I would not have a clue were to start on this not something I bothered with much so got a few questions
a list of recommended products to use :
cleanyourcar.co.uk - dodo juice born to be mild shampoo
stoner tar remover
auto finess citrus degreaser (bugs, engine bay, inner arches, dirt on interior plastic, general dirt in silly places) use with a 'detailing brush to agitate' lightly rinse off.
cleanyourcar yellow claybar to remove bonded contaminants off glass/paint,cut into 4 pieces(will last you a year '2pieces every 6months' leave to soak in warm water for 5minutes before use,as hard claybar can inflict 'marring' which is basically inflicting damage to your paint! use dodo juice clay lube, plenty of it,use fingertip pressure! This stage is vital prior to polish for best shine!
polish depends....do you want to mask defects(swirls) or would you like to machine polish? or general hand polish?
sealent to finish off(for light coloured paint 'best clarity' auto finesse tough coat is my recommendation
wax for dark coloured paint 'collinite 476 is durable' apply with applicator, apply very thin,do two panels,go back to panel 1,buff off(in straight lines) panel 2 buff off, and continue on like that, try to avoid direct sunlight and leaving on for a long period of time! leave 3 hours between coats for the wax to cure
and products that are used by bodyshop a as I have things to paint so would rather use things that react less etc if that makes sense
