well work has been far too in frequent this year and with the G pad im also feeling the pinch

unfortunately i like everything now,

but the funds need building up again

problem with the Evo gearbox

laguna needs a service an a rear exhaust

nova needs finishing

the list goes on

Guin should be sending some beans my way but fat chance, he tends not to speak about his nova as he gets upset lol

Was going to ask why the bump, ive done over a thousand trouble free miles in the old girl now, got a few minor things i need to sort, i need to change the front chassis leg engine mount but other than that, nothing major, just need some more fuel and go out and enjoy it some more!

Still no issues to report, all running well and use her for work transport every now and then as a change of pace, done about 1500 miles now, already considering bike carb converting, after being out in my mates carb'd xe corsa lol

Oh and got a Colin McRae sticker so thought id bung it on (grey thing on top is the car-cover to keep tree sap and bod-shoite off and the nova clean lol)

do you mean she not garage'd!!! lol take it you live in a quiet area dude

Southie
13-07-12, 07:23 AM
I hope there's another update with you taking the sticker back off lol

You know I love this motor and the sound of bike carbs would be the next best option, make sure you get Tom Reid helping you out because I wouldn't recommend Bogg Brother with it apart from making the manifold ;)

Spudly
13-07-12, 06:32 PM
Why would you not recommend Boggy's, everyone i know thats been there only ever sings their praises?

I dont get what you mean about not being garaged though Pie, she doesnt live at home but rather than jolly up to the unit everytime i want her out ive brought her home for a couple of weeks, going halves on a unit myself with a mate as one has come up at the place im already at which is ace, cant wait:d

Oh and why would i take the sticker off that ive just put on ya pleb?

Southie
13-07-12, 07:01 PM
Bogg bros messed me about really badly with my old setup, it took 4 months to fit them and I had to go back twice because they were setup incorrectly.

They always had an excuse saying they were busy every time I rung up asking when my Nova would be ready, as said the manifold was great but I think you'd get a better service and help of Tom personally.

Edit: Also off Bogg bros they had rebuilt my 1.4sr engine running the car previously... my total bill was £1500 so I expected the think to be right, which it wasn't

Another bump for stickers lol

Got some repro 'antibes' decals made up in the correct red/white scheme for the car, been umming and ahhing over whether to fit them or not as theyre not exactly the same as the genuine gm one that ive got, but i thought seen as how ive bought them and theyre sat there doing nothing, i thought id bung them on.....

They do look good but I would t have fitted them personally, you'll need the pin stripes keeping in theme,

You can still see them stickers on mine and where the pinstripe was, cause some monkey removed them with a Stanley knife lol

Yes as ive not got the use of a unit this year so there is no way im leaving her out with no form of protection, this cover is said to be waterproof and uv proof aswell so its said to leave the car clean and protected from sunlight too, in reality no covers are truly waterproof so it will be taken off (weather permitting) aired out and the car washed and dried a couple of times a month, plus the odd dry day ill be taking her out for a quick run too!

Just be careful with grass growing under the car, it can get the underside wet and stop it drying out.
Make sure the cover does not trap water under it as it can water mark the paint. I use a breathable water resistant cover on first then a 100% waterproof cover on top which kept it totally dry all winter last year and I never took it off for several months either.
Also, water traps are a good idea to stop the interior getting damp & mouldy, Morrisons do some good ones for about £3-4. I put one in the boot and another one or two in the front footwells. You would be suprised what you collect in what you think is a dry car.

Its on what was the concrete base for our old garage Rich, thats the reason its on there :thumb:

We sell dehumidifiers at work so im going to get one of those (white plastic thing with a removable drip tray in it) and im going to pilfer the silica gel sachets from the boxes that our copper bake pipes come in and fill it full of them too, that plus the occaisional drive out on sunny days mean she should see winter through with minimal trouble i hope :d

Lol, Lemon its very poorly and very rotten, my dad wants to fix it up but i think its way past saving tbf, plus he doesnt know very much about cars unfortunately!

Spudly

Got myself a dehumidifier thing from work the other day, and as it was my early finish i thought id whip the cover off and wash/repolish the car!

Cover has been on for a month now and we have had about two weeks of pretty bad rain/showers, pleased to say only a little bit of condensation on the bonnet and thats about it, wiped the car down with a wash leather and polished it as it didnt even need washing :d

Then opened the sachet of 'stuff' filled the tray and stuck it behind the seats on the transmission tunnel thing, also fitted a steering lock i was donated by a mate the other week for the princely sum of nothing!

I reckon i should be good with the one sachet of absorbant stuff, as its supposed to be for static caravans and last about three months:thumb:

Got it on staff discount for £3 lol

Cool, good to know there is someone else using them with good results, i have had sachets of silica gel in a standing nova once before, but they went soggy very quick and i had mouldy seatbelts too

Aye couldnt resist when i was offered the Disklok, as we all know, extra security is a must, ive got an immobiliser and a fuel pump cutoff, but you can never have too many deterrants :d

Those dehumidifiers are the same ones that Morrisons sell. I get them from there, they are only £2.99 each. Aldi did some refill packs earlier in the year aswell, there was enough to refill about 12 trays and it was only about a fiver. Not seen them in there for a while but they will probably get them again at some point.
They are very effective but I would advise you to sit them on a plastic tray as they get very full. They should not over spill as the amount of granules they supply is only enough to fill the tub. The suff is nasty if you get it on your hands or spill it but it is very effective.

I have been using them for about 3 years. At least two per car is better, you will be surprised how much they collect from a dry car.

Another little winter update, went out to pull the cover off and see if there was any muck or water seepage onto the car, and was very pleased to find nothing, no condensation or water marks, well happy!

Think i need to get a trickle charger from work as the battery doesnt like being left for periods and it struggled a bit to start it, but as soon as the trusty old xe turned over it fired up first bang so pleased by that too!

Also took a few piccys to show she is still clean and shiny, simply because i can :d

Lol ahhh so thats why you were soo keen, a little personal enjoyment to keep your motivation up eh lol

It was really the distance thing that did it for me, i was wanting to have it retaxed so i couldve had it out a little more but hey ho, least i know its secure and now clean/dry, im definately hoping to have it out for our meet as tbf im really missing driving it now

Mike, the battery is the one from the cav and its always been a little poor, its an unbranded one so wont be very good quality anyways, was stood flat for well over a year during the build so that wont be helping matters, but occaisional use keeps enough charge in there, but i intend to replace with one from work next year :thumb:

And cheers mr Pie, im hoping to have it out at least once in the snows, i think it will really bring the colour out with a decent snow covered backdrop

Get some 80's rally style... Hella comet 500's. I had a set in the 80's & mounted them on brackets fitted to the bumper mounts, so no drilling.. They lit everything up.. I ended up making some stays out of long jubilee clips, straightened out to stop them moving when jumping humpback bridges....

steviegsi
29-11-12, 10:31 AM
Would work well but it would need a set of white rally type wheels to tie in the covers and the stripes IMO . Surely some creative bracketry would avoid drilling holes in the bumper?

I never thought spots suited novas til I saw this one...

Thing is i was going to source another bumper before i fitted these, mine has a small ding on one side as the car has been poked into something during its life, and there is already a hole in the grill section as im guessing its possibly had a badge screwed on once before?

Not so much an update for anything happening, but mines been off the road for over a month (tax) and because i didnt use it before the tax ran out, its been under its cover for over seven weeks and ive not been near it lol

Went out yesterday and took the cover off to find its become home to alsorts of wildlife and spidery type things!

Jumped it off using my van (batt flattery) and immediately smelt petrol (not good) looked underneath an fuel was pissing out from the join on one of the lines from the tank, bugger!

Turned it off and went back inside for a cuppa, then thought i might aswell have a look at whats perished under there now, only to find it was a failed jubilee clip, replaced that and all is now well :d

Just need my tax disc to arrive and i can run it to jetwash and re-home all the wildlife, then its going to be machine polish time ready for billing!

also you ever considered painting one of your frames the same colour as the nova, so it would be matching pair going down the road

I would, but ive got nowhere to go in it, other than the shows, and going out for a quick squirt, has gone from being a fun blast, to a pointless waste of fuel that i simply cant justify

Why would i want a roof rack, ive got my van for bikes/biking, can fit me and three mates, plus all our bikes in the back happily :d

Ive just been sat in it for an hour with it running to charge the battery, after finally fitting a sub, ive got a decent bit of punch on my music now, very happy

Do you not just enjoy driving it?

Andy

This is the thing with project cars why I cant justify having another.Last one I had did just 350miles in a year.total waste of tax/mot and insurance.Other than going down to my mates once a month max,and going to 3 shows,it would never get any use.

Reason not being enjoyment?

You'd waste more than that going for a few "beers" on a friday...

Agree with Benn, i'd rather go out a blast in the Novataken than have a few beers for the same cash, not a big drinker myself though.

I don't go out drinking as I can't justify that either, my mate went out in Saturday for a 13 hour session, spent £100, I couldn't do that anymore, only time I drink is when it's £10 worth of supermarket bargain lol

Need to save for paint tlc now methinks

Driving a Nova, especially an XE I am sure would give a better buzz than ten pints of Carling. Plus no hangover, just a big grin.
