Thanks everyone the seats are Ollys -(Track day novas) old ones and i fell in love the first time ever sat in them they are the t!ts and i love them!
Does anyone know if you can get replacement covers for them?
Scott the cage will be comming out once i've mounted the seats then i will be bolting the cage into place once i've painted every thing etc.
Ah i see, but i was also asking if the end fitment will be bolt in or weld in?
As for covers try http://www.corbeau-seats.co.uk/accessories.htm
And good work on the rails, lol i was thinking i hope he dont get the 110v lead plug stuck under them, but im sure there not that low to the floor. :thumb:

Looking good so far :thumb:
A few words of wisdom on the seat rails :
You may find the spacing on the rails doesn't match the holes on the bottom of the seat mounts (You've probably checked this already - but not took pictures lol )
If your drilling straight through the box section - the correct method is to insert/weld a tube into the box section so it doesn't collapse/crush when tightening down the seat mount - personally I can't see your box section collapsing when bolting down the seats - but thats what the experts say !!!
The easy fix for this (The above 2 problems on my project resulted in the following -) is to weld brackets to the box section and drill to suit the spacing on your seat mounts :

Or there is the way mine were done, use some L shaped section steel.
You can gain access to the nut/bolt from front/back side of each section and there's no chance they will fold as it's an L shape ;)

Hi everyone not really an update as i haven't done much mainly due to this taking over my evening
http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116201 :D
I did however get the drivers seat mounted, I started by fitting the seat to the sub frames then resting it on the new rails and positioning it in a comfortable position.
I found the most comfortable position for the seat was the front slightly turned in towards the centre of the car and the seat close to the exhaust tunnel.
Once it was positioned i clamped the subframes down and removed the seat allowing me to mark out the holes as so
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats068.jpg
Then i drilled the holes and fitted it all back into place - it fits yay!

Got on with the other seat rails tonight
Started with this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats072.jpg
Tacked it all in as before allowing for slight adjustments to make sure everything was level
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats073.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats074.jpg
And the front rail
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats076.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats075.jpg
Then welded it in and drilled the holes for the subframes
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats081.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats082.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats083.jpg
The passenger seat is further back and lower down allowing fro better weight placement in the car and it also gives the driver a better view to the N/S :thumb:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats077.jpg
And here is the seat in place - quite close to the cage
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats078.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats080.jpg
Ive also repaired all the holes in the floor where the spot weld removal didn't go as planned lol
Is the pass seat so far back to keep the weight in the middle?
Where the battrey going? Lot of peeps have them behind the pass seat for the same weight in the middle reasoning.
Count Vaux Alot
12-03-09, 11:03 PM
Yes mate the seat is positioned for weight distribution reasons - the battery will be going in the N/S/R corner of the car to counter balance the drivers weight in the front :thumb:

James are you going soft, I thought you were a hardcore weight saving freak like myself :( Battery in the back means an exessively long cable run, the seat mounts need chopping down also, I do like the removal of the cross brace on the floor, I know it's not revolutionary nowadays, but when I built mine it wasn't the done thing to remove them, out with the spot weld drill for me :)

A very good question - the answer being i'm not sure when it will be finished asap lol
If you are going to all this trouble why didn't you make the driver's seat as far back as the passengers?
As i've said before the vision to the N/S with the seats side by side is poor but it is a good idea that i have considered and if i'm not happy once both the seats are inplace i will look into moving the drivers back.

Oli you are right and i hadn't thought about cable weight until now (james goes off to the corner to repent for his sins) were else could i mount it? In front of the passengers feet on the floor perhaps?
As said above the seat mount idea may change if i can find a reasonable priced pedal box...and i will destroy the rest of the seat mounts in due course lol
You need that floor cross brace removed.
Agreed

Is it a nice small redtop type battery? Either in front of or under the passengers legs/feet, their comfort shouldn't be a priority PMSL. or is there space between the seats? Or seeing as you like fabricating stuff, how about in the quarter behind the passenger seat, make some little box

It will be a nice small red top battery but i haven't purchased it yet...i think in front of the passengers feet/foot rest is the best place but your box in the quarter idea sounds good if there is enough room - i will look.

This made me laugh lol lol
Do you think that moving the drivers seat back level with the passengers seat offers enough gains to consider doing it(it can come back another 125mm)? As it involves - handbrake relocation, floor mounted pedals, extended rack, sorting the gear shifter position, hydraulic clutch slave etc etc

Respect for the post time lol - out lay in ££ isn't that much more than sticking with my corsa pedal box idea as they are £150 ish and the floor mounted stuff being about 3-400 for the good stuff but compbrake do do one for £200 not sure if its any good though?
Then the rest is just my time - the drivers seat will sit in the roughly same position as the passengers when its all the way back on the subframe mounting points if that makes any sense?
I will see how it looks with both seats in and actually how far back from the pedals the drivers seat is so i can decide what to do.....

I haven't had any time on the car since Thursday evening until today so here is what i've been up to...
To start i collected these yesterday what a bargain!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats085.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats087.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats086.jpg
And they are a wicked size for what i want (to fit the wide arches)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats084.jpg
I then looked in to this seat all the way back idea - and can confirm it won't be happening atm as i can't see any real gain over the current seat position.
Moving the seat requires quite a lot more work (handbrake, and steering column etc) but it will only go back about another 2inches before it fouls he cage so isn't worth the effort imo.
Here is the seat as far back as it will go before it fouls the cage - see the top left corner
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats088.jpg
all the way back on its subframes not that much room behind the seat
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats089.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats091.jpg
the seats are nearly level at this point
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats090.jpg
But here is the catch - i can still reach the pedals so they wouldn't need moving but i can't reach the hand brake or shifter comfortably
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats092.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats093.jpg
So i can't see the point in all that faf for 2 inches esp as there is no major gain other that its cool....
The seat sits like this in its current position
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats094.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats095.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats096.jpg
This gives a comfortable seating position, with good sight to the off and near side (which is important to me as it will be road legal and i like to see lol) and means i don't have to alter anything!
If all that made no sense at all i'm glad as it means im not the only one who didn't understand lol.
So to summarise i don't think there is any reason to change what i already have as there is little to any gain to be had for the effort involved.
Count Vaux Alot
15-03-09, 11:01 PM
Once i had finished funking around i got on with something more productive - one for my man Oli
I got rid of the entire old seat mounting
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats097.jpg
leaving this mmmmm weight loss
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats102.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats103.jpg
I then moved on to the cage....again. (Its almost done now thank funk)
I took the cage out of the car to weld the spreader plates in as so
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats098.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats099.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats100.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats101.jpg
I then slipped the cage back in (yer its like that easy) to drill all the holes for the mounts and tag in points.
Swarf in your hand anyone???
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats104.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats105.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats106.jpg

Count Vaux Alot
15-03-09, 11:02 PM
i'm really please with how these have turned out
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats108.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats109.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats110.jpg
And the tag in points
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats111.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats112.jpg
Now the cage is completely sorted fitment wise i whipped it out again (the cage that is lol) so i can paint it.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats113.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats114.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats115.jpg
And finally while i was clearing away i took so more of my new MO's what a bargain
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats116.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats117.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats118.jpg
That was it for today - should be getting on with the rear arches shortly, along with some more strengthening and perhaps some paint :thumb: :thumb:
Good work, liking the cage fitment pics, just what i needed.
Strange how your Mo's are identical to mine, but mine are only 6j width.

Cage mounts look sweet mate, and judging by what your saying its a hell of a lot of effort moving the seats and modifying everything to suit for just 2 inches, i agree it hardly seems worth it. Loving the weight saving on the seat mounts, I think I still have some of mine left. i'm not great with the spot weld drill and it started to look like someone had removed mine with an axe, so i gave up :(

Thanks for your views on the wheels - its good to have some decent visual content imo as threads are soooo boring otherwise and the pics help others attempting such tasks such as Adam - glad to be of help!.
Oli and for anyone else who cares the metal I removed from the original seat mounts weighed in at 2.2kgs
Anyway no major events to update on tonight as i have had a well over due clean up resulting in this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats126.jpg
there is quite a lot of sh!te there considering i try and clean up as much as possible after i've finished work on the car for the night as i hate starting back at it the next day with cr@p everywere. Most of this came from various corners around the shell and all those filings from drilling.
Then once every thing was clean i flipped the shell over again
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats124.jpg
Giving better acces for prep and painting inside the shell (as i can stand inside the shell through the door and rear window hole) , sorting how much i need to cut the rear arches up for the wideness, measuring up for the rear diffuser, plating the front panel and working out how much wider my bottom arms need to be with my new spacers (not the conventional ones i may add....details to follow lol) as well as tidying up under the front arches were i extended them etc etc ect.
Nice big garage!

Hi people sorry for the picture issue....all sorted now :)
any updates then ? :thumb:

Hi everyone not had an update for a bit as i haven't had much time on the car this week but i have done a bit so here goes...
I stone chipped under the front turrets and in the inner wings
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats130.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats131.jpg
Then i made a start on the paint prep on the inside of the car (warning this does include some extreme weight saving measures please have a tissue to hand at all times lol)
Just a general clean at first
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats132.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats133.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats134.jpg
Then i made up some strengthening plates for the front panel (these are the only chassis strengthening plates i am fitting)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats136.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats141.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats142.jpg
And they go here
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats143.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats144.jpg
At this point i decided i would go back to the interior and remove the final remains of that tar like cr@p
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats145.jpg
A wire wheel on a drill proved to be the best method

After finishing that off i though i would have a go at some more weight saving measures...it started like this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats153.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats154.jpg
That then progressed to this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats155.jpg
And then this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats157.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats158.jpg
And the other side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats149.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats150.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats152.jpg
The remains

Good point....not loads but every little helps and there is more to come lol
That's pretty cool, love the triangulation theory lol Also picked up retro cars on friday, love your not-so-furry dice :thumb:
lol i was genuinely asking, i want to do a bit of weight saving on mine in places that can be hidden and are not sacraficing too many comforts, as you say, every little helps lol
Constantly enjoying the updates James, keep them coming, the saloon looks excellent in RC, I must of red it five times already

Thanks for all your comments on both the cars - thought i'd try something a little different from the usual hole saw affair and the triangles have come out well.
I'm going to be utilising the hole saw shortly though lol
There will be no car left soon lol.
Love the pillar weight loss.

In the week i'm going to see were else i can remove material from - all of the usual places will be getting abused as well as some other areas....;)

Right like i said yesterday tissues to hand people i have had another weight loss session lol
It started like this -nothing out of the ordinary
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats160.jpg
I decided to try and remove as much as possible
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats161.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats162.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats163.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats164.jpg
Then i went in search of some more unneeded material
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats165.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats166.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats167.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats168.jpg
Last time i counted i had over 40 holes  and i haven't finished yet!!!
I wasn't 100% satisfied that there was enough material being removed with just the holes so i went for the old trick of joining some up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats169.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats170.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats171.jpg
And the remains so far
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats173.jpg
WOOT WOOT! i'm going to attack the shell again tomorrow the rear panel is getting some more abuse.....

all i can say is what the funk lol
Are you getting fibre glass doors????
Count Vaux Alot
23-03-09, 10:20 PM
No i'm not getting F/G doors at the moment they are to expensive and mine are pretty light now anyway....why is 'what the funk' all you can say?
cause as ernie said the other day you will have no car left at this rate
Count Vaux Alot
23-03-09, 10:26 PM
Probably.....lol
Dont go to mad as you'll lost alot of strenth, wouldnt it be easier to hollow out the inner bits of the quaters in sted of cutting the holes in them?
That will weight more..
Love the holes tho you crazy holemofo.
Count Vaux Alot
23-03-09, 11:00 PM
In its current state i don't believe i have lost 'alot of strength' the hollowing out would cause more strength loss imo.....

loving the cuts on the pillars, thats something ive not done on mine but could b a possibility. im building mine as a rally car so id like to keep the strength there as i know i'll roof it eventually, but if i ever have to replace the roof the seatbelt mounts will be binned!
heres some links to images of some of my weight loss ideas, most of them for very little gains but oh well, havnt had time to read thru your whole thread so dont be too annoyed if its things you have already tried or arent applicable.

also things like using a heated screen to remove the heater/fan/control and piping, cutting the inner webbing off the bumpers and removing all irons, hollowing out the GSi spoiler, stripping all unused wires from the loom etc etc etc it all counts at the end of the day.
cant wait till i get a spare evening to have a look thru and see what else i can spot that might be of use, from what ive seen there seems to be a bit more method being used than on many lightweight cars!

what strength does that area actually have?
in my opinion none, unless you really dont want minute amounts of flex in your rear windows.
if you rolled the car that area would be negated by the pillars around it (which in turn would be negated by the rollcage)
in a side impact that material was also fairly useless, but as there are never going to be rear passengers, and nova shells are ten a penny anyway im happy enough to ignore that.
one thing ive never seen the sense in removing is the floor mounted crossmember under the front seats, as that would im my opinion be a handy thing to have around when you skelp something side on!

I would also agree with most of the above apart from the cross member part as i dont plan on skelping anything out on track although i take it you are coming from a rallying POV (after having removed it i cant see it would offer much if any support)

Evening all!
I have been getting on with the strict weight loss regime this evening as well as some actual paint prep - here is what i've been up too
Got red of these as they were deemed as unneeded - the rear seat belt anchoring points - i tidied up the holes after i had taken these pics.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats174.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats175.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats176.jpg
And another hole here just because lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats177.jpg
Oh and a few more here
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats178.jpg
I think i'm nearly done with the 'hole' situation so i moved on to prep - basically concentrating on the inside of the car alone (this is much easier with the car on its side) i have keyed up the interior and began the masking up in preperation for some application of primer then paint :thumb:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats180.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats181.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats186.jpg
It all still needs a little more prep then a blow out (don't we all lol), and a degrease before i consider any painting.

Little update for tonight - I got on with the prep making sure i was happy with all areas etc then i gave everything a good clean/sweep/blow out and hoover as cleanliness is key to a decent paint finish :thumb:i also got a couple of heaters in the garage to up the temp a little ;)

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats195.jpg
Now the part you have all been waiting for....the first application of some paint (all be it the green primer i was on about lol)
The colour of the primer is hard to see but it has come out a light matt green which is a good base for the darker finish coat that i will be applying shortly.

You could mount the standard washer bottle in the rear inner wing by the B pillar, but then you have to trail the pipes all through the car, could you not just mount it right at the back right corner under the scuttle??

Not come up with a decent mounting method yet.
maybe make up a bracket where the bumper bolts to the chassis leg and put it down there.
May get dirty but oh well
Get a tiny mini one, they hold about a pint. Then mount that right up again the bulk head. Fill it via the scuttle pannel cut outs like i do my header tank..lol
dont some people relocate to the boot. like said before if you did this you could hide it in the rear 1/4. if you have rear doors card for wants of a better word it would only mean a small hole being cut wudnt it ? to fill thourgh

Did you have one on your most recent track car Olly? (question asked knowing full well he did...) and did you ever use the washers? (question asked knowing full well he did...)
So why on earth would i want to get rid completely? i understand removing it removes weight but on a sunny day i can run without if i want to.
IMO the advantages of having one out weigh the disadvantages of not having one.
I will run a small nova bottle and i want it to be placed somewere were the weight of it has the least effect on the car i.e a balance to something else and preferably some were as low down as possible.

behind the passneger seat on the floor with a long bit of pipe. the empty bottle etc is a few hundred grams and at best it holds two litres if you run the small one.
I would never consider running without washers, or two wipers fr that matter,a dirty screen is really distracting

If there was enough room behind the passengers seat and i could access it easily then it would be a possibility as i don't think i could get to it that well i think its out for now.
Run a bit of pipe along the roof, put a 1way valve in the end, the other end put into the bottom of the pump, other to the windscreen washers. :D

Possible locations atm include:

in the front left corner to the left side of the passengers seat
in between the two seats

Funk, why can I still not rep you Olly!
The car is primarily a track car, so you can clean the screen between sessions and Rain-X + Wiper will keep it clean during sessions. If you've gone to the effort of removing 50+ discs of metal, then 2kgs+ of washer bottle and fluid should definately not be re-installed!

Right enough of the bollox and on with the build....
After the prime up i wanted to sorted something before i painted it so i cracked on with the job in hand which, was fitting the rear turret/suspension top mounting locating type things as so
This is what i had to fit
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats202.jpg
I drilled through the first skin and in to the second so the weld would hole the top mount on and the two skins together
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats203.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats205.jpg
Welded them on and cleaned it up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats207.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats208.jpg
:thumb: :thumb:
Then i got on with the fun filled task of rubbing down the inside of the car - after the prime up had came out so well it was a bit disheartening rubbing it all back....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats209.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats210.jpg
This is the colour!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats211.jpg
And this is after many hours of ball ache - hasn't turned out great but its not terrible
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats212.jpg

With the inside of the car now ready to start being put back together i thought i would crack on with getting the cage ready to fit
i built it all up and rubbed it down ready to be panted
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats215.jpg
then hit it with some matt black
some mid paint shots
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats219.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats220.jpg
And the finished result
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats216.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats221.jpg
Much better now and it will look really good with the green imo.
To fit the cage i obviously needed the car back on its wheels so to speak but before i flip it back over i needed to sort out the strengthening plates (2mm btw) for the lower panel as its easier to get to them with the car on its side.
So i cleaned the area up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats217.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats218.jpg
Then welded the plates in place and drilled the holes out
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats222.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats223.jpg
And gave it a quick acid etch
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats224.jpg
I could now flip the car back over and get some better pics of the paint inside the car (i will make a better effort with the outside )
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats225.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats226.jpg
Its not that bad really - i fitted the black pugs back into the floor of the shell also
