Yo, been a member on here for a while now and had 2 other novas.
this is the new project.

a 1987 Nova Club

The plan is to get it mint condition and lower it about 100mm

Its supposedly had no major rust.

I have just won it from ebay for 155 pounds and i plan on picking it up tomorow, heres the pictures.

Well it's a club alright as that interior is bizzare lol

Looks like it needs some work on it thought (rear arches and doors).

Any pics of the usual rot places, boot, battery tray, inner wings etc etc

Thats all the pics ive got right now (off ebay) till i get the car tomorow.

It will be kept standard, mint paintwork, satin black bumpers and parts and 2 big hella spotlights on the front old skool style.

I might get the rear beam and other parts underneath off aswell and give them some rust treatment and hammerite ;)


Oh, and a nice small stainless exhaust, OUTWARD rolled :)

i started off just like u fella, 17, no license ,ebay nova and a lot of motivation! im 20 now and still havnt finished!!!..lol, moving out with the misses kaned any money i was earning but now ive decided to have another crack at it, take it your gona go down the 2l 16v route which is easy with the amount of info available on the net, check me build out my be of help to you as any problems your gona have ive had, trust me! good luck mate

I plan on putting a C20LET in the future.....because lifes too short :thumb:

keep as a 1.2 for now with a clean looked after engine.

its got MOT and he says it flew through without failing anything, no TAX though, so i have to pay someone 30 quid to tow it back for me :cry:

Got very little rust, im putting new GM wings, sr spoiler, delersport mudflaps on it later and might be stripping interior and putting leather buckets.

its got 1200 engine with 1300 cam ngk iridium plugs new distributor and straight through exhaust and spax 40mm springs all round.

theres no rust under the doors or in the engine bay o on the bonnet or anything.

Im going to take the whole front end off later to put new wings so i will see if there is rust under there, im going to give the whole car a good rust treatment and paint, it will never ever rust ;)

Needs a repair panel putting in.

Then i sold my SPAX 40MM springs for 25 quid and a set of corsa b springs which i am going to chop and use temporarly until i get proper 100mm lowering springs and new dampers.

I was messing around with it WITHOUT springs in the backend, looked mint.

also the bit that goes round the geadlight that touches the wing is bent with rust at the bottom, looking dood but get it sorted or it will munch away

Yeah im fixing the splash guard soon and the front panel.

That hole was where there was some plastic electrical thing screwed in and rusted around it a little bit so i pulled it off.

Its not bad enough to even mention though. my old nova didnt even have splash guards thats how bad the rust was !

that would be for your aerial mine was the same, good work fella, try using wire brush attachments for a drill loads quicker than doing it by hand:thumb:

Update:

Stripped interior out and put my Vauxhall Fire extinguisher in.

The starter motor f**ked up aswell so ive had to buy a new one and when we fitted it it didnt work so we have to spend today messing around with it again.

Small update.

nova got broke into the other day they bent the door back and now its broke, butthey didnt take anything :S

Took the front panel back to bare metal, got rid of the rust and zinc primered it then left it in filler primer ready for paint.

and ive painted the head silver with vht paint and got the polished cover on ;).

Coming on Lew. Word of caution mate. With this being an open site anyone can view it as you know. This is why WIP threads can sometimes do more harm than good if someone is keeping an eye on your car through forums!

Thanks Liam, never thought about that but i know what you mean ive heard of it happening to people on here before.

Anyway, we got the starter motor in properly today it was a dodgy earth connection from the gearbox to chassis that caused the problems, had to buy a new one from halfords for 4 quid ffs.

car is turning over now but not starting, suppose we will do more troubleshooting with it tomorow :tard:

Got the red stripe from the car shop about 1.50, im going to do a full respray propably Polar white or a very bright white.

Finally got the seats in by modifying the original frames.
and the car is going into the garage today on a ramp where i can get underneath it, funny thing is its lowered about 100mm on coilovers set to stiff without any springs in the back and my dad has to drive this thing to his garage and he doesnt like being seen in old bangers with primer all over them that bounce all over lol so its going to be a laugh driving it up.

Just found out my lass is pregnant:d, so need the money. bumper is on car now but do you want my old one £10 i'll post pics in morning (will need a little fibre glass repair). Also post you some pics of that custom 4 branch i was telling you about.

you will be able to lower it more, lower it just before it starts hittin bump stops while someone is jumping up and down in boot (on chassis legs so they dont go through floor lol)

this is manifold you can have it for £15 if ya want it my mate will weld it 2 ur car for £10 aswell. (will need welding as the 2 pipes need to be welded into one then welded ontoi ur existing exhaust).

My dad welded the front panel up today and i shot blasted all the rust and put a SH!T load of underseal on it

also got my new tie bar and a GTE steering wheel thansk to VX kev ;)

I wouldn't put Slabs on it mate...they cheapen the look of any car IMO

Get some Motorsport inspired wheels on there in a nice shiney white colour :thumb:

I would of had those Compomotives that are all flat with holes around but there very expensive. and ive always wanted a nova on slabs :)


Went down the scrappy today and got some intake pipe off a 2.0 turbo saab and made a custom intake for the nova today

Just need to cut a section of the bonnet out so it sticks out of the bonnet nicely.

Aye mate i got that license 2 weeks ago for my 18th birthday, its says lui5, cos me name is lewis lol

I havent smoothed the handle, there was a big dent around the door handle and ive fixed it, had to smooth it out the same shape as around the handle.

theres a lad on here got a nova xe with gsi bodykit thats done about 8k miles, and hes got the non grab handle boot the same as me, but he has smoothed the lock off, since the lock on my boot is f*cked and theres a dent around the lock, i think i might aswell do the same ;), ill have pics tonight of it done hopefully.

the springs are in, i jacked it up so the back axle came down then placed the spring in and positioned it in the right place then put wheel back etc.. and brought car down slowly, heard it snap into place, shook the car about by the roof to check it was ok.

really bouncy but its got GAZ adjustable shocks on the back that ill need to set.

I know you gonna get proper springs but when you driving about and hit bumps and **** their is a big chance them cut rear springs will fall out and im not kiddin it will happen!! you need to secure them in with metal cable ties or summot just untill you get proper springs

I would use the GTE badge on your grill and not have any others apart from GTE or Sport stickers

Always had a thing for the Yellow SR's though so theres something in the back of my mind telling me to spray it jaimaca or mustard yellow, only thing is id have to spray under the bonnet, insides of doors, inside car engine bay etc..

so im not 100% yet

And im thinking about building a Mk1 GSi, in the UK before 1990 you could only get GTE but in other countries you could get a mk1 GSi so i might build mine into one, doubt you will see another one.

painted the slabs gloss white and went wround the tyre letters with one of those pens, also did the front bumper white and black to get an idea on how it will look.

Nah the plan is:

anthracite wheels/bumpers/door handles/skirts/window surrounds, and all other small bits.

everything else will be sunburst red, and hopefully ill paint it to the same standard as Nick J's :)

Nah mate they need to be driven no matter how clean or shiney they are - I thought the same about my Nova

Had it that long and always kept it pristine but it's there to be driven - Even though it's only a 1.2 single-point with 4 gears it's very very good fun and gets mega looks out on the road

Vaughan dont you think that SOME novas should not be driven, i think decs sport shouldnt be driven, otherwise it wouldnt stay in the condition its in.

When Vauxhall were doing that style of badging they used the old square griffin instead of the newer round griffin as it's an 80's thing with the Dealersport

Same as the cheap'o mudflaps you see on eBay with the round griffin

Yeah rattle cans mate, used a whole 2 tins of lacquer on it, around 12 coats, and sh!t loads of turtle wax ;) im planning on puting 10 lacquer coats on the car, but i will spray the car properly with the gun.

Nah i really want to get this paint spot on so its like a mirror, ill be flatting the whole car with 2000 and ill propably not be able to have a w4nk over it afterwards because my hand will be hurting so much lol

Vaugh - Yeah the dealersport is a bit overdone but its by people in corsa's not novas, but the reason im going to use dealersport mudflaps and stuff is because when i had my old nova that i never finished, i had those mudflaps for it and never got to use them, then scrapped the car, so this time around id like to actually use them

Forgot to tel ya theres a nova gsi in th scrappy up the road from me, seen it wen i was raping the blown up calibra turbo he has in for parts. Bailey dump valve with t-piece and samco hose and a turbo tophat cover for 35 quid! They took 15 for the nova gsi dash!

No not yet, i thought i had it sorted but the guy who was supoposed to help me dropped me in it on tuesday morning, so i spent the whole day walking to police station,compound etc.. trying to get info on how to get the car back, it seems the police have blocked a way around every way of getting your car back if i dont get it back by the 8th Jan, it will be crushed.

I have to be insured on the car to get it out and because i have points that are "Pending" It would cost me 3000 pounds and then another 200 odd to get the car back that way, i think weve found a way around it but i dont know for sure yet, and every day i leave the car there it costs me 20 pounds. and its got no windows in so my SRi interior is taking a beating.

Ok good news, after having a HUGE carry on, i found a way around getting my car back, i had to put the car in my dads name and then get the car insured which cost 60 pounds then i had to find a recovery truck, so this lad helped for 30 quid, then it was 220 pounds to have the car released from the impound. then i had to get my dad to come to the police station with me and show his driving license and the car log book etc.. so they can sign a release slip for the car.

so after losing all that money which i cant really afford to lose, i managed to save the car.

Everybody was saying, oh its just a nova it isnt worth all that money just leave it and get another one....yeah right.

I got caught "Street Racing" With another member on here in a corsa (Not cooltiger) And the copper scared the tats out of, talking of prison, loosing my, job, my gf, my life really!

And since then, I GENUINELY havent driven like a bell sniff!

Every time I get the chance, I remember that night 5 weeks ago, and think, If I get caught, im going prison lol

I am awaiting a court summons, where I will probably get reamed!



And lewi, not to scare you, but a mate of mine has just got 10months for the same thing nearly!

This is not a "Matt the Tw4t" messing around, this is serious!

Took it out, aged 17, no liscience, which then invalidated the other legalities!

Hit the back of a wagon, nobody was hurt etc!

Are the bumpers gonna be anthractite to match the bottom of the car? They look black in your pics. Wheels should be anthra too IMO.

I'd say same for the grille. Baiscally a standard looking SR front end.

Yeh the wheels and the bumper are the same colour, ive chose this funny shade, wen you look at it in bright light, it looks like a mettalic grey/silver, when its darker like inthe photo it looks really black, in normal day it looks like a dark shade of anthracite, which is what i wanted cos i didnt want to paint anything just boring old black..

I don't want to start the debate again but I know for a fact you could get 'bumper grey' in cans from VX a few years back. A kid from the kr00zin days painted his bumper in it after adding a number plate recess. Just if you wana be OEM.

Tried to show what i meant about the colour looking grey in the light and black in the dark.

im happy with it, but i think the wheels are going to have to go silver, i want cav turbo wheels but cba cutting driveshafts and stuff up.

But i think there is too much black all in one place and the silver will kick it off and stand out among the black know what i mean.

But i dont know if silver is going to look good on slabs, might need some 5 spokes, really want cav turbos though :(

IMO any coloured wheels look gay - They come silver so they should remain silver

I've tried grey wheels before and they don't compare to nice shiney silver wheels

Each to their own though - I also think they devalue the look of a car and also look like steelwheels (lost wheeltrim effect)

They can look good but things have to be certain colours and stuff to make them look good.

I think ill spray them silver, get the car sprayed up and see how it is, but if i dont like them what wheels can i get ? dont want speedlines cos they are way too common, would prefer to stick with vauxhall wheels really.

wonder if theres a way to easily get cav turbo wheels on..

Also have a look at Calibra SE wheels ;) 15" and look very smart with 195/45/15's on them
