Cheers pal, yeah can't wait to get this tractor back on the road...
Was quite funny as its the first time my girlfriend has heard it run and I think she were expecting it to sound like a 400hp v12... she didn't look that impressed when it was ticking over smoking and rattling away! Lol

ha ha lol my girlfriend thought mine was funked when i first pulled up in the TD cause ive always had petrol with exhaust systems
id remove that breather filter andjust put a pipe down the back of the engine, towards the floor, dont want that engine and bay getting dirty lol
i`ll second this dan, i had mine like that for a while put it made a right mess, another reason why its not a good idea having there, is that the fumes get sucked inside the car by the heater blower, makes you feel sick:tard:. iv jus got a bit pipe going down below the diff:thumb:. anyway good work mate nice to see it up and running
Get your fluid bottles in the dishwasher for a good clean and be proper anal lad lol bay looks smart though mate!
I will do, just running up with water and flush to clean the engine out first.. I have a lot of cleaning to do yet!
Cheers :)
looking good in the bay now mate
Topman will look class! Will have to come have a look when it's done! Might need ya neighbour to do me some powder coating to :p
Cheers Nobby :)

Update...
Sorted out my coolant leaks.. :)
Tided all the wiring up and cable tied every thing up which could shafe and course a problem at later date..
And then got her rup to temperature.. Every thing seems to be fine and overall am very happy with it !
Dan
how did you fix the leaky hose Dan?
good to hear its getting uo to temperature nicely, not blowing hoses off like the last engine lol
also your signature is huge lol
Cut the pipe down, fits better now too :) ...
,and the stat wasn't sat in right thats why it were leaking lol.
My sig will hopefully get smaller soon! Make that very soon!
lol proper easy fix then. thats what we like :)
Ill maybe want my rocker cover doing when I decide on a colour for the car what colours can he do?

Seats are sexy as fook! You just need to get the rear bench done now mate.
Liking this alot!!
cheers Jay, undisided on what rear seats to go for?!
what about GSI rears, but with the coloured center sections retrimmed in a similar fabric to the buckets? Shouldn't be to difficult to just do the middle bits, and would match the fronts really well.
I made my slam panel brace removeable today
Cut this piece out to bolt it to.

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/DSC01507.jpg
I have now painted the bonnet.. will get some pictures when its dry
All I have to do know is mount the slim line fan, fit the bumper and grill and get the brake lights to work.. So if all goes to plan she will be on the road very soon!
Oh and I have ground a bit off the gear linkage to stop it from touching the starter..
Dan
nice :) did the bonnet paint up ok? steve didnt come in and lean on it? lol
we need a photoshoot once yours is back on the road mate
Ooooh it's getting close lad!
Paints ok but I think it wants more as its a tad thin in areas...
And yes Dan we are very close to completion :) (thank Fu£K)
you got enough paint left?
Nope I have used 4 tins of gloss now aswell :(
fookin hell, thats a fair bit, especially for white  though suppose you have done both sides and the scoop. not as good as my 1 can for 4 wheels is it though lol
No it bloody aint. 3 of the tins werethe big 500ml ones aswell :/
oh dear :( probably would have been cheaper to use proper paint in the gun
there only 3.19 a tin trade :) one more and it will be fine :)
Nova is on the road :)
Have some issues though..
Alternator is tempremental
and one of the boost pipe keeps blowing :( easy fix though!
other than that she is pretty good :)
good to hear its all up and runing, here u need to do this :)
http://www.tdocuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9302 look at the bottom of the page

and yes, that is touching the back of the stop lol (the speedo cable is snapped btw, but 20psi is a good indication that we were moving at the time)
you got any videos yet?
when he does your in for a treat, it sounds awesome, and goes like a stabbed rat :d
sweet :), i would of thought a stapped rat wouldn`t move that much really lol
hmmm, maybe just a slightly stabbed rat then lol

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01522.jpg
Any way.. I emptied the cooling system. refilled with water and added one of these..
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01523.jpg
Left it running for half an hour and flushed the rest of the system with the good old hose pipe
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01524.jpg
I then wired up my fan using a 4 pin relay and a on/off switch inside the car..
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01525.jpg
I also noticed the gear box mount bolt was tocuhing the box and slowing making a hole in it so I shortened the original bolt by about 5mm.. job done :)
and here are some on the road pictures

Lovely project, coming along nicely. What is the intercooler from you have fitted on top of the engine?
Cheers Pal, its a Astra TDS intercooler with the outlet modified to come straight out rather than at a 90degree angle!
Seems to work well any way..
General Baxter
16-04-11, 08:49 PM
the problem your going to have is, the 1.7 uses that intercooler as std, so a 1.7 with upped boost and fuel, its still going to get a little hot
General Baxter
16-04-11, 08:51 PM
get a 1.7 in there then lol
oh and I Have retarded the pump which helps keep it cool
I wanted to but never did in the end

I wanted to but never did in the end
well think about it,
is it worth the extra bhp and touque to the extra tax and insurance you would have to pay :d
no not really lol... it was already 1400 to insure declaring the wheels, exhaust, suspension, bonnet scoop and brakes
it was a 1996, there are loads of different intercoolers worth having.. focus diesels look pretty good too
you what:eek: i thought it was a 1.7 you put in it :( o well i spose i will definitely beat you at pv then lol, bigger intercooler is a must you will be surprised with the differance it makes.
you have another 250 kg on me mister!

Every thing was very dirty,
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01568.jpg
..so I hoovered it all out and washed it down the best I could
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01569.jpg
I decided as everything would be on show I ort to paint the spare so I gave here a quick tidy up and spray..
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01570.jpg
As I didn't have time to mount my amp properly (as in make a bit of a boot build) I did this.. lol
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01577.jpg
Strapped some tools wrapped in a towel into the rear quater, put some jump leads on the spare and oil and water on the other side

That Looks Shocking Lol
I like it, its going have some surports made and a parcel shelf to, oh and rear seats when I collect them off connor!
Looks good mate, only thing i would say is i would keep an eye of the temperature of the amp, as it may overheat confined in a small space.
My sub and amp and speakers are coming out next week, cba with none it no more lol
looks good mate, it desparately needs some rear seats though :thumb:
Yeh I will do connor, it had no air before tho and never cut out.. it now has atleast 2 inchs all the way around :)
looks good mate, it desparately needs some rear seats though :thumb:
Cheers Lewis
Finally fitted the new speedo cable.. started by removing my clocks so I could get to the old broken cable.
I tapped the new one to the old one and pulled it through from the engine bay side. Was a bit hard to get through as it kept catching on the dash supports but we got there in the end!
New cable pulled through, still attached to the old one..
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01632.jpg
While the clocks were out I touch up the dash as a small piece of paint had flaked off, I only assume I didn't prep it well enough as the rest is still fine two years on.
And I also reattached the Rev counter needle as it fell off when the alternator was making it read silly figures lol.. did this and went for a spin with the sat nav to check for speedo era.
Speedo was about bang on so am happy with that.. pic 30mph in 5th ftw
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01635.jpg
Once I was happy with all this I rebuilt the dash back up. I then set about fitting this
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01631.jpg
Basically its a Fuel adjuster to compensate for the boost. My local machinist has machined a mm off the total diameter of the eccentric cone! Thus allowing more fuel + more boost which = more power.
New on on the left
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01639.jpg
So I removed the inlet and I/c and fitted.
Went for a spin and she went up from 25psi to 34psi :)
but looked like this
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ8QYMsyxmtMSU77ohJo3yO4ByRAuKxS 2h5EW2I5fA_ZYQnRdyo
Which is cool for drag racing but not for a daily lol ..
So turned the max fuel screw down half a turn and she now touches 27psi and there's only a bit of smoke :)

oh dear there is something up here..

get that oil cooler on asap
its hasn't yet I was running that for about a week last time, since I have had a new rad the gauge never really moves past half way.. I will get the cooler on soon though..
holy cow thats made a hell of a differance, might have to get your mate to do my fuel plunger aswell :thumb:
lol if you want mate.. :)
I would recommend turning the fuel screw down when fitting it though lol
Might get some one to take a photo of it
good stuff :) don't you mean the machined one on the right?
I'll take a pic of your smoke for you next time we're out :thumb:
and lol at your quad posts
Well I Have had a leaky fuel tank for a while now, so finally decided to get the new one fitted.
here is how she come..

Did you re make one from that white one that was broke earlier in your thread, as that one looks like one i gave to Dan16v on here, if its got lots of sticky stuff on it, then its the one i made, first one i did from 4mm foamex in 2004?
No dude Made mine from a microwave box template and then use a old foamex sign from work to make it. I made two tho. one for me and one for Lewis

Well as most of you know my O/S mount bolts broke again the Thursday before PV, I was gutted but such is life! Any way my legend of a Mate (Rob) towed me the 200 mile round trip in his MG so my clean yet broken Nova could make the PNG stand :)

Any way started to remove the belt and timing cover in order to remove broken bolts and fit the 1.7 back plate, tensioner and mount.

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01895-2.jpg
The Idea is its only a 'pivot' type mount any way so being solid it doesn't matter, also as it only resting on the one 16mm bolt it isn't going to twist the other mounting points. So IMO it will be strong and still simple.. But only time will tell!
Need to paint it all up tomorrow and fit the new timing cover, back plate, tensioner and pulleys etc then road test... Fingers crossed :)
very nice mate, i dont think that will be braking, i think you might want a nylock nut on there though.
I will get one, haven't got one in stock today but do have them fancy locking washers with the tabs on.
Hopefully rather than braking the bolts it will twist on the stud :)
Thanks anyway Sam :)

Good work on the engine mount!
Don't hang about do ya lol good effort lad looks smart hopefully will do the job and the rover won't have to follow you about lol
Cheers Guys, its all done now any way, its very smooth (doesn't vibrate what so ever) and very stiff, the engine don't move half as much now and it even handles better as there isn't 200kg of derv power pushing against you so much :)
Looks well mate, where you get the Png stickers from?
Cheers Jay. There from the club pack.
Well set to this morning finishing off the mount, first of all I removed it and painted it up.
Then I set about fitted the timing cover, tensioner and belt..

Then on with refitting the other ****ee
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01904.jpg
So went on road test and couldn't believe how smooth she was and quite, no horrible dash rattle like before either! She even handles better and feels so much more solid, Picture after the road test of her sat with lewis' older sister!

move the air filter
1) put it on the wing, that wing looks lonly, nothing on there
2) when driving, the warm air from the rad is blowing on to it, (not really a good point with a turbo lol)
Looks well mate glad it's sorted :) haha I see Lewis has still got his strip number on! Did he write the time next to it? Lol they look good though mate good effort!
Looks spot on, and its amazing how much smoother it is with a solid mount. doesn't make sense does it :tard: lol
but...
This mount doesn't look very strong.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz102/balley77/Nova%20TD%20Project/DSC01883.jpg
Looks well mate glad it's sorted :) haha I see Lewis has still got his strip number on! Did he write the time next to it? Lol they look good though mate good effort!
yeah it will stay there untill i wash it, and no I'm to ashamed to write my 1/4 time lol
Lol mine would of been left on but it rained on way home and flicked rear wiper on accidentally! Atleast you've got an excuse!
I see my seats have gone to a good home :d , price is that when i return to the midlands september, that i come to lincon and you have to take me for a ride in the beast. As the ride i had in it wasnt exactly fun, being towed through the pv show by an mg  lol . Looks good though mate, nice and clean
ps. paint my car for me please :)
Lol mine would of been left on but it rained on way home and flicked rear wiper on accidentally! Atleast you've got an excuse!
aha my rear wiper isn't wired up so no danger of wiping it off accidently lol
did dan fit your springs in a carpark today then? lol
Cheers guys, Baxter yeah I am going to make a air box! Plus I am going to fit a front mount as mine has cracked lmao! plus I don't see the point in paying more on the insurance for a scoop!
Connor I will take you for a blast in it next time I see you, maybe at billing! If you want to know what it goes like ask lewis or stupot :)
Lewis: didn't meet him as the mrs had just come out of hospital and is badly, so will do it another day lol, oh and the cardboard mount broke straight away so had to go back to the drawing board lmao
I should of thought of that really Lewis lol never mind!
Nar not today as dan said misses isn't very well so can't leave her at home alone! Should be fun doing it in a car park lol
Haha I didn't even notice the cardboard mount bet that will sort the problem lol
connor: it really does go like a scalded cat, your kidneys won't be able to keep up with it. 3rd gear wheel spin in the dry ftw!
ah fair do's guys, novas have to take a back seat occasionally!
and cardboard mounts for the win!
Connor, am glad lewis said that :)
Sounds fun :d , and things are looking bleak for mine atm, might be coming off the road in the next couple of days
Nah, needs mega tlc and a rebuild and also has mot and tax out next week and i'd rather spend a year rebuilding it properly than scraping it through an mot, in talks with someone about renting there garage for a year, and hopefully getting a new car in the next couple of weeks as a uni runabout. Dont know if you have noticed, but i am not happy with the condition of it atm and it will only get worse if i keep it on the road and use it for uni etc.
where are the pics of these boost pipes then? they are like pr0n :d lol
They will be uploaded soon, where is my video?
oh yeah, i'll do it now :thumb:
so 3 weeks late, here is your video Dan.
you started before i was ready so you have no beginning lol

Nice motor and top skills
First time I've had a look through mate, pretty impressed so far, keep it up
Edd
Cheers Edd, and DB it sounds better in real life :)
I do like the sound of a good diesel. Thanks fornthe rep too, I tried to rep you for the good thread and progress, but couldn't :(.
Thanks pal :) I will get another video up soon of it going up the box a bit!
Cool, I'll be looking forward to them.
Oh yeh!ni forgot to say, is that Irish Meadow you have on the sub box, in the boot?!
some kinda baileys rep, about all what was left after PV lol
Lol, i thought it was! Icelands own I think, either way, it taste good and contains alcohol.
I heard you breaking traction in 2nd on the video, whats the boost pressure just out of interest?
err might peak at 26psi in second, will touch 31psi in 4th and 32/3psi in 5th. Since I have had the plunger machined its like a different car!
Lol! Thats immense! I know we had my mate astra saloon upto 25psi, but he whimped out and put the washer back in, and tried to revert it to standard.
Id love to see what a properly boost derv (like yours)goes like!

I can say it goes well after being in it 2 nite. Was very impressed even tho took the p** for it having the devils fuel!
Cheers Dave, I will give you a hand with this wiring when ever dude. Are you free this weekend?
you need to turn your fuel back down Dan. Following through Harmston last night it was f*cking awful, we actually couldn't see your tail lights or numberplate reflecting, and you were only 40 feet away! lol
Yeah I did figure it were bad but I only did it as your lights were dazzeling me lol
you mean my perfectly adjusted lights? lol what about your search lights? :p lol
they are to bright mate, trust me on that couldn't see a thing
this must be the first time a Nova's headlights have been described as too bright lol i'll check them again next time i'm near work :thumb: probably a bit wonkey having taken them out a few times

Any way went for a spin, it does lag a bit more, takes about 500rpm more to boost fully and its lost 6psi but does feel to want to rev higher and pull harder all the way to the governor! Still requires loads of little bits before billing but am getting there!

im just going to get a custom rad made up so i can run the pipes down the sides of the rad

They look smart I think, any way on Tuesday I bought this little beast with the intentions of having a bit of fun and doing it up..
I have stole the interior out of it to fit to the TD and made some custom door cards. The Black one will be getting a black interior hopefully leather :) and maybe a 3.2v6 at the same time.. any way I will start another project thread for that... here is the interior what do you think?

Some of you may realise she is wearing Yorkies old boots :)
Well any way this was the last time it looked like that, over winter she is having a 'face lift' :P I have a lot of plans, mainly trying to make it look standard+. I am going to respray the full car, fit new sills and arches.. refurb the wheels in the original colours etc etc. I say standard plus as I still want a huge FMIC and i still want window surround, but this time I want the grey blue Vinyl. I just want it to look subtle.
Any way I have sourced a new Bonnet, Old one is for sale BTW. And have spent about 4 hours smoothing it.

gas space heaters create moisture not recomended for drying paint.
