Not tackling it yourself Mark? Whats the turnaround on the whole job? Will it see Billing 2013?
I don't have the time Rich, decided to bite the bullet and let a pro do it, not sure an area as structurely important as a floor is wise to be tackled by a novice?
Turn around I'm not sure on, main thing is the floor to sort as he is doing it as a favour after finding out the story of the last place, then save for paint, floor should be a month or 2, but then reading back I did say in 2008-2009 ish that it was off for paint in 2 days I think so no rush!!
As you know life has changed an awful lot since this started so its taken a major back seat, if it's done for 2013 I'll be delighted, if not then maybe fingers crossed will of progressed a bit, certainly more than in the last 3-5 years
Spent this last week pottering on looking into getting some stuff done for the car, had some inspiration at the classic car show at the NEC after talking to some guys on the RS owners club stand.
I've bought myself a linisher (bench polisher) to polish all the nuts and bolts before I have them plated again so they get a much better finish.
I also have been looking into getting the aluminium bits cleaned and have found a local company who can help. He has done 50/50 on the irmscher Airbox for me, needless to say ill be getting every bit I can think done after seeing this!
Also.. he has put me in touch with a guy who does soda blasting, so I have decided to spend the extra bit money and have the floor properly cleaned back and etch primed. The guy turns out to be a friend of a friend and has offered to do the work for a cracking price! He usually works on yank stuff and is currently building himself some kind of 50s American car with S class merc engine etc running on air suspension etc!
Soda blasting is a very fine form of shot blasting, so mild you can even leave the glass and chrome on the car if you wish so it's ideal for what I need, full on shot blasting can result in panel distortion, and acid dipping is very expensive and only 2 places in the country are miles away so this should be just as good if not better!
His website...

The soda blasting guy has then put me in touch with his friend!!!! Who is a body shop and has an interest in rarer cars and served his time in a Bentley and Porsche body shop, I'll be going to see him in the next few weeks to make some arrangements, they are next to each other so the hope is they can work together And maybe remove all the box section before blasting. And start from scratch with it!

That airbox is looking good mark, is that the vapour blasting guy, definatly going to have my gear box casing and some other bits done, we had some cast exhaust manifolds done and they came up like new.
Does clean it up real nice.
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one PepsiFar from suicidalStill I get them tendenciesBringing back them memories
That I really miss when I reminisce
I nearly fell off my chair - nice to see something happening! The cleaned up aluminium looks great you only have to look at my projects to see some examples of that

never noticed this thread. sense of de ja vu here. i dropped my opel gt to be soda blasted yesterday. i seen a 23 screen camper he did previously and id recommend it
Good to see soda blasting is finally making the main stream. Much better then any other type of blasting/acid baths etc etc.
And you are correct about leaving glass in etc. The last C2 R2 I built was soda blasted with all the window glass still intact, came back fine. Although the inside of the shell looked like there had been an explosion in a coke factory mind![]()
