Lmfao, well said mate, im guessing you appreciate proper sound equipment :d

I like proper sound on a budget, so mine goes from PC, through gemini mixer that acts as a sound card (well 2) into a cambridge A5 and then 2 TDL studio 10 floorstanders bi-wired. Total cost, £130 :d

Yamaha APX-5-12A 12 String acoustic

I'm sure it'll all come back to me tho.

Keif what guitar is it? With it having 12 string is it a Spanish acoustic?

Edited my post above. It's an eBay "bargain" He wanted £280 for it.....I didn't pay that, lol.

Yamaha APX-5-12A Acoustic, not nylon strung so not a Spanish guitar.

All i have to adjust is the Truss Rod, which being a 12 String is at it's tightest, and the action height which i'm not happy doing my self. Hmm, I wonder how much that'll cost then.

MK999
04-09-12, 07:32 PM
Action height looks like a grab the files job on that? I'd leave it lol

Give me something with pickups and some allen keys and I'll be far happier :p

04-09-12, 07:37 PM
Just the one for me, unless you wanna count the bass I made at A level but it's not hugely playable lol

Just getting back into it really as the Squier Strat with some questionable fret 'filing' (looks a bit like Merris did it) really put me off playing for a long time.

Got an Ibanez SAS36FM earlier this year.

MMMMM carbon doors! How are you going to fit them to the car, do they have hinges on them? are you putting normal handles on the outside? Whats the inside like? I want to see more!

bazzap8389

2 schools of thought....

1. 10.9 might be stronger than 8.8 but are more brittle... so as opposed to bending in an bump, they could shear...
2. pattern parts can sometimes be of iffy quality, and its been known for bolts to say 10.9 but not actually be anywhere near that strength

I would have thought its the bottom arm thats more likely to bend on a big impact rather than the ball joint bolts giving way, unless its had the strengthening plates welded in I guess.

Chimp, didn't know Gaz did mount mounts. Are they direct fit?

Yes Benn, they are. After all the horror stories I'd read, and hassle Iain had trying to fit some "other" eccentric mounts, I bit the bullet and bought the Gaz ones. I have some TAS mounts but I'll keep them for one of the other projects and fit them to the Spax RSX coilovers.

chimp007_uk
13-09-12, 06:47 PM
You'll have to call them, my mate sorted me out on the price of coilovers and mounts. I don't think I got them much cheaper than standard, as I have a feeling they're only buying and machining someone elses mounts, so not a massive margin.

I believe they're circa £100

Benn;
I've taken some pics of the mounts assembled, and the parts in order of assembley.

Racking is £52 each section. I shopped around and it is the cheapest I could find. It is reall good quality. They do a much bigger heavier duty rack and that is about £130

whats the silver things on the triggers?

There trigger stops mate, so they don't go all the way in also if you look just next to the triggers there is little grub screws, to adjust the triggers in to find "the sweet spot"

Seeing as the wife's BMW has the driving on snow ability similar to that of Bambi on ice I decided to go un the hunt for some winter wheels and tyres.
BMW wanted £450 for a set of steels with non runflat winters at trade price so thought I would try an alternative.
After a stroke of luck I managed to get four brand new winter Pirelli run flats for £235 a set, that for a tyre that usually costs a minimum of £110 each! Just needed to find some wheels.
After doing a 200 mile round trip to pick up some supposedly excellent used rims I had bought for £235 on Ebay they turned out to be virtually scrap!!! After telling the bloke where he could stick his wheels and politely advising him he had just wasted half my day & £30 of fuel I was back on the hunt. Got home, 2 mins on Ebay and found a delivery mileage set of rims, and the best bit, they were listed by one of our suppliers for £200 start price. Rang em Monday and got them for £160 cash(Not sure how that worked but I am not one to moan) and delivered by parts van...

Not quite as pretty as the M Sport rims she has fitted but nicer than a set of steels for winter :)
Got the tyres fitted today so all set for winter for less than £400 :)

Heavy but still lighter than most "normal" jacks. Easy to pick up still, better wheels too, rolls much better. Lifts faster too. Well worth the £130.

Why? They seem kinda pointless

To protect them whilst in storage as they will be in the garage so they will get covered in dust and get knocked about. Rubber naturally deteriorates with age and they can start to crack(I have 10 year old Michelin Pilot Sports on my 888 and they are now cracking quite badly) so due to the wife doing low mileage and a set of runflat tyres costing near £800 a set, if a set of covers extends their life then I will be happy. Plus they make them easier to move when I take them back to work when they are fitted.

Utter crap, Winter tyres are well worth it. Why would most European countries use them and in some countries the use be compulsary with fines for not fitting them!
See here... http://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/winter-tyres/laws-and-legislation
If you have ever driven a BMW or other rear wheel drive in the snow on summer tyres you would know. That is the problem with this country, we never prepare for bad weather and then we moan when it snows and blame everyone else instead of ourselvs when the country grinds to a halt. Other countries manage that experience worse weather than us because they are prepared.
I have paid £400 for a set of new Pirelli winter runflats and delivery mileage genuine BMW alloys. The ame set from BMW would be over £1000! I could use these for 2-3 winter and still sell them for a profit. Part worn sets are fetching over £500 on Ebay!
Winter tyre are made of a different compound which stays soft below 7 Degrees Celcius where summer tyre rubber starts to go hard. They also have a different tread pattern with Sipes to help grip in the snow better and are better at dispersing water.
I would rather pay out £400 and know my missus stands a better chance of controlling her car in the bad weather.

You really don't know nothing about tires do you.
I live in central Europe and here winter tires make one hell of a difference come the snow and ice a massive improvement on summer tires in all ways.
Please educate your self before making such a statement again.
And YES THE RUBBER DOES STICK TO THE ICE a lot better than summer tires

Edd
13-11-12, 07:07 PM
Fair enough

I could never justify it, it's very rarely icey down here, if it is, it's so bad no one should be on the road IMO

Just seems alot of cost to me for hardly any gain as rubber is never going to stick to ice, and if it's that icey it's too dangerous to drive anyway
But few years back I never ever heard about winter tyres lol

But no I never drove a rear wheel drive car in bad conditions, so I can't really judge there, so spending money to keep your lady safe is what anyone would do :)

We have 3 Astons at work and they all get put on winters this time of year..... The sheer fact you can accelerate at near dry grip speeds on ice and then brake to a short stop proves their use/worth/not con. Summer tyres are just plain dangerous (your fave word) at sub 3 degrees.

Stuart
13-11-12, 07:17 PM
Also fwiw winter tyres don't die when used in the summer, just you have a shade less grip which is comedy. So you can haul more than a few days from a set :p

phunkynova

Edd trust me they really do make a big difference as the summer rubber goes hard in the cold and is no long supple and mailable giving a feeling like diving with Iron wheels were as the winter rubber has a different compound and chemicals in them which keep the rubber soft, supple and mailable. We dive on snow and ice all the time here in winter no problem, sounds crazy and mad but we are all doing 60 mph plus on the motorways which are snow covered with pileups dew to winter tiers.
PS I was only talk about tiers before some wish guy jumps in :d

phunkynova
13-11-12, 07:28 PM
It has nothing to do with snow and ice it's all about temperature and the tier rubber going rock hard, dry or wet

I see it like this, if you have one accident due to the snow then it is either going to cost £250 excess plus increase in premiums in the following years or a big bill at the dealer having a new leg, wheel, bearing etc fitted and a wheel aligment. I would rather spend the money on something I can keep, an investment than paying out for repairs.

They will be used for about 4-5 months, they are not just for snow, they are good in wet weather to help avoid aquaplaning. This means 4-5 months less wear on her summer tyres each year and helps keep her M-Sport rims tidy aswell.

Ive got a big huge ten tonne diesel engine up front. More then enough weight to keep things skipping off the road.

Only reason I ever crashed in the snow was because I was driving like a boss. Didnt release there was kerb stone hiding under a pile of snow & subseqently snapped a shock absorber in half on the old 12 volt. That was in Stoke aswell actually lol lol
