all these rwd nova's...rwd corsa ftw!lol
novas looking well though matey:thumb:
My advice would would be not to use the Cossy back end, its a very poor design and unless you fit a adjustable beam which is £1000 its not going to handle very well.
Look at Nissan 200sx S14 independant setups, far better, and use a Skyline GTS rear diff when you go down the turbo route.

does anyone think im mad if i say ive been thinking off breaking this  or do i finish it and use it?
Not in the slightest.
The issue with ALL cars like this is the overall package and I don't mind saying IMO that most of these projects even when finished are bot actually finished as too many things are left out or corners cut.
Ricks possibly had the the best overall package, short of a gearbox that can maybe take that sort of power it would of had (but then a F13 would of handled the power he would of used for just reversing it out of his garage for pictures) lol
If you are willing to own a car that needs possibly another 20k+ in it to even be slightly reliable then stick with it, otherwise buy something that does do it more reliably in the first place ie : not a fwd nova
It will be great fun for the few hours its stays together but as your already working out is that actually worth it for the amount of money (and time) you will have to spend to get it atleast together and mapped ?
discoinferno
04-01-10, 07:05 PM
ditto what jonlem said above, but breaking them is the only real way to get any decent return as they are always worth more in bits than as a car typical example g8wcc (gareth my good friend) broke his nova in total for about 8-9k trying selling a complete nova for 9k.......... it wont happen
best of luck and do what ever you want its your car
Count Vaux Alot
04-01-10, 07:16 PM
Agree with both JB and Disco here
why break it when so far mate?
chrisnovaturbo
04-01-10, 07:43 PM
just have to see what happens.
He is MILES of having the car actually done so backing out now would be a very wise move rather than spank another 5k on it that you wont see back.
I'm all for seeing these projects done but I am also very realistic when it comes to doing one properly.... thus why 3 1/2 years later I'm still building my Escort which atleast will be useable and sell for a fortune whole let alone in spares when I decide I've had enough or fancy a change.
chrisnovaturbo
04-01-10, 07:53 PM
its not spending money on it and losing it that im botherd about its im looking into putting the money from the car into my business. but then i could use the car for advertisement.
having been in a similar position to yourself Chris, I must admit if I were to do it again, it'd be phase 2 only.

having been in a similar position to yourself Chris, I must admit if I were to do it again, it'd be phase 2 only.
That with a stripped interior, pukka brakes etc IS a great package.
Everyone wants 500 or more hp when the truth is that getting a car to work reliably with 400 would appear to be a task let alone another 100 or so more !
There are too many downsides to building cars like this which essentially is even what put me off going any further with mine back in the day, are you actually ever going to be happy with it ? I knew I wouldn't so got rid ! Best move ever really although as stock xe nova track cars go it was damn cheap and proven to be quite fast for what it was !
krobinson
04-01-10, 10:09 PM
I must admit, I wouldnt want anymore power from my car, it's a dream to drive, silly fast when it needs to be, but calm and easy driven when I want it to also.
Some things to think about Chris.

Looks like it should be sound when its all sorted and back together!
You want stiffer springs on the rear btw, than on the front, to keep the weight down on the front end and to stop it "squatting"
wow.. 500lb springs, Yellow nova I had was running on 350lb springs and was a right bitch on the road, VERY skittish..

Chris, are their any proven gains from using the EDS manifold? Its uber expensive, but I had thought about sourcing one, but didnt know if the gain was worth the ££.
i think it works realy well. it just flows better. its ment to have gains of 60bhp with other mods? will have to see whats its like when i get my car mapped.

mine is fine, i put new plugs in when i got it and they all looked like they were burning the fuel the same in a 4 chambers. will see what the mapper says when i get it there.
TBH I don't understand why people just don't use a simple tapered plenum like the Swedish one or enlarged YB one from a small turbo esc cos, probably a lot cheaper really as well.

here is a pic of the head that was on the car. there was no way it was leaning out lol and all chamber look like they were getting the same amount off fuel. so im keeping the EDS inlet as it works realy well and flows realy well.
