Dave is a really nice guy, very friendly and helpful, and he was very impressed to see a standard XE on TB's get a reading the good, he said normally they only see TB'd and T45 carb'd XE's getting 177bhp etc..
I'm well chuffed, need to do some more bits to it soon though, will upload some vids another time once there ready.

seems quite good how youve managed to enjoy using the car for a while before getting it mapped properly.. Didnt have to get it done in a costly hurry when engine was first fitted..?

Well i bought the TB kit of Dave marshal years ago, when it first put on it was done by mates in a barn, not set up to run too great at all, I'm not sure if Dave had a base map, or a pre programed map, or if he bought them 2nd hand, but they worked quite well after Dar set them all up a year or so ago, but a REAL set up is an amazing improvement i cant explain how much so.. :thumb:
Nah sod it Scott, you cant take it with you so enjoy having the cash in a fun driveable format instead of having it in a non-fun non-accessible place where you cant see it or do anything with it lol

Good result there Scott. Look forward to having a poke round this at Coomb on saturday!
good power if its a standard xe on bodies scott, although i'd be worried about reving it to nearly seven and a half
scott.parker
05-04-11, 09:33 PM
Limmit is set to 7500k BUT not to worry its got ARP rod bolts fitted, and as peak power is aroud 6500-7000k it will be fine as i change at redline on the dash that is about 6500 ish.
aw right, i did kinda think surely its got arp's if he's reving it that much or hes mental in dont give a feklol
scott you wanna go over the peak power, not change at it.
Think about it as a big hill, in order to maintain the highest average altitude you wanna start halfway up the hill climb to the top and then halfway back down, not start at the bottom and climb to the top.
Good results Scott! Sounds sweeeet!

Pff, you don't wanna hit the limiter either! lol
Pff, you don't wanna hit the limiter either! lol
puff.... why do you think its got a limiter?
Do you want a genuine answer to that? lol
scott.parker
06-04-11, 08:04 PM
lol i was meaning as its harder to hear the revs an gauge it when your excited, but was only joking, well the limitter was set before at 7750 but Dave lowered it to 7500 as theres no need to have it any higher etc,
Any way no pics, but ive justt fited some new center section exhaust rubber hangers as they melted on the rollers! lol
And while the back end was in the air i decided to lower my rear coilovers another 20mm, supprisingly they wernt stuck tight and it was easy..
Scott
Nice results Scott, what was it running when I drove it then? Just a standard map?
Do you want a genuine answer to that? lol
as scott said, you set the limiter at a safe limit...so it doesn't drop off too much & hopefully saves the engine...
scott.parker
06-04-11, 10:03 PM
Nice results Scott, what was it running when I drove it then? Just a standard map?
Yes mate, i belive a base map, its beautiful to drive now.
Dave is a legend - he doesnt mess about.
He has mapped three of mine now.
Nice results too - the power probably isnt that far off what it was tbh (13.4 iirc on the quarter?) but the benfits will probably be teh delivery and torque curve improvements!
Base maps are built to be safe - now its efficient!
;)
as scott said, you set the limiter at a safe limit...so it doesn't drop off too much & hopefully saves the engine...
I'd disagree tbh, I wouldn't lower the rev limit on an engine unless it was actually likely to rip the crank out the block, at least then if you overrev it a tad it keeps going rather than splatting you on the windscreen.
Risk to an engine is when the block can't deal with the stresses of the weight spinning on the crank.
don't they teach about adding reliability on your course??
don't they teach about adding reliability on your course??
Yep, it's in the lecture with Geoff's sidenote on how to get an engine to rev to 24k without exploding.:)
Hope everything goes well at Combe for you Scott!
Bit annoyed i cant be there :(

07-04-11, 09:43 PM
Cheers dude, yeah would of been nice to catch up. only thung left is to mount my extinguisher pull cord, not sure how or where to put it, cable is quite short!
scott.parker
08-04-11, 08:22 PM
So all things i wanted done are done, extinguisher plumbed in, pull cable/leaver mounted, spanner checked, all set!
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/8724/photo0442.jpg
Mounted the bottle to the cage with some stainless pipe clips.
Will need to buy a new straight pipe joiner, as Ive had to use a right angle elbow in a place i didn't want to, but had to as the pipe from the bottle wont come out..
Both nozzles mounted to the strut brace.
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9747/photo0439g.jpg
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/470/photo0440fm.jpg

So thought about it and made this tonight..

He seamed to enjoy him self almost as much as i did.
Ive got a video from our laps on the session (cheers Mike for sorting the cam..)

Took it to shakey today for a thrash, was a good day but no new times as there was a very strong head wind that was dropping everyones times by around 6 tenths of a sec from there normal times etc, so i only got 14.0 s at 99mph quite annoying, but least on a good day i know it will be more consistent at 13.5 s and maybe quicker etc..
PS: there was a red mk2 sr/sri with black Astra mk2 gte wheels there, had png stickers, don't know them/or car?

14-05-11, 02:06 PM
Not really an update, but as i was at the local tip/waste plant earlier i thought i would enquirer about using the weigh bridge, so turned out i know one of the lads working there so they said yeah any time, so popped over to my mums and then back there to get it weighed.
So.....
880 Kg with driver and just over hath tank (15ltrs?) of fuel etc
Then without me it was 800 Kg and same in tank etc.
So not bad really, they said if i want i can pop back once Ive lightened it more..
Just remembered this site... (http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp)
And look what came out.
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 185
Weight without Driver (KG) : 800
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 234.96
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.18
0 - 100 (Secs) : 12.966
0 - 100 (Secs) : 7.77
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.60
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 102.44
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 13.40
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 104.34
That is dam dam close! though i have had a 13.5 @ 105 mph..

pmsl err thats quite light for me, as im sure im around 13.5 but 80kg is more like 12.5?
Awesome! Its great when you can get the real weight and work out your actual BHP/tonne. I've found that LetsTorqueBHP calculator looks quite accurate in the past too.
Half a tank will be more than 15L surely?
At about a kg per litre weight too.
Similar weight to mine.
scott.parker
14-05-11, 02:28 PM
Well there was say 5ltrs maybe in it, but i put about 12ltrs in it so its all guess work mate.
Iain, I'm happy with that as its so close to my actual PB 1/4 that it must be close IMO.
Scott
Iain, I'm happy with that as its so close to my actual PB 1/4 that it must be close IMO.
Scott
Terminal speeds are way out though, 102 is pretty low for an XE, and it's estimating that you'll do 3mph more on a 1/4 mile than you will with an unlimited runway?! lol Otherwise not bad, only thing is the main factor that effects it is drag coefficient which is a bit unreasonable to ask online for a calculator! quarter mile times should be close though :)
Makes me feel better about the weight of mine...

And one year on, and it went in for MOT this morning, and...........
Passed, no issues what so ever, i did change the revers bulb and check all lights/tyres pressures first though.
So job or no job, Ive got my PV ticket/stand pass, bring it on, ill even do some 1/4 runs again just for the shizz of it.
Scott
Reverse light isn't needed for MOT, mine hasn't worked since Simps touched it lol
scott.parker
02-06-11, 04:21 PM
I know i thought that, BUT was it worth risking, i didnt know if the ruels had changed?
Won't change as MOT is designed to be carried out by one person, can't put a car in reverse and check the light lol But fair enough, worth changing a bulb if you thought it might fail on it.
My point was a positive one in that it would have passed anyway :d
scott.parker
02-06-11, 04:35 PM
Umm i can place it in revers on the ignition switch to check it, so i guess they could too...
But yeah i know, no matter its passed eh! lol

First the spark cover was well manky and needed some attention..

25-06-11, 11:26 PM
Well took the car to the garage today to see if i could sort a few things, the other day one of the wheels was locking up on the back, and i don't leave it with the hand break one while parked, so my guess was shoes sticking some how, or bearings on the way out..
So got both sets of bearings replaced, and cleaned the shoes up for me.

http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/8859/photo0651q.jpg
Sorted that issue out, and feels smoother to drive, but the noise is still there that must be something at the front end, maybe another bearing?

MASSIVE thanks to Neil this weekend, i popped over to his place and we did some surgery on it, so now it's got some 2nd hand CV's on it, so i now know part of my noise was them being fooked with way to much play in them, and the other thing was my BIG block conversion shaft that had play in, you'll see why from the pic's!
So next to do is replace the other two CV's on other side to get rid of any unwanted play thats in them, but hope that shaft is ok??
Will wait and see..
So off and out it popped..
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/4993/photo0703w.jpg
So this is what 185bhp-153lbft and a quaife diff/paddle clutch and burn outs on the strip do to your shaft's!

Normal side by side with duffed one..
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/1149/photo0705o.jpg
So if my car/set up can do this, i would hate to see the cheep bodge version's some do, and what can happen to them, as IMO i was very lucky not to snap it..
And now i have a short shaft fitted from the infamous Izachunt Drag nova's 2.0 8V turbo set up.

First real test drive show'd no iffy noise, and no loud clang/bang from the slack in shaft/CV's etc..
Feels sweet to drive again, and my confidence in the car is back.
So more to do still, roll on track time once new CV's are on.
Scott
What top bolt are you using on your hub/strut mount?
Fook, wouldn't expect a XE to do that to a shaft. Especially seeing as people use them with 300+ lb/ft of torque
peester
17-07-11, 05:28 PM
that issachunt powertrain in that red corsa b still?
scott.parker
17-07-11, 11:06 PM
Iain, there leada coilovers with there own camber bolt setup on,
Ad, yes mate you wouldnt think it but i must be driving hard enough.. lol
Dave, yes the corsa still has the 2.0 8vt in, is being built upto nice track spec.

Interesting pic of those shaft splines, nicely spotted though who knows how long they would have gone before snapping.
What shafts were they out of interest?
scott.parker
19-07-11, 12:23 AM
lol well the play (EG loud bang) was there on my old nova, so I'm guessing it's just got worse as this one got more abuse, and then CV's started giving up, as there all same stuff from my old one from 2004? And they were part of a cossvuax conversion kit i bought way back on old silky.. There meant to be Rally X big end conversion shafts, eg same as M-tech i guess..

R888s? Nice :) What colour are the MOs going?

scott.parker
19-07-11, 10:55 PM
Iain, 888's yep's part worn, so even better! lol no messing to get them scrubbed in etc.
MO's should be going something appropriate me thinks! lol
Mike, humm, can but try mate, that just to blast though, PCing is £50?
Scott
Sweet where'd you get those? All the ones on eBay went for too much for my liking
Yeah just blasting mate, who I use charge £17 a wheel. Only need 3 more doing like.
scott.parker
19-07-11, 11:14 PM
If you do want them doing, ill ask, though it SHOT not sand, but he tested an alloy to see, and it bounced off better then steel wheels, less pitted, was quite a surprise to both of us.
Iain, these are ebay's mate.
Fact is track tyres are silly money new, your looking 75 a tyre for them Federals (would try them if i didn't have these) 115 for Kumho's and 110 for 888's new.
If you could please Scott, shot dont bother me, there being painted anyway.
scott.parker
19-07-11, 11:20 PM
OK mate, I'll see what i can do, if i can sort something, i want 2x lengths of 25mmx25mm/30mm CF angle remember! lol

How do Scott? My bro and his girl came back from billing telling me about this bright orangey colour nova there that was the same colour as a C20let Corsa i had, turns out it was this :d
They very impressed they were! :thumb::thumb::thumb:
scott.parker
21-07-11, 06:16 AM
lol Thats quite funny mate, glad some one likes it, some seem to think it's too track modified, as in the looks, but i don't see the point in going half way etc.
So here's the center caps from the MO's.
Bumpers are in vag Delphine grey, caps are BMW graphite, close enough as it is last min thing etc.

Put road tyres onto these? Or track tyres?
If i put road tyres on these they will be my show wheels for all round etc, and that would make the Cesaro's track wheels etc..
Scott
Those as everyday and Cesaros as track wheels sounds good. You'll be getting tyres swapped over more regularly for track so makes sense the Cesaros pick up more wear and tear?

But Ive got my tyres and mo's sorted, then putting them on i have made a school boy error and some how killed one of the threads on the drivers side hub! not quite figured how ill get round it yet..
Angry is understated, this is why you dot rush things...
Possible to helicoil a hub? If not just whip it off and fit a new bearing and inner race I guess? And move to studs and nuts if you haven't already :)

01-09-11, 06:33 PM
Well Ive sorted the hub/bolt issue, Ive managed to give it a bit of a shoulder and eased it into the hub gently, i think only that one bolt will work in there now though..
So got it all back on the ground, took it out for a spin, gave it some only to find that the loud bang is back on the near side CV/drive shaft, so I'm guessing either i didn't pack enough grease into the boot etc, or the inner CV is now about to give up like the last one, so 2nd hand CV are not a good idea...
Pissed off is not the correct thing to describe my annoyance!
Cant afford to sort it for Trax, no time to do it either..
Think I'm selling or braking it, as Ive not used it enough in the last 3 years, it just a burden and money pit i cant afford to do any more, on the plus side the freshly blasted/powder coated MO's look ace! lol

I'll think it over this weekend what I'm going to do with the car, as it's tax runs out the end of September too, and I'm not re-taxing it this year unless I'm using it.
But I'm might sit down and work out what it's worth in bit's and what i want for it as a hole car inc all parts/spares/wheels etc etc...

CV isn't that much (£40 or so usually?) and an evening will see it sorted surely? I can probably get a CV cheap through work actually, can always run it up to you tomorrow evening (although it will be late, viewing a car after work) if it gets you to trax.

So let me get this straight, you put it on Ebay the guy clicked Buy it now. Paid deposit via Paypal and turned up, paid up, and fecked off?
Now that's something you don't hear about very often!
scott.parker
29-01-12, 12:54 PM
lol to put it that way yep!
Trust me Ive had my fair share of serious messes with this car, so i was shocked at how simple it was too!
I was worried that he would turn up with a Cheque etc, but nope all nice real hard cash, he clicked the BIN button, paid a deposit (thats cleared in my bank) and then drove down, we chatted for about hr and took the car for small stint round the block, loaded it up, sing log book cash fully counted, off he goes!

Well loves the way she looks, so he's not changing that yet, said he'll just get it out on track and check it out, see if he wants to upgrade front brakes, or disk the rear beam etc and thats all i know, think he just wanted something to buy and use, best way really saves spending all the cash and time i did! lol
I like the fact the van says "Top prices paid for MOT failures" lol
scott.parker
29-01-12, 01:15 PM

Andy, no he's not yet on here, though i said to join, he's on MIG as he use to have a corsa XE.
Yep it's off to Scotland it's gone.
And i think thats why he shot down no questions asked, as i was up front honest and had it priced just right IMO, no over pricing of it to get it knocked down to a sale price, just simple up front no fecking about like me! lol
Yes i did laugh at that too, it's a top price for a none MOT failure!

This is now on Gumtree but seems to of had its throttle bodies removed
scott.parker
18-10-13, 08:21 AM
Yes mate, the lad who originally bught it removed the tbs etc and the gearbox that had the diff and paddle clutch replacing it with standard inlet/management and i believe a standard f16 box.
He also removed the sprint carbon fiberglass buckets and replaced with cheap imola steal frames, and removed the leada coilovers, replaced with i believe koni shocks.
So basically bought it, took all the good expensive parts off it, then sold it on at not a lot less then he bought it for, thus making proffit, but now the present owner was trying to sell if for about £400 less then it sold for by saying the plates worth a grand, but its only worth £3/400 max, and with all the good stuff gone imo the cars only worth £2000/2500 max now, as theres about £2500 worth of parts missing.
But on the upside, i sold it for what i wanted, and i know that no one would pay that now.
Edit : just seen the advert, thats a more realistic price. Was a grand more last time I saw it for sale.
