Have you put it back in the bubble ?

The material was delayed but arrived in August. So yeah its taken 6 months so far Ben, not impressed at all.

Got an excellent trimmers just round the corner from me if the guy you are using doesnt come up with the goods. He has done some work for me before which has been excellent and used to do a lot for the BMW dealer I work for back in the day.

What alarm did you go for Keith?

krobinson
22-02-09, 03:03 PM
Well thats the Alarm now fitted, it's great to now be able to Lock the car, and the alarm chirps whenever someone walks passed it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/100_5470.jpg

Also fitted my boot release and fitted the trim.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/100_5472.jpg

And a few shots of the car outside the bubble. It was raining or i'd have taken it up to the road.

It's just a Nova meet mate, we usually hold it every year and get around 20-25 Novas, which is quite good!

It's on easter monday, check the Northern Ireland section.

Yeah, my camera is really bad in dull light, but yeah they look really classy in the flesh, very please with them. All blue stitching as well which is perfect. They are originally SR seats, rear's are out of a Nova L, the enthusiast will notice the different shape to the blue.

If anyone had black plastics in mint condition give me a shout.

Them pics dont do the interior justice as it looks so much better in the flesh!

Got my first run in the car 2day. Its so so quick, once the turbo spools up its all go go go. It holds the road really well and in the dry I was supprised how much grip it actully has. Considering Keiths done most of the work himself this car is really well put together, No Rattles or bangs everything is sweet as a nut!!!

Enjoy!!

vauxhall semi synthetic 10w 40.
£20 for 5 litres, cant go wrong.

Edit, didnt even read the answers above, lol

That looks as though its got the nod seeing as us 3 know what were talking about lol

krobinson
09-03-09, 09:17 PM
What about fully Synthetic? Any pro's/con's to using that?

Ben
09-03-09, 09:35 PM
fully synthetic is too thin really and due to not being good idea to mix it with normal if your out and about and need some quicklycan be a bit iffy!

But in all honesty its not needed on an engine like that.

Paul-£20 for 5 litres!!! What happened to th £20 for 4 gallons deal?

Better off with cheaper oil changes more often than one expensive once a year.

thats fantastic keith, the pro photos really show the quality in the paint.

also, im not usually one for the wee details but i really like the yellow stay housing on the bonnet, looks very modern!

krobinson
14-03-09, 02:42 PM
The yellow stay housing is the only one avaliable new from vauxhall, I've got a spare 4 if anyone wants one lol.

Well folks, it's time for Phase 2.

With the Hybrid turbo, the boost keeps spikeing over 10psi, which causes the ECU to cut the fuel (safety feature)

So it's time to fit the EDS Phase 2 chips! I've just fitted the spark plugs and 3.5 bar FPR. But I couldnt get the ECU boards to seperate so i've left it with Steven Gault, he's also not been able to get the boards to seperate too but hopefully he'll figure out a way, others usually come apart quite easily!!

Once i've the ECU back, i'm doing the car's first oil change, then it's off to the rollers to properly set up the actuator and see what it makes.

Update time:

The Harry hockley mounts were no good, didnt fit my F28 side (due to the bush being too wide)

So I ordered an SBD small altenator and fitting kit. However it actually sit's too low and still touches the leg. This is because its designed to sit low to give clearance for carbs or tb's.

So my engineer friend is making a plate out of 3mm steel plate, and this will allow me to raise the altenator up and give plenty of clearance. Hopefully i'll get that tonight and fit it all up. I just pray that this fixes it!

I'll know next time to have the cut-out further back lol.

Simps - here it is, it's actually bigger than it needs to be, but too far forward.

If i'd made the rear part 3mm further back I wouldnt have a single problem. Standard altenator was sitting about 3mm from it and just touching under hard boost.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/100_2136.jpg

Maurice - if everything go's to plan with the mod's i'm making to the SBD bracket then yeah! I'll be there! Pray for me lol.

It's quite fortunate Keith how you have been able to iron out the small problems & niggles in time for the show season. If it was nearing completion now you would have all this to come with not much time before the shows etc if things dont go to plan.

It's one thing getting a car, show ready for a deadline but having it perfectly finished & unrushed makes much more sense. What difference a year makes.

Its near on perfect now, just picked up some RST spark plugs as it was misfireing on boost on the old plugs.

Changing the oil, and then it's off to get a power figure from it. I must say though, it's so much fun to drive, best fun you can have with your clothes on for sure!

I'm not sure, there's I had a suspect noise so went to remove the shaft and the inner c.v. joint's insides fell out. Nothing looked broken, but hopefully thats what it was.

Autovaux let me know today that it'll be ages before they can get me one, so off to the motorfactors tomorrow to get one hopefully.

I've finally solved a boost cut problem, and the car is now providing a solid 13/14psi on a closed loop.

Going to invest in a good boost controller, Apexi or something along those lines, then should be able to hold 18psi+.

Also got some Alpine Type-R components, some cool door builds made and an alpine headunit. Once I get the door pods back from being flocked i'll put up some new photos!

Keith

craig green
30-05-09, 07:07 PM
What solved it keith?

Btw who did you get your sparkplugs from?

krobinson
30-05-09, 07:12 PM
Got the plugs on ebay, genuine ford RST's.

I've just put a tempory closed loop on the turbo to remove the control of the amal valve. So it could be amal valve or chipset problem. But now it holds 13/14psi right to the redline in every gear. Doesnt cut or hesitate etc.

Waiting on some further advice, but rather than spending money on a new amal i'll just remove it and go with an Apexi.

craig green
30-05-09, 07:20 PM
Seems a good option Apexi, I hate the look of them, (up there with pillar gauge pods), but they are good for what they do.

Got a link to seller of the plugs by chance?

Good news keith!

The Simps
30-05-09, 08:00 PM
The only reason I prefered to leave my amal in place is because its a fail safe. Because its linked to the ecu if a problem is detected it can rain in the boost and potentially save your engine.

krobinson
30-05-09, 08:34 PM
True Simps. I'm awaiting on a reply from David @ V-tuning who supplied the chips, see what he suggests.

I have just put an Apexi AVCR on mine - still getting to grips with setting it up correctly 3 weeks later lol lol lol

If you get one have a look at my WIP thread as it shows you how to install these on the Vauxhall engines and which wires to connect to.

Glad you have narrowed it down - gives me sleepless nights when things like this happen!

Awesome project Keith, the cars fapping stunning! A real credit to your self.
Im sorry if i have missed them, but do you have any pictures of your equal legnth driveshaft?
A mate of mine has just fitted one onto his LET corsa and he said it makes the world of diffrence. His fitted straight on with no modding but i believe it does on a nova as a nova is slightly narrower than a corsa.
Cheers Ben.

dan16v
06-06-09, 09:38 PM
Keith, you can hide an apexi away to the right of the steering cowling (ledge above the fuse box), imo it looks tidy there.
When i had the car mapped i was told to leave the apexi in manual mode as they are pish and wonder all over the place, im sure Rick was told the same.

krobinson
07-06-09, 11:44 AM
Cheers Dan. I've the car back on a closed loop as a new amal didnt solve the huge overboost problem.

I'm going to try a different ECU next, and if that doesnt solve it then i'll get a Greddy pro b spec II. It's still ****ing awesome at 13psi though!!

krobinson
11-06-09, 09:56 PM
Not updated this in ages.

I've been sorting out all the niggles before Billing and my Ring trip, and getting some creature comforts.

The oil feed pipe was leaking like a bitch, thought it was sump gasket etc etc, as one little drop of oil gets everywhere and always fools you into thinking it's coming from somewhere else. So I got a nice new one made and fitted that. Also put some dowty washers on all the seals. Good times!

Also bought an alpine ipod/iphone cd player, some alpine type R components, and commissioned my friend Steven McLaughlin (master of fiberglass) to make some door pods. I then sent them to Autoflock to be flocked (awesome job and service, highly recommended)

Finally I've fitted my wideband lambda sensor and gauge.

Nope, I like the larger one. I use the car quite a bit and the larger capacity comes in handy.

Nice! Take it the gp bits shorter?

It's the F1 circuit, not sure how long it is, maybe 2 miles?

... runs off to google it....

Oh, wiki says its 3.2 miles long! Cool!

GP Circuit was 30 euro for a 20 minute track session. Its only open roughly 12 dates in a year though, so its very hard to get on it!

Whats up with the turbo Keith? Is it smoking? TBH its a nightmare sorting out KKK's as exhaust wheels are hard to find that are not worn.

Yeah Rick, started smoking if I let it Idle for around 1 minute, I'm sorting out some other bits and bobs so just doing it all at the same time. I'd upgrade the turbo but have no space with the rad/cooler.

Sending the turbo away tomorrow, should only take a few days, meanwhile i'll give the bay a good clean/polish/wax as the ring trip has left it mingin!
