None yet, going to call again tomorrow, hopefully I'll have it the first week in august.

Well folks, I'm pleased to announce I have sorted the Idle problem. It turned out to be a broken wire to the TPS sensor which was making it idle high.
I've now run a new wire neatly to the ECU and hey presto the ECU light went out and its idleing fine.

Huge thanks to Ben for the wireing diagrams and help last night, without him i'd still be headscratching!

Just need to put the finishing touches down this week and then book MOT :)
I'll do another video maybe tomorrow after work of it idleing fine :)

Cool.

Out of interest, which wire was it? The ground?

krobinson
31-07-08, 06:10 PM
Cool.

Out of interest, which wire was it? The ground?

The ground and the brown and blue are shared with other parts, So I thought it had to be the green and brown, and indeed it was. Not sure where it's broke, so I just ran a fresh wire and it solved the problem :)

Got some insurance quotes, Greenlight won't cover the car, and some tit Darren (he's absolutely useless) said he didnt know why.

Adrian Flux came in best with:
- £587, market value for the car, and all mod's replaced.
or
- £800, Agreed value.

I'm going to run with the agreed value policy as soon as I can afford it.

Keith

Adam
31-07-08, 06:14 PM
Tried HIC?
They beat Flux by £120 for me.
And how come its £200 more for agreed value?

HIC just send out a agreed value form which you fill in and return with pics etc, and then they agree a value with you. It costs £15 on top of the normal quote price....

krobinson
31-07-08, 06:17 PM
Flux only have one company that cover's Northern Ireland and thats Highway, so they've had to put me on one of there classic policys with another firm with agreed value.

Greenlight also use highway and said they couldnt cover it.

I dont think HIC cover NI :(

Keith

Adam
31-07-08, 06:18 PM
Ahhh, totally forgot you were in NI.
Fair do's id go with that then.

Im with Highway through HIC

Bad news is the Interior wont be ready until late August.

Is only a few more weeks mate, will only take half an hour to fit when it does turn up, by the time you have sorted the list you should be just about ready when it comes.

bummer about the interior keith...but sure its not that long to wait.

it'll give you enough time to sort out any other we things.

quote
"Remove rear discs to adjust handbrake cable"

ya dont need to remove the discs m8..................ya can adjust them by putting the larger hole in the disc/hub at the bottom.

and adjust it with a screwdriver#.

a wee torch is handy on this occasion

No Major update yet,

I've got some nice plated battery terminals fitted, makes that area look much neater. I've also replaced all the bulbs in the dash, now everything lights up as it should!! I've got a brand new hazard switch fitted, i'm going to try and never touch it so it doesnt break!! I've the anti-roll bar fitted to the front, and the rear ready for fitting, but i'm feeling **** after a large meal with work so i'll leave it till tomorrow/weekend.

I had the car out for a little mile drive, and it's flipping awesome, it's so sharp on the throttle, I just kept swearing with a huge grin on my face, and thats hardly touching the throttle, I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I get to really drive it properly.

I found it seriously hard to keep it off boost (running engine in) The hybrid turbo seems to be producing more boost than the ECU wants so it's thrown up a "max boost" fault, but this will be cured by adjusting the actuator and later by fitting Phase chips.

I called off with my Interior trimmer who said he'll have the rear seats sorted within a week, and the fronts soon after, so once they are back i'll get it MOT'd.

Keith

Needed a boost gauge, couldnt really find anything that wasnt too Fast and Furious or glow in the dark, then I stubled across this Old skool cool Courtenay Turbo gauge. It's new but most likely old stock as it was fairly dusty inside its box (which also looks old lol)

I removed the clock and enlarged a hole big enough for it to fit in snuggly.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/000_0160.jpg

It looked piss on it's own, but once fitted, it looks like it should be there and matches the clocks perfectly.

krobinson

Its a shame that you couldnt fit it behind the original clock but think the gauge would be to big.
Sweet build tho.

Welsh Dan
16-08-08, 12:05 AM
I'm with stuarty on this one, it doesnt fit with the attention to detail on the rest of the car. You could fibreglass the clock surround to be a flat face, holesaw a hole in it for the dial to sit flush, then spray/flock it.

On the whole though the car looks great.

It lets the side down at the minute mate, looks like it's waiting to be finished.

You should hear the turbo spin of this thing, its unreal and crying out for a Dump valve, Not long to go now till she's moted and road legal!
Love the guage, id keep it were it is also but try and make it look a little 'more at home' You know my meaning!!

krobinson
16-08-08, 05:35 PM
I've got a few things finished today. I adjusted the rear shoes and now the handbrake is perfect. I've also fitted the proper vauxhall metal fuel filter, sunvisors etc. The list is getting smaller!!

- Source and fit door switches
- Source and fit front Indicator bulbs
- Source and fit grommets in door cards
- Mount ECU behind Dash
- Source spare wheel and fit with tool kit
- Connect wiring to rear number plate light
- Finish hoseing to wash/wipe
- Trim front drives so I can fit the centercaps

I know what your saying, but I cant see anything wrong with how mine is fitted, if you saw it in the flesh you wouldnt touch it. Maybe the flash of the camera makes it looks wrong?

I'm not sure, but I think it looks like it should be there. I'd have to flock it to get the same finish after filling it in, I dont have a flocking kit, and i'm not having any dealings with another outside company for a long time because they are all useless.

If anything flushing in yours looks out of place, I'd have just fitted some SR/GSI clocks if you wanted a rev counter.

Don't worry its only a suggestion Keith, I'm not trying to run your car down.

The rev counter? All about different opinions, I decided I'd work with what I have, and create something a little different using a spare vent sorround. I reckon it looks ok once fitted.

Well, I got bored tonight and finished off a few other small areas.

Changes you'll see since last photos are the centercaps all on, and mudflaps all on, all lights fully working. However lots of background work has gone into the likes of the handbrake, fuel filter, adjustment to drives etc. Just wish the car was fully legal so I could take it a proper run. All in good time!!

Well, bad news is, the Interior isnt ready and still wont be for a few weeks.

Good news is, I just setup the Insurance today with Adrian Flux. And I've booked an MOT for 7th October, but will hopefully get a cancellation for next week.

I'm going to fit another interior to put some miles on it whilst the weather permits.

Unfortunatly I cannot tax it until Monday, so I wont be able to start driving it around till then.

Got my new sparco steering wheel fitted today as well, looks very well:

Then took it to get petrol, then down to the MOT station, where she passed with flying colours. Just need tax on monday and some good weather.

Must say, she is awesome to drive, sits at 40mph in 6th gear no probs, torque just pulls and pulls. Cant wait to properly give it some.

Thanks folks, much appreciated!!

Got the car taxed today, they were kicking up a fuss about changing the engine size on the tax book, they were looking for engineer's reports etc, but they eventually let it go and just changed the CC after talking to head office. So it's now 1998cc on the tax book, and fully legal.

Woohoo!

New C.V. joint came today and the problem came back, the wheel was vibrating under load and it was pulling to one side. This totally baffled me, but a quick call to Jonboy suggested the brakes.

Had a look round, and the offending side's brake was nearly on fire it was so hot!! Turns out i'd adjusted the brakes so much at the pedal that they were always on a little and that side had binded and almost locked up.

Adjusted it back and its superb now. Cheers Jonboy!!

I've done 150 miles now without any other problems, there's a tiny tiny sump leak but i'd probably be worried if it didnt.

It a mint feeling isnt it when somethings wrong/broken or just not right and you find out its something really really silly that takes seconds to sort and fixes it completely!

And as for the leak i see your thinking, if nothing was making a noise or dripping then you would be nervously waiting for something to happen whereas aslong as you know about at least one niggly little thing then all seems right in the world, the joys of owning a nova arent they haha!

As said previously bud i am in awe of your commitment and courage in completing this car in the face of all of the set-backs and problems youve had along the way, well done and i hope she puts a massive smile on your face everytime you turn the key:thumb:

It's inflated and powered by 2 small fans, costs about a tenner a year to run.

Cheap car covers aren't breathable and can store moisture, not what Keith wants having spent £££££'s on his car

The treatment my shell got is the same as Nova's got from the Factory. All new Nova shells were e-coated and most of them rotted after about 5 years lol.

The only benifit is that any underlaying rust was killed by the acid treatment and it got a fresh e-coat. But that doesnt mean it'll never rust, it just means its back to square one. My garage is damp and moisture even lays on the walls in winter so a build up in the chassis would cause it to rust.

For £380 and £20-30 a year to run it, it's a good investment.

Keith

you could fit a radiator in your garage to stop the damp.

Ben

I think its probably the best £400 keith has spent on this project, and for the overall cost it has cost his its peanuts.

Novasport

you could fit a radiator in your garage to stop the damp.

Unfortunately not, changes in temperature hot to cold will cause condensation and warming the air causes more water droplets to become airborne and can settle on cooler items ie, cold metal bodyshells.
Dehumidifying is the only way to try and prevent corrosion along with plastering the bodyshell in waxoyl.

Well the courier dropped off my Carcoon this afternoon about half 12. So I set to work cleaning the car for putting it away. I had got caught out in the rain, and also took a friend a run in the pouring rain so it was STINKIN!!

So washed, dryed and jacked up:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon001.jpg

Inner arched cleaned:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon002.jpg

Underneath all wiped clean:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon003.jpg

Then I rolled out the floor mat and drove the car onto it. It's just a simple case of putting the top sheet on and zipping it to the ground sheet. Finally I put the filters on the fans.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon005.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon007.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/Novacarcoon014.jpg

I was out looking round it again tonight, there's an air zip you can open at the rear to let damp out if you drive the car in wet. You can also reach in and touch the car etc.

I gave it a nice coat of wax before putting it away and to touch the paint is still uber smooth and silky, awesome. Not a spec of dust/dirt on it :thumb:

Why flock a GSi dash surely any MK2 dash will be the same when flocked?

lmao @ you doing the ET impression through the hole.

Seems quite a good idea that it has the bit for letting damp out if the car is wet when it goes in, that way it can dry out then you can clean it up and put it away again :)

and lol at you reaching in and touching the car!

Hey Keith, not checked the thread for a while now.

Just browsed through the last 15 pages or so,you've had a few set backs as we all do etc, but im glad it's finaly got to 98% where you wanted, shame your still waiting on the remainder of the interior.

Why are you not happy with the dash you already have flocked? looks really good to me mate.

(fook what others say,if i had spent this much the carcoons a good idea)

Because when you flock a Grey dash, the vents that go the window remain grey and noticeable, also suffolk flocking as as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. They "missed" the top of the glovebox, top of the fuse cover, loads of random corners etc just have no flock on, and it's patchy.

Fair enough mate, who you going to get to flock this one?

Nick has highly recommended somewhere, but I forget where lol. Once I get my hands on a decent GSI dash i'll send it all over. It's cheap enough to get done anyways :)

Just secured a GSI dash, if it arrives in tip top condition I may just use it in standard form instead. I'll wait and see.

Interior is almost finished, but a missing part of the seat is holding it up, once I source this it shouldnt be long. I hope it's not a big anti-climax lmao

Phase 2 chips, uprated FPR and cooler running spark plugs are now ordered. I'll probably take it out of the bubble for a week to fit these along with the interior when it all arrives. I'll probably take it out a few run's if we get any crisp dry days over winter http://www.reallymeansounds.com/forum/images/smilies/regular_smile.gif

What part of the seat are you needing, I have a few spare, might be able to help?

And try Brian (brizer - with the Asconas), he has started to do a bit of flocking now, would be a bit closer to home!!

krobinson

Might give Brian a shout.

I need an old SR/GTE/GSI seat that I can basically take apart to get some metal support and some clips. Steven in Ballymoney has one for me to collect hopefully tomorrow night.

Spoke to the Retrimmer, again he is still flat out. However the rear seats are finished, and he has the base's of the front seats finished. He's just needing to do the back's of the front seats.

Keep praying folks!! lmao!!

Well another Month has passed, and still no word on the Interior.

I'm ordering a Wideband at the end of the month, and sorting out some components with hopefully some small door builts.

Once all the snow clear's i'll get it all fitted along with the Phase chips and DV.

Really looking forward to this season!

Pulled it out of the Carcoon and garage for the first time since october. Good news is the carcoon worked and it's not rotten yet lmao!

I fitted my Bailey DV and blocked the original recirc.. Sounds excellent and added bonus is it's hidden under the tophat cover (because of the regal enlarged tophat)

Alarm is being sorted tomorrow, i'll get some pic's tomorrow.
