Next up is changing the rear axle, front suspension arms and wheels. After that it's engine and interior out and start cutting and welding. :thumb:

Was good to catch up again sir Vlietje. Car needs a bit of work but looks structurally sound. Front inner arches are in surprisingly good condition. Can't wait to get my hands dirty pulling your engine out. :p
Surely the missus appreciated the Cadbury bars I brought over from the UK? Or did you eat them all on the way home? lol

This is why i had to cut the pass side corner of mine off. Water just used to fill it and rotted it totally out.

Smart dressing is amazing stuff Jeffrey. Also on the "must buy" list now.
Iron X has done yet another miracle job on the Softstars. Even the balancing weights have come up all shiny! :thumb:

Great updates mate. Excellent job on cleaning the wiring loom. No need for exotic/expensive cleaning agents when you can use Dasty. Some household products really are good. :thumb:

Oh and before you ask, the roof had too much rust in the inside where the sunroof cassette goes. Hence why we are cutting it out, also having new A pillars and rear quarters means he can cut out all the shit sections and use the original spots to weld the whole panels back on. In the end it's less work and gives a more smooth finish compared to cutting out sections and welding and prepping them.
Basically all the outer panels will come off to be replaced by NOS original GM panels I've been sourcing over the last 5-6 years.

Dont try and cut/grind the roller weld in the roof gutters out. The bottom skim is so soft and weak. Believe me. Clean it up and sit it on top.

So, I've picked up the steel to fabricate a cart where the brackets for aligning the chassis will be welded onto. Looks well over-engineered if you ask me. But I got a great deal on the steel, was cheaper getting 150x150x8mm than 80x80x8mm in the end.

Next stop is that they will cut out the rear panel and rear quarters up to the roof... Also the rear floor section will come out as I have that new.

Just checking. As it was a nightmare on mine, in the end i clean it all up and put the skin on top. Which was way better as it was stronger.

Yes, front chassis legs incl front panel are gone. Inner front wings are completely gone at the bottom. Roof was dented and bad. Rear quarters, inner rear wheel arches and sills are gone and rear panel as it had a tow bar mounted that had rust on all 4 holes where the tow bar was mounted. Usual places as door bottoms, rear hatch and wings are also bad.

So, the LH chassis leg has been cut out, blasted and is now undergoing repair on the spring suport plate.
The RH chassis leg will be swapped for a new one.

Afraid there will be no more updates on this one. Jeff (Vlietje) has decided to break it after realising he couldn't find enough time to continue (and subsequently finish) the restauration. The legend lives on though as many bits are now with keen enthousiasts throughout the UK. :)
