Wow some cracking workmenship going into this now :thumb:
Looks soild welding on the struts. How many hours did it take to get all aligned up and tacted into place? Between the welder nearly on melt down :D

I then moved back to the N/S to continue welding the turret in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1111.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1114.jpg
As you can see in the pic below there is still a fare bit of material that needs to be removed once i have welded the turret in from the inner arch side (i still have this to do)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1115.jpg
Again whilst waiting for the welder i cut these up to possibly use on the turret tops to mount the cage (even more strength to the turret tops!)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1116.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1117.jpg
And they should look a little something like this if they will fit with the cage
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1118.jpg
Once the welder was ready to go again i finished off the turret plates on the O/S

Why thanks...to get them aligned up and tacked in to place it must of taken 10 hours! And it will probably be nearly 20 hours all in but they have come out well IMO so i'm happy :thumb:

Not quite either of you lol
Cracking mate, one question, do you have a job? lol
Just read this the whole way through (housemates had high school musical on, f*** that lol) Some quality fabrication work etc, and the ideas it's built to are great, low weight and no holds barred on the performance! That race head is pure engineering porn too lol
Are you going to put markers on them at messured distances very similar to a ruler ?
Count Vaux Alot
24-02-09, 10:47 PM
Cracking mate, one question, do you have a job? lol
I do indeed 08:00-16:00 5 days a week plus over time lol

I know what you mean about the head it really is porno lol I'm glad you took the time to have a read (to be fair death by anal fisting is better that high school musical lol)
The car is meant to be a track car so it has different specifications to daily drivers, basically if it makes you quicker i want one lol

gonna be a shame to cover up them welds with seam sealer! I've told you before tho - you need to slow down, you're putting too many of us to shame!!
are the strips for taggin in the cage to the shell?

I may not cover the welds inside the car yet (more weight lol) i might just paint them with everything else. I can't help myself as far as progress is concerned, i would still be out there if it wasn't for the neighbours!
as for your guess its the most logical so far but WRONG lol
(to be fair death by anal fisting is better that high school musical lol)
too true, I'd rep you for it but I have to spread it around lol

Hi everyone here is todays up date for you
I cleaned up the N/S turret and stitched up the seams
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1125.jpg
Removed the centre of the rear spring plate (extra weight lol)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1129.jpg
Then ground back all the overlap on the turret so it was nice and neat
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1130.jpg
And did a little more stitching
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1132.jpg
While waiting for the whole are to cool on the N/S i moved on to the O/S - cleaned it up, stitched it up, and painted it, this was very satisfiying to see as it was all coming together with the etch priming!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1133.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1134.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1135.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1137.jpg
Instead of watching the pain dry i went inside the car and did the opposite...i got the morz out and stripped off the paint from the seams around the inner wheel arches ready to be stitched.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1139.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1138.jpg
Once the paint was off i got on with stitching the seams inside the car
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1140.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1141.jpg
Then it was time to clean up and paint the inside of the N/S turret as so
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1142.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1143.jpg
may i say you have done a cracking job on them turrets :thumb:
Making me want to try to do mine but it would look sh1te lol
Count Vaux Alot
25-02-09, 10:28 PM
Nearly completed all the work inner arch wise! So its back to the inside of the car to clean up the turrets and dust them over with acid etch (its just to keep the atmosphere off them for the minute as i will have to weld the cage in shortly)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1145.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1146.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1147.jpg
Paint...
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1148.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1149.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1152.jpg
Nice and level looking out of the car (the turrets not my inability to take a level picture, in my defence the car is on its side lol)
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1153.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1154.jpg

Thanks that is good to hear as i wasn't going to bother but i then thought of the advantages (more room in the arch and longer shock travel) and just went for it - i think they have turned out well :D
i agree with you there they have turned out spot on :thumb:
So when you doing mine lol

So when you doing mine lol
Even if my best mate in the whole world asked me to fit some of these i would only do it for a huge sum of monies or sexual favours or a combo of the too as they are a PITA to do even on your own car lol

No sure yet as the cage has a brace very close to the turrets and a rear brace might be unnecessary and/or look out of place but we will see....
Love the turret work dude, wish my fab work was better.
Weldings great too. Doing a great job, gonna be a awesome build and car.

The turrets were a big job so have taken a while, once i have finished the under side of the car (hopefully before the wkend) i can put the car back on its feet and get on with fitting the cage, seat rails and a few other bits.
Looking good dude. Will be awesome to see it finished.
Just read from start to finish count...

Will the tops of the rear turrets be thickened, just seems a little thin in my opinion.
What condition is the saloon in these days?

  They have been thickened?? They are now 4mm which is thicker than standard plus i will be mounting the 'slash cut tube' to the top of the turret that will then be mounted to the cage....
The saloon is fine :D :D ;)

I'll tell you....round edges lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1161.jpg
And one gear shift hole cover
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1164.jpg
Cleaned the area up and got rid of the sharp edges from the spot welds
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1162.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1163.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1167.jpg
And sealed the under side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1169.jpg
Then i covered up the rest of the holes in the under side of the car
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1168.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1170.jpg

I started thinking about the cage as the car was nearly ready to go horizontal again so i profiled up my rear diagonal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1176.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1178.jpg
And slipped her in - oh er
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1179.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1181.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1182.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1183.jpg
Snug as a bug
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1184.jpg
So today after work and repairing a cement mixer drum (don't ask!) i welded the diagonal in place.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1185.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1186.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1187.jpg
The i had a good clean up so i could tip the car
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1188.jpg
Back on the ground
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1189.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1190.jpg

Count Vaux Alot
28-02-09, 09:40 PM
With a clean up going on (and the fact the car was now taking up more space) i shifted the engine from behind the car to the engine stand so i could start tidying it up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1194.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1195.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1196.jpg
Once the primer had dried on the cage i had a play with it in the car ready to make up some spreader plates
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1197.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1200.jpg
This pretty much funked my turret top plans - rethink needed as they don't meet the turret were i expected they would....
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1198.jpg
Then Marmite thought she saw a mouse
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1201.jpg
and here
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1202.jpg
Or was it there lol notice the attempt to take a pic of the car in the back ground
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1204.jpg
And the front - it fits well
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1205.jpg
Another question...which ones shall i use as they have multiplied???
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1207.jpg lol
And some more messing around just because - the sill repair looks ok from this angle so i'm happy!

That's looking awsome now mate, really good job on the turrets, are you waiting till the beam is back on the shell for the possition of the shock, so you can drill the hole?
Scott
Count Vaux Alot
01-03-09, 09:52 AM
Hi Scott i'm waiting on a couple of things - firstly the fact i don't have any rear coil overs yet!!!!!! And i wanted to know how the cage was going to sit before going a head. They will be drilled soon.
scott.parker
01-03-09, 10:10 AM
lol always help if you have the shocks!
As for the cage, is it an SD one? And in the pics it look as if the legs fall short of the rear arch/turrets? not sure though as you have them coverd up, if they do you could make a small box type mount to bridge the gap (think Lee had to do something like this)
Scott
PS: im off to do some work on mine! "SHOCK"

01-03-09, 11:06 AM
Looking good as always chap - you never fail to give an entertaning update as opposed to just messing with the ride height! lol
I see you've also trimmed out the rear panel ready for a Dar style diffuser?
Cage/turrets malarky is a bit of an **** but I'm confident you'll find a win win solution.
Are the strips just off cuts you're keeping with the aim of just using the best fit for shiny sill/kick plates?
corsakid
01-03-09, 02:17 PM
or are the strips for tagging the cage to the shell?
Looks awesome James, Are the clear rears staying? Whens its due to be out and ready then?

I'm soooooooo gagging to tell what the strips are for! :D Great idea by me!
Put it this way, I feel that this will seperate this Nova from the others... not to big it up or anything lol
Tidy work there matey! I'm going to guess the strips are for the rear splitter or some form of ground effects type thing...

I'm soooooooo gagging to tell what the strips are for! :D Great idea by me!
Put it this way, I feel that this will seperate this Nova from the others... not to big it up or anything lol
Go-kart style side-rubbing strips so that it can make it round corners, computer game stylee lol

Well i can say there may be a rear diffuser and a whole 'flat' floor going in at some point but not at this moment...all your guesses are wrong...i thought it was quite obvious...maybe not but to put you all out of your misery up date coming up after dinner....i hope you arn't disappointed lol As for Oli's idea it should help with going round corners but not bumper car stylee....
I want to have it finished by May - perhaps the PNG day a combe but we will see how it goes.

Right i know i have been teasing you all for a while now but, i have got to the point now were i can reveal what the strips of 2mm steel are for...i'm not sure how may people have tried this before but i haven't seen it done? So i thought i would give it a go and its turned out well!
So here goes it all started like this (and yes Olly and i did discuss the idea but i'm not letting him take all the credit :p)
Two front turrets
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1193.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1192.jpg
A straight edge and a measuring stick - note i have temporarily fitted some front wings
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1212.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1213.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1215.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1214.jpg
And some strips of metal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1207.jpg
....Any one got it yet???
I think i can feel a custom bonnet coming on
So after some careful measurements and a bit of head scratching i marked out a datum line to work from - 80mm down from the edge of the hole in the top of the strut.
As so
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1216.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1217.jpg
Marked out some more reference points and got the grinder out
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1219.jpg
Chomp!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1220.jpg

Then to solve the mystery it was time to use one of the strips of steel i went for a comfortable 45mm
I started by profiling it roughly to shape
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1222.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1223.jpg
Then began taking it in after i had cleaned up the seams
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1224.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1225.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1226.jpg
tried the 'lid' on for size and made a few small alterations
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1227.jpg
And tacked it on
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1229.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1231.jpg
And started to weld it all in until the welded decided it was hot as funk again
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1232.jpg
So while i was waiting for the welder to cool i decided to make up some supports for the new extension.
I gave the turret a clean up and removed all the excess weld (weight) once i had finished the welding that is.
Here they are....

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1237.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/turrets1235.jpg

Erm i don't know yet until i have dont the other side, but you could make them so it would fit (just)....
My options if it doesn't fit jack the back of the bonnet as may people do (i will be using bonnet pins so that would be easy) or as i'm going FG bonnet i could customise it so it has two sexual buldges either side :thumb:

No probably not but why not if you can?
I'm going on my experiences with the saloon and the way the ride/handling is when its low (not silly low 70-90mm) and imo its w@nk so i want the option of running full travel (as even a 70mm drop compresses the shocks) and being able to drop it down too, so i thought funk it i'll give it a go.
And yer you are being very negative lol

Sounds good but TBH i dont see where the idea that low = good for a track car? To a point imho but if you want to run that low the you need to do as olly says and change the lower pivot placement, raise rack etc. Would be easier to cut the front off and space frame it all imho, then you would end up with ideal suspension geometry for what you are seaming to want to achieve?
I realize you have done the turret mod for suspension travel (where as i got custom shocks). That was the highest i could physically run my car, it also had the sump around 2" off the floor.
I would guess you are looking towards a dry sump, shallower bell housing, raising the diff up (seen the sequential box mentioned).

 not sure Oli - It was mainly done to give good shock travel not to go major low so the TCA angle, inner arch clearance and Inner TCA mounting point shouldn't need and alterations....so ithink you can keep ypur piss to yourself lol
That's totally the reason my Fiesta rally machine had modded turrets, can set the ride height low if desired and still have lots of lovely suspension travel.

Tinker from tonight people not a great deal done as there was a lot of 'looking' going on (by myself i may add) lol mainly due to the issue surrounding my front cage leg to turret mounting point issues, i think the solution came out ok though.
Right - i got on with finishing off the O/S front turret extension welding and gave it a clean up
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts001.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts002.jpg
Then a lick O paint
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts003.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts004.jpg
While this was drying i started the 'looking' i didn't have the camera for most of it as the missus was using it so i only have the end result but i will expain.
Basically the cage to front turret legs come throught the bulk head at a strange angle i.e. they bend inwards towards the centre of the car unlike most that follow the edge of the wing on the other side of the turret.
This puzzeled me as the cage was built as a full bolt in item and there was no were obvious you could bolt to even with the bulk head in place due to the angle so i can only assume they had some brackets simialar to what i have devised....
Here i what i did (3mm plate btw)

Very nice, weldings damn good as allways.
What leave the cage removeable? Surely welding it in and tagging to to the pillars will give it that bit more stiffness..
Where does that bar come from? Dont they normaly come in lkike a triangel from the leg?
Count Vaux Alot
03-03-09, 10:39 PM
Benn there a 16 bolt in type tag points all over the cage so instead of cut all these off i thought i might as well make use of them besides it doesn't hurt being removable.
That bar comes in off the A pillar cage leg but at an angle (and yes that is the only way they fit and its not fitted wrong i have tried every conceivable position) lol
Looking good James.
ALL cages in motorsport at one point had to be bolted in, its nothing unusual to see a fully multipoint cage that bolts in, they usually run extra fixing points in the B pillars and roof area to help stiffen the shell up but still allow removal of the cage.
Count Vaux Alot
03-03-09, 10:50 PM
You are 100% correct JB on the tag in points - i did take loads of pics of them when i first got the cage.
Thats one on the left
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/cage014-1.jpg
And here on the roof bar and B pillar
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/cage007.jpg
Thats basically the same as the one in my Escort, does it have the twin diagonal in the back ?
As you know I just had mine welded in though and front triangulation added but as it was a Grp4 cage they did originally have to be bolt in, just like yours did
Count Vaux Alot
03-03-09, 11:27 PM
No its doesn't have any diagonals or at least it didn't until i added one - apparently this was fitted in a rally nova used in competition (it had original scrutineers stickers all over it) and did have FIA homologation papers it was made by Gartrac and i'm happy with it plus its a 'dash less' cage so fits nice and neat in my car.
Well if you've done your research on Gartrac then you'll be well aware of their knowledge.
Looks a proper cage and something slightly different to the usual 6 point stuff even if it has involved a bit more fitting time.
Going back to the overall build I see your selling your sccr for a sequential, knowing what these things cost and the small benefits you'll gain from having one (except crying when you break it) what sort of coilovers will you be running as there is a big difference from a set of low end Spax/Konis/Avo to the top spec Bilstein/Proflex for example
I genuinelly feel if your thinking of making something that stands out and really handles then it needs to be complimented with a proper set of coilovers so unless you can afford both I'd be keeping the sccr and spending the rest on the suspension as that would make it faster point to point than a sequential box would, IMO ofcourse.
Count Vaux Alot
04-03-09, 05:05 PM
I have researched Gartrac a little and i am aware of their knowledge - their escort stuff is lovely.
I completely agree with you suspension wise.
Count Vaux Alot
04-03-09, 09:50 PM
Hello all and good evening etc...
After a lovely chip shop dinner i continued with the N/S on from last night (basically just drilled the hole for the nut and bolt and primed it - the bolt in place is for demonstrational purposes only....) as below
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts032.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts033.jpg
Then i started on the other side (camera in hand this time) i began with two 3mm pieces of plates that i shaped up like this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts023.jpg
then began welding them in around the cage leg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts024.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts025.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts026.jpg
And the other side
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts027.jpg
And tacked in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts028.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts029.jpg
then it blasted home
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts031.jpg
On from this I made up the supports for the top and bottom of the mounting point and drilled the mounting hole as so

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/frontturretsandcagemounts035.jpg

Guessing you will be welding the seams around the turret too?

The seams around the turrets? They have all already been stitched way back when i did the alternator mod etc
For the tag in points i will probably tap out some small 25mm x 25mm squares of 5mm plate to weld to the shell that i can then bolt the cage to. I will detail it when i get there lol

Are you not going to trim back the lip for the top mount adjustability?
I might do but i was hoping to find some top mounts without the stupid raised centre so there would be no need to - saying that though i have adjustable bottom arms/tie bars etc so i can adjust camber/castor that way ;)
Ah ok, thought you would of just dont looklike it around the back of the n/s turret and ah cool, much like what i thought you'd do.
Good up the good work.
Count Vaux Alot
04-03-09, 10:46 PM
It shouldn't look like it around any of the turret as ive seam sealed all the seams.
Protec sell the eccentric mounts your looking for, I had them on my nova and so did Ad, I've never quite understood why the others people are using are made that way knowing that they require the strut tops modifying

James - I love the fact that you're actually thinking about what you want from the car, and not just buying bits off the shelf and bolting bits on (like I did).
Everything you've done so far has been completely custom to sort your needs, and hopefully others have also recognised this, from the cage fitting, to the shell prep in general, the front turrets, rear turrets, rack position, everything has been well thought out.
Well done mate, keep at it - and the quality of photos in this thread has also improved lots since your saloon thread.

Evening everyone! Not had the much time on the car since Wednesday night due to many a thing including parts collection, socialising, having more light fitted in the garage and having to complete a load of ****ty MOT related jobs on my daily (which wasn't what i really wanted to do) and work on sat morning
Anyway i finally got on with the Nova at about 3pm today and started to address the cage fitment inside the cars cabin concentrating on the rear turret mounting points.
Here is the offending daily pi$$ing thing lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts001.jpg
And here are the spreader plates for the 4 feet of the cage
There are x2 of these for the front feet
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts008.jpg
And x2 of these for the rears - i started off with some measurements 140mmx120mm that i turned into a cut up piece of metal
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts006.jpg
I then profiled it to the shape of the floor
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts007.jpg
Moving swiftly on i started 'looking' at the cage to rear turret mounting point issue as below
basically the cage meets the turret in a really awkward place with only a few mm of clearance
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts003.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts004.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts002.jpg
In the end i started like this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts009.jpg
then this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts010.jpg
that lead to this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts011.jpg
so it went from this
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts012.jpg
to this

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts017.jpg
I then made up some thing for the out side of the cage mount
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts020.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts024.jpg
And beefed the design it up a little before i welded it in
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts025.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemounts026.jpg

Picked up were i left off last night finishing off the N/S rear cage to turret mount
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats001.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats010.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats014.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats011.jpg
I then started to think about what i still had to do while the cage was in (as i need to take it out to mount the cage feel spreader plates) and i thought a ha the seats.
I need the cage in place to work out were i can mount the seats due to the clearance regarding the seats 'ears'
Here's how i got on
I started by doing away with the original seat mounts (yes more fecking spot welds!) but at least i'm loosing metal not adding it
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats015.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats016.jpg
I will say these are the worst to remove out of everything that is spot welded down in a nova imo as the metal is thick and the spot welds are unobviously positioned meaning missage is rife resulting in certain holage doh! lol
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats018.jpg
And the rest removed taking about an hour
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats024.jpg
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg167/Count85/rearcagemountsandseats023.jpg

Thanks everyone the seats are Ollys -(Track day novas) old ones and i fell in love the first time ever sat in them they are the t!ts and i love them!
Does anyone know if you can get replacement covers for them?
Scott the cage will be comming out once i've mounted the seats then i will be bolting the cage into place once i've painted every thing etc.

Right thought i'd update this as i haven't for ages  :p
I cracked straight on with fitting the seat rails for the subframes - i started by cutting up these 50x65mm rectangles (3mm plate btw) for the ends of the seat rails

I then marked out the rough area and cleaned it up with a sanding disc. Once i was happy with the positioning i tacked them in and made some more measurements and adjustments
