Looks like it is calibrated 500RPM short then, you can add about 6% for free lol Call it 246 :p
Lol cheers mate I have been told that if anything a dyno dynamics reads a little under so maybe it's is nearly 250bhp
Sort out a cold air feed and I'm sure you'd see a pretty good improvement.

Sort out a cold air feed and I'm sure you'd see a pretty good improvement.
Would you recommend an airbox of sorts or just some pipe to the filter
Enclosed airbox is definitely the best way as it's then a direct feed rather than relying on the cold air blowing enough to the filter if that makes sense, a well designed airbox will actually increase power as well.
Interesting plot. Where was peak power on the dyno sheet ?
Air filter can make a fair bit of difference to the power, not sure I'd expect to lose as much as you did though. Only thing I'm still puzzled by, how did it make nigh on 250 on the dyno and around 190 when you first run it at Speckys ? 230hp is very dissapointing power for the spec, I'd really want to be investigating where the power has gone as I know 230 is a lot but not on a engine of that specification IMO
Result on the rods btw, good service there from PEC :)

Peak power was around 7500 for bhp and torque 5000

I think that maybe because peak power is 7500ish cams are not making the most of the 2mm head, if the cams peaked the power at 8k+ then that power figure would be a lump more.

So many rod designs out there... even H sections can differ a great deal, could I ask how much a set of those are these days / and or how much you just paid?
Yeah looking at the graph that power curve is extremely similar to an old 8V I have with a piper 285 cam in it; aren't you on some really lairy profiles with solid lifters?
I need to get mine on a dyno to see the curve mine makes with AST1612's, but it feels how that looks.

They are about £500 delivered and dave knocked a few % off mate ;) the cams are piper pick up cams on solid lifter aswell

As the engine is comming back to me, I am going to see if I can get a deal to re-test the engine with the original map.
A pick up engine using smaller valves on carbs will make more power than what was seen on the rollers, so something is wrong.
With those cams and +2mm valves power to 8000+rpm with a gear shift point of about 8300rpm.
Blue sprint/Hart Power's engine dyno is thought to be accurate when compared with other engine dynos and rolling roads.
Steve
you'd see much more of an increase if you put a banging donk on it

Nice to see you cracking on with it mate! wanna sell the old rods?
Is that bluesprint place in maldon? if so how much do they charge? and did they do a running in procedure for you?
Mine siezed on the rollers lol still to strip it yet not looking forward to it!

Morning all just thought id give a bit of an update. I picked the engine back up on sunday, the end replacements were a new set of bearings only. Even the rods are re usable but as I have a bull in a china shop attitude and bought the rods before assesing the issues the new rods were put in. Also the block was chemically washed out, the pump was inspected and found to be fine aswell, so ill be putting it back in on sat i think ready for outlaw.
I know we all think that I have fallen in the the **** and come out smelling of roses with this failure. and as steve said if the engine had ran a bit longer it would have been game over so I have been extreamly lucky again lol.
Update on new part to go on:
the oil pressure line is now going to be ran in teflon overbraided pipe & torques/aeroquip style fittings ( the pipe is rated at 273c and 1000psi).
ive also bought a TX radiator to try and keep the coolant temps down.
and im changing my single 10"slim fan to 2x 8" slim fans.
Ive also ordered a different fuel fille cap to mount in the window rather than taking the boot off to fill up.
Im also thinking about running the return lines in aeroquip style hose and fittings, fitting a oil cooler and changing the bonnet catches to aerocatches ont the back aswell.
Ill upload pics later.
Cheers Gareth
Good to hear your still cracking on with it.

Cheers mate in hind sight the jubilee clips may not have been the best idea but it wasn't the clips that failed at pv, i was using them to suit but that won't happen now

just left to turn up is the rubber braided hose/fittings for the return oil lines, a new rubber engine mount and the fueling gear i need.

A bit of a update. The engine is back and sorted just got the fuel hoses, throttle cables, and some other bits on the induction side to fit. I thought I would have had it running today but I have been given the wrong fittings for the remote oil filter housing :( so I'm hoping by the weekend it will be up to a standard of testing ready for outlaw at pod. I'll get some pics chucked up if anybody is interested ;)

Your fans look like mine but a bit bigger, they cool the rad down really well and quickly.

I'll put a full pic'd update asap stee.
Cheers been when we wired them in and tested them there was a massive difference in the airflow I'm hoping it keeps it a alot cooler saying that the rad was about goosed. Btw these are 8" fans mate

Is that an of the shelf rad or one youve had made?
Maybe my next purchase as mine is the original & 21yrs old & pretty sure starting to weep a little.

Looks like a TX Autosport special. Work fine for a NA engines, not much of a improvement over a stock one but easier to chop about to fit where you like.

Heard mixed reviews on TX rads regarding poor welds & leaking from brand new.
I've had a few that leak but just had them re welded. You get what you pay for I guess !

As jonelm said its from tx autosport I haven't put water in the system yet but the welds seem to be ok. I personally don't know anybody running one but the core is thicker than my gsi and a doubt it will be any worse ;)
It will be fine mate, the other option is about £400 so quite a increase in price !

That option is out of my budget now after new rods, steves cut, the upgraded lines/fittings and all the other bits I've picked up there won't be much change from £1500 :(
Harsh but could of been a LOT worse.
I'm sure it will be worth it in the end

i have a tx autosport rad in mine and its good, keeps temps at a constant 75 degrees when driving, it hasnt started leaking yet so thats a bonus

Hi all update time mangaed to get it started and running last night with no other issues aprt from a small fuel leak from the rail. So hopefully tonight it will be on its wheels ready for some light testing at the weekend with a view to get it checked on the rollers next weekend then run it at santa pod if I can get the last few jobs done which are:
moddify the pedal box as i dont think its braking on the back.
fix the drivers door/iwndow.
set the tie bars up.
Paint the roll cage
new fuel filler (if it ever turns up)
Mesh the grill.
I have some pics to upload and if I get the chance tonight ill do it properly ;)
Cheers Gareth
Nice work! Did you get the engine back all run in so you can use it from the word go?

Finally I was having issues with my ****e fuel tank filler so decided to get this done
http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx256/gaffs2000/DSC04293.jpg
Im hoping ill get it tested this weekend for the drive to track n road for the guru's to scare the holy hell out of me with the car.

To be honest mate I don't know the clutch has given me a minor set back an I'm still waiting for my fuel filler cap to arrive it's been nearly 3weeks since I ordered it

Small update seeing as its been a few months since I added to this. We had it down to EFI parts at the weekend and it made 253bhp @ 201ftlb I know it not quite the 275bhp as the title says but it's still a good achievement. So as long I can keep the car in one piece I'm going to see if I can break into the 12's with it.
Video of the final run, watch out for the cheeky flame ;)

Hi mate there was last year probs not the progress that people were wanting but after the car made its debut into total Vauxhall I broke it up and sold it for bits, hard thing to do but it makes way for something else to be played with. So the car as it was is no longer :(

That's an upset :(
~ That power curve looks proper similar to the old 1400 I had (beit on a higher scale), pick up is great after some lumpy low revs :D

Yeah I know mate it was a good run unfortunately it seems the guy who bought the engine had his car stolen in the new year so chances are the engine is no more :(
