Well i've started to clean bits and bobs up for getting the shell back home when its finished painted (about 6-8 weeks time)
I want to have the axel, wishbones, tie bars, fuel tank etc etc all coated for when i get the car back. Also i need to take the running gear with me to build onto the car for its return home, it will make it easier to move around and get secured on the trailer without scratching the new paint.
These are all the nuts, bolts and brackets that i want either chromed or zinc plated, some suggestions of the best place to send these to would be great.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/tobeplated.jpg
This is everything i need powder coated at the moment, found a local place that should do a very good job.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/tobecoated.jpg
These are the poweflex bush's from NDZ 1331, i was going to replace them, but you never see them so its not worth it!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/powerflex.jpg
These are the rear disc hubs, i cleaned with down with a wire brush on a drill, degreased them, and have given the lower section some paint. Think they turned out quite well, pity you dont see them when fitted!! lol

looking great keith, I used quality chrome in hull for some bits they did for me, There work is exceptional I know joff used them too, I think its www.qualitychrome.co.uk (http://www.qualitychrome.co.uk) there web site is well impressive!
Just out of interest, how you going about lowering your tiebars & brackets to clear the F28 ? can only std bits in the pile.

Theres a really good chroming place in Liverpool we used to use for cycle frames Keith. Willow Chrome was all I knew of them. They were specifically used because of their reputation for flawless results I remember.

I'm going to get some of the lowered brackets from Chris Astley. Just getting those coated while i'm at it as spares for my other nova.
Was thinking of machining the front tie bars so they tighten up an extra 1mm. As this will combat the difference caused by the thickness of the strengthning plates on the front panel. Going to talk to my engineer this weekend.
Keith
Also when you lower the tie bars at the front they actually push the wheel back a couple of mm when i welded some box section on to the cross member to lower mine they ended up sitting a few mm (2 or 3 ?) further forward.
Definatly worth doing, maybe get a few extra mm machined off and get a couple spacers made up as well, then you can add / remove them untill they sit right.

I've got the chris ashley ones and their is no problem with them pushing the drive shaffs back at all
Not saying there gonna noticably push the wheels back, it'll only be a few mm, but if your gonna do the job then you may as well do it right !! lol
The tie bars point upwards slightly towards the front so if you bring them down so there pretty much level then there gonna want to go forward a few mm as well. so mounting the tiebars forward a few mm or machining the tiebar so its a few mm shorter will keep all the geometry as it was.

Small update, My two doors got damaged between surface processing or the transport company who moved the shell. They are both wrecked and i've had to source two new ones.
Richard has stepped in and got me two brand new GM doors, and i've ordered two new ones to replace his. This way Ade can get cracking on with the paintjob without having to wait for new doors.
I'm trying to keep spirits high, should have more pics over the coming weeks.
Once again a huge thankyou to Richard (nova sport), he's gone out of his way tonight to deliver the doors, much appreciated!
Keith
gutted, whoever damaged them probably though "oh well, its only a nova"

Update,
Well to say that i'm very very pissed off, wouldnt even scrape the surface of the anger i'm feeling these past two days.
My doors arrived on monday, a swift phone call from Ade at the bodyshop to confirm that they are completely thrashed. I'm still cannot believe how this has happened!
When the doors were ordered from opel classic parts, we gave them strict instructions that they had to be extreamly well packaged and that i would not accept any doors with so much as a scratch on them.
This is what arrived:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/S6007802.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/S6007799.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/S6007796.jpg
They came in cardboard boxes with no protection what so ever, no bubble wrap, no padding, and nothing written on the boxes to say they were fragile.
They agreed on monday to send more doors on receipt of these pictures. I sent them and got no reply, 6 phone calls later a fella answers to tell me he doesnt speak english, then tells me in perfect english that the girl who speaks english will be back tomorrow at 9am.
I just hope she's there tomorrow and that they actually listen this time and properly package the doors.

Exactly, I've tried vauxhall, autovaux, opel in the south of ireland, and all have said that I have no hope of ever getting new doors. They are mega rare. The only place that has them is this opel germany. I just hope they put alot more care into packageing them this time!
Keith
Hi Keith
That is indeed a big mess!!:mad: but I would not scrap them. They can surely be fixed.
I also once had a problem with a part from Opel Classic Parts, but got another one without a problem.
Big advantage for me is that they moved now to a new location and are about 20km from my home :D

Nope, they sent the second set for free. I paid a small fee to up the postage to express (sent friday, arrived monday) But obviously thats made no differance.
The packaging is poor, expecially when you concider how crap couriers are at handling goods. Thing that pisses me off it that from the very start, i've made it VERY clear that the doors must be extreamly well packaged.

Once again, poorly packaged and destroyed by the courier. I would highly recommend that no one orders any panels from opel classics unless you can collect them yourself.
And thats what i'm going to do. On 27th August, i'm planning a trip opel classics in germany to collect two mint doors. Sounds a bit extream, but when i'm paying the guts of 3k to dip, e-coat then paint a shell, it cant have doors full of ripply filler in it. I might pick up some spare wings and any other bits whilst i'm there.
Sorry but i wont have any room in the car for parts for other people, i'll just about be able to fit the two doors in and not damage them.

Amen to that, im sure they take a course on how NOT to read an address, and then play rugby with the parcels. They used to be the cream of courior companies in the past, but now ive seen nothing but uselessness and damaged goods from them. They managed to smash 7 of 8 projectors I had delivered to a site not long ago.

A tribute to your keeness, passion and enthusiasm mate. Ide be the same; wouldn't want a smidge of filler on my mint shell. But i don't know if ide have to guts to go and get them; but it'll make the opel people feel a bit small ; which is good.

keith, i'd have to say that'd probably be the best solution, and it's what i'm planning to do next year.
I don't think it's that extreme, afterall, it's the only way you're going to guarantee mint doors. ( just don't brake too hard on the way home) I'll be interested to know how you get on with the mammoth road trip, let us know.
ps, i'd hate to be on the other side of the counter when you get there!:thumb:

Keith,
Reading this thread I thought about doing it personal after the 4th door arrived fubarred .... and you're going ..... good on you!
Reminds me of my trip to personally collect my Cool Louvres bonnet after issues with a courier (TNT strangely enough!). That was a round trip of 600 miles ..... I'm sure N.Ireland to Germany will be considerably more !!
Have you investigated whether you can get a cheapo flight to somewhere near the Opel place and then hire a car one way back to N Ireland (if you can?)
Good luck and let us know how you get on

I wanted something Beefy for the rear, Looks fantastic on Daves nova (two systems made on his car)
The backing plates were 78 euro each, very expensive, but they cost ?90+vat each from vauxhall.
Trouble is, they dont have the cover for the sliding mechanism for the handbrake, so i've had to order those up too as you cant get them off a second hand pair.

I'd thought about keeping it that colour, but tbh I wanted to move on from that car and have something fresh. There are 3 Novas here in NI the same colour that are nicely modifyed, 2 of which are pretty much replicas of mine. Because NI is a small place, I usually see them around and people mistake them for my old car.
So with this one i've just went for a new colour. As said there are a few novas in the same colour range, but hopefully none in this exact colour, so it should be a little different.

Steam cleaned, then wire brushed the gearbox. Gave it some etch primer then hammerite smooth metal paint. Came out quite well and the paint hopefully shouldnt flake.

Well today I prepped the fuel tank, and used a fancy new contraption that Terri-ann found for me in Halfords for applying paint with aerosols.
It clips onto the top of most aerosols and allows you complete control of the can, much like using a professional spray gun. It defiantly made my life alot easier when spraying up the tank!

Well folks, I was going to hold out until I got some exterior shots of the car, but since its going to be at lease a week until I get those, I thought now's the time to finally show the colour.
The key to finding this colour, was to source a Nice Subtle, Rich and Classy colour. I think I found everything with this, and altho there are other Blue Novas around, I think this should still stand out.

Whoah, the colour is spot on. she's shaping up to be a dirty little bitch:thumb:
I understand you have a copy of Andy Bishops FMIC, any chance you could give me the details of the company that made it, i fancy a FMIC but don't want it on show. I posted on JOV but didn't get an answer from Andy yet.

There were 3 made on a group buy for Andy, Me and Mart. Its something new that hasnt been done before, and to be fair I dont want every Nova turbo running around with the same setup, and I really dont want others running around with it on there finished Nova's while mine is still in bits.
Hope you understand.
