What do you need two sets for ?! lol

Fancy selling me a set ?

If not I like the ones in that link might get them, as much as I didn't want White wheels I would probably get my painter mate to do them

Few bits turned up today so hopefully get it started this weekend

Novasport
18-03-11, 02:37 PM
You know me, have two or three of everything lol
No, not for sale sorry :(

Edd
18-03-11, 02:50 PM

But how many parts do you need !?! lol

Think I'll get the 15's in the link later

I think they look good, they're quite a solid looking wheel and not very common.

Edd

Will they look too modern tho ?

I dont think so. They are quite an angular wheel, not curvy if you know what I mean so suit the shape of the car. The raised angular spoke reminds me of the bonnet on a Nova with the centre crease.
Oooh, being all arty farty therelol

Benn
18-03-11, 09:28 PM
Try them out Edd, if they don't look right sell them on.

BTW did you show how you fitted the EPAS? Cant remember seeing it.
Did you have to relocate the fuse box?

Edd
18-03-11, 10:22 PM
There is a couple pics

Tbh it still needs a tweak or two just being concentrating ion getting it running

Will put some pics up when finished

You don't need to move the fuse box on a mk1

Edd......... Are you selling the polished wheels because they wont fit without rolled arches or is their another issue with fitment? If its down to the arch issue Id say you were crazy!! The wheels would probably be the only set you'll ever see around on a nova so totally exclusive and as I seem to remember you needing one arch painting due to a scrape and it wouldnt take much more to have the other side done after both have been rolled. Done properly their wouldnt even be any need for filler and If you got in touch with Ade culley he could tell you what paint was used so a perfect match could be achieved also. At the end of the day its just my opinion and I dont know the ins and outs but you obviously really wanted them wheels on the car so Id just sort the arches to suit. You'll be gutted if you sell and see them on another nova a little down the line!

Nick.

Edd
22-04-11, 12:26 PM
Thanks for the advice Nick

With a standard bean in the rear the tyre catches on the off side very slightly

I'm still a little unsure that I want to be rolling mint arches rear arches tho

The fronts is the problem really, if the fronts were rolled they would clear no doubt, just didn't want to ruin a set of genuine wings

I may speak to my bodywork guy to see what he says

Is rolling arches a job for someone in the trade?

I will be gutted if I see them on another Nova your right Nick

Is there any way of getting hold of Ade Culley ? As my painter mate already wants to know what paint was used

id role them too edd if its done right it wont ruin the wings and would be unique when done

If you have a local bodyshop that is trustworthy I really dont see it being a problem Edd. Look back at how we tapered my front wings and rear arches for a more standard look in my thread. If arches are sealed up properly they will last for years especially if your only ever going to use it in good weather? I would say as Ade worked for a vw/audi dealer at the time he painted that shell they will have been using a quality paint system such as Glasurit or ICI which is exactly what we use at work but with a bmw label. Im sure Rich could give you some info and a number for him or If not Im sure I know someone who will have it and can pass it on. What you need to know is the paint manufacturer, Whether he used solid colour or base and clear and what shade he used which I presume will be standard. Get them sorted, stick on a stock rear beam and away you go! Any help you need I can gladly advise just drop me a pm anytime.

Nick.

Benn

As Nick said, as long as they are rolled proplely you wont have a prob.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll speak to my friend Matt who has his own bodywork business I'm sure he'll be able to roll them, he's been in the trade 20+ years and has painted a few of my cars and has done my Zender bumper and will be doing the arch scrape

I'll ask Rich for some more details on the paint that was used

The arches on the rear look so factory tho lol shame to roll them lol

The fronts deffo need doing, but I might see if anything can be done to give just a few mill on the rear with a standard beam in

what about getting the wheel hubs milled by a few mm to give the clearence

Edd

Think there might be something that can be done on the rear, wheel, drum or the stub axle plate on the beam can have 2/3mm taken off

Edd, I am sure I gave you a paint sample with the car, would be with all the paperwork.
Its a piece of very thin metal which is painted one side and has the manufacturer and other details written on the back.
Its not ICI or the other one mentioned by Nick but it is a well known paint manufacturer. Ade was not working for VW at the time, it was a general bodyshop chain from the North West but I cannot remember the name.

Bit of a update-

I managed to speak to Ade Culley yesterday, who painted the shell, he told me in detail what was used so I can pass the info on to my mate who's going to the paint work

I also spoke to Matt ( chap with the bodyshop ) about rolling the front arches, he said he had a tool to do them with :)

So, polished wheels are staying :d trip to the bodyshop in 6/7 weeks (got to get mot before that tho :( ) and I might yet make Billing in it :)

At least it runs now wish no issues, wouldn't recommend poly exhaust rubbers to any one tho lol I'll have to change them to standard, waaaayyy to much vibration

You use the orange ones off ebay? I just got some off of rallydesign, and they're a lot more 'rubbery' than the ones I had before off ebay, much closer to the standard ones but obviously stronger, shouldn't have too much vibration to them I would have thought!

Got them out the packet and thought of you x lol

Actually that's a lie it took me ages to find out who was complaining about exhaust polybushes, thought it was Iain!

Edd
04-05-11, 03:31 PM
lol it actually ain't the exhaust rubbers it was the solid rear mount lol

MK999
04-05-11, 03:34 PM
I did think at the time I never noticed anything in mine with them, but it vibrated/rattled anyway so I probably wouldn't lol

Anyway, rallydesign exhaust bushes, very good lol Come in yellow too! :d

Edd
23-06-11, 11:01 AM
Firstly no pics at all

Secondly, FOOKING PISSED OFF WITH THE SCRAP PILE   lol

It's very nearly ready for a MOT but more problems keep arising :(

Pristine Wheels who refurbished the alloys blasted the powdercoating on and it's covered the brass bits that the wheel bolts sit on to, so only about 1mm of the taper on the bolt touches, so I'll have to Dremel all the powdercoat out of the 16 holes ffs

On a good note I've re fitted the front wings and I'm now confident that the fronts won't catch

Also dropped another beam, but standard, down the powdercoaters, will fit that when it's back and run it with washers on the two lower stub axle bolts to make the rears not catch the arch, wish I'd thought of that in the first place tbh

Finally the thing that's pissed me off is the rust spot that coming through in the centre of the roof

I swear it's only come through in the last few months as I polished the roof 6/7 months ago

It's was noticed by me then friend who painting the arch and front spoiler says it looks like some sort of contamination in the primer/e coat

So this statement of SPL is spot on

Dont bother with acid dipping, its expensive and not worth the hassle IMO.
The only place that I know of is SPL and I would not trust them to dip a digestive in a mug of tea now after the issues I had.

The rust spot is about the size of a 10p coin, would post a pic but it didnt come out well, will take another later.

Mate reckons to get rid of it he wants to paint the whole roof ! he said he'd spot it in but might look out of place  whole roof involves taking the screen out ffs :(

Soooo,

part of me wants to just leave it all till next year as it's pissed me right off :(
or could persevere with the other problems and get the roof spotted in ?
Then get the roof done over the winter ?
But I did want it pretty much perfect for when it's on the road ?
Plus I'm tighter on cash than when I started build it :(

Not sure what to do with it now tbh

:(:(:(:(

Just get the roof spotted ATM and stick with it, the paint will hardly be faded as the cars never been used lol,

Hopefully it'll give you a break soon, or you might end up " doing a merris " lollollol

I was thinking about this when I have had an issue with rubbing my arches, have you considered machining the face of the rear drum which the wheels mount to, it has a lip and is slightly thicker where the wheel mounts to it, you could remove some material from there. Even if you can only get 1 maybe 2mm removed, it all adds up. I am considereding machining a set of drums down a mm or two on mine.

I have been thinking about taking sone of the drum as well Paul, I will look into that for sure at a later date, washers cost less and that's important ATM lol

Bit of a update ;

I decided not to set eyes on it for a week or so after the roof issues lol

One of the main hold ups has been me waiting to get these;

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/12baace0.jpg

There new seals for the front doors, the 2 small ones that go down the metal pillar that divides the front quarter glass and the main seals that run on the top of the door and down the back edge

I already have the front quarter seals and outer and inner bottom seals

I had to wait fo them as they were kindly sorted out by Steve/duick and picked up by Rich/Novasport on his recent trip to see Steve, then delivered to Craig at Billing lol

Big thanks to Rich and Craig for getting them to me, cheers guys

Today I had a call from the powdercoaters to say the my other beam is ready so I now have everything to finish it

I set my self a bit of a deadline to have it MOT'd in 5 weeks

I'll post up some more pics of what's happening over next few days

Edd
07-07-11, 09:10 PM
I agree it's a better solution

The washer idea can't be that bad tho as it's in the group a nova build manual

Will get some shims when I get paid, ran out of nova money this month :( lol

Washers is pikey in some respects, but such a thin washer on the bottom holes makes a helluva difference at the top edge of the tyre.

Edd
07-07-11, 09:58 PM
No idea on the exact degree of camber I need lol

Just need to move the top of the wheel in about 5/6mm

Those Eibach camber shims might be too much tho ??? Don't want it looking like some ratted scene car with stupid camber lol

07-07-11, 10:20 PM

Edd
07-07-11, 10:25 PM
Hopefully get it MOT'd sometime in the first 3 weeks in August as I'm off work then

Tbh I'm dying to drive it :) the 1300 sounds sweet :d

Got to make sure it's altogether to my liking first, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel now :)

Please save your self from the Ford pain lol

Southie
07-07-11, 10:30 PM
Edd, I'm jealous of your car and only because its a cracking Nova that's got a few little differences I like (mainly wheels) lol

I've now power steering, but no power from the gas peddle lol

Edd
15-07-11, 07:56 PM
Had a few hours on the Nova today :)

Started build up the doors now I have the seals

Sprayed the door handles and look surrounds

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/07eefa34.jpg

Painted the metal pillar in satin black

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/7cd058e2.jpg

Fitted it and used some new original screws

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/117e95ef.jpg

Cleaned all the glass, fitted it all with new seals, as the outer seals the runs horizontal on the door are NLS I got some corsa b ones and cut them down to fit :) look fine IMO

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/7a3ceb16.jpg

Fitted a new lock latch and a original tyre pressure sticker

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/5de6b60f.jpg

Was going to fit the doorcard but rain kicked in so couldn't get it outside

I'll crack on with the other side tomorrow

Slowly getting there lol

I was very pissed off about but probably came across as a ASW about it, I'm calm about it now lol not like it's on a spot weld or anything, will get sorted as soon as I have it on the road when the arch and Zender front spoiler is done

When I cleaned the inside it was spotless before I applied the Epoxy mastic paint. Has it broken through or is it under the paint?

It's on the outside of the roof Rich

Bout a spot that's as big as a 20p coin

Painter mate says in his experience it looks like something has contaminated the primer, I would suspect some form of fcuk up from SPL tbh as I couldn't imagine Ade making as mess of it

He said he'll need to take it back to metal to get rid, but as the paint is newish spotting it in will be ok

Thing is it's only appeared over the last 4/5 months  rust, or whatever it is hasn't come through just bubbling under paint

I'm cool about it tho, wasnt when I found it tho lol

Novasport
17-07-11, 09:48 PM
Hope its not rust, cant think it would be as the metal was spotless before I Epoxy'd it. Outside was fine before Ade painted it, he only put a few fine skims of filler on due to a couple of very light dents. Whether its any of that or not.

Edd
17-07-11, 09:53 PM
I'll get a pic of it tomorrow

Everyone who's seen it can't say it's rust for sure, guess I won't know till it's sanded off

Got paid today :) which felt like I have been waiting forever for lol

So the Sport is now insured, done it with HIC, only place that will touch me with the cage I think, got agreed value on it as well

-Ordered the camber shims
-found after lots of searching a new genuine LH ATE caliper
-new GM front pads, off eBay for £3.50

Got another set of yellow needle clocks to strip down and reset millage to zero

So I'm now sorted for all parts apart from a passenger mirror base, hopefully sort one soon

Roof has some kind of reaction in the paint, bout the size of a 20p coin, bit strange as it's only appeared in last few months

At the time I found it, it seemed like the build was going backwards, just hope it all comes together in next few weeks so I can get some use out of it before I put it away for the winter

Edd

01-08-11, 05:58 PM
Ah yes i remember now..

Funny thing is in last 3-4 months Ive noticed a small 20p size patch that kind of bubbled/blistered on my track car's roof, it's really random, looks like bird poo acid burn, but it's under the laqure..

Been finishing off the rear beam swap today, Eibach camber shims are on, no doubt there is some special jig thing to set these up but I've just set it so the top of the wheel tilts in more lol thanks to Iain also for pointing me in the direction of the shims

Also fitted some new brake back plates that have been powdercoated as I wasn't happy with the painted ones

Oh another massive tip from me here, switch back to the GM banjo bolts on the calipers, them Goodridge kit one's are ****! far to weak, the dished head leaves about 3mm of material to ware it joins to rest of the bolt and then the hole is not much father through, I'm sure i posted in my track car about it, mine sheared of trying to nip it back up after i swapped them round, so you may need new compression washers too if you do switch anything about etc..

Edd
08-08-11, 09:20 PM

I've just spent the afternoon over at Edd's, credit where it's due, he spent most of the time fiddling about with his dash clocks in bits on the dining room table.
The Sport looks great, its getting closer to MOT'ing everytime I see it. I cant wait for a ride.

Managed to get hold of these for £20

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2054b7df.jpg

Brand new Hella headlights, the front end might actually line up now as the Lucas ones I had were a crap fit

Hopefully bleed the brakes tomorrow then get it outside for a good clean and some pics :)

Still got handbrake cable issues tho :( can't seem to get them to tighten up hopefully that might sort it self when the brakes are bled through

Spoke to Mark earlier mate, hopefully be over to yours before you go south lol

I started the Sport today, first time since we've moved, a neighbour 2 doors down came over to ask/tell me it was too loud and this ain't the cul-de-sac to have such cars  lol
the joys of moving to the quite part of town, I quickly informed him he'll have to used to it :d :d :d wasn't rude but he got the idea when I blipped the throttle F lol

small update

I've been searching for ages for a new small passenger mirror

got told that a place in Holland have them :) few bits turned up today

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/IMAG0002.jpg

got a set of bumper brackets as well

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/IMAG0004.jpg

and a original unleaded sticker that goes underneath the petrol cap

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/IMAG0005.jpg

got a few other bits as well more on those at a later date

atm I'm struggling to get it finished, I have considered leaving the MOT till the spring as I'm short on cash, and things like wasps nest keeping cropping up lol

will keep working on it over next few days to see if I can sort all the little jobs for MOT

Edd

Royston
05-09-11, 06:46 PM
My SR never had an unleaded sticker, as unleaded petrol didn't come out till @ 87/88 iirc she use to run on 4 star, until it was phased out:mad:.

So the Sport's wouldn't have had them either;)

Looking good though, nice to catch up with you last week;)

Edd
05-09-11, 06:51 PM
my C reg 1.0 had one tho I think ?

it was only €1 anyway lol

Royston
05-09-11, 07:01 PM
Maybe the stickers were fitted after the timing had been tinkered with to suit unleaded;) (ignition retarded 3-4 degs)

Edd
05-09-11, 07:13 PM
could be

ill just fit it as ill be using unleaded lol

was good to meet you too, thanks very much for bringing the parts down as well :)

Edd
06-09-11, 09:36 PM
Well after working on the nova today I have made the decision to leave the MOT till the new year

To much to do, just small fiddly jobs really, and to little cash

Don't want to rush it for the sake of a few days driving before even worse weather kicks in

not sure 100% its the right thing to do ?

on another note more bubbling is happening on the roof so it looks like the whole roof will need to be painted which has annoyed me to say the least

bled the brakes through today, and sorted the front bumper with flashes, some pics over next few days

Edd

abznovasport
06-09-11, 09:53 PM
Is this bubbling a result of acid dipping Edd?

Edd
06-09-11, 10:03 PM
possibly

bazil
07-09-11, 01:59 AM
I think you have done the right thing chief, get it out next year when it's perfect :)

Alex J
07-09-11, 09:23 AM
on the acid dipping thing, i used to do that for a job, once the item, weather it be a part or whole car has been dipped, all that is needed to be done is wash of with water to
neutralise the acid mix,(i used to use a jet wash) if the paint is lifting, it either has acid in the shell still, or was not treated propley before any primer was added

abznovasport
07-09-11, 10:15 AM
I'v known such a hard descision to make between acid and blasting!

Edd totally agree with not MOT'ing it. Not sure where you live but up here winter is just round the corner! Fine chance to get garage cosy for cold nights and then work on car in no hurry ready for the spring.

Edd
07-09-11, 10:28 AM
I wouldn't get it dippped tbh, waste of cash imo

I live in Somerset, it's not that bad yet tbh weather wise, but I won't have cash to MOT till end of month, it will bet wet then and that's a no no

Gives me chance to make it perfect if i wait over the winter

Benn
07-09-11, 08:47 PM
Its looking bloody close to perfect now dude....

I didn't know your shell had been dipped.

Edd
15-11-11, 06:46 PM
I haven't forgotten about this lol

been doing a few small jobs to finish it off :)

was a nice day today so got it outside, i got a few pics after i cleaned it, will post them up when i can make my photobucket work :(

I have sorted some paint for the bits that need painting on the body, managed to get the exact paint that Ade Culley used when he originally painted it so will all look proper

After looking round it today ive confused myself with a few bits tho lol

Do i fit the Zender front spoiler on it ? not sure if it will look right ? Or just fit the OE lower trims ?

I have managed to get a new Zender rear top rear spoiler and im now thinking of getting that fitted ? but again not sure ? lol

Kinda thinking of the original styling now but i then think the wheels will look out of place and it will look like all the other Sports lol

Edd

NOV4_SPORT
15-11-11, 07:15 PM
We need pics or it never happened edd flol, if its the zender spoiler i have on mine, then i would say yeh get it fitted as its a nice spoiler and suits the car imo.

Small update;

Took the decision of selling the two Zender front spoilers I had to fund this lot

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2011-12-19150731.jpg

New set of GM front fog set, fog light surrounds to fit a Snowplough and 8 new screw covers

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2011-12-19150917.jpg

And a brand new snowplough, should of never sold my other new one few months back

Need to dig out my new set of clips and get the cutting instructions off Rich

Pleased ive managed to sort it all as dont think the Zender one would of looked right

I did have some pics of its outside but cant get them off my phone :(

Once this is moved/scrapped I will be able to get it outside again lol

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2011-12-19151234.jpg

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2011-12-19151245.jpg

Got a few other bits lately, new GM rubber rear mats, Heko window deflectors, matt black vinyl for the B pillers and paint for the bumper flashes

So I am still working on it lol

Edd

Calamity Josh
19-12-11, 04:40 PM
looking good...where'd you find the plough and fogs for the price of the two spoilers?!

Edd
19-12-11, 04:43 PM
the spoilers covered the cost of the fogs, surrounds etc

the lady got me the 'plough for christmas :)

Southie
19-12-11, 04:43 PM
Did Rich sell you that set by any chance? I was going to buy one off him a few years back but my funds ran out lol

Lucky sod but will just finish the front off nicely, spray it white I dare you lol

Edd
19-12-11, 04:48 PM

After some opinions please :)

I had a thought, would this rear bumper look good ? Sprayed grey too match all the rest of the grey exterior stuff

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/SC20120107-195754.jpg

Or just stick with the standard one?

I thinking it could look out of place, but could look good

bazil
07-01-12, 08:09 PM
IMO you'd need the front one aswell, it'll look a little odd having a smooth rear bumper and a front with the ribs, a bit like a mk2 rear bumper on a mk1, plus it ain't cheep ( I recognise the picture )

Just my opinion tho, feel free to ignore it lol

Edd
07-01-12, 08:43 PM
lol ok I will lol no, every opinion is good

Tbh I would probably spray it first with some texture paint if I was going to do it

scott.parker
07-01-12, 08:44 PM
Edd i think it would look **** to have just that on the rear, stick to standard, or try a GTE lip?

Edd
07-01-12, 09:05 PM
Think it might not be a good idea after all now

Scott, I have tried a gte rear on there, didnt like it tbh

think I need too scrap the nova blocking my garage get the sport outside andy get the bloody thing finished really lol
