mental visualisation is one of the most important things to have in a building job like this... a lot of people do not possess it...

Been watching what you been up to mate, but not posted, its a very good idea what your doing, at first i thought you had lost the plot! lol
My advise is move the soil/clay off the drive while we have some dry frosty weather, obviously essayer to move if its frozen and not a sticky mess etc..
Good work keep it up, and then start work on your nova again once its in there.

get one of those on site concrete companies....it is way cheaper than trying to mix it yourself....
L33 LEG
14-02-11, 05:26 PM
.
2m3 concrete.... £300 from a mini mix onto a sheet or in 2 barrows down into your garage that will take 30 mins or less (but if you pay cash on order, there is no waiting time)
2 bags sand £80
2 bags stone £80
40 bags cement £160
time taken for L33LEG to mix it at 100kg a time.......5 hrs??
are you beginning to see my argument??

Dont really want to say just incase i get someting else and look like a dick lol Have a few in mind but i have a main contender and am 99% getting one. It will definetly be something which isnt a common choice for most people and seen as i do hardly any miles i dont need to worry about running costs, etc.
Looking to buy at the end of summer and then knowing me will be spending a few months wages modifying it before getting it out on the road :)
R5 gt turbo? :p

I wouldnt mind one of them one day but the new car is going to cost around £14k. Need something that i can be happy with for 10 years and concentrate on other things rather than always having cars on my mind and looking to change a few times a year.
so i take it your getting a honda then? you'd get a type s gt tdi (blue) with low milage for that, quite a nice car in will last you years, or get a low millage ep3, there built to last and prices are reasonably on a good 2nd hand one also:thumb:
The garage is looking amazing Lee! Awesome job so far. I wouldn't know where to start - well, except for smashing the old stuff out! lol

lee, go to a builders merchants & see just how cheap you can get some plastic 'aco' style drainage, it comes in 3m lengths & has an integral grid on the top, which would be dead easy to cover in plywood instead..... you'll trip over the groove so many times & wish you never did it..

what we usually do is saw cut it wider for a start, then rattle some out with a kango then use the saw to cut it further in. you end up with a stepped edge, whic helps support the repair section afterwards.

Im not in any rush for it to dry, im sure in a few days it will be dry enough to put things on.
I always like working in a clean space but i think im going to go over the top with this and make it too tidy to work in :wtf:
Dont rush it too much, pulling the moisture out too fast will just make it crack??
Having a really clean workshop makes everything so much easier and more enjoyable! It also helps stopping dirt from getting places you dont want!!
Keep up with the good work, will be well worth it at the end!:thumb:

Have you not thought about using latex to smooth the floor? Would be easier than having to chip everything away, you would also know that the floor will be level and your tiles wont be bumpy.
With regards to the tiles, id fit them the same as carpet tiles. Mark the middle of the room, so you end up with a '+' in the middle, and put the first tile but against 2 lines. Then go up and across from that tile and work from there. Im sure you can find a guide on the net that shows you how to do it!
Im a floor fitter by trade btw! (trainee)

i doubt the latex floor leveller would be stong enough, its only a thin layer and once youve dropped tools on it and dragged the jack around it would possibly crack and chip off. even under the protective floor tiles.
But its looking spot on L33LEG, i cant wait to get into my new house so i can flatten the small garage and build a proper one! i might do a little thread on the garage lol

31-03-11, 07:32 PM
Lee thats looking bang on mate, only one thing i might change, i would add more of a lip coming out from your work surface, then if you even wish to add a vice, or use solo clamps you have a over hang to use to clap down onto.
And as for doing building work for a living, i think its like anything really, you do it for living means you don't want to do it on a weekend/week night etc, i hate having to any carpentry outside work! lol

You can put more than a skim down!! just float it, would b easier for a novice (no offence lee!!) to put down! Aslong as its left to go off properly it will be fine!
you could rent a floor grinder/polisher...

Ah bugger! wish you had said about putting the chipboard down, i don't want to pee you off at all mate, but i personally would have sealed them on the back (underside) with a lightly wartered down mix of PVA glue, this would obviously act as a damp/or water barrier even more then the wbp resistance thats in green compound chip board (normally used in bathrooms etc..)
BUT its done now, and looks smart with them tiles onto.

im not jelous at all !!
  WANT!!! lol
i think scott is thinking more along the lines of condensation that can creep up throught the floor. the concrete gets hot and cold throughout the day and night and causes it to get surface damp. so it can get slightly damp

These cars are very quick, it's standard apart from the exhaust but pulls like fcuk. I would say that a standard xe nova wouldnt keep up, but let's not get into that argument lol
Coming back from Plymouth cruise one of the guys in our convoy had a little "blast" against a standard XE Nova (just exhaust and mani on it) in his CRX (as mentioned previously), and they were pretty much on par with each other, if given enough space I reckon the CRX would have pulled away from it, but that's purely down to having more power, higher rev range etc.

Like i have said plenty of times mate, i spend my money very wisely and the majority of the time i make money when selling a car or at least break even. The money that i have spent over the past month or so on the two new cars were actually from the money i have been saving for the past year to buy me a more expensive car, this way i am still saving (i will just sell whatever cars i buy for more than i paid) and enjoy it at the same time. However i am very tempted to keep this car for a while because for me it's such a perfect daily car.
I also am very lucky still living with my parents so dont have to pay bills lol not so good in the longterm but at least im enjoying life at the moment and have it cushy as hell here and even have the house to myself for half of the year, makes sense to stay really. One day soon though i will have to get a proper job and start my life properly
Thanks by the way :thumb:

I know it doesnt match the front perfectly but anything other than standard rears look a bit crap tbh. Feel free to do a photoshop to change my mind though. IF i did tint the clear lense would i be able to get the tint off if i didnt like it?

Mini looks great. Glad to see you modified the lower grill/bumper to fit it properly. I see so many on the Mini forums where they just fit them hanging out.

I trimmed all the way around the grill on mine so I didn't have to touch the bumper. Alot of the Mini owners class a highly modified Mini as one covered in ****e stickers so doubt they would go cutting parts up lol! A set of face lift Xenon headlights and facelift rear lights will make a nice upgrade with the mods you are doing.
Do you know roughy how many miles you are getting from a tank in it.

The engines are surprisingly easy to work on. Serious jobs need the front of the car taking off but it uses a modular front end so it just unbolts with the radiator etc still attached exposing the front of the engine.
The exhaust should be fairly simple but you might need to ditch the spare wheel. If the exhaust is from a pre 2005 car it will be okay. late 2004 onwards cars used different hangers.
Springs bring them down a little but looking at your previous cars I think you will end up on coilovers soon lol

At least the BMW mini doesn't rust with a passion and in an original mini going to be dead in a carpark crash lol

I used to be a massive mini fan when i was a kid. When i was 16 looking to buy my first car i even went to buy a 2000 plate red cooper with silver roof and strips with the sportspack. My dad test drove it and said that there's no way im learning in one of them because of how old they felt lol
The old ones are very cool but over the past year or so iv realised that it was a good thing it moved onto a new one. Although i wouldnt mind a classic one with a vtec engine in for a laugh lol
Im loving working in the garage, apart from needing to paint the bottom of the walls with a more waterproof or better paint it's all good (i knew it was going to show anyway).
i learnt to spanner things when i was in my early teens cos my sister bought a 1973 850 mini... and it promptly fell apart..
old mini's are in no way safe in a crash, but in their day they were great fun to drive, but issigonis really got the rust traps right on this design...why do you see more moggie minors than minis??
as for the garage wall paint.. if damp is coming out, don't try to stop it, or the wall will fail.. decent masonry paints breathe.
