i would say that the 9's would stick out but 8's on the rear are usualy fine but would poke out on the front i think
The 9J ones are for the rear, and the 8J ones are for the front, cant find any images of any banded this wide
Doesn't banding change the offset quite a lot....
Unless they are double banded equally the offset is affected.
I'll try....
If you make the section in front of the mounting face wider, then the measurement between the centre line of the wheel and the mounting face changes causing the offset to change.
If they are banded in front of the mounting face and behind the mounting face of the wheel the distance between the mounting face of the wheel and the centre line of the wheel remains the same meaning the offset doesn't change.
Ahh now i understand! i THINK they're single banded on the faces so the offset shouldn't be effected? EG they wont touch the inner arches/shocks?
If they are double banded offset isn't changed.
Single banded on the front will bring the offset down by however wide the band is. (25.4mm to an inch is a handy conversion to know when working out offsets.)
Changing a 5" et49 wheel to a 9" wide wheel using a 4" band on the lip of the wheel changes the offset to et-1.8
(Wheels will sit 4" further out on the outside edge but no change will be made to where they sit on the inside edge)
Changing a 5" et49 wheel to a 9" wide wheel using a 2" band on the lip and a 2" band on the inside of the wheel keeps the wheels at et49
(Wheels will sit 2" further out on the outside edge and 2" further in on the inside edge)
Or if you want to work it out specifically on a 5.5J et49 SR wheel
5.5J - 8J adding 2.5" band to the outer lips would make them et17.3
5.5J - 9J adding 3.5" band to the outer lips would make them et4.6
I think what Dave means is the clearance from inside edge to the chassis/shock will remain the same with the ones he's found.....
Technically the offset will be mental but in reality it won't matter, she will handle really weirdly though.
In theory, they won't be any closer than now.
Dave, I did a lot of research into going banded, and the main reason I didn't/won't was I spoke to people who had them, an the same thing was repeated, '' yeah they look cool, but the crap'' as apparently they never balance up right, and always wobble no matter what, and they tramline like hell.....
John had a set on his green XE and said exactly the same..
