Just pulled the box off and found this on my 106 gti, was convinced i had murdered the gearbox by the manner in which it let go and fact I couldn't get any gears with engine on or off but touch wood it seems to be ok, so happy days
The scoring on the pressure plate diaphragm springs from the realise bearing is crazy, only about quarter of a mm if that left on them and bearing is seized solid.

Lol i did consider that when i first saw the springs but its alot more mullered than it looks in the picture, where the spring goes in its bent from the impact of a 7.5k gear change and many many more before itbang the springs back in & shove it together... there's miles of life left in it & its plenty good enough for some French thing....
