    Default 1.3sr - gsi conversion

right i got my old sr back because i missed it so much, and the lad who had it off me blew the head and had it re-built and its ran like a 1.2 ever since (and yes ive checked it is still the sr block and head and the weber carb i had on it when i sold it), the plan was to put a nova gsi engine that i bought on the weekend in the sr and run it on my weber 32/34 till i get some twin 40's but as any nova story goes, it didnt work out to well

heres how the car looked first thing sunday morning:

    the engine:

    the team:

ginge - the coachbuilder/fabricator and soon to be nova owner:

    scott (N0V480I) :

    and me zee sr owner/destroyer:

opbviously we were all a***ing around, a short while later this is what the sr looked like:

which is when we started to notice rust, and seriously; there was rust...:
note where the battery bay USED to be after i removed the makeshift fibreglass tray:

the front wing supports, or atleast whats left of them:

luckily we had ginge (the fabricator from earlier...) who did this :D :

then we found more rust, strut tops, and inner wings near the strut tops:

ginge is sorting them this weekend

so we disconnected all the sr engine, unbolted the gearbox (as we had no engine lift it would be easier to split the lump and box to remove them:

i stipped all the injection etc off the gsi engine ready to put the carb and dizzy off the sr on:

so then ginge decides to have a look at the back of the car, wasnt good :

    my reaction:

    inside looking out:

    the spare wheel well:

so ginge did a tiny bit more fabricating (will post pisc this weekend) and we started pulling out the sr engine, the rope got caught on the dizzy so i thought id take it off, slap it on the gsi engine and it'll be safe for now, wrong, it didnt fit, i was distraught and i had to get to college the next day, so now the choices are, do i connect the sr engine back up, and run it still f****d for another week whilst i source a dizzy, or drop the 1600 in anyway and rob my little brothers ped, well there was no way i was riding a hair dryer for a week, so the 1300 went back in, with a struggle, took us and hour to notice that ginge had jacked the engine and gearbox up together after we had split them, stopping the engine simply splipping back into the box, many words were said to ginge but the love was not lost :D fired her up, heard a hissing noise, noticed water spraying out the head gasket silly mechanic who re-built the head before i got the car back didnt torque the head down, soon solved it, put it all back together and at 10pm she looked like this again:

so this weekend all the fun starts all over again, more welding for ginge, more abuse for scott haha a whole lot more cups of tea and coffee, nagging mrs's's and loads of empty fag packets, dont ya just love novas:D
