Dude i meant to get the carpet in the post to you today, but got stuck into taking my helper spring off my coilovers to get the front lower, once i had been and got the track/toe done 3 times at ETB it was 5.30pm so i missed the post, and now im working tomorrow day/evening and Saturday, so the earliest i can sort it is Monday afternoon.

Glad she's come on well, i hope your coming to billing in it?

Just been in the garage for 10mins, sorted all the fails but the seat belt bracket

Maybe my usual paranoia but the coolent looks a little brown :( maybe just rusty water ways ?

And there is too much travel on the brake pedal even with engine running

Adjust the self adjustment stuff manually on the rear brakes ? Or the bolt on the pedal?
Could bleed the brakes for the 3rd time

Didn't think the pics came out that well tbh, I will get some better ones soon

Thanks for the comments everyone

Novasport
25-05-12, 09:44 PM
There is adjustment on the pedal linkage but careful not to over do it as they can bind.
Run the engine in then drop the coolant and change it when you do the oil.
What seatbelt bracket needs sorting?

Iain
25-05-12, 09:45 PM
Looking swish Edd, much more cosmetic bits to do on the outside?

Not 100% sold on the wheels, maybe a slightly lower stance would help them suit IMO?

The bit that bolts too the seat subframe that your clip the belt into, I didn't bother fitting one lol

Good idea on the coolent

Tbh I have never ever had too adjust the pedal, I will have a look

Thanks mate, think I prefer the GMS spoiler to a plough as well, it will certainly be better for airflow when I fit a intercooler

I have considered the colour of the cage, brown or a matt black are in my thoughts. Still thinking bout taking the front section out

You know what Edd I agree with Keith..... I think it looks fantastic as it is and due to the fact you are doing things differently throughout the whole car to a stock sport I think It would be another way of gaining yet more individuality. Which is rather difficult nowadays to say the least! On another note I hope you make it to the vboa bash In july as Im looking forward to having a look round it. All the best with the retest!

Edit..... I also think the gms bib is the perfect choice as ploughs seem the more obvious way to go nowadays which is not what your build has been about. Its all come together so well Edd quite simply excellent and well done throughout.

I would check your bearing, my MOT friend commented on the front offside wheel bearing when I first re MOT'd the SR, was OK, but thought there was a rumble (it was built with new bearings)

First long run out, Billing 2007 front bearing collapsed on the way home, ended up like:cry:

looks fantastic edd, a real credit to your blood, sweat and tears, i cant wait to get back out in mine(one day lol), for the sake of £12 or so i'd replace the bearing for peace of mind tbh

Royston
28-05-12, 08:05 PM
The bearings are pressed into the hub as you know, there is no adjustment, the cv joint assembly holds it together, they are matched when the bearings are built.

I think I must have brinelled the one that failed when I installed mine, too much effort in the big vice:roll:

Would suggest just changing it, they aren't expensive, just a pain to do, especially just having finished her, just look at what happened to me after I ignored a friendly warning;)

Benn
28-05-12, 08:59 PM
Check the hub nuts are tight. Like crap your pants tight. If there's still play, change them over. Find a branch of my work close and i'll book you one out..lol

Edd
28-05-12, 09:03 PM
just checked the hub nut, its tight, had breaker bar on it and standing on it lol

there is about 4/5 mm of play

new bearing me thinks

hope it dont need new bearings every 35 miles lol

i now thinking it might look good without the decals  lol

think i will fit the matt black B piller vinyl and wind deflectors that i have and make decision about the declas

Well done edd, great to see you out and about in it,

Just a note on the bearings, my mates Astra needed new front bearings after sitting on its wheels with no shafts in it for about 2 years, we were told that due to the hearing not being tight in place caused the failure,

I'd just replace both for good peace of mind, after all it's not a lot of cash to do it.

edd i've got a press if you need me to fit them together for you

This turned up today

For some reason maybe Keith is right sooooo... how about maybe a triple pinstripe down the side in orange red and grey to complement the Sport colours, not in your face and maybe a little stylish... or am I talking crud lol

Im not keen on the pinstripes idea

The dealer sport stripes bit of the decals is a good idea tho

Poll is a good idea as well lol

Cheers Scott, pillar vinyl will go on when im working on it next

Yeah the tri colors in there original place is what might work

It does look like it needs to be lower I agree mate, the small tyres dont help imo, I don't really like a nova too low, but I will look into tho

I'm being maybe thick but which are the dealer stripes besides the ones that are on the bonnet?

scott.parker

Same on bonnet, boot Conner, and each rear arch/ 1/4 top corner dude.

Southie
30-05-12, 08:26 PM
Cheers Scott, did think that but might make the doors look sparce the reason being why I though triple pinstripes down the side.

What you think ?

Novasport

I think the grey fade makes the car, it accentuates the arches.
If you really want to be different go for a totally different design like 400 style etc

Novasport
30-05-12, 09:36 PM
What about the three dealersport stripes large down the side of the car going from the rear quarter up through the door towards the roof but make them fade out like the grey normally would, up or down.

Edd

I think the grey fade makes the car, it accentuates the arches.

I think this too

Not sure, might just be one step too different

Thanks again mate

Still undecided bout the pillar vinyl

At the risk of filling your thread with discussion about lowering, I was thinking only a small amount lower like this to reduce the arch gap, not rim-on-arch stylee. (Open both pics in different tabs and flick between them to gauge how much!)

I love it Edd, but the offset of the wheels annoys me just a little, from a 3/4 angle it looks a little "balanced" on the wheels rather than sitting on them.

Stickers needed too IMO.

Although the one Southie did does look awesome, I bet that low the ride will be crap

Craig reckons it looks perfect but im think not

Will been sorting the height out when im paid next

Frank was saying he might sell it on, I said that would been silly lol think he's had it 12/13 years now

Im working on Craig, reckon he'll crack soon lol

Booked in down the bodyshop for next Thursday :)

Get the decals put on then put away for winter as tax runs out

My mate who's doing the work has been painting cars since we left school nearly 20 years so should be OK mate, he's done all my previous Nova's and both my astra's

Lots of stuff will be happening over winter

EPAS column going back on
Corsa b servo conversion/relocate battery to rear passenger footwell
Sort the ride height out, I have got some FK spring mounts for the front which lowers by 15mm, rear either rear weld the stub axle plates 20mm higher or different spring
Wire in heated front screen
Fit immobilizer
Fit new lock set as I have now adapted the saloon boot lock to work on hatch tailgate
Possibly get my other tailgate painted and fit Zender rear spoiler

If I have time after that lot lol I will start fitting the turbo set up as I only need a intercooler and a turbo rebuild for it now

Small update

My mate let me down on the bodywork as he has just had a customer wanting a VW splity camper van wanting a full restoration with money no object so I understand as he was doing mine for next to nothing profit wise

Got this through today, corsa B battery tray, £9 so happy, going to mount it on the floor behind the passenger seat

going to mount the tiny amp raised off the back of the glove box then just plug my iPod in it, all of it cost £18 so happy with that

eBay mate, SNIP SNIP, NAUGHTY EDD! try that ;)

Craig has given/lent me some Courtenay rear springs to try, when they used to make their own, think they will lower the rear by 10/15mm, so will try them first before looking into other ways of sorting the rear height

Opinions please people

Seriously considering a corsa B servo conversion due to wanting to free up space in engine bay for AFPR, oil catch tank and vacuum manifold when I fit the turbo stuff

BUT if you were me would you really want to cut a hole in a MINT battery tray for the servo conversion?

Novasport
05-10-12, 07:06 PM
No. Can you not find other places to hide the bits?

Edd
05-10-12, 07:11 PM
I could but it's going to start looking messy I reckon, pipes going everywhere etc

Plus that crap brake linkage bar thing behind the dash is a shocking design, I bet corsa A LHD brakes are awesome due to not having that bar

craig green
05-10-12, 07:47 PM
I bet corsa A LHD brakes are awesome due to not having that bar

Thats a bit of an exageration. Maybe marginally better, remember how pish-poor standard Nova calipers are!
I say do the pedal conversion so long as you do it right, reinforce the bulkhead join, shorten the pedal nicely & make a really tidy effort re-routing the brake pipes.
If you keep the hole of metal that gets cut out, it could always be welded back in place, LOL.

FPRs can be hidden nicely if you plan it out, look at mine. Oil catch tank? What for? Run it back in and let the engine breath how it was built to.
No to cutting the big hole. Just plan everything out and it will work. I offer any help i can give.

See above and yeah they must have great brakes.

06-10-12, 12:23 AM
Don't cut the pedal if you go the corsa b route, shorten the bracket the pedal sits in and then just straighten the pedal, otherwise the pivot point will be way out and the pedal ratio will be all to shot
Come and have a look at my nova to see what I mean

Have you considered a different master cylinder in the stock location and perhaps use the servo that accompanies the master - or fabricate something and then run a remote servo?

Ive got plenty of vehicles you can come and try different thing off

I use a 406 master cylinder and servo on my mi16 - perhaps that's modifyable

Thanks Rich, I'm no expert at all, just trying my best to do things to the highest standard I know how

I got the caps off here, venom motorsport or places on eBay do them, made by FK, think there £20, ideal cost wise for 10mm drop

EPAS, lol complete nightmare lol still fiddling with it, the main problem I had was the ignition barrel lining up, think I've got round this by chopping a nova column in half and welding it to the corsa on

Need welding gas tho

Once I've finished it I reckon doing another would be easy, it's just getting everything right measurements etc, at this stage to make it fit

The Nova & Corsa B ignition barrell's sit in different positions/angles on the column so the hole needs moving or you cannot fit the shroud.

I think they just fit under the original ones so the spring is slightly more compressed

The cap overall height is shallower than the old one. It completely replaces the old spring retaining cap effectively shortening the top mount assembly.

No lol

A genuine 55k C16SE lump

I will either use the head, cam and carrier to lower the CR on the standard 1300 bottom end for the turbo conversion

Or, build up a low compression 1600 engine, but I have doubts about going away from the 1300 as it's not really in keeping with the Sport

Not sure???

Either way the turbo stuff going happen a bit quicker now

Thought about weighing it in, changed my mind and pulled the dust sheet off it few weeks ago to do some actual work on it

Engine bay wise I was pissed off with the Fast and Furious cone filter, looked crap and i suspected it was making the car run and start equally crap

Looked for ages for a Irmscher air box, got fed up with looking so decided to make a GTE one fit

Cleaned and painted the box and AFM, got a few silicone bends and made it all fit, looks ok imo, will only be on there till next winter when the front end will have full strip down ready for turbo stuff

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/DSC_0005.jpg

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/DSC_0001.jpg

Also got rid of the breather pipe that went to the TB, 15mm of the block to 7mm at the TB was crap imo so fitted a small filter and blanked of the TB bit, again this will be changed when the turbo bits go on

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/DSC_0006.jpg

Was also fed up with the ICV pipe work so got a small adapter a few silicone bends and mounted the ICV on the back of the inlet manifold
