Big smiles all round mate it's looking well :) I prefer the original Antibes interior as you've put a MK2 interior in boooooooooo lol

I'm wanting to rip the door strips off mine now because they look far cleaner without them.

I should have been at yours today, I just remembered but it was mothers day lol

Spudly
03-04-11, 08:56 PM
No reply to my question then Mowgli...?

I likes the original interior aswell, but since the pv spec seats lift at certain angles, where i need to sit, my knees foul the steering wheel so i need the SR seats in so im sat lower, and rather than having odd interior ill replace it all so it matches:p

Oh and leave your rubstrips as they look too bland without imo:thumb:

No reply to my question then Mowgli...?

i just got a vibe that this was a jack style engine swap.... drink tea & get someone else to do it...lol lol

any pics of you with mucky hands?????

reason i was not answering was we just had a big mothers day indoor bbq style thing...

Nope you can ask Rob as he helped me on friday and saturday, and only dirty fingertips due to actually wearing gloves, jees the 'pics or it never happened' thing just got a whole load more boring:roll:

Southie
03-04-11, 09:11 PM
Why didn't you just use the subframes from the Sr seats on the Antibes seats?

The seats are truly awful when driving enthusiastically trust me,you wont regret putting the sri seats in.

Southie
03-04-11, 09:29 PM
I find standard seats okay but cause I'm a skinny minny it's like I'm sat in an arm chair off the lemsip adverts lol

To be fair, I'm no mechanic, had minimal knowledge of XE stuff back then, and didn't trust myself to do an engine swap only to end up forgetting something. Now I've seen it done first hand, I wouldn't mind doing one myself if I had to.

Spudly
03-04-11, 09:32 PM
Why didn't you just use the subframes from the Sr seats on the Antibes seats?

Cos the underside of the Antibes seats are totally different to the SR ones and wont fit, its not like ive fitted a set of rage bucket seats though so meh:p

And as Andy said, drive enthusiastically (which lets face it, is what an xe nova is built for) and youre going to end up sat on the passenger and not the seat lol

Rob

Wouldnt be much of a win when you end up in the scenery after falling out from behind the wheel:tard:

Southie
03-04-11, 09:36 PM
Well Spud your waisting a decent set of seats :p

well done spud you seem to be doing very well to date mate
i havent read through it just scanned the thread but have you got an alt bracket and bolts ect sorted? if not give me a shout for anything your missing or want to know as im only on the other end of the phone

well done mate

oh and as for sfi boxes they fitt novas well its corsas that arnt as keen

also you got them cav front springs off yet?

Spudly
04-04-11, 01:57 PM
Small update, all the SR/SRi spec interior is now and and gave it a tidy out, removed the dash undertray as it wasnt sat right, cleaned it and refitted it  lol

Adjusted the top bolts on the coilover legs as the tyres were catching the spring platforms but it still needs adjusting again as i have massive positive camber on the offside wheel but the nearside looks spot on now.

Fitted my rad which with the engine in was a cnut of a job:cry: but its done now, was going to get a couple more pics but then it started pissing it down so ive been rained off, only a simple list of things now to do but ive run out of monies at the mo, but she wont be on the road till the end of this month so thats no biggy really:thumb:

Ste, im still missing a couple of bits for the alt, the rubber bush and bolt, and the shorter mounting bolts for the alt itself, im hoping my mate Rich will have some suitable ones kicking about in his spares box:d

Err didnt know you still wanted the springs as i thought you were selling the cav, unsure as to how to work that one aswell, cos the car needs to be rolling for when it goes and ive got no spring compressors:eek:

I have some spring compressors you can borrow

Spudly
04-04-11, 08:24 PM
That might be an idea Rich, you know anyone with any decent aftermarket front legs they want shut of, preferably with at least -60mm springs as these fk's are doing my head in rubbing on the tyres:cry:

mowgli
04-04-11, 08:25 PM
spud, get something to pack it with... some scaffold, plastic pipe, etc... and swap the springs out.

wheel spacers, but then they will scrub the wings so not a good idea......
Now you understand all the shiz i went through with my set,i did tell you, then you went and bought some yourself!!! LOLZ
Coilovers are ultra hassle

Spudly
04-04-11, 08:32 PM
These were recommended by Rob (who will be recieving a poke in the eye when i see him) as they wouldnt rub or have any bother at all:cry:

scott.parker
04-04-11, 08:32 PM
Are you runnig 45 or 50 profiles?
you will need short springs if there catching the tyres on 45s

Spudly
04-04-11, 08:33 PM
Theyre on 50 profiles, if i raise the rideheight will they clear the tyres?

scott.parker
04-04-11, 08:37 PM
i would say so, you should be able to tell mate its where the platforms are sat.

Spudly
04-04-11, 08:38 PM
Ill have to drive it like a monster truck till i can source some decent struts then, if i ever get it finished that is:tard:

scott.parker
04-04-11, 08:43 PM
Try looking at shorter coil springs on rallydesign mate, a short set in the corret size would be no more then £30 posted

Spudly
04-04-11, 08:46 PM
Im guessing this is why most people remove the 'helper springs' on coilovers then?

Andy
04-04-11, 08:48 PM
Shorter springs wont sort it,because the platform is too close to the tyre in the 1st place.
Adjustable top mounts would be the only way???

NOV4_SPORT

So would removing the helper spring (im guessing thats the really tightly wound bit of the coil at the bottom) go towards helping this situation then?

Andy
04-04-11, 08:58 PM
Im guessing they would be ridiculously short and very uncomfortable!!!

lol its not my fault your cars been :gay: mine are perfectly fine with no rubbing issues, stop getting your knickers in a twist they just want setting up and possibly as Lee said remove the helper spring to raise the platform above the tyre :thumb:

Spudly
05-04-11, 07:47 PM
Well after a conversation with mr Porter today, he convinced me that i was being silly and no coilovers have the helper spring as part of the main spring and that i would definately be able to remove it and raise up the platform to clear the tyre, i told him that i was fairly sure they were a one piece bit so he asked me to get a pic, and i was wrong lol

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/spudly01/Nova%20Antibes/DSC_0025_045.jpg

Weekends job is now remove coileys and strip off the helper spring, also know a rather accurate way of setting the camber up now too, cheers bud:thumb:

Been doing bits on the nova this last week and spent an afternoon on her today, not done anything massively visable but ive done some fiddly bits that have needed doing for a while!

Removed the helper springs from the front coilovers last week and set them up so they both matched heightwise, and i thought id got the camber set bang on, but it needs a little more looking at once the car is finished.

Pics from the other night...

So this afternoon...

Reconnected the rear brakes as Andy had the rear beam off to polybush it and paint it not long before i got it, so the rear pipes had just been clamped off for now, so theyre connected and bled up, handbrake is reconnected and working, rear springs have been swapped for my lower ebay specials, and also got some g-max rears on for now instead of the standard ones that were on.

Alternator is now mounted properly, as is the fuel pump, just need some more fuel line and i can fit up the lines aswell!

Next job is to remove the rounded bolts from the exhaust manifold and swap it for a better condition one that i have, also going to replace the studs for it as there are a couple missing and they all look fubarred!

Anyways, onto todays pics....

And a question for you guys, does anyone recognise the dealer name on the plates here...

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/spudly01/Nova%20Antibes/IMG-20110829-00374.jpg

Id like a picture of the original dealer window stickers if possible, as id like to get one made up for the rear screen if i can, or would it just be a bigger version of the pne at the bottom of the plates..?

Any advice on that would be appreciated, oh and no she isnt running yet as there isnt a rush due to me keeping her off the road over winter so she wont be finished till next summer!

Iain

Do you not like cleaning engine bays? lol

Nova looks tidy :) Any ideas where you're going to tap into the wiring for the manual fan switch? Do you need to run a wire all the way to the front?

Spudly
29-08-11, 09:25 PM
Seriously bud you shouldve seen the astra's bay when i first got it lol

Yep just going to run a wire from the switch to the neg side of the fan wiring using one of these.....

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRJyWPRVtNSglSc5LCiddIfAYMlqQ1rc Hefkx_JlaXwy6N6MvWAgQ

Then run the other side to a dash earth, the fans go live with ignition and the fan switch only earths it so by doing that no extra fuses are needed and it still works off the stat/fan switch as normal :d

davidfox280585
29-08-11, 10:22 PM
i know what you mean all the little jobs which you dont see take the longest, like today my progress was sort brake light switch on the s1,tighten track rod ends, tighten arb clamps, fit door pin switches and nip rocker cover up,nip fan switch up, all little jobs but looks as if ive done nothing, what is it your needing now to complete?

Spudly
29-08-11, 10:30 PM
My mate Rich was saying the same, its all the little finishing bits that take the longest but look like youve done nothing:cry:

Err now its finish off the bay wiring, replace the studs on the exhaust manifold and change the manifold, run in the fuel lines to where the pump now is and match up some coolant hoses as i only have a select few lol

After that the sills are going to get tlc over winter as theyre scabby, going to strip em back and treat them, then re-underseal the whole car while she is in hiding over winter:d

Cheers Sam, its nice to get some progress done on it aswell lol

I thought it would be Stu, as it says 'ips' on it, you think the window sticker would just have been a bigger version of that on the plate then, i know Marshalls Group, they bought out the local Honda dealership a while ago and own most if not all of them round the Yorkshire area iirc!

Cheers Mark, i think Rich has a stud extractor set, im sure he said he has:d

Stuart
29-08-11, 11:02 PM
I'll dig through some old photos of the burgandy dream and see what the dealer window sticker was like compared to the plate logo.

MK999
29-08-11, 11:02 PM
There's a couple variations and they're by far the best, can use them doing or undoing studs as long as it's on the smooth section as they do damage threads slightly, obviously scrap ones just go nuts though lol

Also I have quite a lot of samco's left over from the kit that was meant to be an xe conversion set. Right, progress for all the haters :p

Although it seems more like a few steps backwards, we have actually achieved a decent amount as my exhaust bolts were rotten, missing a couple of studs and generally looked a state!

Ive sorted a full powerflow system from my mate Brodie (Brodie_SRi) on here, including manifold and back box, so the old manifold is off, the studs are out and the face is cleaned up, it needs the lambda take off from my old manifold swapping over as the one on the manifold i intend to use is 'F'. I already have a new gasket and the correct studs and copper nuts to replace when the manifold is ready to go back on.

Ive also fitted the -70mm rear springs courtesy of djdommyp on here aka http://www.accustomdesigns.co.uk (http://www.accustomdesigns.co.uk/) (shameless plug) because i swiped the adjustable ones for my astra, and two nights ago i ordered all three sets of silicone hoses from roose motorsport!

So although it looks like ive done bugger all, and there have been no updates, ive been busily buying up decent parts for it so im not using offcuts of pipe and bodged up exhausts, so ner ner to all the haters!

Couple of pics from today, like i say not much visable but we know a decent amount has been done!

proven little fact for you all usually 10-15bhp in some cases, and spud about time hopefully soon she will be on the road this summer

Spudly
21-01-12, 08:18 PM
She WILL be on the road this summer mate, she needs a little tlc to the sill corners and the arches but theyre still solid with no rust coming through so she will probably just be MOT'd and pumped full of cavity wax/underseal and such for this year then have the bodywork done next year, but dont be thinking she is rotten though as she isnt lol

I cant wait, i got all giddy and excited working on her again today, and felt massively proud when i entered my card details on roose motorsports website to buy my hoses:d

Lol i didnt do anything with a cable tie you geek, we got the manifold off and all the rotten studs off ready for the brand shiny new ones to go in and fit the exhaust system, i reckon when we first start it, it will be the only xe'd nova ever to be fired up with a full exhaust on and not just on the manifold lol

Anf Jack it better had be at national weekend, but ive not booked just yet :p

Lewis.
24-01-12, 07:20 PM
what does it still need then spud? fuel tank/lines, plumbing and wiring? same as me, bet you still finish first though lol

Spudly
24-01-12, 07:23 PM
It needs the wiring neatening up and checking before its powered up, and the lines extending to where the pump is on the chassis leg, coolant hoses fitting (when my set from roose lands:d) and that about it, i definately want the dash flocking in black i think, and the cesaro's painting white!

ah thats sod all then, I wish I had the space you have, I couldn't work on mine if I wanted to lol

flocked dash is ftw, you still got a cancer dash?

Spudly
24-01-12, 08:13 PM

But he is also assisting me (read he is doing and im making cups of coffee) to finish it off lol

And yes it does have the carcinogenic chunk of horribleness, but apart from the wheels and the xe i want it to look fairly standard if that makes sense, so its staying, but i reckon if i get the dash flocked, it will seal in the carcinogens and ill then be safe:d

Lewis.
24-01-12, 08:30 PM
still looks a good space, you can get around it and keep dry at least. I have 18" down one side of my garage lol

Another spot of mincing today:d

The new exhaust manifold i got from my mate had a crossed lambda with cut wires in it, so we removed it and cut out the old lambda take off, then removed the good one from my old manifold, plus the rear mount that bolts up under the back of the sump, not a massive job but it needed doing and Rich aka the_General_Chancer, did a sterling job on the weldy work, pic mid job...

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/spudly01/Nova%20Antibes/a426381d.jpg

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/spudly01/Nova%20Antibes/92a80f7f.jpg

While he was doing that i trial fitted my 19L plug cover that my mate painted up for me, then fitted the manifold studs and we got the manifold bolted up ready for the system to go on now!

Next job is fuel lines to the pump/tank then fit up the rest of the system, quick pic of the plug cover and thats about it till next weekend now!

Im really happy with the plug cover and cant wait to get my hoses on aswell, and yes im going to get the rocker cover and cambelt cover repainted too:d

Andy
28-01-12, 10:32 PM

standard GSI wheels? unusual choice for a MK1, should look good though

part number for the oil filter spigot to do away with the cooler is 90144360 if you need it :thumb:

Spudly
30-01-12, 08:21 PM
Well its got a standard GSi engine so its in keeping lol

I reckon the colour will pull it off, if it doesnt quite work ill make Andy happy and refurb them white, and thankyou for that i might ring my local vaux and see if they can find me one, although i might have just come across a ten row mocal oil cooler brand new, but cheers anyways dude, i might have to touch you for that haha :p

I want some as mine rattle from cold but shut up once warm, and im soon to be purchasing some cams so it would make sense to change the tappets whilst the cams are out:d

ah good point lol they will look good in the standard silver i reckon, although a darker colour to match the bumpers would be a good alternative?

that part number fits just about everything so they should be available lol

"i might have to touch you for that" I refer you to my avatar picture lol

Yeah there sounds to be about four at least that rattle from cold, once warm they shut up entirely but since im actually spending really good money on the right parts for this now it would be silly not to get new tappets, priced them with auto-vaux today, £158 inc vat for all sixteen gen vauxhall ones which i didnt think was bad at all in fairness:thumb:

Andy
30-01-12, 10:05 PM
What about seeing if you can find some lower milage ecotec 2.0 ones?? be wayyyyyy cheaper?
oh and those clocks are out of this arent they?! lol lol lol

Yes and i personally broke the starship enterprise, the warp core is under my nova's bonnet right now lol

And in all fairness genuine ones from A-V are £160 i dont think thats massively bad, but if the lad in the link Jeff posted is selling gen ones, then £80 is even better:d

INA are very good quality stuff, whether that's who made the original XE ones I don't know, but I wouldn't have an issue with using INA lifters.

Guy at auto-vaux said something that i thought sounded like 'inner' at which i asked if it was just the middle bit they supply, so he corrected me and said theyre (obviously INA) and theyre genuine spec as supplied originally by vaux, and also said they have supplied loads of them and never had any comebacks, which tbf im inlcined to believe:thumb:

Probably are original parts then basically, they just slap a few percent and a blue sticker on them at the dealers lol

One that got me a while ago was someone trying to sell me 'marla' pistons at work for a ridiculously low price, I got laughed at when I said they sounded like they could be cheap crap compared to the price we got quoted for Nurals... Apparently that's how you're supposed to pronounce Mahle lol
