yes but a fuel tank that looks like a collander is never ever going to fix properly for that sort of money... but a new one will give 25 odd years service...
there is only that one tiny hole,
i thought the saville jokes were over??
tj, there is never just one tiny hole.. you will get that fixed & then another one appears, and another, and another... i've been there & done that.. i used the t shirt to try & wipe the petrol out of my eye.....
:( dead nova parts make the baby jesus
i know i shouldnt bover, but im going to get it blasted cut out the area with the hole and have a crack at welding it, flap disc it down then have it powdercoated.
If your sand blasting it it won't bother you if you fill it with sand to do the welding repairs then.
For the cost of a new one it would be better to get one IMO
Fill the tank up with water if you must weld it. However for the price of a new tank you'd be silly to even bother.
its not the size of your tool, its the amount of damage you can do to your self while waving it round like a loon
ok ok ok Ive found a new tank, but I'm still going to practice welding on this ****ty one, then sell it to a unexpecting toe rag on ebay as being mint mwhahahaha mwhahahaha
love cleaning stuff up and bringing it back to its former glory, very satisfying

They look good, what did you use?
wire brushed the hell out of it then some rust restorer/de'scaler, high build anti rust primer, then a few coats of black came up better then i was expecting tbh
Just standard rattle can pants then? Not VHT?
nah this was just standard paint, im looking at the brushable smooth type paint to go on top
would this being underneath affect it?
Not sure mate, in the past I always used smooth hammerite on callipers and that was always fine. Don't think that is rated as high temp.
says on the back of the black paint can 70oF/21oC dont think thats going to be good enough on its own
Doesn't sound it!
Just don't use the brakes!
engine braking ftw
You need to fit an engine first!!!
I always used hammerite smooth on calipers, never had it come off
I think I have a set of standard rubber engine mounts if you need them? I am putting solids on mine.
I now that feeling, got 4 solid days next week to get my brakes, engine and fuel system in mine. Got to finish the engine off tomorrow.
ive already got some on hold mate and a new gte fuel tank, but cheers matey, really, really want to have another crack at welding it myself, so im getting a angle grinder tomorow as ive borrowed money from my daddy :) (just like old times lol) so the seems can be prepped and i can have another bash at it, going to practice on the inner arches so my crap welding skills are hidden lol
Practice on some old scrap first before you weld in the bay.
And a welder is only as good as the welder and if its set up nicely
ive practiced on a repair panel the only way i can get half decent welds if to do a blob wait for it to turn to a mild orange colour and do another blob half way on top of the last, takes ages but it works :/
tj, welding is meant to be quicker than rivetting....
what settings are you on??
bored of waitng around for other people to weld my bay, its only a vauxhall nova so its a ideal peice of **** to learn on imo

bought these from screw fix
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0930.jpg
flap discs are the mutts nuts, never used one before and fook me do they kick out some sparks lol
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0931.jpg
and just to prove the welds did do something, even if they do look really **** lol

fair play for having a go its the only way to realy learn tbh
got the engine on the stand after work, thats as far as i got as i need to go buy a suit for my uncles funeral
going to give it a clean and some paint, black block, silver gearbox and just leave the rocker cover and timing belt case as they are (standard) just with a good clean up
wasn't going to mess with the engine (later Xe) but decided as Ive got the earlier flat flywheel i may as well chuck that on with a new clutch, as thats nearly on the rivets, the pot flywheel is massive compared to the flat one, will have to weigh them and see just how much the weight difference is, also going to treat it to a good service (plugs, oil, filters, belts, water pump, thermostat etc etc..) going to get a 8v gasket for it aswell as the one currently on it is clearly weeping (loads lol)
not going to go any further with the engine then that for now, want to get it handling spot on before chasing more power
p.s forgot i might send the injectors off to be ultrasonic cleaned aswell
I love flapdiscs.
i would have gone to toolstation, but i was having some tyres fitted to the fiesta and screwfix was only across the road.
Fair enough. I will never buy **** like that from Screwfix though. Unsure on flapdisk prices, but have you seen how much they ask for a pissing wire cup brush for the 4" grinder? :|
the flap discs were 2.50 quid each i think, didnt think that was to bad, but yer there not great on prices compared to toolstation
To get to toolstation I have to drive past screw fix lol
I just keep both catalogues in my van , park in between both shops and visit the cheapest lol
