yeh, just plain bog standard white, nothing fancy.

So when I get some armco scrapes and tyre wall dents in it, i can just get my hammerite and brush out and off I go again!

Good plan lol

Whats the future for CBM?

Paul
19-01-11, 05:03 PM
CBM is sold.

19-01-11, 05:31 PM
Shame to see it go mate, it's the only nova Ive known you to have, it started as an SR? cant member what color, then went xe then color blue and then let added, then to it's liquid yellow hi spec let etc iirc.

BUT the new one should be much more abusable for track days, less worrying about it etc.

The rear stays are just placed in, not welded yet, hence them not being straight.

Big thanks to Scott & Shane for their help tonight,

Iain
20-01-11, 09:16 AM
Looks a nice cage Paul, are you triangulating the front like you were thinking of a while back?

Also what is a 'rear stay', the bit between the B pillars and rear legs?

Paul
20-01-11, 12:08 PM
Lion, yeh it goes through to the front, and yeh thats what HH calls them bars.

MK999
21-01-11, 01:52 AM
Cage looks awesome :) Much more fitting than the bolt in you had before. Those seats look comfier than my Imola's too, very nice :d

Threaded inserts into CDS tube on the seat mounts?

And yeah Simps, read the thread ffs lol

Edd
21-01-11, 02:13 AM
Nice work

What's up with the grafiti on the quarter panel ? lol

Connor
21-01-11, 02:36 AM
Cage looks very impressive.
Keep up the good work Paul :)

Paul
22-01-11, 12:49 AM
Didnt really do too well with pics tonight, was time consuming work mounting seats & harnesses.

But seats are now ready to be bolted in, as are the harnesses. The repairs on the rear quarters are half way done. So with a bit of luck the inside may be painted in the next fortnight or so, and the outside primed.

Im going to strip a nova in the morning for a screen, matrix, heater blower etc.

Til' next time...

AlexW
22-01-11, 12:51 AM
Progress is good, Are you not planning to run a internal shifter?

Paul
22-01-11, 12:51 AM
Copied & pasted;

Im down the garage now, so more progress pics later.

I took a trip over to Raldes earlier bought 2 6 point harnesses, all fixings, new suede steering wheel and a new OMP boss. Got harnesses in and fixing plates welded in, the rest of the seat rails welded in and my mate glen (saab mk2) is currently doing the arch repairs needed. Coming together now

Paul
22-01-11, 12:52 AM
Progress is good, Are you not planning to run a internal shifter?

Not on this one, no real advantage IMO

Paul
22-01-11, 12:54 AM
MK- nah captive nuts welded onto the tubes.

Edd- when you have friends and me with a combined mental age of 7 thats what happens lol

Rich
22-01-11, 01:20 AM
So theres a dick drawn there somwhere then? lol

Cage looks wicked, how come you were selling the wilwoods? how did you rate them? 280mm? I cant find 5 stud setups listed online?

Paul
22-01-11, 01:32 AM
No need for wilwoods on this, im goinf for cheap & cheerful tbh

They were superb tbf stopped the nova from 150ish twice a lap at snett for 10 mins repeatedly with no brake fade.

Benn
22-01-11, 10:38 AM
Cage looks good as does the welding.

Did you look in to them tbs i linked you too?

Mike
22-01-11, 11:11 AM

22-01-11, 01:35 PM
Good stuff Paul.

as mike said :thumb:

scott.parker
22-01-11, 02:21 PM
Did you have an internal cav shifter on CBM?

I reckon there quite a bit better then the standard ones imo.

Scott

Benn
22-01-11, 02:49 PM
scott, surly if its still on the nova linkage the it would feel mostly the same no?

scott.parker
22-01-11, 02:57 PM
Has a more direct feel as you don't have the extra joints in it, that the standard one dose from where its under the car.

PLUS leaves it clear for the exhaust to be made nice and straight is a big bonus i think.

Scott

Benn
22-01-11, 03:00 PM
ah didnt think it any less joints in it. Know its good for clearanace.

Paul
22-01-11, 07:00 PM
Im still thinking about it, but atm standard it is.

I went up to martins (bmw156) today to get a few bits, cheers mate.

Got a screen, matrix, tank straps, few odd ball bolts, handbrake assembly, mirrors etc.

Still need a gte fr bumper & grill.

Count Vaux Alot

Cracking build so far mate.
Loving that cage

Adam
23-01-11, 12:20 PM
Nice work Paul.

Internal shifter is one of the most pointless things ive done on mine lol lol
If you RJ the actual linkage, it feels 100% better than standard, even with the nova shifter.

Paul
23-01-11, 08:38 PM
Been up tonight, drilled the holes for the front triangulation, cut the plates out to beef up the shell where it goes through so its water tight etc.

Didnt get any pics, not much to see to be fair!

Then me & maris had a slight incident involving the bus pink paint whilst painting his rocker cover/cambelt cover.

Ill give you a clue, he went home in just his pants and one pink leg, his clothes are on the floor mopping up the rest of the paint.

Iain
23-01-11, 08:39 PM
You stripped him naked and painted him pink?

scott.parker
23-01-11, 08:43 PM
No they ran out of lube!

Paul
23-01-11, 08:45 PM
Thats the one. We forgot the paint gun, so tried with a parafin gun. Failed, then found the top half of a spray gun with no pot. There were a few screw etc missing out of it, so a few bits of tape/bodgery later he tried to hold the spray gun top into the parafin pot, needless to say the whole pot went over him, and the garage floor. He the brushed it off of the floor onto the covers as not to waste it. 5mins later he rubbed it all off with thinners lol

Nick J
23-01-11, 08:56 PM
Nice work so far Paul, cage looks awesome too! :)

Nick.

Paul
23-01-11, 08:58 PM
Nick, have you ever sprayed hammerite before?

matthew172
23-01-11, 09:12 PM
that cage looks awesome, good work. id like one of them in mine one day

Count Vaux Alot
23-01-11, 10:54 PM
Nick, have you ever sprayed hammerite before?

I have all the gold bits on my brown saloon rocker cover, belt cover etc were sprayed hammerite - if you look at the biggest tin in the shop it gives you instructions on the thinners to paint ratio you need to use. It comes out well

Paul
23-01-11, 11:05 PM
Must you use gammerite thinners?

MattBrown
23-01-11, 11:13 PM
Looks good paul.

Thought you bought GayW06's shell to do this too?

The insides look white?

Or have I missed something?

pikey1986
23-01-11, 11:18 PM
he had it blasted

Count Vaux Alot
24-01-11, 09:11 AM
Must you use gammerite thinners?

No :)

Paul
24-01-11, 09:29 AM
How about hammerite thinners? I dont think gammerite thinners even exist?

Pistol Pete
24-01-11, 09:31 AM
Hammerite thinners does exist. I thinned the blue down when i painted my bay.

lol @ gammertie...typo!

Paul
24-01-11, 10:54 PM

Paul
24-01-11, 11:02 PM
I would like to run a dash bar across, but also want to keep the dash, it wont fit behind the dash, is too high above the dash and just not feasible beneath the dash, so think im sh!t out of luck there :(

Paul
24-01-11, 11:02 PM
No probs kev give me a call closer to the time.

Paul

MK999
24-01-11, 11:05 PM
Will the dash bar not fit sat right up against the bulkhead welded to the front triangulation bits? As this is where an spi loom runs and they're not exactly small.

pie
25-01-11, 12:19 AM
looking good buddy :)

AlexW
25-01-11, 12:59 AM

So been down the breakers this morning, got a new pair of lower arms, another heater matrix and some saab reds for the XE...

MattBrown
25-01-11, 07:01 PM

Iain
25-01-11, 10:03 PM
Don't hang about do you Paul! Took me weeks to triangulate the front lol

Dash bar hmm, could drill off the inner skin to gain more room but you're losing the box section so seems a bit silly.

Looks spot on Paul. I hope you decide to attend billing as I'll get the chance to have a wander round it as Im sure you'll have it complete before then.

On another note I think Ive missed whether your going mk1 or mk2 ? I ask as I always really liked how my old white one looked on a colour scheme basis on a mk2. If you havent finalised what your doing yet maybe its something you could think about? I know your primarily function over form but its an idea all the same. :)
