Good stuff James! arches look fab! Does the bulkhead flex much where the linkage passes through?
Cheers John, the linkage passes through the bulkhead as it starts to become the exhaust tunnel so it is surrounded by the rack mount and isn't a flat piece of metal so subsequently is stronger by form - so no it doesn't flex much :thumb:

Just catching up on your progress, good work with the arches mate, as fro the shifter it looks really good, but I'm a bit confused on something, is there any lock out for reverse? how do you select it, just more to the left then 1st?
Scott
Count Vaux Alot
27-05-09, 05:39 PM
Same as a nova Scott push down and across to the left - you can see the spring at the base of the shifter in some of the pics.

Small update for tonight as i managed to get a little done in the hour i had spare.
Firstly a ground back all the FG on the O/S rear wing to a more suitable level and to get the rough shape, then hit it with the first layer of filler, its taking shape nicely already.

Out of curiosity, whats the width from tyre wall to tyre wall on the rear. Also what offset and width wheel are you using?
Count Vaux Alot
29-05-09, 07:00 PM
Ste its 1640mm wide, the wheels are 7inch wide on a 45 ET iirc.

Evening peeps! Here are this weekends efforts and fook me was it warm rubbing down - i had a dust mask on and the elastic straps have left a un tanned mark on my neck lol
Again as there is a lot of dust involved and not much progress of any real interest other than the various stages of rubbing down there isn't that many pics to speak of, but after another two days of sanding i feel i'm getting somewere with it now.
Here is the N/S after a rub down to see what areas still needed some attention, fortunately there were that many thanks funk
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller056.jpg
And here is the O/S after quite an amount of fettling - in the pictures below i have just applied the first guide coat so most of the filler work has been done and the shape of th arch is coming together
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller057.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller058.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller059.jpg
I could now rub the guide coat back gently to find any high or low spots in the filler and get the line across the arch correct
Please excuse the next pics the sun was out and i couldn't get a decent shot - after the guide coat and a little more filler added/removed from certain areas.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller060.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller061.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller062.jpg
And one from behind - the arches are pretty much level
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller063.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller065.jpg
Once i was reasonably happy with the shape of the O/S i masked everything up and hit both sides with some proper out of the gun high build primer (not the yellow Halfords w@nk) giving them a couple of coats and it looks ok
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller066.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller067.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/quaifeshifterandarchfiller068.jpg
Then while that was drying i cracked on with rubbing all the hard to get at areas down around the car, so only a small amount of finishing is needed before paint then the proper rebuild can begin WOOP WOOP!
And that means its nearly time to start bringing out the shiney things :D :thumb:
This is going to look mean when finished :) What front bumper are you having?

Looking good dude, good work with the guild coat. Best way to get things flat as funk. Do it in the primer too when you flat that off, shows up any scratch marks for the filling that might be left/missed.

As for the bumper suggestions i was thinking some sort of extreme jap style plough would suit it quite well

01-06-09, 09:11 PM
So after getting tired of rubbing down etc etc and the arrival of some new bits (big thanks Ste!) i decided i would crack on with something else for a change, so i got on with this.....
One new corsa B pedal box with RJ
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler008.jpg
One freshly drilled hole
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler005.jpg
And after a tidy up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler006.jpg
Then fitted in position - the MC's should arrive this week.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler002.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler004.jpg
Once i was happy that was positioned as i wanted i got out the pedals i had modified previously and gave them a quick coat of acid etch followed by some matt black.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler009.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler013.jpg
I then left that lot to dry, once its all back together i can make use of this box of metal braided snakes
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler014.jpg
While i was in the engine bay i decide to see what room there was for a fan up front with the cooler and rad in place. I think i will be able to get a 12 inch in there.
Fitted the rad grommets
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler007.jpg
Not much room with the cooler here
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler011.jpg
So it will probably end up around here somewhere only a little more level lol but maybe not though i may change my mind....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler012.jpg
That's basically it for tonight there was a little more but i forgot to take a pic of that doh!

Small update for to nights tinkering - i received the MC's (0.625 for the Wilwoods at the front and 0.7 for the rear drums as recomended by comp brake)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler016.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler017.jpg
Then fitted them up to the pedal box (adjustment will be needed once the brakes are bled etc)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler015.jpg
And made the pedal box a permanent feature with the help of some super slim bolts (less weight lol)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler019.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler018.jpg
Once the pedal boxs was secure in place i decided to see how much the braided hoses needed 'altering' to fit, the answer was quite a lot.
A rough fit
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler020.jpg
Not sure were the best place to put the reservoirs is?? Some were around here but lowere and with shorter lines obviously
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler026.jpg
Getting a bit ahead of myself i grabbed my front callipers from the parts storage facility (the loft) to see if they had the correct fittings in (they do) this is when i realised they were in need of a dam good clean
This is how i found them
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler021.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler022.jpg
I gave them a squirt of brake cleaner and the dirt along with the paint (at least i think it was paint) began to remove its self
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler023.jpg
They ended up like this nearly ready for a repaint

Looks like your reservoirs have been tapped and fitted with -3 fittings. If you want some the right size to go direct i am sure i have some.
I've just had a look at the reservoirs and they look like they would screw into the MC's if the threads were clean, but the threads are slightly damaged and i don't want to force them in - how would i tell if they were -3 Rick?
I also need the fittings to go from braided hose to the rear drum cylinders any one got any idea were those can be found?
John
Looking good James, calipers will look nice with a bit of detailing mate
Thanks mate...the callipers do need a little detailing but they will be good as new shortly :)
And on that note some more progress, i only had an hour or so tonight so got what i could done
I started by giving the callipers a quick mask up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler027.jpg
Followed by a couple of coats of acid etch
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/brakebiasboxradandcooler028.jpg
While these were drying i turned my attention to something i had knocked up whilst enduring an extreme stretch of boredom at work

Warning before reading this please be aware that the content is of a sexual nature!
Hi every one update time at last (well over due i know!) I have been very busy of late and the car has been more than neglected, but after another busy weekend i decided to crack on this week, beginning with a trip up to see a very nice chap by the name of Simon Armstrong at Ultimate performance (http://www.ultimatep.com/index.asp) he is a very nice bloke who is happy to chat and is extremely clever as well!
He did the CNC work on my head below:
(Ollys pics from earlier on in the thread)

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/XEInletPort06.jpg
So when purchasing a new inlet manifold for the throttle bodies from SDB (along with some other goodies) i decided to get Simon to CNC the manifold to match the head (it would have been rude not to) results below

I also received some other goodies such as
SBD coil and leads

FPR
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff039.jpg

Water elbow for the inlet manifold

An ITG sausage filter and backing plate

And the dizzy blanking plate
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff042.jpg
As i was now brimming with enthusiasm to continue i decided to get on with the car and body work itself.
Here is the FG boot and bonnet i recently purchased after a good wash, the bonnet is a Euro rally item, it was second hand but new and unused it is 100% spot on. As for the boot, well its second hand and of unknown origin and shonkey shonk basically.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff001.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff002.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff003.jpg
As i'm not looking for a show and shine finish this isn't that much of a problem but there was some damage and 'blemishes' read as holes that needed sorting. While i was there i thought some customisation Count style was in order so gave the bonnet the signature triangulating for some ventilation.
Here is the interesting job made of the bonnet pin holes - i'm glad they went to the effort....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff004.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff005.jpg
After removing the old pins i cracked on with the pre work
Old pins
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff006.jpg
I gave the hole boot a rub down to highlight the worst areas
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff024.jpg
then applied a little filler to them

I then rubbed it all back and finished off the prep, the result ready to paint
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff055.jpg
And on to the bonnet, similar process here but with the triangles added to the twist.
I did some measuring and an amount of head scratching then marked out the central line on the bonnet along with some other reference lines and finally the triangles
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff011.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff012.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff013.jpg
Then in was out with the drill, grinder and a thin disc...oh wait to late
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff014.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff016.jpg
Considering i did it by hand with a grinder i think it has come out quite well

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff023.jpg
And the back side with some of the supports removed to make way for the mesh i will add from the under side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff019.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff020.jpg
And the remains
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff028.jpg
I then keyed up the white gell coat ready for some filler
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/bonnetbootdoorsSBDstuff025.jpg
I only filled the two dimples left from the badge and repaired one of the top corners

The head and manifold are to much to look at at once without needing some light relief and is the best way to do it imo as the machine doesn't do getting it wrong that often, as for the triangles i love them but were a bit of a risk lol
The wheels were cut in half using a lathe but welded up by hand, due to all the rust in the wheels metal they were welded up ground back and re welded to ensure good penetration was had and there was no porosity (the rust, paint and ****e that cant be removed obviously reacts with the weld pool causing it to spatter etc)
Resin is then brushed on over the weld to insure its air tight :thumb: :thumb:
loving the wide wheels mate :thumb:

That head is ****ing stunning!
When you did the wheels, obv clamp them up and use a parting tool to remove the outr rim, then bolt up another wheel the other way around and use the parting tool to remove the inner rim. How did you ensure it was all true before welding it together? Or are you accepting a small vibration on the strip if theyre a little out of balance?
Im quite interested in doing similar for some track wheels but id need them to balance up perfectly and Im not sure what can be achieved.
Also, it must have been a ******* huge lathe!
Looking good James.Cant wait to see it once all done.

The wheels balance up quite well you are only cutting it in half at the end of the day and as long as the two cuts are clean then they should slot back together neatly. Then you make sure all the measurements line up and weld it up.
You would be surprised how out of shape most steel wheels are in the first place lol
Here is the lathe it is 'quite large'

Astra mk4 will be the wrong off set, as i think are the rest. arnt they all et 38.. That plus 7inch wide would be a killer.
mikey14sr
29-06-09, 01:06 PM
Most of them are only 6" width though, and the widening takes place on the front of the rim so the off-set problem is minor really, though 5mm spacers would bring it back if needed.

wtf do you want to widen them for if you dont want them wide :S
And the offset will be ****ed, for instance, 5.5 inch rim, et49 offset, widened by an inch and a half on the outside (as above) will end up being 7j et31 approximately. Since you wont find et60 something wheels to start with, youre always going to be below whats ideal for a nova.

Alistairolsen is correct widening completely funks offset....
Anyway lets forget the wheels for the time being and crack on with the project!
So, quite a large update in terms of both importance and jobs completed from over the weekend so here goes :D
I dragged the car out of the garage Saturday morning to start the prep work only to find i still wasn't 100% happy with the rear arches so i cracked on with sorting these out
Blemish in the fibre glass undercoat

And primed up again
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted007.jpg
Then i got down to some serious rubbing down - basically the whole car needed preping as i had only done bits and pieces previously Mr camera stayed out of the way for a bit due to dust.
After the rub down i masked up all the orifices, cleaned the garage out (all the sh1te was on the drive so i was praying the rain stayed away) Got rid of as much dust from the garage floor and surrounding areas and finally blew/ panel wiped the whole car down

Whilst that lot was drying (3 coats of green was applied to everything btw) i moved on to the doors.
The doors needed more work than the previous panels as they were in worse condition and had the pita nipples from the original trim that needed removing.
Both doors also needed some strengthening were they had been gutted harshly so, i welded the two skins together in certain areas

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted055.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted056.jpg
Leading me on to the prep - one door
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted039.jpg
Nipples removed and a small amount of rust attacked using a 60 grade sanding disc on the grinder
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted041.jpg
Then i blended all the sanded areas using 80, 150 then 320 grade sanding pads on the DA (Dual Action air sander)
As the marks on the door after sanding/blending were only minor i used some a small scrape of green stopper to cover them
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted043.jpg
Once the stopper was dry i rubbed it all back again and panel wiped it down
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted052.jpg
And shot it in some high build primer
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted057.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted058.jpg
This nicely leading on to the prep on door number two whilst the primer was drying.
With this door some tool had self tapper screwed the old trim on in one area so i had to address the hole left by that with the welder
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted062.jpg
Blended yo
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted061.jpg
And some filler and stopper applied

Awesome chief!! All that hard work and rubbing down on the arches has paid off. The lines are fantastic! Still not convinced on the colour tho but think I'll change my mind once its all bolted together.
Youve done a fantastic job getting the arch work stright from the looks of it.
Top work.
If the roof a bit patchey tho? Looks odd in the pics..
Whole car tho is looking awesome! Love the detailling on the calipars...
Doors look good too...
My thinking on the wheels was, the right off set means they sit fine on the inner arch where there's less room, and stick out on the front...

Cheers Benn, yes you are correct on the roof it isn't 100% as it isn't finished yet i wasn't going to mention it but as you have pointed it out....i'm not telling what yet though :p
As for the wheels yes they would be ok on the inside as you say.

Looks good to me fella. It seems you do a pretty thorough job of everything you attempt. I really like the colour too although detailing the calipers?? I can slowly see track car ethics going out of the window! Joking aside I think your a show car man at heart really as showed with the quality of your saloon. :)

Thanks Nick that means a lot coming from you given the quality of your paint work, As for the callipers i couldn't help myself lol
I love the aspects of both show and track car building equally - i also believe that a track car doesn't have to look like a complete bag of sh1t just because its a track car. It can still be tidy and tracked, look at trackdaynovas for example (that was a general statement Nick nothing aimed at you)

Anyway here's an update of what i've been up to over the last couple of evenings as thats what this is supposed to be about lol
I got the drivers door all primed up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted070.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted071.jpg
Then while that was drying i decided to try fitting the rear bumper with some bonnet pins before i paint it black
Bonnet pins
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted073.jpg
This is the bumper iron up against the rear bumper showing how much i cut it down
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted072.jpg
i whipped these out and cleaned them up a bit then fitted them to the car
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted074.jpg
I removed this bracket from the bumper iron as i'm going to use it to mount the bonnet pins
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted075.jpg
Then using the holes in the bumper iron that the brackets were mounted through i drilled the bumper

Trial fitted

I then proceeded to rub down the high build primer on the N/S door
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted090.jpg
Wiped it all down and shot it in the green, then hung it out to dry
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted091.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted092.jpg
And moved on to the second door, all rubbed down and cleaned off ready to paint
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted093.jpg
This was the point were disaster struck i w a n k e d the first coat on like a cu nt and it ran like forest gump (i think i mixed in a little too much thinners what a c ock) so that will need addressing tomorrow
T oss
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted094.jpg
So given that the drivers door now didn't need another two coats as it was funked i decided to fit the passengers door rubber
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted095.jpg
And refitted the door

Hello every one what a busy weekend its been....
I started by amending the paint on the door issue by sanding it all back
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted099.jpg
And painting it up - much better now
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted100.jpg
hanging out to dry
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted105.jpg
I moved swiftly on to the wings i fitted the head lights to check the fit of the wings on the car
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted103.jpg
Th wings needed some sanding back, and a little filling
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted102.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted104.jpg
and some more sanding
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted107.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted108.jpg
A good wipe down
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted109.jpg
then primer
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted110.jpg
Sanded the primer back using 150 grit (as it was high build and it went on heavy with some runs, bugs and general sh1te in it) then 320 grit to finish it
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted111.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted112.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted113.jpg
and painted

Count Vaux Alot
05-07-09, 10:00 PM
Leaving the wings to dry i moved on to some head scratching, measuring and lining out in the roof area
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted116.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted119.jpg
can you guess what it is?....after masking up there was you guessed it some more sanding
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted121.jpg
Then some colour
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted123.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted126.jpg
Its come out well but its not finished - i have the smaller lines in the middle to do yet, thought it would be some thing a little different
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted130.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted131.jpg
While the roof was drying i fitted one of the back windows, dam their lite!
I also wanted to ask what rubbers/technique do people use to fit the front sliders??
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted129.jpg
And cut some triangles in the front bumper
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted127.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted128.jpg
Along with lightening one of the door handles prior to priming
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted132.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted133.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted134.jpg
And to finish a couple of pics with the front wings balanced on
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted135.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/Track%20day%20nova/carpainted136.jpg

Cheers for the comments, the turrets are quite a big job so would be costly
looking good mate, love the wideness:thumb: if you use a 600 w&d you can paint a final coat over with no scratch opening when it drys. Have a look at the guide in articles for the front slider windows. I used it and the seals in question and it worked perfectly for me ( in my project wip aswell )
keep up the good work

Im liking this car a lot, some detail going into it, even though its being built for being abused, have some rep that man!

How long did your arches take you start to finish mate? Michael took basically 3 1/2 days to do mine. Full 8/9 hour days at that.

This is looking better and better with every post! really enjoying watching this come together!!
Oops sorry dude, looks great tho. And yeah that was me thinking on the rims hence the off set talk. Widing the wheels wont affect the offset at all.
Just to clear this up....
in-set, or backspace is the distance from the inner edge of the rim to the hub face and determines your inner arch clearance. This is a function of offset and width and is what youre concerned about benn to stop them hitting your tie bars.
Offset is the distance from the wheel centre to the hub mounting face and determines how the car handles with respect to scrub radius and various other geometric considerations.
When you widen a wheel on only one edge of the rim, the backspace doesnt change, so it will clear the inner arch, but the offset changes, so it will handle like a bag of ****e.
This is why most folk building 8" + wheels use them only up pod with slicks in a straight line, and most people on track stick to 7 inch wheels with an offset of more than 45mm as this is the max width that can be accommodated if you add the same to both edges before you run into issues with tiebars and the inner arch.

Well put.

Anless i'm reading that wrong your saying two things.
Offset is center to hub face, that wont chance when cutting the lip off and adding a larger lip to it. As your only adding the extra size on the front surely..

Offset is the total distance from the centre line of the wheel from front to back faces then you take a measurement from that line to the mounting face where the wheel joins the hub/disk/drum. It will change for certain by adding a deeper lip:thumb:
Ah thought it was all taken from the center now the outer lips.

It is taken from the centre, and it will change, if you make something wider the centre moves.
|...|...| if you add 4 dots to the LHS side of that it becomes: |.......|...| but the centre is now in the wrong place, it should be: |.....|.....|
Make sense?
I know, see my other reply, thought et was center back.
Ok, your reply didn't make sense to me lol Long as everyone gets it it's all cool, just trying to help :thumb:
