lol as soon as Martin Weavers car came up for sale/breaking and then Nick said he was breaking the project my first thought and reply was, he was buying Martins car.
Indeed!
Lol...
It was no great secret really.... I had a deal with Martin on parts I wanted for D20TBO however later we spoke and ended up doing a deal for the car complete.
I will update at some point with my reasons for this. In a way I was very disappointed to call time on my project but all things considered thought it best to do so. I did very well from the sale of the car and parts so was in a position to buy martins outright and have substantial change so not all bad. I'm extremely busy day and night currently but bear with me and I will tell all soon. Cheers,
Nick.
Good to hear Nick.
When Martins car came up I was at pains to see it end up in the hands of someone that wouldnt look after it or even do it justice if the shell was built with different parts. I badly wanted it myself.
Atleast we all know it's gone to a good home (for the time being) LOL.
Believing the know the reasons, this is a way.
You've got a fantastic car to play with and drive. Get lots of driving done in it.
Enjoy it. Show it.
Nice move a great car that no dout you will make better
Well Nick, I knew it was too good to be true you running away from Novas lol
It's going to be interesting to see how you put your stamp on an already very good build, looking forward to seeing your skill though :thumb:
cracking stuff nick :) until martin posted some pictures of his nova a few weeks back I had never seen the car before. really is a cracking car very similar styling to my project nova.
if your short on time imo you've made a great decision + you have money in your bank and have a car you can use.
+its nice to see that the cars not been broken for parts.
I look forward to seeing your updates.
What a lovely new arrival. :-)
Awesome Nick, im glad you bought it, makes 100% perfect sense to me, i would of done exactly the same.. :)
Cheers Craig, I think Martin knows It will be well looked after whilst it's in my hands. I pretty sure their was a few tempted by it and all I can say is I'm glad I got in first! I've always thought I would never be satisfied when buying a car as their always seem to be something however he's been so particular over the years with how things have been done and parts bought Its left me feeling very satisfied with what I've bought. It drives bloody lovely too! Epas is a cracking addition to a nova as I'm sure your aware.
yep I've been racking up a few miles already!
Cheers fella, I have some ideas just need some time! We'll see!
Cheers!
Yes I'm happy with the decisions I've made just a shame I don't have more room and could have kept D20TBO too!
Cheers Jeff, very happy on all fronts!
Nick.
Photo shoot needed soon then!
Nice one Nick, Have to agree about the power steering after having a go. Looking forward to seeing you put your stamp on it!
Im unsure which car it is you've bought but it sounds like you have another peach, I look forward to seeing some pics!
So I guess an update is a little overdue? Apologies for this I just dont seem to get the time I used to! Were to begin...... A little while ago I found building D20TBO was starting to get rather expensive and I knew their would still be a good few ££££ to spend. At the same time I was also really missing having a big block nova to hoon round in over the better weather months. I wouldnt want more than one project and only have garage space for one so owning another wasnt something I wanted so I started considering the possibility of selling it to buy something else that would be fun from the off like I have done In the past.....
However finding a nova turbo thats been built to a standard I would like wouldnt be easy. But I did have a plan in mind and got talking to keith during the weekend of Andy B's wedding about possibly buying his so he could fund his dream motor being a 911 GT3. But even then he wasnt sure he would part with It so I just carried on accumulating parts until........
Enter Martin Weaver with his nova turbo........ Ive known of the car for many years (Circa 1999 was the first time I saw it) And knew It was subject to an extremely high end build with cost being no issue. My initial plan If he broke it up was to cherry pick the quality parts needed for D20TBO but even then their was still parts and ££££ to spend in order to get it up to the standard I would have wanted. Which then got me thinking about buying the whole thing and selling my nova/parts to fund it. In short as many will have seen I put the car and many parts up for sale and was lucky enough to get a quick sale on not only the nova but some other expensive kit too which gave me more than enough funds to think about buying Martins car outright.
After negotiating with the buyer of D20TBO their was a few goodies I needed to fit which ended up being included in the sale. An opel grill badge and the stubby mirrors Id been working on over winter were added and heres how it sat awaiting collection.....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...psliec8lwx.jpg
And then at a later date It was collected via a transport firm who I must say was exceptional in the care of loading the car....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...psbsvc4nmm.jpg
So unfortunately we came to the end of my dealings with D20TBO however I know the new owner has some nice plans for It but I hear Its carcooned for a while until he gets chance. I will take this opportunity to thank him for a trouble free sale though and best of luck with It!
This then gave me the chance to go view the nova I wanted to look at. I was tempted to bail after again recieving top money for another nova and maybe look at a 911 myself but that would only be decided by what I saw when I next ventured up to stoke. Arrangements were made and we spent the weekend with Andy/Emily before going off to view the nova. In short I couldnt really fault it! Over the 15 years of owning and building It Martins approach to the project was exceptional. The work carried out on the shell at central blast cleaning alone cost him 3.5k and It didnt even come back with any paint on!!!! All parts used were top end and all work carried out has been to a great standard. How It drove really showed this and later when Andy drove the car he complimented on just how well and tight It felt to drive. As I was unsure of what I may find In stoke I hadnt insured the car so a stop at the nova Inn was required until insurance was sorted and I had chance to get back to collect It.
Tucked up with Andys turbo nova and his next project mini van at the back! .........

A few weeks back I returned to stoke to collect It. Really enjoyed the drive home whilst trying to get used to the power steering, Helix paddle clutch and the six speed box ratios as Ive never used these before in my previous nova turbo/big block novas etc. I was also thinking about what I could do with It??? Hmmmmmm.....

I had a proper read through most of this thread a couple Of weeks ago and think it's my favourite build thread.Really looking forwards to seeing you put your stamp on the breeze blue one. Will you be showing it this year mate?
One word, Stunning!
First up was an mot as their wasnt much left on the car as Martin had sorned over winter and only taxed it so I could test drive. I wouldnt usually buy a car with this little test left but after a good look round I didnt think it would need much. I then booked it in with work for a test.....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps60ebd4ee.jpg
Bit of a pain to actually get it onto a ramp at the front with how low it is but I just jacked it under the tie bar bracket then slid the lift arm under with some custom padding to ensure It wouldnt mark the mint painted underside! Rear is a lot easier just going under the end of the beam either side. For anyone having similar issues the 3m fastcut mop head pads worked a treat on the lift arms as seen here below. Although Its a crap pic the JP exhaust system is a true work of art! ........
http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps28da2d51.jpg
Thankfully No issues were found during the mot.... Steering rack inner tie rod ends have a little play but these were only advised and will be replaced shortly. Since then Ive enjoyed putting some miles on it but have also done a little more work too....
More to follow.......
I was going to keep the manta 400 mirrors but vision is rather pants so Ive changed to the stock mirrors that came with the car. My paintless dent guy then turned up to have a quick run round the car. As Martin used the car throughout the summer for work it had picked up a couple of small parking dents and their was also some shallow areas in both doors. Although these were brand new they were similar to what I bought for A6VXL and werent perfect to begin with so I had him sort these also to improve upon how straight the car is. .......

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps26832d09.jpg
With the dents removed and a few other areas levelled up SMN was now sitting much straighter and a little prettier.....

Wheel arches/struts were all cleaned and waxed.....

I also cleaned the rear arches but was losing light and pics are crap so will get some more at a later date.
More to follow........
^^^^ looks like castle bmw where my mate works?
Next up was a detailing session...... As I said previously Martin used the car to commute during the summer so as well as picking up the odd dent their was some fine scratches too. Although Ade's made a real nice job of the paint hes flatted it right back for a deep gloss look. Now this may look great but it leaves less material their to work with in the future when marks are found. A paint depth guage is no help as these give material figures to the metal and not individual coat thickness so I just had to work slowly and carefully to remove any marks I found. Using 2k wet & dry and trizact 3/6k to finish I managed to slowly flat the marks out....

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9c40c9e4.jpg
http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps33d94ed6.jpg
After machining all marks are gone for good.......

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...ps51f2c0d3.jpg
http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/...psacb7b697.jpg
Once all marks were removed sucessfully I gave the whole panels a clay and pass with the machine to remove any surface contamination on the paint. Another pass at a later date and a going over with the anti hologram pad/polish being finished with a good wax will see it complete and mint. Still looks well after the first pass though.....

Thats it for today folks hope youve enjoyed the read!
Nick.
nick that is stunning
See i have a problem that i look at everything and find my self thinking ways of making it better. "Oh why didn't they just do..." or "if they had just done it that way" or " move that to do that nicer" (even more on my own car)
I've looked thru all Martins photos from the build and studied the TV feature and ive not seen a single thing or part or bit on the car where ive thought it. Everything has been done so well and with such thought its fantastic. Huge credit to Martin and the perfect car for you.
I know you've already been enjoying, which im really glad about.
Now you just need to bring it to the shows.
i need to see this, i will attend a show with dick and have look round
Absolutely stunning Nick. Nothing else to say!
Great stuff Nick, envy doesnt begin to describe it.
Big up the mk2's.
Awesome car dude, brilliant decision, and couldn't of gone to a better home, lets just hope that tbo gets as much love and reappears on here. :)
It's looking great Nick, good work!
Looking great, the only thing I would try (and I'm not even sure if it would improve it or not!) is to put the blue stripe back onto the bumpers. But a very minor gripe on what is a stunning car, and one which is solely responsible for what I have now!
All the best with it.
Looks like martins attention to detail is at a high standard
Just like your nick.
Enjoy it nick
looking forward to seeing what you plan to do to improve something thats already perfect as it stands.
Cheers and yes I should be at a show or two.
Thanks mate!
Yeah he's made a lovely job which leaves me less to do which is nice!
Cheers Dave, if your coming you must bring the rs so I can have a look!
Cheers Kev!
Its real nice to be back into a mk2 seems ages since I sold HUA!
NO brainier for me in a way.... Just how mine would have been only mk1. Just cost half as much!
Cheers for all the help and lodgings mate!
Thanks Adrian! We'll see what I come up with.....
Indeed he has! Makes life much easier for me!
Im very happy as It stands so unsure if I will change much at all to be honest. We'll see!
Nick.
I need some RL7's in my life.
top work on the bodywork fixes.
Wow Nick you've bought a absolute beauty looking forward to your tweaks on this ;)
Have the alloys got a blue tinge to them?
cheers.... Quite difficult to come by in 16" nowadays!
cheers mate.... Wheels are a very strange colour which I'm really not a fan of! However I have been working on a little something to alter this so that will definately change at some point.
Nick.
Must admit I'm not keen on the wheel colour either but didn't want to mention it in case you did lol
Call me David btw ;)
Haven't been on for a while, fantastic car/purchase! :)
