scott.parker
18-01-14, 01:35 PM
Dude if you do this in Rio Verde green with gold bbs style wheels it will be awesome!

And even better if it's mk1!

Alex J
18-01-14, 02:37 PM
its not going mk1, its going as it is with the yellow wheels, staying mk2 just minus the rust and no flip paint, its started creeping up the wings and doors alot, noticed it on the m.o.t and that was its lot!

what is the colour of that courtney nova?? also its going green because the door shuts, engine bay etc already is green!

scott.parker
18-01-14, 09:13 PM
Im pretty sure its rio verde green mate.

Alex J
19-01-14, 10:13 AM
Im pretty sure its rio verde green mate.ill look it up, still after a drivers door lol, doubt im gunna find one lol

Alex J
19-01-14, 02:55 PM
so today begun the strip down, got a pal whos just opened his own paint shop, and has done me a deal i cannot say no to!!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/t1/1526630_678934438837131_1110663038_n.jpg

inner arches and back panel are in almost mint condition , no welding to do!!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/1601348_678934478837127_983967543_n.jpg

and this is what greets me under the paint were the dick head i paid last time painted it, he just skimmed filler straight over the rust, i never asked for a cheeap or hash job..

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t1/9842_678934612170447_800420091_n.jpg

and this is were its site atm, going to pick up four **** wheels to chuck on it, got to peel all the stickers of it and wrap stuff, and remove the passanger door, going to see teddy next week for a door, but still on the hunt for a drivers one!

SRimon
19-01-14, 05:33 PM
A16VTB isn't Rio Verde - I think it's Frontera Green - forest green or something

dgbnova#1
19-01-14, 05:34 PM
Prob going on the rusty Corsa rims I'd guess you don't mess about do you Alex and bloody painters are a pain in the ass

Alex J
19-01-14, 07:12 PM
Millworm, yes he will paint your boot, and yes painters are , well most of them are tossers that ive used, i need to find out that colour!

scott.parker
19-01-14, 09:02 PM
Theres one thing no body could say about you, your not lazy, you really get stuck in when you get an idea in mind..
Well as for the colour im out of ideas, as Simon thinks its not rio. And yes i too hate painter's, i wish i could do mine my self to my desired finish..

Benn
20-01-14, 01:23 PM
Thought the finish on yours was good Scott.

scott.parker
20-01-14, 01:56 PM
No Ben, its just ok, if i was to point out to you all the imperfections you would be shocked, i would love to get it re done, but funds.. Blah blah..

Benn
20-01-14, 02:31 PM
Oh, i've never looked hard at it, Shame really. It is very hard to get a perfect finish. That's why i do all the prep and finish. Then it's only laying the paint on that can be the prob.

Alex J
20-01-14, 04:02 PM
anything will be better than that **** job i had done last year, its truly shocking now ive taken it apart :-(

Lee H
20-01-14, 06:04 PM
This is why I will never have a car painted again. Far too much stress and hassle and usually a substandard job despite paying a ridiculous price.

scott.parker
21-01-14, 08:20 AM
Thing is, IF i could teach myself to paint, and had the access to somewhere with a good environment to spray, i would try to do it myself, and if it comes out bad i would just re do it, as it would only cost me for materials etc, i paid a good price to get my mk1 painted, the guy did a good job on replacing the rear arches, but cut corners in other areas, and now its starting to show..
I used him again on my track car, as i knew it would be cheap, (£400 for both sides , bonnet and boot!) and i didn't want a perfect finish etc.. And yeah you guessed it, he did a better job on it! Wtf lol

Benn
21-01-14, 11:12 AM
If your picky (like me and how you sound) i bet you wouldn't paint your car.

I wont paint mine, I'll do bumpers and bits but that's it. I'm way to critical of my own work. And i'd be even less happy with the finish than i get now...

I'm not as experienced as Nick J, but i still wouldn't if i was as good as him.

dgbnova#1
21-01-14, 11:27 AM
It's a pain I'm fussy to a degree but I'm not to into total show cars personally I like to drive them but I try to do as much prep as poss on any car I have then get it done/finished properly but it's all personal ideas I do plan to paint some jf not all of some of my stuff in the future though just to keep the costs down

Alex J
21-01-14, 07:14 PM
How hard is it to get a fecking drivers door lol, and no i aint paying mk1 escort prices ffs lol

Southie
22-01-14, 03:14 AM
How hard is it to get a fecking drivers door lol, and no i aint paying mk1 escort prices ffs lol
Probably easier/cheaper to strip, weld and fix yours ;)

Glad this is getting a change especially in a iconic style... Tbh though somehow the flip paint and brashness of this suit your appearance more, with the changes I'll be expecting you to be wearing a suit lol

Alex J
22-01-14, 08:45 AM
shes 90% ready to go now, all ive got to do is peel of the sticker flex were the skirts were bonded on, and shes ready to roll!!

https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/1525222_680088958721679_1898234312_n.jpg

dgbnova#1
22-01-14, 09:04 AM

Alex J
22-01-14, 09:32 AM

Paint & body looks a tidy job mr merris! I used to apply a similar colour to the xj and s type jaguars at my old workplace so I know It can look great when flat/polished properly. I think you'd be far better off with a subtle grey pinstripe and wheels though? But I guess that wouldn't be you then as I know you like your funky colours! Lol

done a bit more today, but couldnt be arsed so went in..

first off, cut an old door up for repair panels for my wings lol

then welded them on the bottom, as the ohter bit was rotted though, but the wings are widened so i had to save them, also finished preping the doors and bonnet, and got them in primer..

Is this where Alex pulls the plugs, drains the oil into the cylinders , fires it up and creates his own smog zone !!

Its amazing how much smoke oil in the cylinders makes !!

Good work !

Ha missed bens comment,

Sorry what's wrong with plastic? Its strong, easy to cut, easy to paint or wrap, doesn't rot like wood or the rest of the car...
Oh yeah and i got a sheet bigger enough for about 20 scuttle covers, for a tenner...
Mines been on there for 2 years never had a prob. Had loads of people ask for templates of it and made two for other people to use...

Pretty much what I said on fb, buy gm save money and hassle in the long run..

Balley
17-03-14, 08:17 PM
No need to buy gm, just a good quality oe quality part. I have never fitted genuine anything to my Nova, I don't intend to either.
Try and use a proper clip to rather than cable ties as they don't tighten up as much. I used to see loads of cars with boots hanging off as they had been poorly fitted.

dgbnova#1
17-03-14, 08:21 PM
I don't see any problem in useing what Alex has built in anger you don't make that type of project to polish it I was being flippant tbh was serious About the cv boots but he's a big boy can make his own mind up

Alex J
18-03-14, 07:46 AM
new gm one on route, spoke to the supplier of the patten one, who said because it was a slide over boot and more flexible they expand alot at speed, thus hitting the top of the ball joint and leg, wish id known that before fitting four of the bloody things lol, and cable ties are as good as anything!!

Interesting phactz.

I have suffered the same holing of my eBay supplied 'CV Books'. They weren't slide-on's, but have holed in the same.place.
Know what you mean about not wanting to remove the joint. It's a foul job.
