WTF happened there?!?! looks like the cam has spun and ground out the finger.
I'd get the cam lobed polished up and go again with some nice gloopy oil..... Worst case, it happens again, best case it runs fine

Castrol Edge fully synthetic FTW. My E30 316i with M40B16 engine is still on its original cam and fingers after nearly 250k miles.
Have heard a multitude of stories from my friendly BMW dealer of cams desintegrating within 25k miles with these engines when ran on cheap oil. Go figure.

Some clown on eBay. When I asked if I could send a courier to fetch an item if I won it, which was highly likely as it was listed really badly, he said only if I scanned my passport and sent it first!!!!!!!! FFS. I pointed out that me having a 100% feedback and 250 transactions was enough to see I was trustworthy. So he won't sell me it.
