The ICV is a thermotime switch that controls the air bypass when cold iirc (similar device on my 3.5 Vitesse V8)

Once the engine is hot I believe it remains stable (operates with a bi metallic strip and workes off temperature) I suspect it is operating correctly judging by the above compared to mine.

I think I would check the resistance of the coolant temp sensor hot/cold and a see if the Ohms change cold to hot.

If remaining "cold" it would lead to over fuelling.........and maybe higher revs as the engine warms.

I assume this is happening with the car being stood

Rich, that would be good as the ecu is the only bit I haven't swapped, it won't run at all on my spare

Benn, that's why I got the spare AFM....

Royston, yeah while it's stood, I can't drive it as it needs mot, and doubt it will pass emissions ticking over on the red line

Just found your bay pics, I believe your problem is due to the location of the thermotime switch on the inlet manifold rather that the cam box (where it is on my SR).

The thermotime switch on my Vitesse is mounted on the inlet manifold, for heat I believe as mentioned above.

My previous comments about the coolant temp sensor may be incorrect, due to the above, but worth checking to eliminate!

It plugs into the ECU and loom. There is a test relay etc. Looks a good bit of kit.
Saw one on ebay recently really cheap. I thought of you but then I thought you had fixed the issue so never contacted you about it.

Thanks for that mate, will put it back in the original place and try that

I fitted 165 60 14's on them. But they're way too narrow for these wheels. You should try 175/55 14 or even better 185/50 14...
Don't think they will rub the wings as with 5mm spacers you're running ET44

Might be worth running the engine and restricting the flow (squish the pipe? or blanking it) through the thermotime switch and see if it controls the tick over once warm, would prove the theory before moving it

    Edd,
This may help, look at extra air valve EAV, I forgot the thermotime switch drives the EAV.

This link is fo the Rover Vitesse system, but is similar to the Irmscher system (but has nine fuel injectors) So will be useful in explaining operation.

    Thanks for that Roy

I had no idea that the ICV operated in that way, always thought it was just operated via the ecu!

Needs moving back on to the cam box then

I suspect so, I would squish the pipe and prove the theory first though...........
