Hey small update still waiting on Magnum motor sport getting my kit to me thats about 3 weeks late now
So i got the engine bay all prepped and painted and also the floor done to since I got fed up waiting on the kit
It now has suspension on it and is rolling on some old wheels
Going to make a start to the rebuild of the engine tomorrow. I have some new shells, bearings, thrust washers, all new gaskets, valve stem seals,+ high pressure oil pump bla bla bla so that will keep me busy till the kit is here.
I will get FJC to put some pics up as i didnt have a camera :thumb:

engine bay loooks sweet.
great project.
omg!!! its actually on wheels and looks so wide lol
Yes does look wide on the front anyway as it is pug steel wheels they have massive offset. The rears dont stick out much as they are ford fwd offset. Thats what i was planning on building the car with till i bought some 345mm discs and brembos for the front so will need to go bigger now or get some smaller discs

Looks absolutley made mate, fair play to you. I know that the front looks very wide atm but as you say the wheels are wrong, this is going to brilliant once done, it should be really able to put the power down properley unlike the high powered front drive novas. Cant wait to see it with the kit on, if it ever arrives hey, Why not buy one from another manafacturer if theyre messing you around?

beautiful this is mad mate goodluck.
Word of advice on Magnum Motorsport, never use them again!!! I waited 12 weeks for 2 seats they said would take 1 week to make and deliver. How they still exist as a company is beyond me if they treat all their customers like this! Asking for my money back seemed to speed them up a little, give that a try maybe!
The car looks brilliant by the way, excellent piece of work.:)

Tried to call them 3 times this morning but dave the guy that seams to deal with things is never in  even when i first called i was told he will be back in ten mins. So i have left the message for him to call me asap. Even if he could just get the rear quarters out to me to start with i would be happy
Looking good cheif :D a set of 18" Rondell's would clear those size brakes would they not??
Will the bonnet close with strup tops of that size?
shame you didnt go to pro-tec for the kit. i got mine just over a week and is very well made kit

That widearch kit looks nice mate, have you started to try and fit it yet? Do you reckon it's going to take much messing around? Another company that makes them is SID, they sell them on ebay and are supposedley very well fitting, they arnt complete front wings or rear quarters but bond onto what you have already got obviously after cutting away whats not needed underneath.
Na i havent as yet. just held it up to see what it looks like. but even just doing that it looks like it will come together very easy as the wings are just bolt on

Well, definetly lots of space for a big cooler ! lol
The front box section will be cut off once i get my bumpers that come with the wide kit as i will be making a new one that i can fit the bumper to. the intercooler is fitted to the car just now where it mounts as standard so you can see how much room there will be. you wont see the cooler once the grill and bumper is on
Can't wait to see this once it's complete.
Are you keeping the Cosworth Wheels !? Personally i think a set of MO's would look spot on.
Also, what spec is the lump going to be !?

Spec of engine with pics of engine, size of cooler, etc etc.

Turbo little bigger than T4 with external wastegate. sweedish plenum. 850cc injectors. Genuine RS500 cooler and RS500 size boost pipes (alloy)and the normal 3"exhaust system and filter 3bar map sensor motorsport leads bla bla is that enough for you Ashtal??? I'm shocked at the hassle you've had from Magnum :( , I normally recommend people to go there, because the service I've had from them has been A1. I ordered arches and a tailgate and got them in less than a week, in fact even earlier than promised :)

rest of your kit arrive yet? that was real poor service 2 month's and only a 1/4 of the kit turns up! was the wait worth it how do the rear arch's line up? as you can never tell from pic's, look's to be pretty smart tho. A1 on all the effort and work gone in to this chap keep it up hoping to see a good result pretty soon then when you hoping to offer up the motor and see how it all looks. how is the engine refresh going you got that back together to?

Well where do i start. Im still waiting for the rest of the kit to arrive so no progress with the body. The fitment of the kit is ok i would say not 100% but ok. The engine will be going in the car as soon as i get it back together i just got my new pistons today so will get it all put back together tomorrow night fingers crossed anyway. I have every new gasket and bearing for it sitting waiting for it so i cant see that being a problem. With any luck the engine and box will be in this time next week:D Wont get anything done over the weekend tho as im of to peterborough for a car show all weekend that will be good but does mean no progress:wtf:

And not lay there birds rat on the dash! lol lol
Excellent work! It'll be very interesting to see how well it handles - this could be the fastest point A - point B in any conditions road going "Nova" that we have so far seen ? :)
I think I would have gone the flocked dash route myself - that kit Frosts sell looks to do a fair job at a fair price?

Its just an alloy panel there is no dash so getting it flocked could be hard like. And leaving it painted white would just blind you in the sun

Don't mean to be negative, but i find it a bit odd that after all that work the fitting of the cage is so poor. Also, I assume the manifold casting's very good quality for cutting and welding, and welding the outlet for the wastegate into? Has the person that welded it up got experience of welding castings? Very easy to get a weld that looks ok but is actually about as much use as a bit of chewing gum. Would hate to see you go to all the effort of getting it running for it all to split first time out.
Other than that, fantastic looking stuff :thumb:

No problem mate everyone has there views on things. Ok what is up with the cage Welds??? Fitments??? or the fact i only put in a basic setup???
The welding of the manifold was done by myself as a have a fue spares so just thought i would give it a bash. Reyland motorsport want over 300 quid plus your old trouser part of the manifold for one ready for external wastegate. And its just a standard one cut and welded as i have done. So if it didnt penatrate well and does crack i will just make a trouser piece from mild steel. But it has had a fue hammer testing sessions lol and its still on

explain...

The way the a-bar footplate's fitted it's not really doing much, if it takes a hit on the roof the plate will just bend. Should either sit hard against the sill and across the floor, or across the top of the sill and down the side, fully welded all the way round. The A-bar should sit hard in against the body as it runs up the A-pillar, following it tight up against the side of the screen. Should actually touch the body at the bottom and top of the raked back bit of the pillar. Then the screen bar should be a fairly tight fit, pushing the pillars out and sit hard up behind the roof crossmember at the top of the screen.:)
Just had another look, was maybe a bit harsh in my first post, sorry, no offence meant. I have seen a lot worse lol . ^ point still stands though. Would also put an infill in under the hoop footplate to strengthen that up a bit. With ref to the basic setup btw, I'd definately recommend sticking at least a rear diagonal (bottom of rear stay at the lh strut to top of other stay/hoop above drivers head) in there to to stiffen the shell up as i'd imagine the body'll flex like a barsteward with that power going through it!:thumb:

i would agree with rear brace and diagonal but at the same time, the car isn't finished.
even if these weren't in colin's plans its certainly not something that can't be added. and the front plates can also be boxed in if he likes. i don't think i've seen a cage sit that close to the a pillar and certainly wouldn't descibe an inch gap or so as "poor". but again, this can be bridged with a plate as per pro cages

I did apologise for being a bit harsh, and was offering advice as someone who builds motorsport shells for a living. I'm aware it's not finished but people tend not to add things in after there's paint on. And it looks a lot bigger than an inch gap in the photos, which is all i was going on. As i said already, no offence was meant:thumb:
The cage was a core kit3 from custom cages and the bends were not great so you can only pi55 with the c0ck you have eh?? And also they make the cage with the intentions of it sitting on the sill top thus making it sit alot closer to the a pillers, however i wanted it sitting on the floor but still welded to the sill to add strenth to the floor.
And as for the extra cage there is a bolt on brace going between the rear shocker tops
Cheers for the cage info tho it is the first one i have fitted :thumb:
That doesn't surprise me. The core kits are made from a different wall thickness tube to the normal kits so bend a bit differently, would've thought it should still fit pretty sweet though. Will look into that as I'm likely to be fitting at least 1 nova cage for myself in the very near future. Can see your thinking re the floor strength, I'd definately get those gaps filled in though and get some gussets knocked up for down the side of the screen. Also i'd still consider putting at least one diagonal in as it's the triangulation that gives it it's strength. If you need any help or info feel free to give me a shout

1st class build
Had a couple of hours today to spend on the car so started with lowering the spec. Removed the front mount oil cooler and fitter standerd one. then fitted standard inlet plenum with Bosch 403 injectors that will be staying in now since im only planing on 380 400 bhp. Also since im now planing on running 15" wheels i have had to fit standard size 2wd brakes to the 4x4 hubs. Im using the 2wd as they are i little bigger than 4x4 and they have 4pots where as the 4x4s just use a forked type caliper

Brilliant car mate, glad for you that you didnt sell it, i think you would have regretted it. Why are you doing the car to a lower spec than first planned? i know that 400bhp is still going to be absolutley insane in a car like this but as you started just wandering why you changed plans? also how come you decided on the 15" wheels? as it's cosworth running gear and basically the bottom half of a sierra would 17"s not be a better bet? as didnt the sapphire cosworth touring car run 18's ? Anyhow cant wait to see some updates and best of luck however you decide to carry on with the project.

Money is always the answer I should think.. I'm sure we've all started out with aspirations of grandure then thought to ourselves "f**k me this is expensive"..
Yes money is the answer as it is now its costing me aroun 10 -11k:confused: . And i have fitted smaller wheels as its easier to get slicks in 15" and alot cheaper And buying wheels is cheaper. I can also sell the big brakes i have to get money back on them. Little things like that will get it built faster. Also the siemens injectors i had bought for it i would have to upgrade my ECU to L8 so that would be 250 for a second hand ecu and then 300 for a chip for it and then a live map around 500 the list goes on and on. So if i keep my old injectors i will save 1000 quid just on that alone:thumb: And since my 1st kid will be here in a coulpe of weeks i need to save as much as i can now:eek:   lol
Done some more to it tonight got the rear bumper fitted and the engine loom fitted on and through the bulkhead. Also little things like the ignition module, map sensor and ignition coil all fitted now:)
Expensive game aint it tunning Cosworths lol
Mind you, the standard 8x16's from an Escos are worth a right fortune now there not made anymore!! Id eBay them on TBH!
