something to do, wont be getting a fiberglass bonnet until the car is up and running, being used and abused

I suppose I smashed up my old calibra for something to do

turbojolt

if it looks alright once wraped i might just leave it, dont really know right now

what i wanted to do this week end was get down the scrapyard to get a engine mount and the ruuber mounts for the radiator, but with all this rain i didnt like my chances crawling around a muddy yard wrestling with ****ty old vauxhalls :/

30-12-12, 05:44 PM
I was in the scrap yard chrismas eve at 8.00am as I dropped my mum at work and it's just along the road. It was freezing and I was close to the mud. Last time I saw a nova at any yards was 6 years ago

turbojolt

there was a nova in looms months and months ago now, was a shame to see it there as other then rusty wings and doors (easily replaceable) it was solid :(

no work today as Ive had a water leak and been waiting about for a plumber, never mind lol

decided to have a go at straighting out the bonnet, so i gave the larger bulges a good tapping with a hammer with a block of wood held on the other side which got some of them out, after that i started using my paint/rust stripper on the drill and that seemed to force the smaller bulges down (weather it has something to do with the heat it was producing i dont know )

at this point i had to really fight the urge to just go over it all with some clear coat and leave it with this rough and ready/rat look, but i decided against it gave the bare metal areas a going over with some 800 wet and dry then red scotch padded the whole thing

gave the bare metal bits a coating of etch primer the started blasting it with high build white primer

black roll cage with yellow padding
yellow trackday wheels
already got black and yellow harnesses
floor pan and esued steering
already got a black suead stewering wheel with a yellow ring going round the top

dont know if i can get any carbon wrap with a yellow weave as i might do some custom door cards in that, if i can get it that is lol

still looks rough but I'm not going to keep arsing about with it, going to spray it with some satin black paint so its not just left in primer, take the bonnet pins off clean them back to metal, then when i get paid I'm going to get some Kevlar style vinyl wrap for it

hopefully it looks half decent when finished, and if not I'm going to take it back to metal let it rust, then clear coat it so it looks like i ment for it to be rough as a welsh bird

Fan will be fine that size. The header tank has a screw going through next to the turret on the back. Glad it's coming back together now, I can possibly bring mine over to see what colour wires go where if you still need a hand fitting the engine.

turbojolt
15-01-13, 08:23 PM
thats alright i will go buy a cheapo set from tool station, i need a 60mm one to feed the wiring loom through the bulkhead

and some others to drill bad boi' holes in the front bumper

Mazz
15-01-13, 09:04 PM
Just drill a series of smaller holes in a 60mm ring, then file the edges - thats what I did for my loom

Also, I wouldn't go round the turret again, I'd go inside

Edd
16-01-13, 01:10 AM
if you cut a hole there your going to have to cut another big hole through to the cabin, not good imo

turbojolt
16-01-13, 11:50 AM
the hole drilled into the cabin will be sealed with the big rubber gromet attached to the xe's engine loom, same as the standard nova engine loom

John

Yep I agree, the loom always looks much neater where mazz has indicated.

Any inside pics? I wanna move mine to there.

will do, you still got the big looped throttle cable on yours?

In the pic a few pages back, doing the hole thru the fire wall there you'll fit the battery clamp, plus the battrey is right in the way. I did it there and wish i hadn't. Gonna move mine i think.
The tb cable fed around the way is way better and much tidier, did mine years ago and have been telling people too since.

turbojolt
17-01-13, 05:54 PM
would be nice to keep it as neat as possible, the std wiring running down the nearside is already phising me off just sitting there looking untidy

Benn
17-01-13, 05:57 PM

The wires or the alternator are blue with white stripe, the blue with green goes to oil pressure switch, red and blak go to starter. Thick red also goes to starter, and that should then go to alternator,

The water pipe from
The aide of the head should go to one of the heater matrix pipes.

The valve ypu found at the back is the idle controle valve, this is piped up to the inlet and should have a plug on the xe loome for it, similar to the knock sensor plug, also same position.

The last pic is the module for your coil. Its needed, original 1 was probably attatched underneath the old coil

turbojolt

Just chop a little more out and bash it down to meet the other piece, they can be welded together when the rest is done so it won't be noticeable

As said if the bolt goes in for the alternator bracket then it should hopefully be OK.

Nice job on the wiring loom, something I've always been a bit slack at actually fully inspecting looms!

Karl_
08-02-13, 12:42 PM
take off all that bloody tape.

re wrap it in proper non adhesive loom tape or it will be too stiff to move, or use that lovely cotton adhesive tape when its got its form. solder the wires together or you will lose your patience again s soon as you try running it.

no point doing something awful the first time to do it again man

I have seen this and it's true, the engine is in place, he's not just spent the winter learning how to use Photoshop. Minimal cable ties holding on structural components too. Please get a manifold before starting it though lol

action plan this weekend is getting the gearbox and engine remounted correctly, finishing off the brakes (i.e fitting the hoses and trying to work out how easy my easy bleed kit is :/ )

if that's all done (only taking baby steps or its going to be booted to ****) then I will finish running the fuel lines and grind out the rear arches so they stop scrubbing!!!

turbojolt
10-10-14, 01:20 PM
right I just cant get this gearbox to mount correctly. no amount of jiggling or bitching about is helping!

so I took the engine and box back out of the car..

Dunno if it's the pic but the clutch friction plate (with the female splines) doesn't look aligned, you massive bodger

turbojolt
10-10-14, 01:45 PM
how do I get it lined up if that's the case?

the engine was taken out of a working car and I never removed the clutch so I don't know how it can be lined up wrong :tard:

Andy
10-10-14, 02:11 PM
you will have moved it ball assing around tryna get it in lol.
I always use my finger to line them up and never had a problem, poke ya finger through when the pressure plate is nipped but not tight, then when ya finger goes straight through and into the recess in the crank what the input shaft end goes into, hold it there and tighten the 6 clutch bolts.make life easier for yourself by greasing the splines on the input shaft too.

Iain
10-10-14, 02:22 PM
Yep by eye/finger/socket/socket extension is easy enough esp now it's out and on the floor. It could have had a posh clutch on and they threw a cheapy standard one on for the sale

Andy
10-10-14, 02:29 PM
who in their right mind would put a posh clutch on a 1200 fartbox hahaha

Iain
10-10-14, 02:34 PM
Leigh.

Andy
10-10-14, 02:46 PM
he wouldn't cos he cant line it up lol lol lol

Andy
10-10-14, 04:11 PM

turbojolt
10-10-14, 05:47 PM
cheers Andy and Iain... nice to learn something new and not having to go buy some fancy clutch alignment tool

its the first time ive taken a engine out and put it back in over the top... and I hate to say it but benn might be right its very easy and everything seemed to fall into place

tempted to chuck a few quid at this one again would be nice to see it running before I decide if its being sold.....hmmm

Iain
10-10-14, 05:53 PM
No.

turbojolt
10-10-14, 05:58 PM
im going to price it up and see if its worth doing...selling a running car might make it less tempting for people like andy to buy for the shell lol

Andy

Leigh, you got the dizzy sorted yet and fitting nice and snug? Iain was telling me of your woo's with the plastic pin snapping where it locates in the cam. Burn the lot and all your problems will be sorted, that's the sound advice I usually give Iain ;)

turbojolt
10-10-14, 10:03 PM
haha the problem is half sorted I cut down the center pin and it now sits flush and spins fine..but the dam thing still isn't starting

petrol would solve the issue but its not insured for enough to cover all the money ive already sunk in to this black hole lol
