As some of you might know i bought Rich's (Novasport) Sport shell a few weeks back,

For those who dont know it's a brand new bodyshell thats been acid dipped, e coated then painted Polar white using all new genuine panels

included in the deal with Rich i got

Full Sport interior,
Sport decal kit,
Confirmation letter from Andrew Duerdan

Rich's thread (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68132)

few pics of what Rich had done to it,

back from dipping and coating;

painted;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/NovaSport/DSC00029.jpg
when i went to pick it up Rich had done a amazing job in wrapping it all up so that it would not get damaged on the trailer all the way back down the country, big thanks to him for that.

On this build, which will be my last, i will try to use all genuine parts and take my time to make sure its perfect.

Few pics of whats been happening,

On the trailer picking it up;

Out of my garage for the first time;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0507.jpg

First job was to give the inside a good clean before fitting the headlining, rear arch carpets, A and B pillar vinyl and carpets in. As original as i would somethings are not going to be possible, so had to do this with the arch carpets;

Gray;

Sprayed with this;

Look like this when fitted;

headlining, rear cage and rear carpet fitted;

Im picking up a 13sb engine from Rich next week, mounts are off being powdercoated so engine will go in then, wont have time to do any more to it until then.

Thanks for looking.

it will have a standard Sport interior but with a cage.

engine plans are NO carbs, Irmscher injection kit, Rotrex charger (at some point).

exterior wise, standard Sport but without the horrid mirrors and MAYBE a rear spoiler

Cheers Si,

i do like the sound of the carbs, but i know NOTHING about them set up wise, plus i REALLY want to charge a 13SB so injection system is needed.

I would also like this to a little different to all the other Sports, nothing major tho.

Cheers for all of the comments so far.

Edd, I know what you mean about the carbs, i've spent about 2 hours playing with mine already and they still aren't right, at least the idle and run now though! I get some fuel chokage at 5500rpm though which I need to figure out.

Yeah I love the idea that the supercharger is going on it, will be different, but yet, still in keeping with the sort of mod's that might have been done to a sport!

What wheels?

Glad to see it getting built, something I think I would never have got done.
Good luck, I will be following the thread closely and I hope to see it at Billing.

Its a great shell with a whole stack of new or pristine bits to go on it.
It'll be great & the wee touches Edd has in mind are all spot on IMO. Nothing irreversible so therfore not controversial I hope.

Just as a note refering to the Irmscher injection, the system I have came off a Nova Sport, was fitted to it when pretty new:) Knew the car for many years, one of the four that were local to me

No just the rear arch carpets, i have a fair few browns sets to chose from just put a set in to save the floorpan from getting scratched whilst im building it up.

Paint damage will require some paint on the rear quarter, i have a good friend who will sort it to a very high standard once its on the road.

I will use it mainly on the road, cant see me taking it on a track tbh.

where was it painted ? also where did you buy the carpet underlay from ?

Tommy
Adrian Culley painted it iirc.

I got the underlay from OpelClassicParts on eBay.de

What happend to the old shell?

Craig now has it, I'm sure he will start a thread when he starts work on himself

Update time;

I went to pick a 13 sb engine up off Rich few weeks ago.

Fully rebuilt engine with a Kent ast2 cam fitted, i do have cylinder head with 1mm oversize valves but i dont want to split the headgasket so i will fit this head when i eventually put the charger on.

Engine;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0533.jpg

Built up with a F13, i degreased, etch primed, and painted in silver. Still got to refurb the end plate and diff cover.
Fitted some gearbox bolts that have been chromed.
New flywheel fitted as well.
The place where i took the metal engine mounts to ended up losing them :mad:
so i refurbed some other ones.
Still need to put the Irmscher rocker cover on.

Built up;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0535.jpg

Iv decided to use genuine new engine mounts but for the rear gearbox where iv gone with a new solid one.

In;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0537.jpg

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0541.jpg

Fitted a few other bits, stainless bonnet stay, new rubber bonnet stay holder, chrome bonnet release spring and brake bulkhead blank.

Still loads to do in the bay but least the engine is in.

Tomorrow should see me make some progress with the interior.

Edd.

Update time finally, lol

Done quite a bit since the last update, mainly fighting with the headlining for about a day, NEVER EVER will I fit another, complete pain to do, but happy with it now.

Fitted my front heated screen for the group buy, used the correct sealer as well.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0552.jpg

Fitted new gray rear bumper and bumper bar, not the correct one for a Sport i know but there's NO chance of me getting a new one of those.

Built up some of the tailgate, bronze tinted glass fitted with new seal.
Fitted brand new rear lights, one being a twin fog euro cluster.
Fitted a brand new early SR spoiler, and pressed metal number plate that I got off Rich.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0554.jpg

Inside as said headlining is in seat belts fitted, rear quarter cards and half of the rear seat also fitted, can't fit the lower half of the seat untill i fit the tank as I'm using a internal pump I need to access the top of the tank.
Handbrake lever is in as are the plastic seat runners.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0555.jpg

In the engine bay I have fitted a new steering rack with new bushes, would of liked new GM ones that are black but they are NLS, so the flo-flex ones will do.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0543.jpg

Rack fitted, not got any track rod ends fitted yet so still have the broom handle in there as well lol. Also fitted a refurbed brake servo base and alternator bracket.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0558.jpg

Also fitted a new oil pressure gauge sender,

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/88cdf770.jpg

Other things I have done are fit the early gray B pillar vinyl, fit 4 branch manifold and spray the rear window surrounds, I used U-Pol mid gray and its too dark so i will re do them with U-Pol Light gray.

Also been sorting out the gear stick unit, cleaned it up and spray the rod with etch primer and silver Hammerite smooth paint, and fitted a brand new Sr/Gte gear stick, gaitor and nob combo I got a little while back.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0547.jpg

Built it back up but not had time to fit it yet.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0549.jpg

I have encountered a few problems on the way tho, first being how to fit the seat belts with the cage as in the pic below, maybe need to chop and weld the bar somehow ?

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0562.jpg

Second being the wiring for the oil pressure sender, got three wires that go down there think one is for the alternator, or 2 ? or is there 2 that go to the oil pressure sender ? And all three have different plugs than the sender?
Help needed me thinks.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SAM_0561.jpg

Edd, the oil sender is a later one which has a multiplug. The correct one has a stud & 6mm male blade. Great work BTW, nice to see it coming along.
Re the seatbelts, I was going to run four point harnesses. There is an extra hole drilled on each side of the rear seat pan for the eye to go through and fit to a strengthening plate.

I had them made at the Classic Car Show at the NEC a couple of years ago. They did them there & then.

Looking fantastic mate :thumb: , not to sound or picky anything like that just noticed but that rear bumper is the wrong one i know coz i did the same lol it should be smooth at the bottom.
And will the rear decal fit ok now the spoiler is fitted?
As for the seat belt could you not take the plastic out put it on the bar first and some how thread it between the cage? it does look tight tho:eek:
I wouldnt cut it coz that means welding it in the car with the carpet fitted would be a nightmare if it cought fire.

I dont really want to fit harnesses so ii hoping there will be a way round it.

i think one is deffo the charge light that goes on the alternator, the one with the ring i think ? Do 2 wires go to the sender ?

Looking fantastic mate :thumb: , not to sound or picky anything like that just noticed but that rear bumper is the wrong one i know coz i did the same lol it should be smooth at the bottom.
And will the rear decal fit ok now the spoiler is fitted?
As for the seat belt could you not take the plastic out put it on the bar first and some how thread it between the cage? it does look tight tho:eek:
I wouldnt cut it coz that means welding it in the car with the carpet fitted would be a nightmare if it cought fire.

Cheers, i know about the bumper, REALLY REALLY want the correct one but cant find a new or as new one anywhere :(.

There is no chance of fitting the seat belt bar behind the cage, no chance lol think i have to look into it further.

The one in the midle goes to the altonater the other 2 go to the snder. Cant see why it wouldnt work mate just make sure by testing it with a oil preasure tester.

Blue with yellow tracer is the signal wire & brown is earth. Just checked early and late and its the same for both so your sender might be off something else like an XE. Either that or the earth stud is not used and the wires both go the the plug.
Do you have a part number for it? I can check on EPC then

**Edit** can you clean the mucky finger prints off the firewall please ;) lol

THIS (http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/VAUXHALL_OIL_PRESSURE_SWITCH_-_90337695N.html) is the sender iv got, Part Number: 90337695N

Sorry, both wire are blue/yellow. I have just been out to the garage and checked mine. Read wiring diagram which shows a wire going to earth and I wrongly presumed it to be a brown earth wire.

Not much use as your sing an SD cage, but theres absolutely no chance with an omp.

However, I put a rear SD cage in a gsi, and we kept the seat belts, we already had the bent metal mounts in, try unbolting cage, then putting them in, then putting cage back?

Been busy .......lol

After realising that I wouldn't have it on the road for the summer I kind of gave up tbh, got some motivation back a few weeks ago.

Mainly been concentrating on the engine bay,

Fitted;
New alloy rad, new rad rubber mountings and new clips
Fitted my other cylinder head with enlarged inlet and exhaust valves, new studs, painted cam housing and head in VHT, fook knows if it will stay on lol, irmscher cam over on top of it all.

Painted Irmscher inlet satin black the sanded back the letters back to match the rocker cover and fitted it.
New header tank, repainted metal water pipe and Roose hoses fitted with stainless jubilee clips.

Few pics;

Pics could be better but can't find my camera so had to use phone.

Found out that the loom in the car is a very early one on NONE of the plugs match the new sensors I have, rad fan, horn, reverse switch, rad stat, plus more need chopping off and correct ones soldering on, lucky I have a spare loom.

More updates over the next few days, just pleased as it looks like iv made some progress. lol
Got to get some tyres for my new wheels next week.

Will the internals of the engine be okay for a turbo conversion, and the compression. Sorry I'm not up on the turbo side of things.

Plug
20-08-10, 08:49 PM
im guessing this courtney one he is buying will have low comp pistons or a spacer plate of some sort

Edd
20-08-10, 08:53 PM
The 1300 engine I'm getting has low comp pistons so they will just need to be fitted, need to speak to Courtenay bout the rings tho. There will be no need for the spacer plate/2 headgasket job, think Courtenay only went down that road due to the cost of custom pistons like the ones I'm getting.

Comes with cast manifold same one I think that came on a 1600 8v turbo conversions, a t2 turbo and down pipe.

Will be a few days work to get it converted once the car is on the road IMO

Will be very unique which is what I'm trying to achieve with my Sport

Nice update, and i love the fact you found a "mint carpet with no console holes" then cut it to fit round the cage! love it... lol

And again engine looks spot on, where you thinking of mounting the afm?
looking in there the most easy place would be to the top mount bolt etc, but would look gash, so the other discreet option is under one of the engine mount nuts..

Scott

Edd
22-09-10, 08:27 PM
Si, Irmscher injection uses alot of 18e parts, mk1 astra gte etc, afm is the same.

Scott, did think that lol done a tidy job though, iv made a bracket up to mount the afm, it will use one on the wing bolts, might look a bit strange, but will only be like that until the turbo engine is ready.

scott.parker
22-09-10, 08:34 PM
Wing bolt is a good idea mate.

Lookin good Edd.

Whats your plans for the exterior you still going for plough, window surrounds, the bigger mirrors and SR rear spoiler?

Edd
22-09-10, 08:59 PM
Exterior plans have changed lol

Sr rear spoiler is on, got a Zender front spoiler to pick up that will go on, small mirrors, and no surrounds, I quickly realised that the surrounds, large mirrors would look out of place.

I have the wheels in my avatar to go on as well.

sport
22-09-10, 09:06 PM
Sounds good, was nearly going the zender front spoiler route aswell but changed my plans at the last moment.

Your wheel thread has also made me change my mind on my RFX`s lol

What cage is it? I've never had problem with gloveboxs in mk1 or mk2 dashs although did have to remove them to fit the cages at first.

Any pics or gen how you put the cage 'feet' under the barpet Edd, did you use shallow head bolts and then just trim the carpet over them?

Edd
25-09-10, 07:08 AM
I just used the bolts that came with the cage and trimmed down the underlay so the carpet wouldn't be raised then cut the carpet round the legs.

Matt, cheers and that stuff on the mount is some sort of cavity wax that Rich put on there, think I'll remove it when I clean the bay after it's altogether in there.

Graeme
25-09-10, 07:10 AM
Cheers Edd, I completely for got there is underlay under the carpet

Been building up my fuel pump, little unsure of the wiring tho

Pic;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/4a67722e.jpg

Pretty sure the red wire goes to the feed from the irmscher injection loom, but not sure about the black ?? Earth ??

Plug
25-09-10, 11:04 AM
yea a pump needs a live feed and an earth :thumb:

scott.parker
25-09-10, 11:37 AM
Im really starting to like the fact that this Sport is going to be somewhat modified from the normal restore jobs, it will defiantly stand out mate..

Scott

craig green
25-09-10, 05:22 PM
Is there a relay from the injection loom? The +ve should feed from that & obviosly earth out the Black wire somewhere local to the pump.

Edd
25-09-10, 05:30 PM
There is but the feed don't come from there as you would expect, it comes straight from the main plug for the ecu

craig green
25-09-10, 05:33 PM
Yeah it's probably looped back in the loom from the relay to the main plug. I'm pretty sure the engines I've played with have been the same.

That black wire needs a nice big ring terminal putting on it & make sure the wire you use to run the length of the car for the +ve is equally as phat as the wires on the pump.

Edd
25-09-10, 05:58 PM
Will do, was thinking of running the earth wire round to where the main car loom is earthed on the rear panel, is that going to be too long a wire ?

Would like to get this sorted before the F1 tomorrow lol

How did yo get the EPAS to fit so well? Any pics of you fitting it and di you have to mod much?

Edd
25-09-10, 09:24 PM
About 6 hours, loads of swearing and cigarettes lol lol lol

Had to remove the lower column mount with a spot weld drill, glad i did as there was quite a bit of rust under there :( weld the nova columns top mount bracket to the epas column, and make a lower bracket and basically lots fiddling.

I'll get some better pics next time I'm working on it.
