What would be better, engine cradle like this:
...or engine stand like this?
Any recommendations? Bearing in mind it's going to be holding a ~620lb V8 so a 1000lb frame should be more than man enough, of which there seem to be plenty around

Depends what u want to do, the stand is better for flipping engine upside down etc

Stand.
Dont see any advantages with the cradle

Stand
Stand every time

If it's like the impala v8, then you'll need the mother of all stands.... I'd opt for a cradle until it's stripped right down then put it in a stand for underneath work

Here's a US site that advertises similar to what you've put RJ:
http://m.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-c...not%20provided
Uk equivalent seems okay for the money:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/1000lbs-Eng.../dp/B00P2KTEN2
Imo take the head off / on with engine in the bay; lower block & box down, detach box then you can wrestle with the block & roll it around without needing either!

Stand, we've has straight 6 dervs on the one at work and it's fine, just a beffy one. Cradle looks like it'd get in the way all the time.

Stand it is then![]()
