They arent that bad actually, ill keep my eye out for a set to test out.
I was going to do 5 stud convo but people from here were on about cuting and welding driveshatfs and stuff up and i really cant be on with taking things to be welded perfectly and stuff, mate of mine said i might be able to use zafira 5 stud hubs and normal nova shafts, but i dont know... might have to get a topic going for advice..

Liam. the bottom of the car is anthracite and the wheels are the exact same colour.

You like it ?, i think it looks too much of the same colour all in one place, some really light shade of silvery/anthracitey cav turbo wheels will set it right off.

Got a red carpet from "RedNova" Cheers mate. gave it a valet and stuck it in, still going to hammerite all round the holes in the floor with the rubber caps in and put some insulation down to keep it warm inside.

Isnt really any dust on it, i gave the garage a sweep up.

Theres 1 or 2 small runs in the lacquer because id put so much on, but ill be flatting it all out and getting it reaaaally shiny.

I think one of the wings is messed up, theres a big run in the lacquer so i might have to paint that one again. but everything else is perfect, should look amazing when its all polished and got the bumpers and windows back in.

Oh, its also the 1st time id painted a full car, first time ive touched a spray gun in about 2 year !

Looks good mate. Did you wet the floor down too? Also I would have masked right along the bottom of the car, covering the wheels etc to stop any shi!t being kicked up.

I like the Sport masking paper, but you should have bought a brown roll lol. Don't have to join it and the newsprint won't come off on your hands and then onto the bodywork!

I only hope for your sake that the Sunburst red doesn't look like a faded flame red in peoples eyes.

I look forward to pics of it being built back up. :)

Thanks guys, im back at work tomorow and ill take the camera with me and start taking the paper off and flatting it.

i have got one of those big brown rolls but cba to use it, in person it just looks like a really BRIGHT red, but if you put bright lights on it like in the garage, then it lightens the colour and makes it look bright orange. its a really wierd colour.

Im a bit upset i didnt have my irmscher grille in and painted though, just have to keep on looking for one.

lol nah it isnt at mine yet, the "boss" left me with the garage key for the past week, so ive been chilling in that garage all day and all night "Working Nova-Time"lol you could of come down but i think hes coming back in to work today so its too late now, hopefully it'll be back at mine soon.

Wierd how ask that when i planned on updating this tonight.

The car is jammed in the garage with a stripped down old beetle infront of it so i cant work on it at the minute BUT.

Ive bought some 200,2500, and even 3000 grit wet n dry paper to flat the paint with, so when i get the chance im going to go crazy on the paint and polish it.

also been welding a stainless backbox on, but no pics yet.

and i went crazy cleaning the E16 top end and my polished headcover.

Thinking about putting the 1 piece bumper on, maybe painting the bottom of the front panel anthracite to match the rest of the car, and putting some big spotlights on, dont know yet though.

Sr bumper will look good with the irmsher grill/headlights but smooth the little gap on the top of the bumper.... i will try and find a pic of what i mean

i've just butchered the loom for mine. cut the spi loom out, ecu plugs, heater wiring and other unnecessary parts, will look much tidier now. getting good with nova wiring now, didnt have a feckin clue when i did my xe conversion. sure the LET will give me some new and interesting problems though

But he gave me the idea to look at both nova GTE bumper and Irmscher Spider bumpers

And there IS a difference, the irmscher bumper and grille coes without that slot

The SR one and that aftermarket irsmcher style grille comes with the slot.

But the other grille has the recess to fir the nova SR bumper.

Also just ordered a "90's" exhaust tip i will get this week to weld onto my new backbox, and im thinking about getting a huge decal for the back window, of fido dido, that is sort of transparent to look like its etched into the glass.

And my new PECO stainless backbox, i tried about 5 different backboxes on to get a good sound, and this one was best, i had to weld a pipe on the end to make it fit, and i have a new tip getting delivered for it.

The place I was at on my work placement used 3000 on a DA (WET) to flatten a car then buff it up with G6 on a Buff

Results were mega!

I'd buy a DA or a Buff mate and try and get velcro style 3000 pads and do it that way - You'll get a much better finish and it'll be quicker done :)

Got them both, but ive only bought sheets of wet n dry and not discs.

Ill flat it with a block, WET, then buff it, then turtle wax it. should come out nice. itll just take longer.

G6...Quite wet and go for it - I'd maybe suggest a better/more decent Wax than Turtle Wax

People say Autoglym is the best, but ive always used Turtle Wax and the reason is when i was a kid my dad had a garage and he must of used turtle wax because i remember the smell, and whenever i smell it, it reminds me of yeeaars ago being at those garages with all the old cars and stuff.

I have some Turtle Wax Hard Shell Wax but only got it because it was on offer to try it out as well

I like to use AG Super Resin Polish followed by AG Extra Gloss Protection then a nice generous coat of Megs Carnuba Wax

Havent got any other pics of the stripe, im worried the stripe might not work when i get skirts, because they might overlap it.

Ive also managed to find a quad lamp grille FINALLY, but the guy wants me to meet him half way, hes coming from yorkshire, and i cant find anyone to drive me half way yet...

And i have to pay him a tenner diesel, and whoever i find to drive me there, ill have to pay them aswell.

He only wants 50 quid the the grille though, so its still a bargain, just need to find someone.

Take a look. There's loads of cars run them with vinyl or painted sides. Looks wrong IMO. They need to contrast against the paint work.

Not always. Most cars don't have the original vinyl and are just painted gloss black with matching bumpers and skirts.

Have you thought about Mk2 Astra GTE sideskirts as there a wee bit slimmer than the Nova items and might work slightly better...? Just an idea

Then i painted the bottom of the bonnet, the squares in the middle im going to put some of this holographic chrome multi colour stuff on so when i open the bonnet and the light hits it, it will look all different colours, and im thinking of letting people who've helped me with the car put there signatures somewhere on those squares.

Well the yellow hinges, i dont know really, the yellow just looks crazy when its next to red, so i decided to do under the bonnet yellow/polished and red, one day ill order a set of yellow hoses for it.

Wait until ive fitted the bonnet back on and ive got loads of yellow bits and pieces under the bonnet and they will fit in nicely, those struts actually push the bonnet up higher than its supposed to go, theyre pretty powerful, but u can leave the bonnet half open like in that picture, i think some people do it like that when they are at shows ? or ive saw some old school novas do it before in 90s photos.

Grille looks good mate. Definitley make it fit better though.

lol @ the Fablon. When people used to do that to the underside of bonnets they used mirrored s/s iirc. Similar to what you intend to make bling brackets from. I'm not sold on it - looks better on a FG/CF etc bonnet where the strengthening is symetrical but pretty fun idea of having those that have worked on the car sign it. lol

I thought people did it out of stainless like, but this fablon makes fancy colours lol, im worried that when the engine gets hot it might melt, but i suppose i wont find out until a long time when i can drive it.

As for the front bumper, it needs to come off and so does one of the wings because i havent properly undersealed it, then i need to put all brand new bolts to hold the wings on.

And i think ill get a new set of plates made, and with In The Mix 96' Wrote along the bottom of them lol

all through those pics im thinking front bumper needs adjusted more than the grille and get to the bottom and my fellow brother has sumed it all up lol. i would remove the top fixings on the grille and see if you can tilt the top further in to help.

Yeah, i think when i make the new brackets ill drill the holes in different places so the grille sits furhter back, and at an angle with the wing, it should work.

But now im stuck with that gap in the bumper from where the mk1 grille goes, and i dont know if i should fill it in.

and i also have to put indicators in the bumper somewhere..

Plastic weld up the recess from the original grille IMO. If you're going for dipped/main on all four then you could probably have an indicator bulb inside two of the lamps..

Indicator will need to be separate to the lamps too. Deffo need to fill that gap on the Mk1 bumper!

Sidelight for indicator in one of the main lamps? That'll be ok as long as you don't use that lamp as a headlamp (as with lights on you won't be able to see the indicator). And you'll need to use the outer lamps as they're the dual beam ones, the inners are high beam only, so the indicator would need to go in the inners.

Not as far as I'm aware, I can't see a problem with having 4 dim/dip headlamps instead of two. I don't see that you'd get that much benefit in terms of brightness though, as they'd both have the same pattern.

...which leads me onto the main faltering point lol The problem with the lamps you have there is the outer ones will be for H4 bulbs (dim/dip), and have a lens design to suit. The inner ones though will be for H3, and have a lens design for a driving lamp. You can't fit a H4 bulb (dim/dip) into the inner lamp - it won't fit, and even if you made it fit, the lens would throw the beam all over the place.

The way to get round that is source another set of the outer lamps, and fit them into the inner slot on the panel. Then wire in, but cross that bridge when you get to it lol

I can see if I have any pics of mine to demonstrate the above?

Well the reason is just because i wanted all 4 lights to be illuminated at night so it looks better, and when im cruising and i flash at a mate or something, all 4 lights will come on and it would look good.

This is a H4 bulb (albeit a chavtastic blue one lol) that goes in the outer lamps:

If you want all four to light up all the time, you could either (as you said) put a sidelight into all four lamps - only when you turn the headlights onto dipped beam, the outer ones will be brighter. Or you could replace the inner lamps with another set of H4 lamps, and wire them all in together.

That won't work as the light pattern is totally wrong for a dipped beam light.

its not totally impossible to find some, have a look on ebay. I'm sure I've seen a few retaillers that sell them new, although pretty expensive.

I love how youve put window wipers on i havent got round to that yet. bonnet and bumper is lined up aswell and an indicator on the wing, youve been busy havent you lol oh ive just noticed the stripe along the side aswell, i think i might put that on today.

I just need to put a decent set of wheels on it im thinking cavalier turbo wheels painted silver. or maybe polished.

Since the engine is sold, were in a private property big yard with garage in, and ive got old baldy tyres on we thought it was a good idea to do a burnout, with people pushing down on the front, 90s style !

Ill make a start cleaning the engine bay up once the engines out then it'll be seam welded and smoothed, ill relocate the water bottles and stuff also.

Im starting to worry about the suspension setup now, because i had a little drive around the yard in it and the smallest things i drove over lifted me off the drivers seat !!

Once i get the Turbo wheels on ill spend some time getting the stance right and setting everything so its a bit softer, i cant imagine what it'd be like driving on the roads in this :S

Yeah flat and polished by hand, but with a buffer to polish it, im going to flatten it all again with 3000 wet n dry, when i get the time.

Im busy building a 1.6 8 valve for it.

C16SE Top end

After the 1.6 is all done and ive drove it for a while ill build a C20XE and get used to driving that, then it'll be C20LET, then propably alot of tuning and spending alot of money to get big hp.

But thats a couple of years time, id hate to jump straight to an xe or let and crash it.

Its got GAZ Coilovers, i managed to buy them for 80 quid lol lucky me.

Its lowered about 100mm, ill be playing around with the height and stance once i convert to 5 stud and put the turbo wheels.

Non declared engines are something that alot of people do, but its pretty foolish and a thing thats best kept to yourself, you know what i mean.

A Momo Benneton F1 steering wheel and gearknob, the one with the multi colours.

And im getting some 90 Spec Recaro seats retrimmed in cream leather with fishnet headrests, and ill get RECARO Stitched into them with each individual letter a different colour.

I havent even started on the interior yet though, apart from buying that red carpet lol

I fancy a rollcage aswell.
