and also had a genius place to put my expansion bottle, mighty make the pipes abit tight, but it should be ok, might also put the battery in the boot,

Surely an airbox would be better? The filters look squashed against the M/C. Look good though. I see the death rad brackets are still there...

LOL to the rad brackets, yeh i havent been arsed to change them yet, the rad hasnt fallen off. when i find my constructive mojo ill make some :)

and tbh you would never get an air box in there, the shortest trumpet being 16mm only sits about 10mm from the servo.
and having those filters squashed shouldnt affect it a massive amount. as a future upgrade i will put in a bias brake servo which will be smaller. and then change the filter set up :)

thanks

Edd

Loving the build, please get rid of those nasty rad mounts tho

bmw156
26-11-10, 04:59 PM

bmw156

lol ill just remake them in a couple of weeks when im off work :) until then i will try to take pics with out them in !

i would go for a corsa peddle box you are restricting air flow to the carbs. The air filter will rub on the m/c then ruin it. For sake of a few hrs could rid all your problems :)

scott.parker

Getting there dude!

a remote reservoir would be another option.

tbh i had never thought of the corsa set up, but its a good idea.

i shall keep it in mind :)

Running the short trumpets will only lower when you'll have peak power. If you're not planning on revving the engine then they shouldnt be a problem...

If you're that interested, look at pulse tunning.

bmw156
27-11-10, 08:48 PM
Thanks chimp. It will be a fast road car so shouldn't rev mental lol. And yeh I will have a look at it thanks :)

scott.parker
28-11-10, 02:04 AM
Fast road, means high revs...

burgo
28-11-10, 09:30 AM
Fast road, means high revs...depends on the driver imo, amanda drives quick but barely takes hers above 4k, where as i like to rev mine until it sounds like its gonna blow up lol

bmw156
11-12-10, 03:13 PM
thanks guys,

im now downloading PS so i can chop it lol.

and i have no need to go bigger, more inchs means more weight!

AlexW
11-12-10, 03:15 PM
Wrong car to be worried about weight!

bmw156
11-12-10, 03:16 PM
lol, ok name some advantages about going to 15" wheels

AlexW
11-12-10, 03:23 PM
They look better, wider, more grip when you want it and might mean you keep it out of hedges/lamp posts.

bmw156
11-12-10, 03:30 PM
They look better, - your opinion lol
wider, i can get some wide 13" wheels if i want to, my friend is racing with 13's i think and his are 10" on the rear.

more grip when you want it and might mean you keep it out of hedges/lamp posts. - IIRC this can be achived with having lower tyres pressures so more of my tyre sits on the ground.

if i have bigger wheels i would have better respose while cornering, due to a lower side wall etc.

saloonwoody
11-12-10, 03:30 PM
looks good mate :) wheels suit it fine ;)

Graeme
11-12-10, 03:31 PM
My shuv-it had 7x13 on the front and 8x13 on the rear, minilite replicas and was lower 60mm looked and handled great, I was the envy of all my friends at 16 years old

bmw156
13-12-10, 05:59 PM

braved the wet and cold today and went and done some bits on the chevette.

this arrived in the post. bonus points for what im using it for lol.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/3fcea8ce.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/b120e100.jpg

onto the throttle linkage, i was always worried about this because the pedal isnt the normal type when you just stick a block on top. it has a weird linkage which i wanted to use.
this is the main part of it

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/0d118a49.jpg

i had a bright spark and made this.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/36dc6035.jpg

ground of the ball joint. and opened the hole out to 8mm
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/1100195d.jpg

and assembled back on the car
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/b2abb619.jpg

worst case. if it fails then the throttle will snap shut and kill the engine so i wont die!

continued with the cooling
please ignore the mix of colours lol.

first hose all in place, just need some jubliee clips

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/e36e73ee.jpg

also decided to use the standard water pipe as it gave me more outlets.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/9f580708.jpg

and not alot of room in here for the end pipe!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/28be0dac.jpg

Your not going to run that front pipe like that are you? Would be much nicer with a bent metal pipe with just two small silicone connectors?

02-01-11, 03:55 PM
Why do you need to restrict the steering?

bmw156
02-01-11, 04:05 PM
because of the bigger brakes. they want to hit the lower arms.

it only needs doing by a small amount :)

That weld dose look nice! strange how for all these years people lead you to bealive that welding is some dark art thats hard to learn, from what ive found 85% is the welder/setup the rest is down to practice!

yeh its proper nice.

i would say its 95% welder ad 5% the person doing it.
this is proven from a guy at work, never welded before, and he wants to train, so with our big powerful welders, we set him up, and after a couple of hours he can weld "ok". couple of 8 hour days later and he is 70% there!

Paul
20-01-11, 05:41 PM
Welding is an art, wait til you weld upside down, where the torch barely fits in 3mm onto 1mm, you cant get you head near with the mask on, thats the hard bit.

bmw156
23-01-11, 03:21 PM
Hey Guys,
after paul gave me a visit yesterday, he suggested some things for the chevette and its cooling system, about how it would be hard to get the main pipe to the bottom of the rad.

so i brain stormed and came up with a very simple soloution - turn over the rad.
it worked wonders, and this is my old coolant pipe vs the new one.

old
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/e36e73ee.jpg

new
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/08bc4e32.jpg

also have the pipework for the inlet manifold water pipe

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/a41ad8f3.jpg

and finished of the heater matrix.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/e0d348e4.jpg

all i have left now, is the header to the spare outlet on the black plastic pipe and the big outlet on the black plastic pipe to the bottom rad.

this is my idea atm - will the pipe melt if it runs next to the exhaust...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/1099b466.jpg

Edd
23-01-11, 03:23 PM
wouldn't run that pipe there mate tbh imo it will melt

looking good tho

bmw156
23-01-11, 03:25 PM
yeh thats my thoughts.

could i heat protect it?
run an alloy piece?
hmm options lol.

Edd
23-01-11, 03:26 PM
you could run a piece of alloy pipe

is that just going to heat the coolent right up tho ?

bmw156
23-01-11, 03:32 PM
this is my current plan.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/coolanthose.jpg

but as you say it will heat it up no end.
the exhaust will be heat wrapped.

Paul
23-01-11, 04:02 PM
Your header tank needs to be on the other wing really.

Regards to that pipe cant you run it the other side of the wing, holesaw 2 holes through it?

bmw156

god paul you come up with some great ideas lol.
the header tank, your right, the other side would make my life 100x's eaiser.

and as for the pipe i will need to have a look at the suspension set up as it all sits very close there. but certainly an idea.

bmw156
23-01-11, 04:54 PM
paul - you are a legend

just went and flipped it to the other side (one advantage of having the car on the drive lol) and not the routes are alot better for the cooling.

will have to relocate the FPR but it wont be an issue.

have a ****ty picture

Martin, now i don't mean to be a annoying, but you might want to order some more washer pipe, as it needs to be black or none translucent, as thats the main reason why the washers/piping etc gets clogged up on old cars, as black/brown algae grows in the tank/pipes from UV exposure, thats what the manky black stuff is that normally comes out of a rear wash wipe and blocks it up on old mk1 novas, as they use clear pipes on rear wash wipes etc..

TRUST me on this one, or just check the net for it I'm sure it will be somewhere about it.

thanks browney!

and scott, thanks for the info, stupid question time, will it still be affected even though it will be under the bonnet, so little sunlight can get to it?

hey guys, small update, not been doing alot, have a few machining tasks in the future to do, but for the moment i have been doing the wiring for the megajolt.

start of with a plug - if you ever do this, and get a chance pick the bottom one
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/8891602a.jpg

one crank sensor extended
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/efa43483.jpg

one coil pack plug extended
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/58254f3f.jpg

a trip to the car and a measure, and some of this later
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/6ff2944b.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/cb62f057.jpg

and you end up with my current wiring loom
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c325/bmw156/4e51b342.jpg

the missing wires are - live, earth, wires to the MJ plug and what ever comes of that plug.
for the moment, i could put a live and earth on, and the engine should run on its limp mode. i just need to sort the engine and get a trigger wheel.
