why is it everyone says dont do work to a clean n rust free shell?
i would have thought do it to a clean n rust free shell then you dont need to worry about it rotting or collapsing under the c20let f28's weight,
if anyone can let me into a logical explanation to put my mind at rest please do,
vaughanmc

Fair enough some mint original shells should stay original but I'd only say that about an old SR or GSi or something
But a mint 1.0 base model shell is absolutely ripe for a bigger engine :)
Top work fella!
discoinferno
26-12-08, 09:00 PM
thanks for the comments
the shell imo was perfect for what i planned it was the lowest spec - a 1.0
a gsi gte sr etc are worth keeping standard nothing else is imo, but i paid the money to buy the car, its my car i shall do with it what i please, if i had found a gsi or gte in the same condition for the same money i wouldve probably done the same
i wanted the best shell i could find it just happened to be a base model

i cant either, i have spent way more than i ever intended initial thoughts were while down the pub "lets build an let nova, we ve done xe's small blocks and tb's and carbs, we'll just build one on phase 2, hang on we'll scrap the corsa and take the engine out of it and put it in a nova shell for some fun"
its kind of snowballed out of control, i now have an engine i bought from my brothers old corsa whihc ran 299bhp sat next to the nova unused and a new engine which when finished will have cost me over 5-6k i reckon once running
will be worth it though hopefully

Can I offer some advice? Your alterntor earth strap - rather than bolt it to the adjuster, try and find somewhere on the body to bolt it on. I hade the adjuster bolt vibrate lose on mine, earth fell off and it then starting arcing on the fuel lines eventually burning through. I cought it in time but it could of been a very unhappy PVS that year!

Good choice on ECU! Any reason why you chose it?
A mates going to run his bike bodies on it and I want to get it for my R1s down the line too. For us it was a case of Dave Walker only being 45mins down the road.
From what I was told today the ECU comes with 1 map to get you going then for around £250+VAT they'll spent the day mapping it and put 3 maps on there for you. Is that normal with most custom management mappers?
Its what his mapper-friend likes to play with..
The first rule of map-club is that you buy the ECU/management that your favourite resident mapper prefers....

 WOW! Cant believe i hadn't seen this project before, the car looks amazing mate really good work, should be awesome when its ripping up the road too. Are you going to be making supports for the turbo/manifold, i know a couple of people who have ran similar/bigger turbo's and had issues with their manifolds, its clear your manifold is of excellent quality, but i wouldnt want to risk even a small crack personally. Also how much was the emerald engine management? Ive been looking at Omex 600 but still unsure what to go for. Keep it up :thumb:

scrap price is high at the moment
especially with the weight of that turbo and manifold

gary bought the car with the gte stickers on and the bumpers and the interior which has since been ripped out, it makes sense to use the gte bumper as it will help hide the rad and the charge cooler pre rad! as we'll have to mount them quite far forward ( the bigger conceals everything as with a one piece bumper you would see the rads etc sticking out past the crossmember and would look a bit odd imo) to clear the rather large turbo and manifold! but surely it doesnt matter about the gte stickers, as its not an original 1.0 anymore either!

went to see the nova at alimax today. had to go and see how they were getting on , and to have a chat about which direction we wanted to go with regards to the radiators
the fuel cell is in the boot and looks fantastic, 2litre swirl pot is also mounted, fuel pump brackets made,
hopefully by the end of the week the nova should have some rather sexy ally rads squeezed in the front.
i can then set about getting the car ready for mapping which is booked for the middle of april.
not alot of things todo , bleed brakes, fit loom and ecu, wire in dash, starter wiring, some cables for the battery relocation
no pictures but when i get it back and washed i will get some up hopefully all finished

little bit of an update the car is now home, massive thanks to gareth (G8WCC) for letting me store/build the car at his workshop for so long!
now i have a new house and a garage, i got it home!
Will_F and i towed it the 3 miles back to my house using his xe'd combo :D
i have done a fair bit of work on it, since i ve had it back home, so much easier to just pop into the garage:d, engine bay wiring's been re routed so it wont burn on the manifold, washer jet bottle relocated and wired up, oil cooler installed and pipework made, wiring inside the car has been tidied up (not 100% yet), brakes are now fully functional ( no handbrake exhaust got in the way so will plumb in an hydraulic one once the disc'd rear beam goes on!), sorted out the idle as i am no using an iscv i have had to open the butterfly slightly to get it to idle, its a bit tight getting access to the screw but bit of playing about sorted it!
