Must have coast a small fortune though!

Fair play to you, and yes Ade has done an amazingly good job.

I couldn't own a car like this, i would just get frustrated, wouldn't want to touch it or drive it, as i would hate to get it dirty!

There were 3 made on a group buy for Andy, Me and Mart. Its something new that hasnt been done before, and to be fair I dont want every Nova turbo running around with the same setup, and I really dont want others running around with it on there finished Nova's while mine is still in bits.

Hope you understand.

Keith

I'm running around with this setup on mine.....

Shell's looking mint Keith, Superb job there by Ade!!

Very nice Keith!

So what colour is it then mate, none vaux?

looks a bit like the impretza p1 blue, i like it.:thumb:
i recon BMW estoril blue is nice and would look ace on a nova.

My nova is that colour, but it will going to its new owner shortly. (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87322)

Whoah, the colour is spot on. she's shaping up to be a dirty little bitch:thumb:

I understand you have a copy of Andy Bishops FMIC, any chance you could give me the details of the company that made it, i fancy a FMIC but don't want it on show. I posted on JOV but didn't get an answer from Andy yet.
IIRC Radtec made them for andy http://www.radtec.co.uk/ but i am sure proalloy http://www.proalloy.co.uk/ could make you a equally good setup if they are any closer to you? It would just be a case of dropping your car with them though as they have possibly never done a nova setup.

Its looking very tidy keith.

Mine was a LUXE.. however i've just got a standard dash and door cappings.

Mine is Burgandy, and grey goes well with redish colours, so i presume that's why they left it as a standard colour.

You also get really nice velour seats in some of the LUXE's... Mine were sooo comfortable.

im kidding.

Dead exciting all this; thus far (money no object) youve done everything i would have if i was going out n out on nova. Luv the vents in the wings and that early mk1 tailgate. I guess the only 'untrue' thing your doing is mk2'ing and mk1.. but on irish plates no one would know; plus mk2's do look better. In my opinion.

Well folks, just got back with the shell today around 2.30pm. I'm absolutely wrecked and somehow caught an ear infection (nice!)

Anyways, arrived in newcastle with Mark, who had some goodies for me, including the bolts to build up the axel.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/2e3e083d.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/1d966756.jpg

Next day we set off for Crewe and fitted the new axel and some old suspension to the car tempory just to get it home. The uprated/nicely painted arms/wishbones etc will go in later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/cd39b48a.jpg

We set off back to wakefield for the night, and then went back on thursday lunchtime to load the car onto the trailer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/Nova%20Rebuild%202006-2007/80ae8276.jpg

The boat didnt sail from fleetwood until 3am, so we parked up and got the tram to blackpool, went on a few of the rollercoasters including the pepsi max, which is pretty damn cool :D

Now the car's home and in the garage, drying off from the drenching of rain it got back here in NI.

And a quick snap of my now completed rocker cover and plug cover together.

looks good, not 100% convinced on the colour at the minuet tbh, but sure ones its all built up it'll look loads better.
Have you trial fitted your rad / cooler ? i know your using a custom set up and might not have the same prob but when you move the rad forward to clear the turbo it ends up directly under the bonnet safety catch (mine did anyway) so had to get rid of it (and fit pins) as it was gonna puncture the top of the rad.
Hope it all go's together without to many probs fella.

Rich

krobinson
26-10-07, 07:55 PM
I just need to shave some excess off the bonnet catch to clear the intercooler. Also need to shave some excess from the slats of the grill, but other than that it should be a straight fit.

Colour wont be everyones cuppa tea. Its a colour that really needs the sun to hit it, or at least some proper daylight, its so dull and overcast now that it'll be a while before we see the true colour.

I'll probably be picking your brain with getting the engine running, pipework etc rich :D

Looking awesome Keith, spoke to Rich the other day, he said the colour looks fantastic in the flesh... can't wait to see it!!!

So, you just strengthening the standard engine, any mods? I'm not an expert, but I'd imagine 200bhp+ in a Nova is probably enough... ;-)

I've a hybrid turbo, massive intercooler (will be hidden) and will run phase 2, which hopefully should give 270-280, which will be more than enough :D

Are you mounting your ECU on the scuttle panel or are you moving the rubber grommet at some point?

On my build I found that it was easiler putting the car loom in first before the carpets but I'm sure you'll do whatever you think best!

Keep it up!

I'm moving the gromit forward, was just using this to measure just how far it needs moved.

I've a friend sourcing me a good GSI loom as i dont want to use my basic spec 1985 loom. The carpets are just sitting there and can be pulled up at the corners to route the loom once i get it.

Ditto that... I originally took 170 nuts and bolts to the platers, I thought that was it. After more sorting I found a further 110 be to plated  and I suspect there'll be more!!

I use re-sealable freezer bags, you can write bolt locations etc on the front of them.

Its the original carpet, and I havent cleaned it yet. The car only had 4k miles on it when i bought it in 2004, i drove it until there was 13k then stripped it for this project. It's an L model and so had nice plush carpets :D

Well if phase 2 runs on 3.5bar of fuel pressure then there's no point in fitting a 4bar regulator.

Get an adjustable reg mate.

Not worth getting a fixed one IMO.

Allows you to adjust fueling accurately and to the exact pressure the engine required (if you use a wideband to monitor AFR).

A 4 bar reg tho is too much for phase 2, it'll chuck too much fuel in.

Its always better to have "more" yeah, pump wise(walbro is always handy). But not regulator wise, you want the pressure set spot on.
As long as the afr is fine(which it should be if ph2 is designed for 3.5bar), it'll be fine.

Well, This has to be the best and most exciting update for me yet. Steven txt me Last night to say the engine was ready (ARP bolts and metal tensioners fitted) So I wasted no time and collected it at 2pm with the help of Cormac.

We then got home and set about fitting my billet lightened flywheel, new clutch, and gearbox to the engine. And then fitted it to the bay.

I also then removed the rocker cover, and fitted my new properly painted one, with the amazingly well done Red plug cover (thanks nick!!)

I'll let the pics say the rest!

Hey Folks,

Another small update from the work i've been doing this past two days.

Bought a Riv Nut kit, and fitted rivnuts to the lower front panel, upper front panel, and chassis leg, so I can mount my oil cooler and later on my intercooler and radiator.

Oil cooler should be fine there. Its running the same on another car and its all fine. The fella's who made the whole setup designed it around the oil cooler being there, and they made the bracket etc.

The loom, i'm just going to wrap it in new black tape. With the car being a dark colour you hardly notice it, plus I didnt want to hide it as if any problems arrise you end up dismantleing the whole car to fix it.

^ Thats going to cause you some problems IMHO Keith.

In that pic, the ball joints to high, thus making the hub assembly sit higher. The lower arm could end up pointing downward at an angle that it simply cant achieve, thus forcing the tie bar down with it, and the tie bar isnt going to want to go down.

If anything, personally id put the tie bar at the top, and balljoint at the bottom.

Other then that, spot on work fella :thumb:

andybishop
17-11-07, 04:42 PM
The tie bars will be lowered off the front panel too, so will move down, the ball joint is only sitting around 1 CM higher than when it sits inside the lower arm. It is set up like this so that the tie bar clears the F28 Gearbox, not the best setup, but needs must. I run mine the same and have had no problems with that..

Nope, should be fine mate.

The Tie bar is lowered about 2" on the front panel, and as andy said the ball joint is only about 1cm higher. In theory this is better as with the car being lowered the wishbone will sit straighter.

Also andy's runs fine like this :D

If you ran the tie bar on front and ball joint below then the tie bar would hit the F28.

the hub can't sit any higher? the only thing that'll make the hub sit higher is the length of the strut, surely? All mounting it there has acheived is simply lowering the tiebar/control arm. If keith has lowered front tie bar mounts, then the tie bar should sit flat/as is. if the thickness of the control arm is, say, 2.5c.m and the front mount is say 2.5c.m further down from it's original locating point, then the tie bar should work/behave in the same way.

how does them riv nuts actually work?

krobinson
18-11-07, 11:47 AM
Just like a Rivot, You need the special crimping things to fit them, its almost identical to a Rivoter, but you need this special tool. And the Rivnuts come in packs.

Just drill the hole, then put the rivnut on the tool and squeeze it. It holds in the same as a Rivot but has threads for nuts.

Was Andy B who told me about Rivnuts, and my local motorfactors got me all the kit!

Hope this helps?

Well it had to happen, After a bit of bad luck, when fitting the oil feed for the turbo, the block sheered off here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/keithrobinson/6304b1f6.jpg

I've been down about it this last few days, but i've since found two solutions, both which require the engine out. It will either be drilled and tapped bigger and a different fitting put in place, Or another block will be prepared and everything transfered across.

Meanwhile I'll crack on with the rest of the car, and save up for everything else I need, and refit the engine in a few months.

Yeah its possible, but the block needs to be bare and then flushed clean, at that point its probably easier to just fit the parts to another block.

Either way, its going to get sorted and i'm just going to think positively about it!
