

gunny
11-10-09, 08:16 PM
Oh yeah for how much the build must of cost its a small price to keep the car clean, dry and out of the elements over the winter months

Well, To be honest Ive never had any dealings with the guy until a couple of months back so I cant comment. I do know however that the owners of the cars included were contacted before hand. Me and Keith were gutted we missed the chance to have our cars on the png calender this year so we were just pleased they had the chance to potentially make it onto another and Im sure I can speak for everyone when I say... Its nice to have your car on a calender regardless of where it comes from! So Please lets not add anymore comments that arent needed on Keith's thread guys.

they're crap to drive in anything other than dry weather.

You are so tempted to boot it, but cant because it will sheelspin.

Infact thinking about it, all Nova's are crap to drive full stop lol

Actually Paul, the heaters in both my Novas is fantastic, heats up in a matter of minutes!

But yeah, no point driving them in the winter, I was out a run in my friends 330bhp RS focus mk1 a month back, roads were crap and he just couldnt put the power down at all.

Weathers promising today! Nice and dry with no frost! woot!

I've just ordered a new foam air filter due to the existing one rubbing on the bonnet and causing an upward dent. So once that arrives i'll get dent master out to fix that. (anyone wanting the old filter, PM me)

Hopefully going to book into Steven Gault for another Powerun as i've adjusted the actuator to hold 13/14psi now (held 11psi before and made 260bhp), so it'll be interesting to see what it makes next time round.

Here's a few photo's my Mrs took at the Eglinton Classic show last weekend:

krobinson
14-08-10, 02:24 PM
It's not easy to be different with a Nova, my old shell is a rallycar, so I wouldnt mind in the slightest if a simaliar car was built.

This Nova turbo is almost identical in looks, bar the bootlid and wing mirrors and a few other minor details. It's the Colour that set it apart!

It's tucked away in the Carcoon, when the weathers better i'm going to change the inner shaft on the equal length setup and hope that cures it! :thumb:

22-04-11, 02:02 PM
Well, the sun is out and it's time to sort the Nova for this year.

Firstly the turbo smokes on idle (again), so it's being removed and sent for another refurb .

Secondly, I had traced the steering vibration to the equal length c.v. Due to a worn dummy shaft. I replaced it with a normal big block long shaft, but it's turned out to be totally bent! I'm now waiting on a new shaft from LMF.

Going to strip the front end tonight, I'll do a little cleaning while I'm at it.

Will update with photos when I can (hard at the mo as I'm waiting for broadband to be installed)
